Mario Kart 8 Online?

I'm getting a Wii U!!!!! Very excite about this.

Does anyone have Mario Kart 8? I'm hoping there is an online play mode available similar to WOHD. Can anyone confirm this and tell me how it works/how fun it is?

Apparently it's rather frustrating since you can go first to last in a matter of seconds :P (so yes, it has online ;) )

That has always been the case where one super weapon instantly clenches the victory on the last lap!

Maybe that is why my wife loves it so much and hates Wipeout so much :/
