All participants in this challenge please enter your times only here, in this thread.

Here's the rules for our challenge:

1) The rules which apply for our records tables will be applying for this challenge as well. This means:
- All Single Race times must be attained racing against the maximum number of opponents with weapons activated.
- No cheat codes should be active while attaining any record. (For this challenge you may use the codes to unlock all tracks and all ships if you don't already have access to them, but no other codes my be used!)
- Times must be set on an unmodified console which is the same region as the copy of the game. (e.g. PAL PS2 and PAL game disc.) This means that you are allowed to use your PS2 or PS3 to play the PS1 version of WipEout 3SE and take part in this challenge.
- Lap and Race records must be set with clean laps and races – times from races which you have been eliminated from are invalid. For this challenge it is allowed to enter a time from a race in which you have been respawned (the wuss wagon took you back onto the track).

2) Only ships with a speed class of 3 or lower (Feisar, Goteki, Pirhana, Auricom, Assegai) will be allowed for the challenge – so no Icaras, no Qirex and no AG-Systems!
It is allowed to switch ships in between the races. For example you can enter your time for Porto Kora with Pirhana and your time for Manor Top with Assegai.

3) Only times from the following tracks will be counted in the final results:
- Porto Kora
- P-Mar Project
- Manor Top
- Terminal
You may show us your times from other tracks (if you do some Stanza Inter for warm up for example :)) if you want, but they won't be counted in the final results!

4) The challenge will be open from 16th of november until the 15th of december. Within this time period everybody is welcome to enter his times for any of the tracks, even if he/she did not take part in the voting. Any times submitted after the 15th of december, 12pm gmt+1 (german timezone) will not be considered for the final results.
The times should be entered like this (use the following lines as a template if you want):

Lap 5: XX.XX.XX
race time: XX.XX.XX

For the final results we will count the best race time entered by the contestants and the best lap time from that particular best race time. It is not allowed to enter a best lap time from another race. Only the best lap time from your fastest race time will be counted.
In the end we are going to sum up all 4 best race times and best lap times from those races to get an overall time (meaning: race time 1 + lap time 1 + race time 2 + lap time 2 + race time 3 + lap time 3 + race time 4 + lap time 4 = overall time). The contestant with the lowest overall time wins the challenge.

5) It is allowed to use any form of Joypad, Joystick, Steering Wheel or whatsoever for this challenge as long as you do not use a turbo controller (a controller where the buttons can be set to automatically press themselves rapidly, or has a secondary set of buttons that submit rapid inputs when held). It is also not allowed to use any controller which allows you to programm any specific button pressing sequences into them (like left-right-left for barrel rolls).

6) After the winners have been determined, each one of the podium places 1, 2 and 3 may send me his address and I'll pay for and send them one packet of our famous Nuremberg Lebkuchen which weighs approx. 1.5kg. Of course I'll also pay for any postage and package costs.

7) Fair play! I will not ask for proof of any times like videos or screenshots. I'm going to rely fully on the integrity and honesty of our forum members for this challenge. If anyone can and wants to supply us with some videos to share his racing lines and shortcuts (which I would highly appreciate!) with the other participants you're very welcome to do so!

If anyone knows any more shortcuts for the 4 tracks we are going to race, please do tell us about them so that everyone can use them and all have the same knowledge basis for this challenge.

I played with Wip3out non-se, so maybe it cannot be considered as valid, I let Tomahawk decide :)

What ships did you guys use? Just being curious if you switched the ships for the different tracks.

For the final results I can only consider times set with 3SE, because, as Al has already stated, Wip3out and 3SE are really two different worlds when it comes to the ship's handling and game physics. Also the smallest time margin in Wip3out is 0.04 seconds while in 3SE it's 0.02 seconds. I thought you had already ordered a 3SE / Destruction Derby combo from amazon?

Yes I ordered w3ose on Amazon but I didn't receive it yet... and I'm in job travel the two following weeks.
Plus I don't have a savegame for it :'(

Well, I guess for the moment I just play for fun, I'll enter my times stating I'm using w3o edition, I'll enter times with SE when I will have it ;)

If you don't have a savegame for 3SE then you can use the codes (Phantom / Alltrack / Crafts) to unlock all ships and all tracks. That is allowed for this challenge.

Well, a couple of years ago, I actually played to wo3se on emulator, getting all gold medals, except last combo challenge because of Icaras on WO1 track.
And I took some screenshots...

I thought I should try with Assegai. Seriously, I get hit so much with the AI in the first lap that the low shield is a pain in the ass.

So I tried with Goteki. Indeed, the high shield helps a lot :)

Here's my first try with my NeGcon powered Auricom:

I usually start the race with a turbo start and immediately pull my ship a little bit to the right side of the track and hyperthrust so that I leave 2 or 3 AI ships behind me when I enter the first long right hand bend. After the bend, before the litte chicane I pull up my ship's nose and hyperthrust a little to fly right over the chicane in a straight line and land right before the next right hand bend which leads to the jump. I hyperthurst again at the moment when I leave the jump and pull my ship to the right and it's nose up so that I cut the right hand bend right after the jump and try to land my ship at the beginning of the downhill section leading into the tunnel with it's nose parallel to the track. I then go off at high speed through the tunnel and the two hard right hand bends after it. I then hit my left airbreaks before entering the left hand bend which leads to the track split before the finish line and the pit. If I go on to the finish line without going through the pit I hyperthrust again and pull my nose up and try to cut a little part of the chicane before the finish line. If I enter the pit I usually do not hyperthrust.

I might give a few more tries with this. I would like to knock 2-3 more off pmar, in that I found a better way of turboing the jump, and would like to give a shot at the WR on manor top with Assegai ( inferior in SR compared to IcAras). This is a hard challenge, the CPU ships cause lots of trouble when you lap them, and saving a shield most of the time is not always enough to get through.

Just tried manor top again, .10 off, damn nervousness last pit run through

Thanks, where is Arnaud anyway? I think a few more seconds will have to come off if he competes :). Dan, unfortunately, the Icaras completely dominates every wipeout track in all the versions, except for manor top TT, sometimes by as much as 8-10 seconds. Although it is incredibly hard to pilot in comparison.

Yeah, you are not the only one who is scared. Got a new porta time tonight, put up the replay on YouTube, also, a second replay of assegai, which I believe the ship is just as good if used right ( no bottoming out)

Assegai 1:38.74 Best first lap 20.16 ( once!) the next is 20.40. Best lap 18.68

Piranha 1:38.44. Best first lap 20.44 (3 times). Best lap 18.64

The piranha race was the only race I've done on porta without either touching another ship, or getting hit with weapons. The end of lap 3 is the killer, as well as the beginning of lap 4.

hi

if i got it right your recent Assegai Pmar racetime is better than the old Icaras time on the record tables Jab and my question wasn´t meant 100% serious;)
but regarding your Pmar time we could open a serious thread discussing on wich tracks it would be worth trying to beat the old Icaras records with slower ships.
Porta Kora does not belong to them but i made personal records on the 3 other tracks using Assegai.

That's gonna be tough to tie or beat you.

I clean up the dust from negcon, fand my memory card with SE saves on it and raced during 2 minutes : the I button failure :( , didn't want to open it i choosed a brand new one : faulty twist on the left grrr, get my last 3rd white and I button absolutely dead : 2 brand new neggies out of order :(
Luckily after fixing the spring of my 1st neg it was eventually ok for my 1st set of races.

Needs to work harder on that last shortcut, hijacking the airpin.
But one thing i can't do is re-mapping my layout buttons : it's simply too late for me to learn a new way of dealing with airbrakes on other buttons rather than on the shoulder ones. Because i know i am loosing a slight of thrust when i want to hyperthrust ( I for thrust and II for hyperthrust), same when i am using a weapon, discarding is easier but i have to release the right shoulder. ahahah life is so cruel !:twisted

I choosed Porto Kora with pirahna with this set up ! 0/63/2

1.41.44 ==> 22.04 / 20.48 / 20.20 / 19.76 / 18.96

Dan, you are right on that, and I think a 2:46 is possible with the Assegai. However, I'm quite sure a 2:42 is possible with Icarus now. I didn't race the best line with that last time and was relying on autopilots, and Arnaud raced just to beat all my records :( , and decided not to obliterate them. I do plan on testing after the challenge and see the difference. Assegai is close on manor top, pmar,and maybe hi fumii, but close means 2-5 seconds on SR. THE other tracks are huge differences

Faulty ps1 maybe but I second what said Dan and Al : Assegai is a killer through Pmar. After struggling last night testing Pirahna on that track : 10 sec from your racetime Al, I prefered to learn more through TT and Assegai with 0/45/1 as a setup.
Not a bad idea almost 1sec shaved off from old icaras! 32.44
The key is the big jump/shortcut : with internal view i am trying to see everytime the road below, if i can't see it or jumping straight forward from the jump will lead to wuss wagon. I almost land after the end of the final tunnel. You can also land properly before the tunnel entrance but this requires a perfect timing and airbraking definitely slower than previous technique tho.

2:44 is definitely possible with this. The weapon hits on lap 4 chicane are killing me

Having trouble with consistency, got a 31.20 lap on lap two one race and multiple low 32's, but can't seem to get them in my faster races. I am finding it better to pit 2-3 times, since you can still go 32.6 with a pit if everything else is in order. The damn mines when lapping them sucks as well

I didn't have time to do some more tries on Porto Kora and Manor Top, but I've got some updated times on P-Mar and Terminal with my NeGcon powered Auricom:

Nice times. I was going to update the board, but am going to wait for CRUDBALL to finish his times. I finished my pmar effort I think, my best time was a 2:45.44, but my lap wasn't fast enough to beat my second fastest time. So my final for pmar is

Yeah, it's like 5 years ago when I got 3SE and dan and me would spend hours and hours playing that game and pushing each other to always new personal best times on the tracks. :) Dan told me he has some new and slightly better times already but didn't post them yet, so our race for second / third place is far from finished yet :D

Edit: Oh and it's even closer because my total race times sum up to a 10:29.48, so we are only 0.20 seconds apart!

Ok, so yesterday I did the 8 tracks in Rapier to unlock Phantom.
Now, I did the 8 tracks on Phantom... only with Auricom (I don't need to unlock Assegai, I won't use it).

I just saw that post of yours. If i remember correctly I set those times when G'Kyl and me were playing 3SE in your house at the EWC in Frankfurt. Nice that you still have those times saved on your memorycard. :)

Nine competitors now have a full set of times. Incomplete times for CRUDBALL and asayyeah, and no times yet for infoxicated, locus2k, and task. We could have 14 if everyone gets in their times, not bad for a 12 year old game. I'll do an update later tonight to give everyone a chance to get in some more times

I was trying to push my total time under 12 min but had too much work to get done before christmas so i didn´t have enough time for practicing. So here are my final times for this challenge:

That's all I seem to do - I'm struggling to complete races at Phantom, never mind going for consistency and times.

Think I'll be posting whatever times I manage to accomplish on Friday, but they won't be threatening anything posted so far.

When I entered the pitlane at terminal, I had to go round in circles for about 5 times, only to survive the next laps.
Now that you mentioned The Who, my feat reminds me of Dead or Alive - Spin me round...

Crud ball(Rennie). Used feisar with checkpoints off until he was able to complete races, worked pretty well, then he switched ships once he was able to not hit quite as much. It also helped that I learned he liked the exact same negcon sensitivity settings that I use. He was able to turn quicker than what I initially set him up at. He is also pitching back about 3 times as much as he should, but it's keeping him off the walls :)

I usually start the race with a turbo start and immediately pull my ship a little bit to the right side of the track and hyperthrust so that I leave 2 or 3 AI ships behind me when I enter the first long right hand bend. After the bend, before the litte chicane I pull up my ship's nose and hyperthrust a little to fly right over the chicane in a straight line and land right before the next right hand bend which leads to the jump. I hyperthurst again at the moment when I leave the jump and pull my ship to the right and it's nose up so that I cut the right hand bend right after the jump and try to land my ship at the beginning of the downhill section leading into the tunnel with it's nose parallel to the track. I then go off at high speed through the tunnel and the two hard right hand bends after it. I then hit my left airbreaks before entering the left hand bend which leads to the track split before the finish line and the pit. If I go on to the finish line without going through the pit I hyperthrust again and pull my nose up and try to cut a little part of the chicane before the finish line. If I enter the pit I usually do not hyperthrust.

@tomahawk, you probably could knock off 25 seconds or so if you used piranha/assegAi for all the tracks.

I'll be glad to tally the results, but each person should verify my calculations

Ok, the Challenge is extended until friday 17th of december (today) 12 pm gmt+1.

I tried to switch to Assegai for P-Mar and Manor Top, but with so little time for racing it was impossible for me to get accustomed to any other ship than my beloved Auricom. Maybe next year I'll try another ship.
