So I've got a question.

You know how the Puma team in WipEout PurE used what looked suspiciously like Qirex craft?

Does anyone know how that was written into the series lore?

Was it some sort of marketing deal, where Puma would pay for some of the R&D for those ships in exchange for being able to run as a separate team for a whole season?

Or maybe it went under due to mismanagement, and Qirex, fresh off a good showing in the first season of FX-300 racing league, was able to buy up their assets?
This would make sense, as that ship's handling is VERY different when it shows up in WipEout PulsE. Showing that Qirex was able to improve significantly on the existing design.

Interesting thoughts, no?

Short answer - it wasn't :P

It was a sponsorship deal with SL which used one of their unused craft models. Same with the Coca-Cola and Wire05 packs, which used another model with different skins. There were a couple of fan-made stories behind the appearance of the two unique craft, but there was nothing official to tie them in.

Ah, yeah. I figured it was something like that.

Good to know, though! :D

The "promotional" ships in the game, story-wise, are privateer racing ships. The FX300 was highly popular and attractive to many privateers, including those sponsored by big companies like Coca-Cola and Puma.
