....nope not offering....but asking! ;)
I have all of 1 - 6 complete, 7 I just have the 8 race tourney left, and on 8 I struggling big time with the some of the single races, time trials, and of course the tourneys.
I've think I've come close to peaking for my skill level and before I go online looking for tips, I wanted to ask if anyone has been able to complete this trophy with the auto-pilot on? Maybe you need to turn it off to access some of the shortcuts or maybe it makes the AI slower a hair?
I know I need to turn it off, but I won some Elite Phantom races and figured I could tie a bow on the trophies before picking up the game all over again (from start to finish) with the auto-pilot off.
Again thanks in advance for you feedback.

If you're good at the game, you'd be able to beat the entire game with pilot assist on, sure... but there's no reason to. It limits your potential in favour of allowing the player to do little more than hold X to win.
I recommend hopping into speedlap and relearning all the tracks over again in venom or flash and build up your confidence from there. It may sound daunting but even 50 laps will make you a much better player at your probable skill level. Also, maybe check out some youtube vids from 2009, maybe 2010, and start to get an understanding of the advanced features of the game. I bet you haven't learned how to sideshift yet?

kinda figured that i'd be looked down upon with the autopilot on and yes i plan on doing exactly what you are talking about, which is re-learning the whole game over with it off. I just started playing about 3 weeks ago and think this is a great game. i have been side shifting for about a week or so now, it did open up a whole new world.
In regards to what I don't like about taking it off that I know I need to eventually learn, is the concept of side shifting into a wall on purpose to get air and barrel roll. This to me makes no sense conceptually, but i do understand that it basically is required to win online against some of the sick times i've seen posted.
Should i not even attempt the rest of the phatom elite campaign because it will do more harm than good? pilot on or off, winning an 8 race tourney on level 8 is hard as nuts no?

I don't think I'm "looking down" on you, fact of the matter is you're new at the game and essentially you're still getting to grips with the experience. It's good that you like the game though! (who couldn't, really? :P)
Trying to complete Meltdown with PA on? I think with your skill level it's a waste of time and you won't succeed unless you dedicate yourself to the task, and even then you'll just be fighting a lost cause because you'll only be "good at playing with pilot assist on", which means nothing unless you really get a kick out of it. Or you just want to be unique and say you did it, and that's fine. I don't have a problem with that. I just think you'd get better at the game faster by relearning how to play with PA disabled.
Also, you can't sideshift into walls to get enough air for a BR without significantly slowing yourself down in the process; however, you can take advantage of the shape of certain areas of the track that aren't exactly the track. Just as legitimate as shortcuts like the one you get a trophy for in the Fury campaign, IMO.
In any case, it's only really necessary if you want fast times, and only really effective in Venom and Flash. They're over the top if you just want to beat the campaign. To beat the players who have invested hundreds of hours into the game in an online match at Venom, yes they are mandatory. Luckily for you there aren't that many ;)
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Apart from turning PA off, you really should try adjusting the sensitivity of your air brakes, this can, well does, make a huge difference.
A low % = more sensitive in HD/FURY, try around 70% an see how that makes your times go.
If you take the % too low it also lowers the success rate of doing side shifts, so getting the right balance is the thing.

Me an shapealot completed campaign with PA on before we found this great forum. Alot of it was based on luck for the tough races though. Turn it off asap , once your used to it you'll make things alot easier for yourself.

Guys, this is all great information and thank you VERY much for all the insight. I am very eager to turn it off and rely more on skill than luck!

Glad to hear you'll take the Jedi path. :P
You'll be surprised of how many things you'll be able to do without relying on the pilot assist and how great you'll perform once you get the hang of it.
Best of luck. :)

Experiment with weapons on or off for certain tracks. Try using a non-Fury ship to avoid facing Elite AI with Fury Icaras on particularly tough tracks. For Chenghou Project, ignore barrel rolling more than twice per lap in favor of retaining energy and grabbing weapons/boosts. In fact, favoring weapon pads over speed pads often works against the AI.

Sorry to sound sappy, but thanks again for the replies, they are helping big time. I have Elite complete completely except for two cells, both on Meltdown.
The 8 race tourney - I've only just really tried this a few times late last night so I think if I can place first in Vineta K and Anulpha Pass, I will be able to eventually hold a lead throughout with a few 3rd and 4th's mixed in there. Not too worried about it really, just need to put the time in.
The time trial Vineta K - This is oddly enough my favorite track and I can place 1st in it on Elite more so than almost any other track, but the time trial is kicking my azz! I hit every speed pad, barrel roll off both small drops, and turbo barrel roll off the last section straight every time all without barely hitting any walls or losing to much speed. The time to beat is 1:44:00 I believe, but I have probably run about 1,000 + laps on it and can't get lower than 1:45:00 even. There must be a small short cut or extra barrel roll (or two!) that I am missing to be a whole second off still. Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated. Also too add I am using a Fury Icarus model on the time trial, is that the best ship for this course. I know there is no clear cut answer and personal driving style is predicated on this answer, but I am curious what everyone on here has to say.
Again thanks in advance for your help!

Damn, what is up with that message, never seen that before on You Tube.

Sometimes UMG can be a pain. Try these options:
• yeldar2097 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-trciZL7EQ) // 1' 31" 57 - Icaras Fury
• drmannevond (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgBgW37cKJY) // 1' 37" 10 - Icaras Fury
• Ragsus_Maxima (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRJ1Bs7pWxU) // 1' 39" 02 - AG-Systems HD
• Colonel_Gaddafi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBKJj1cfxgk) // Meltdown walkthrough - Harimau Fury
• Hellfire_WZ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9yEvlcz9_4) // Vineta K tutorial - Goteki 45 HD
I think with those, you should be more confident when you face that Time trial. And also, my apologies if I missed some more Time trials, but I just found these. If that's so, then please tell me.

Thanks for the links Ragsus! 8) 8) 8)
I think the AG Systems one will help the most because this is the exact same line/run I make that I can't break 20.4 per lap with. The only difference I saw was the boosting out of the tunnel on the middle of the hill, while I was waiting until I got to the last mini hill before the flat straight to the finish; making sure I hit the speed pad on the right. Could this be a one second per lap difference perhaps?

I've never boosted at that spot you're saying, so I'd not know what to tell you.
However, I'd dare to think that you nose up too much at that last slope, and that slows you down your ship because you spend too much time in the air trying to reach the speed pad after the starting line (I'm assuming you're doing that, but even if you don't, you're still in the air for too long).
I always boost at the exit of the tunnel and it always give me nice results as long as you nose up a little.
And also, try sideshifting while you take the sharp corners so you can cut some extra time.

You are dead nuts on regarding the airtime. I think you are right I am in the air too long as a result from where I boost from.
Also I think that this course doesn't have too many sharp corners for side shifting except when trying to hit the inside lane speed pads, however I do recogniize my lack of side-shifting on this course too

Here's a rule that should help you get started on sideshifting:
Is it a corner? Sideshift!
Hopefully this helps ;)

Elite Campaign Legend trophy obtained!!
Guys thanks again for all the help. Everyone's input was just as helpful as the video of the links. The biggest difference was in fact when to turbo on the last Vineta K stretch and keeping the nose up slightly instead of going high up into the air. This easily dropped a full second off (although it really doesn't seam like it when you are playing!).
Last night I re-started the campaign with PA off and am loving the "NEW" game to me. I still need to 'Bling it up' to Platinum the game as my last trophy, but doing all of this in 5 weeks was pretty fun.
Now we'll see how long it takes with PA off for the Elite Legend Trophy. :!

Here's a rule that should help you get started on sideshifting:
Is it a corner? Sideshift!
Addendum: Should a corner require both airbraking and sideshifting, brake first then sideshift. Do not brake after sideshifting.
Y'all can correct me if my assumptions are wrong about this.

Elite campain legend is an amaizing trophy, when i first played on elite i couldn't surpass the 7th place and that was when i got all gold medal in novice difficulty.
But then i could beat the campain on elite and got the trophy and this was hard!(But beat zico was harder)

I didn't need to switch off auto pilot to get all the trophies, I believe the game is set like that. But to get all the PS3 trophies (including the prized Zico) you need to step to the next level and switch off auto pilot and hug those curves.

when i first turned off the auto-pilot i was a terrible racer. But then i got on well with it.
The good thing is: now I don't know how to play with auto pilot on!!!!!!!
