Lapping?

One of the main differences between the original and later versions is that once you were out in front, you were in the clear for the rest of the race.

However, I distinctly remember lapping a ship once. Only once. I was having the race of my life on Firestar, and entering the final straight, saw a ship. I just pipped it to the line.

Has this happened to anyone else? On any other tracks?

I would love to even know my times! Unfortunately, I've lost all that data (haven't played in years), and it's been so long I can't even remember. There might be an old memory card knocking about my mother's house with all that info on it, but since that's in Ireland, and I now live in Russia, I don't think I'll be participating in the tables very soon!

I've just discovered this site, and I'm delighted! Back when Wipeout was in its PS One pomp, I was as dedicated a pilot as any, but I never knew anyone else who could even get past Venom.
