Welcome to the Wipeout HD Fury Racebox League, a weekly challenge series encompassing the five competitive offline modes:

Speed Lap
Time Trial
Single Race
Zone
Detonator


Each Sunday a new challenge will be posted, specific to one of the above modes.

The deadline for each challenge will be midnight the following Friday (although there will sometimes be "early bird" bonuses for submitting your scores / times before then).

All times and scores MUST be sent to me via Private Message to be included in the week's results, although this thread is a good place to discuss progress, tips etc for any challenges.

Your PM should include photo evidence of your results, whether as an IMG link or an attachment.

Scores will be totalled and the leaderboard updated over the weekend, before a new challenge is issued on the Sunday.

Scores for each event will be allocated as follows:

1st place - 8 points
2nd place - 6 points
3rd place - 5 points
4th place - 4 points
5th place - 3 points
All other competitors - 1 point
Bonus achieved - 2 points

There already was some debates about releasing videos of those glitches, and at the end it always was decided not to show them !
Some very active and popular members gave up with HD because of those glitches (ubershortcuts and speed glitch).
Yeldar already refused to see those private videos, to keep some interest in playing HD, it was a wise decision. I suppose he prefers a fair competition based on skills and not on using all the possible game's breaches !
But it's only my feeling, do what you want.

wasn't it u who defended the use of BSB? telling everyone 'it's a technique, not a glitch...' (i used it too)
as long as it's no cheat, im fine with it. and im sure u know it's not easy to use 'the skip'. my intention isn't to break the game, but to reach the limit ... and go further if possible. simple as that

Bsb never was a bug in the game, it was coded to work as it did. Now the use, me and some did with that feature is another debate, there's some for and some against ! But it's not a glitch !!!
Yeldar and booney are the closests pilots to be able to almost reach the limits of the game ! I don't see in them that urge to go "further" !
Create a poll, then, if it's decided by the majority, pandora box will be fully open... at the risk no wipeout fans plays the game anymore !

I dont consider the mag strip boost a glitch anyway, its possible to br there so to use the boost to get further down the track without actually skipping it seems plausable to me, but thats just my opinion :P

There's a difference in staying on the track using a boost over a mag strip to BR and skipping half the track when you should have respawned ! ;)

exactly so the boot shouldnt be considered a glitch, whereas track skips are, though most i know of wouldnt be helpful in anyway, but im sure i dont know 9/10ths of them :L

that's exactly the reason why i asked, if it's allowed or not. the 'skip' gives easily 3 to 8sec advantage depending on speed class. i had a go on it few hours ago, very messy lap, still 4.5sec faster than the actual clean WR by texasalex (mizwiz or so used DRS/f-duct, same category as BSB). i decided for myself, i skip the first challenge (don't want to get any points), but'll still do a video to show the whole thing. i don't like the fact that it's 'hidden' knowledge.

Yes, 100 % legit ! Believe-me, skipping half of the track (not especially on moa reverse) kills a bit the interest to play TT/SL ;)

In hindsight it seems it was an error of judgement to allow the loop skip in this challenge. The last thing I want to do, as leungbok suggests I might, is to"kill" Wipeout HD.

So the loop skip will not be allowed in the challenge.

I'll edit the first post to make it clear. My apologies. I hope leungbok and Jan will both take part.

On the final little chicane series i ss 3 times, fractionally faster i think, just a point :L

I don't know, because of the first turn and the need to boost far from the start line, it's not sure it faster (funnier anyway :p) you're the best to investigate IMO, lol
But the br before the second magstrip is probably faster ;)
About the last chicane, i'm lost ! I tried to ss more or to take the turns tighter without breaking, i can't see what's faster, and that damn ghost don't helps, lol. You're probably right ;)

yeah well theres a maximum point to boost i think, quite a lot asier to get right than the 2x br too so lowers the chance to race a whole lap again for another pop :L damn i really need a camera to show it, erm when you ss the last mag pad, ss left as soon as you can, then ss the corner of the turn and ss right again down the line, it makes it much tighter and faster :) any suggestions of a cheap hd cam?

IMO some hd video recorders to plug directly on the ps3 are the best for quality, you should ask Hellfire what equipment he uses.

Mmm... As far as I know, any decent HD camcorder can cost €150 at least (≈ £124), so if you were going to record games frequently, I'd definitely go with a PVR device, which cost is a bit higher than a decent HD camcorder, but you'll be able to record the full screen at the best quality and without ambience noises.

At the moment, I'm recording my gameplays with a smartphone, a Samsung Wave S8500, and although the quality isn't great comparing from the PVR video footages, it's still decent, especially when you watch it at 720p in streaming.
I tell you this because if you have a smartphone with you, it's a viable choice if you don't have a decent camcorder with you.

Even I've watched the Colonel's video, I just can't do that barrel roll with the Icaras, so my best speed lap time is quite shameful (don't laugh :(): 32" 12.

I only managed to get some height after boosting before the mag-lock strip, but not a single barrel roll (after the trial, I've done few BRs with the AG-Systems, but that's irrelevant); much more practice is needed for me. :P

Thanks Jan, I always appreciate compliments on my tunes. At some point I'm going to to a "Wipeout" mix, not done a mix in years though! I've got a lot of vinyl but haven't touched it in years. I also haven't bought any digital tunes in some time, in fact I'm running out of decent tracks I haven't used already. A big shopping spree at DJDownload's in order :)

Yeah I know Strictly Rhythm, they've released some classics over the years. Some of their sublabels are ace too.

I had a message from Booney today asking whether the bonus for this week can be achieved over more than one session, or if both times had to be in a single session.

On reflection I think it's only fair to allow times from different sessions for the bonus, so if you get a 30.20 in one session a 30.22 in another that's fine, as long as you send me pics of the results screens.

Anyway I'd like to go for the bonus, seeing as it's my only chance of finishing the week with more than 1 point :P

EDIT - I've also made a minor adjustment to the points system, to resemble more closely the standard tournament points in WOHD. It's a bit more balanced now.

I really struggled to be honest, the blind corners are a nightmare. I know I should probably have been looking at 600,000 or more for a completed run, but I was happy just to see the finish line. Could have sworn I got more than 10 bombs though :?

Oh and I just had a look at the leaderboard again, it seems basic arithmetic was beyond my grasp when updating it the other day. It's sorted now anyway, Jan and LJ are in joint 2nd.

Yeah very nice vids from Booney and novide. It's a very frustrating course on Phantom, I'm stuck on 1.51.10 at the moment. Spending a lot of time Turbo-Gardening*, put it that way.

Well Jesus, you're the only person who took part in every challenge so I take my hat off to you, Shame it didn't last longer but the demand just isn't there for this type thing in HD anymore. I'm as guilty as anybody, 2048's taken up so much of my time lately. HD's still by far the better game though, I've enjoyed some really good sessions of late :)
