Rebirth aims to bring together the whole Wipeout community

This tournament also takes place on the day of the 24 hour gaming marathon organised by the Extra Life (http://www.extra-life.org) charity. Please consider taking part.



Congratulations to onlykpop and SuperRyuga, joint winners of the Rebirth tournament!


Entry to this tournament is open to absolutely anyone. It will consist of four six-race tournaments spanning all four speed classes, with players collecting a cumulative points total at the end. Depending on numbers, everyone will be organised into groups, with the highest ranked players in each group advancing to a final eight race tournament afterwards. The rules and organisation for the tournament are as follows:

RULES



Participants will be split into eight groups as equally as possible. The draw will be completely random, there will be no seeding
One player from each group will be assigned as the host. This player should add all PSNIDs of their group members to their friends list. Hosts must be PS3 users, as private games cannot be set up from the Vita
Hosts should set up a text chat lobby for the seven other players in their group. This will allow easier communication and will also identify who is ready and any connection issues
Players should be ready to join their group at 8pm BST or their local equivalent, and should be ready to begin their tournament no later than 8:30 BST. This time may be moved slightly, but only under agreement from all other group members.
When ready, the group host must invite all members of their group to a private game. They should set up the first six-race tournament at Venom speed class, ensuring that weapons are on, barrel rolls are on and pilot assist is allowed. All other settings must be at default.
During the tournament, player positions and points totals must be manually recorded at the end of each race. This is in case of a player disconnection, see below.
At the end of the tournament, the positions and points totals of all players must be recorded. The host will then set up the Flash tournament and allow a short break before starting. Players may change craft during this time. Play continues like this until all four tournaments are complete
The host (or other designated player) will then collect the final points totals and positions for all players and send them to me (Hellfire_WZ) via private message on the forum.
The top three players from each group will advance to the semi finals in three groups. Depending on time this will either be played immediately or on another date.
The top two players from each semi final group, plus the two highest scoring third place players, will advance to the final. Again, this may be rearranged for a different date if time is against us.


DISCONNECTIONS

Due to the nature and length of the tournament, it is possible some players may encounter disconnections. The following procedure applies if this happens:


If a player loses their connection before the race countdown has completed at the beginning of a race, all players must immediately disconnect. The host issues a new set of invites and waits for the disconnected player to rejoin. They should set up a new tournament containing the races that have yet to be played, and should wait for everyone to rejoin before continuing. Allow five minutes for the player to rejoin or at least contact the host, if the player has not done this within this time then start the tournament without them. They will have to wait until the next available opportunity to rejoin the races. Players may NOT change their craft here unless the tournament has ended.
If a player loses their connection once a race has started, the race must be completed and positions/scores recorded before all players disconnect. Unfortunately the player that lost their connection will gain no points for the race. The host should then reinvite everyone and resume the tournament from the next race. As above, players may NOT change their craft unless the tournament has ended.
I will not enforce a limit on disconnections as this may be unfair on some who have unreliable connections. However, should you find yourself suffering persistant disconnections, it would be sporting of you to withdraw.

Looks like we're closing in on 50 applicants, good stuff! Just to make clear though, the tournament consists of all 24 races, it is simply split into four separate ones to allow changing of speed class. If you enter, you will be racing all four classes.

It's about the policy on disconnects - HD isn't the most reliable game these days from what I've seen, and crashing or getting a connection error in the middle of a tourney isn't particularly uncommon. If someone drops in the middle of a section, what's the procedure?

Not yet. Someone will just have to bite the bullet when everyone comes online if nothing happens. Although saying that, invites can be sent to people not on your friends list, it would just be an issue creating a chat room. I've sent a message to DjManiac but no response yet

I may have thought of a way around the Vita issue, but it'll still require some luck. The problem is that Vita users cannot accept invites from the PS3, nor can they see friends-only games in the lobby. This will require a bit of a work around on the part of hosts who have Vita users in their group. Please use the following procedure to allow them in:


The host sets up an invite only game and invites all PS3 users into the game. Wait for everyone to join
The Vita user then enters the CrossPlay lobby
Once they are in, the host briefly sets the game to Public
If the Vita user can see this, they should join. This will complete the group and all is well
If they do not join after about 5 seconds, the game should immediately be set to friends only to prevent anyone else joining. Wait a bit and try again


This may take a few tries as it seems the Vita can only see a maximum of eight games in the lobby.

Alternatively, the Vita user may host. However, everyone must be ready to enter their game as soon as it appears, as Vita users can only create public games

So for group 7, you could try this.....
Phantom could host a Zone battle at the time of start(since not many jump into those)
And everyone else could do a search for just Zone battles and once everyone is in, then change the setting to what is needed.
But yea, it's the chat that would suck, all of you could just ask the person to your left for a friend request, but that would give you 2 friends.

When I tried to host myself, it wouldn't let me cancel the timer running down before everyone had joined the room. I'm really sorry guys. I didn't mean to screw it up for all of you. I guess I assumed Sony would have managed to make this whole Vita/PS3 Cross-Play work.

Since then we've slowly lost people (not restarted immediately) but have now collapsed entirely after Sol 2 Reverse (Flash again).
I have the scores for the first 2 races, but things went a bit random after that (by my maths Pusgaa was scored 7 points on Modesto Heights)

Group 1 all finished. There were only 6 of us because by 8.40 Olivariox and Evarir hadn't accepted my friend requests or replied to my messages, so we started without them.

Fantastic races, really really good fun. I was the only one to suffer a disconnection, which I'm pretty sure ruled me out of qualifying. Once that had happened though I enjoyed it much more, playing for the sheer pleasure with no pressure whatsoever.

And then disaster, I forgot to press record at the start of the phantom tourney. I realised a couple of races in when the screen on my cam was blank. I'll be honest, I didn't handle it that well (temper tantrum that Cartman would be proud of).

Anyway, thanks to the guys from group 1, seems we did okay in the grand scheme of things. I'm pretty sure it's Jan, ID and kpop through to the semis, Jan has the final scores anyway.

I also had a similar problem, but in my case, my PC auto-disconnected the PVR at the last race of the 1st round without realizing about it. When I saw the error message on-screen, I was like "oh, no no no no, please..." because I though I lost all the footage, but I actually lost the last race video.
Nevertheless, Colonel, yours is sheer bad luck; I'd be like you in that situation. :P

I managed to lose the first race of our Flash tournament because I didn't press record... which was a right arse because I won that race! ;)

Yeah Group 8 folks don't beat yourself up over it.

I'm sorry for just bailing out of the group after all the problems, but I had people with me and it wasn't really fair of me to force them to watching me sitting in a chat room for an hour, with the Wipeout Fury menu music grinding away endlessly in the backgroun.

I'm especially disappointing thought since on that third attempt I heroically won the Chengou Race with a grand total of 1% of my shield left! :)

No worries, it seems like a mix of bad connections and issues with the Vita. I'll put the three remaining participants into the semi from Group 8
