Rules are
Only pure racing, alternating between weapons on & off on the same tracks
No, Eliminator or Zone Battle

We are going to need hosts for this event so we can run it continuously for 3 days

Well, I'll see what I can do. I could be in for Venom, Flash, and MAYBE, Rapier. I dunno. I don't have a lot of experience with Wipeout HD (the only way I can play it is going over to my friends house as I've explained before) but I've played a lot of Wipeout in general. Hope that helps me.

About the difficulty, here is how it goes: In a room with 8 pilots all around an equal skill level, the 2 best places to start a race are last and first. It gives you a slight edge only. The rest is luck on pickups. However the difference is normally that racing against that many elite pilots means missing one barrel roll could mean losing the race. So to win here you have to be lucky with weapon pads, lucky with starting position, and at the top of your game. There are some pilots that are just simply better, but with other elite racers all racing together, even the most elite will need a little luck. Losing a race by 5 seconds or less against the best of the best is a win by my standards, you just don't show up on the podium.

The big thing this time around is, that I have alerted the French pilots a LOT sooner than they were alerted for the last AVALON.

A failure on my part previously, but amended this time around.

You just have to look at the records to see how many French Pilots are WAY up on the leader boards.
Who of the fastest French will turn up .... ? [where is a shoulder shrug icon ]

Same could be said for the Spanish, Dutch , Portuguese , Polish , Russian .... add the whole of team NORDIC [who I have seen recently dipping their toes in the WOHD waters ]
Give it time, it will build up.

We purposely planned this one out so it could be the biggest AVALON of all.

It's rather cruel to tempt a WOHD JUNKIE straight out with a Zone/Arena PM or PSN message [I know who they are], so I decided not to.
I'll let word of mouth do it for me slowly this time around.

The mere aggravating thought of Not being a part of this AVALON event, will make the best turn up to challenge each other.

I have never been so excited about an Avalon as this one... this one is gonna be BIG, and trust me - peeps don't want to miss this, because they may just end up regretting it and kicking themselves hard.

I'm guessing (hoping, wishing) the elites who left the wipeout gaming experience due to 2.51 update will be leaving their gripes with it behind and getting in for this - this is for the love of anti-gravity - and not for the hate of it!!!

What happened may I ask cause I've never heard of this issue with 2.51?
I only started playing last year so I know nothing of this :P

it changed some of the physics slightly - some complained that it made them slower and is now harder to break the best times and even get into the top 10.

However, I have been breaking into the top tens (and eve 5's) since the 2.51 (namely in flash, my preferred speed class) - it just required a little adjusting and that's all. It's more than possible to beat those top times in my honest and humble opinion... just need to shrug off the dust, and get back into the g-suit, and let nostalgia do the rest.

As a Feisar pilot that was awesome Terra, I love it :D
Getting my speed laps in as well for this AVALON, my best circuits so far are Anulpha pass and Modesto Heights (I forgot my times though :P ) but still may not be that competitive to some of the veterans taking part. Gonna keep training ^_^

And snake :) thanks bud... its never about the ship, its all about the pilot in the ship. And I love my piranha ;)

FEISAR handles very well... but when you can throw a heavy ship like Piranha and Triakis around the track with accuracy, you WILL scare the competition somewhaat, and should you decide to get into an Icaras (or in your case, a FEISAR) afterwards, you'll see them leave because they know you'll be even better in those ships (they handle oh so well) :) its ak type of psychological war, where half the battle can be won just by starting your races in a ship others find hard to control but yu race in - then switch over to your fave and worry the pants off the competition in the process.

Avalon though, is not so much about the competition, as it is about the party atmosphere - no one really cares for wins in Avalon, its just a tribute to wipEout where the worlds best will share their knowledge with you in the PS3 chatrooms, and the banter which follows the awesomely funny and weird moments to be had in the avalon experience...

I feel like its holidays when avalon is on - because the atmosphere is just really cool :)

A few practice sessions have been going on .... well at +10 GMT.

I'll pop in and out of various rooms if I see Euro groups doing the same, obviously at different times [GMT].

I seem to be suffering a horrible online lag ATM.
Maybe more pilots online at the same time might help PSN allocation.
It's usually when few are racing that bad 'Lag' happens for those in OZ.

Remember KANAR that started AVALON?
The basic rule was 4 races per track, 2 weapons ON, 2 weapons OFF.
That always worked well.
Occasionally it would get very hard core, depending on who was in the room [All Zone & Arena people] and you could suddenly find yourself in "The Race of Truth", a 20 lap NO weapon Phantom race .... think about it [No pick up's, so no absorbs to replenish shields, No BR's until the last lap if you had the shield energy left ..................... Elimination mainly only happened due to bad racing lines ].
Those were the days!

On a rather rotten note.
I got news I have to go into Hospital on the 24th, well they have booked me in for a barrage of tests on that day.
I have no idea what the doctors intend to do with me afterwards, I suppose it depends on if they get the results straight away and decide to keep me in to treat me, if that happens, well I'm stuffed for this event.

If they need to wait for the test results, they will send me home and I will be able to attend [I think this is the most likely ], but ATM I have no idea either way.

It would be suck central if you couldn't make it after the effort you've invested here. last night I decided to go online for a bit, plenty of pro-pilots came into the lobby (i was racing as soup-herb) and it was nutts... then somehow I managed to get a 1.51.56 on anulpha pass forward (flash speed online) in a Piranha :D thought it was a global World Record, until I checked... texasalex holds the WR... but hey, to get this close, post 2.51 patch, and in a piranha... ??? who said 2.51 was slow? :D It made me faster.

I'm hoping I'll be good to race, I bought a new PS3 controller for the event [In Go Faster RED ;) , I need all the help I can get ]
Plus I bought the ChromaPure standardhttp://www.chromapure.com/products-chromapure.asp screen calibration software, and have calibrated my TV screen to within a inch of it's life, to getting it looking just like SL intended [Looks F'ing AMAZING TBH, $$ well spent, going to do the Projector next :) ]

Anyway, it's getting closer and we need to sort out some sort of "Who intends/will be on line to host races, and manage the chatroom[s]"

Historically, you Euro based guys start proceedings, since there are more active Euro based pilots than anywhere else, I suggest it stay that way.

Also, ANYBODY on your friends list that you have raced / met via HD etc [use players met in your PS3's options].

AVALON is usually Phantom speed, separate sections of the AVALON group can and do host the slower speed classes at their discretion.

As all previous AVALON event attendees know, it's a Get Together , NOT a Comp.

But one where the best and fastest attend.

The spirit of CURLY is the overriding reason for the meet.

I know this as I beat my old record for Ubermall forward, Phantom TT from 1:49.79 to 1:44.97 (166th place on the leader-board) :D
That's minus 4.82 seconds which is a lot of time saved. All those speed laps are paying off. But its whether I can repeat that success against the veterans now :)

I give you a tip. Don't ever care who is in the lobby, just focus on one thing and one thing only - getting round the track in the fastest possible time for that race... that's where the satisfaction lies. The wins will come, but as they do - they become less satisfying over time... and you'll learn to appreciate "true competition" more than a simple win.

seeing that "photo finish" badge when you come either first or second is a lot more satisfying than just winning. Even coming second in a "photo finish" situation is more satisfying than a normal win for me. :) weird how that works

I think just use the AVALON lounge as the default, AVALON 2014 as a backup if more than 16 online at once.

You can be in more than one chatroom at once, and receive messages from both at the same time, but it gets confusing, reason being, by the time you respond, people wonder what you are talking about as the subject has usually moved on since then.

It's a long time since I put long hours into TT [4.5 years probably ], so I'd be well off my old form.

Same for online, I just don't get the competition I used to be able to get at the same hours, so I've gotten worse [add a bit of old age into the mix ]

I'll try and pick my game up for the meet [did OK in a few Flash meets the other night] but my timing is well out for Rapier & Phantom speed, and basically that's what it is, timing your control inputs relative to speed class.

The tracks don't change, your best lines are pretty well set in stone.

It's like learning a song on a Guitar and being able to play it at different Tempos, the song remains the same, just your fingering speed differs.

I've been doing some practicing by redoing Arcade Perfect.
I forgot just how frustrating the Elite A.I. is.

Had a few online races last night and managed to attract every weapon in the game as soon as I got a sniff of the lead, some things never change.
Also ran into Dantreich, I don't know if he intends to participate with the upcoming AVALON, I hope he does.

Cipher, It`s not ylod, but, just bought a pre-owend console from GAME supposedly thoroughly tested but, this one is not!, that is for sure, console is not clean and the vents are covered with old dust and not bothered to clean it up. Already sent a complain to the company.

I have just sent out Avalon invites to all on my friends list + , so 126 people have just got one.

I just found out that your PS3 friends list can extend past 100, if you view a compare a 'Player Met' stat's against yours, they get added to your friends list.
Since the only game I've been playing online is HD, it was safe to sent those newly added the invite.

It would be great if everybody did something similar.

And i might need to take back what i just said about the streaming, my System just crippled with a kernel panic and initialization failure, which sucks big time, trying to fix it, but it'll take time to adjust all kernel extensions and boot config params to their correct values, might need to reinstall, but then i have to back up tons of data first, so yeah... we'll see

For a player of the WipEout games since the original Playstation classic, I'm about to sound like a total n00b. You have been warned... :D

So I got the invite from BlackWiggle to Avalon the other day (Thanks!), but I need to know how I'll find the Avalon lobby in WipEout HD. I'm assuming that's what you mean by chatroom? This will be my first Avalon event, so I'm slightly confused... I don't have anyone on my friend list, so I'm not sure if the invite itself would let me in.

If someone can drop me a message on PSN with info, that'd be great. My handle is "Hybrid_Divide", so that should be pretty obvious! :D

I probably won't do much racing at Phantom, as I'm just not good enough at it yet, especially considering the elite status of the pilots I'll be facing, but I just might give you a run for your money in Venom, Flash and Rapier!

Noooo you silly :p , the chatroom is a PSN chat room where the pilots that want to can talk to one another and just have a great time in between races and stuff ^^ (it should be listed right above "Message Box")
Avalon itself is the whole weekend where just a bunch of pilots will be playing, so the lobbies will be here and there, some might be full, thus new ones are created ;)

Although i don't know if you can invite anyone into the chatroom without having them on your friends list, but if it worked, you should see an AVALON 2014 chat room in the chat room section of the dashboard, just "open" it during the avalon weekend and join the party! :)

everything, but the credit card :D no uhm, I uh, well, let's put it this way - I need a graphics card with open GL support man, this laptop can't render the file ( i have a PC but it needs a card) - until then, I cannot do anything in after effects. I was hoping to get one before last week but I got crippled financially by unexpected emergencies :(

Which I found kind of strange that I only just noticed this, just as well really as one was full, but it is confusing as I managed to be in both at the same time, but could only respond in one.
Sorry, my apologies to people in the chatroom I couldn't respond in.
It makes me wonder how many people turned up and logged into one of the chatrooms and found only a few people in it, then thinking that nobody had turned up, which wasn't the case.
Having the Phantom room not always showing on the board wouldn't have helped either, come to think about it.

I think we might have to can both of the Avalon2014 chatrooms after this meet to save confusion, and start a new Avalon lounge chatroom for the next get together

Anyway, I have to work tomorrow Monday morning here = Sunday night in Europe, so enjoy your racing those who attend.

It's been a blast, as Avalon GG's always are.
The online board was the busiest it's been in ages, which is great.
