E3 is quickly approaching, and as always we are interested to see what games and other electronics will be announced. However this time I've found something interesting... A large number of sites are making predictions as to what we will see from Sony, and there are a few supposed "leaks" out there. After visiting a few sites everyone seems to be predicting that a new WipEout game will be announced at E3, or at the very least are expecting a reboot of a PS1 era franchise (such as WipEout).
The PS4 has been lacking racing games for a while and after thinking about my findings over the last week, it makes sense to me. Gran Turismo and WipEout would be two ideal games to quench the PS4's thirst for racing games. Sony is not stupid, they make desisions that they think will benefit them financially, if they can restore intrest in WipEout by rebooting it at E3, it could work.
My only gripe with this logic is that Sony already had a perfectly good dev team working on WipEout (Studio Liverpool) which they closed down. If they wanted someone to make a new WipEout for PS4, why close the team most familiar with it and give it to someone new? It's also evident that Designer's Republic is not involved in any new games besides Formula Fusion, so would a new WipEout from a new dev team truly feel like WipEout? My only awnser to these questions is that Sony didn't expect the drought of racing games on PS4 or didn't plan for it (nobody is perfect), and are now going to try and correct this error.
What are you're thoughts? Feel free to speculate, E3 is always something to look forward to! :hyper

My guess is there is a .01% chance. I have almost given up all hope.

Most likely not Wipeout. Wipeout as a franchise went down with SL. The most that can appear is another AG racer.

Formula Fusion is already in development, and that's got my interest at the moment..

I understand. I wasn't expecting anything either, I'm still not honestly, I was just looking to see predictions for E3. But when i found several sites predicting WipEout to get a reboot, it just got me thinking: "Probably not but... maybe..." . I'm not getting my hopes up at all, but I'm going to be watching Sony closely this year (I ususally only watch Nintendo at E3 T////T ).

Wouldn't mind seeing an F-zero without the ridiculous bugs and online play. I have even less hope for this. .00871% to be precise.

I'm not expecting much from Sony this year at E3, I'm expecting more Indie showcases and Uncharted.

I'll keep it in mind, but all my hope is gone. WipEout's spirit lives in the new fan games, like SSGX, Formula Fusion, Supralieter, and Ballistic NG.

Looking back at what was said about Studio Liverpool's closure I'm finding no reason for WipEout to be dead forever. Though there are a few upsetting things to discuss.
Firstly, WipEout 2048 was still going to be getting some further updates, and although they never mentioned it, possibly paid DLC. However we DO know that they were planning the "AG museum." Judging by the title, it was likely a showcase of the history and development of WipEout games over the years, probably featuring concept art, 3d models of race craft from the games and never before seen lore and detailed explinations of WipEout's backstory. Though this is just speculation.
Next is the WipEout game for PS4. While disappointing, it actually gave me a little bit of hope, just a little. It was apparently in development for 12 to 18 months... that's alot of good assets to just throw away. If Sony (now very well funded by the marketing success of the PS4) decided to have a different developer pick up where Liverpool left off... it would probably be very easy for them to do.
Finally, judging from what was said about it and looking at the very few concept arts of WipEout PS4, it looks like it was to feature the 2025 cars from the WipEout 2048 opening sequence. Personally I imagine such a WipEout to be more of a pure racer with very little weapon based combat if any at all.
Again I'm not saying anything for sure. I'm just trying to become a more optimistic person. There is nothing saying this can't happen.

I highly doubt this. It doesn't make the least bit of sense. That would be like turning FIFA or PES into an NFL game. They're still football, but completely different.
Even though I don't discard the possibility of another AG racing game coming out of Sony, I don't believe it will have "Wipeout" on its name.

Actually, that was concept art for 2048. http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?9679-SL-WAS-working-on-a-new-wipeout-How-did-we-miss-this

Ah, I see. So there are no actual images of WipEout PS4 on the internet then. I knew Deceit was a bunch of fan renders, but I always thought these where WipEout PS4 concept art. My bad...
Still though, the 2025 cars could have made an interesting game, after all the PS4 WipEout was said to have been "quite different" compared to previous entries in the series.

Why would you think that sony wouldn't release another futuristic AG racer as wipEout? they own the name already and it has a following. Hmm. Are you suggesting that sony has given up on wipEout as a title but not given up on Ag racers as games?
On a side note, I do find it weird that sony sells wipEout HD Fury to fans as a successful title, but shows no interest in it past what they gave us already... the very fact that online tables were a constant grievance and buggy online play may have been a serious cause for concern in the Sony offices... just speculating - trying to justify Sony's decisions not to make a new W'O" lol... why am I even trying, meh.

WXX Rebirth is a remake of the first two (three?) wipeout games using the original content (you need to have the original game's disk).
