Avalon: Pegasus - A View to an Elimination

Welcome one and all to another Avalon event! I know that this is a busy time of year for the majority of you, and me included. But what better way to have a rest from the joys of school, university and work than plopping down in a big comfortable armchair and losing yourself in some antigravity racing?

Most of you know the Avalon drill by now, and if you don't know, check last month's (Griffon). I've decided not to do the whole shebang with different 'classes' like last time. My hosting plan is going to be a cycle of 5 Phantom GPs, a Phantom Enduro, 5 Flash GPs, a Flash Enduro, and 6 ZBs, on random tracks. You have been warned. :P

I'm going to set a little challenge this Avalon for all you racers out there, by the way. I've heard people say that I'm the only reason these vents get organised... I don't buy it. I reckon you guys can sort yourselves out without me. So...


I want video proof of a full Phantom or Flash Grand Prix/Rapier Eliminator/55 Target Zone Battle at The Amphiseum (Forwards or Reverse) with EVERY PILOT flying a FEISAR, that does not include myself.

...ahem.

Anyway, feel free to throw questions or suggestions at me. I have no plans for a Celtica match this time (stress levels probably couldn't cope...) but if two other nations want to sort out their differences, far be it from me to complain. ^^

If you're interested in hosting for a particular type of event, PM me or message on this thread. We should be able to collect at least two for each to manage the day. If you're hunting for me online during the day, I will be flying a Zone Battle Qirex Fury.

I dont know how international matches work; does a "Team Spain" already exist? Anyway, i'd be glad if i played for Spain.

Well, Team Spain doesn't formally exist, however there are quite a few talented Spanish pilots out there who could form a team.

The concept is simple. It's a team race, which means you only attack pilots on the opposite side. If you see a team member in front of you for example, and you have a weapon, don't use it on them. Normally the format is all Phantom races for the eight (or twelve) tracks, but we could mix it up a bit.

That sounds great. The only problem is that i only know two other spanish pilots: morfeo and Ragsus_Maxima. Guess it is a 4vs4.
I'll tell both of them about this, maybe they know another spanish pilot.

I would definitely like to participate; however if there are more than four spanish pilots around here i dont feel at all like i can take that decision by myself as i am probably the newest spanish member here.

It can be a 3v3, Oli. All of the Celtic Alliance's matches so far have been 3v3s.

Also, if you don't want to do just Spain, there was talk of setting up a Team Mediterrania, to allow Spaniards, Portuguese, Greek and Turkish pilots to work together. You could probably find a mad Portugese guy to race with you, or ask DreamyElf, the nicest Greek I've ever met.

I am seriously starting to consider challenger's idea of "Team Mediterranea" as it seems we won't be more than three spanish in the best of the cases. I would contact DreamyElf as chal suggested :P

PD: Another idea for the future would be a "Team Iberia" (Spanish and Portugueses). "Only" problem is that i don't know Portugueses :g

Although i'm used to race against Xtriko (and kill each other) i could make an exception this time! xD

As the team we'll end creating, I just say if we don't find any Spanish racers, then I'd suggest to extend the target area to apply (in this case, we could play with all Mediterranian racers :)). I don't know any more Spaniards to race aside of Olivario and Morfeo, so we may end looking for any Mediterranian players if we're all agree.

Sounds good to me, lads and lassies (if there are any turning up for this one).

I'll be hosting a mixture of rooms throughout the day, though I'll be gone from 11:00 to 2:30 GMT for lunch, approximately. I'll host some early morning Phantom sessions for Aussies and Japanese if I can get up, and then in the afternoon I'll cycle between Phantom, Flash and Zone Battle.

My plan is going to be 5 Phantom Grands Prix followed by a Phantom Enduro, 5 Flash Grands Prix followed by a Flash Enduro, 5 Zone Battles followed by an Eliminator. Then a break of about 15 minutes for water and some fresh air.


I hate to go all public health and safety on this, but I think it bears saying. DO NOT play for more than this at one time. Avalon racing is stressful and most likely very aggravating with such high amounts of lag and weapon density. I strongly advise taking regular breaks, having a drink with no sugar in beside you, and an open window.

Also, I'll be taking the time off to just get involved in the chat room or host a video call or two. Anyone who's got a mike, say 'aye' and we'll have a good chin-wag.

And don't forget the fact that hosters stay ALL day hosting hopefully waiting for someone to join.

If it was busy as hell during the 3 days, Avalon would have still been rollin for 3 days. But unfortunately there wasn't much interest in the last few 3 day Avalons.

Personally, i found chal's choice to make this a one day event pretty logical considering the facts. :)

And then after a nice little ragequit when he was falling behind on Chenghou, he said that these races 'aren't what he's looking for'.

It was actually I who said that the last Avalon I attended was in July 2010...nothing was stated about anything being 'real' or not, it was merely the last time I had been part of an Avalon.

Xtriko said nothing out of sorts and I really am positive that you have misread what he said, and also confused it with what I was saying.

We also suggested getting a bunch of old and new wipers together for the 3rd birthday of HD...maybe thats where you saw something about 'REAL' wipers, but that is not what was written or meant.

On another note, we all appreciate what you do so please don't think otherwise. If it wasn't for you there wouldn't be an Avalon at all :)

No, Cat, you're wrong. Xtriko DID say all those things. I saw them in the chat. I'm not 'interpreting' anything here, I have absolute proof that an old-skool pilot thinks I'm a lagging, ramming, noobish prick who isn't kanar. And isn't that a ****ing shame. I'm not a lying man who cheats on his wife, what a shame.

If you guys really appreciated what I did for Avalon, maybe you'd be able to put aside the complaints about lagging, the complaints about ramming, the whining and the complaining about times and weapons and tracks and whatever have you.

I try and run these out of the goodness of my heart. You wouldn't even have them since last year if I hadn't taken the Marcus memorial stuff into my own hands. I try and push you guys into doing races together as teams. I try and organise new ideas to bring in different pilots. I've tried to do this the best I can, and all I get is the same. People complaining when Rezatron is in the room, Ace3Cube whining about how there's no Green and how everyone is a second account. Dark Phantom ragequitting every half race. NOBODY but me being able to host an interesting and varied way.

I'm sorry, but enough is enough. I was thinking I'd stay with this until PSVita, but I think I can do without endless forays into the thoughts of why I don't deserve to run this, or how I could run it better. It's yours, take it.

Here's an idea for future Avalons: if you want a particular game, host it yourself? If you want Green, host and tell everyone its a Green room, if you want weapons off, or Venom Elim, or ZB etc etc, host it yourself? Surely this way there would be a lot less flak flying around that no one deserves. And if your room stays empty... Well that just means your mode is unpopular, so you can either abandon it and play something others are willing to play, without complaint, or you sit and wait for people to join your room.

I've just finished for the day. Shame I couldn't be around for more of it but I had other commitments today I'm afraid.

Even so had some great races, Flash and Phantom, bit of ZB and some late night Elims with Denton, Ragsus, Oliver et al. Not got that much video but what I did get will be up next week at some point.

Many thanks to Chal for organising it, and to everybody who hosted and raced, many coming out of various stages of retirement for this legendary semi-regular get-together.

Whilst it's a great pity some of you guys seem to be falling out for whatever reasons, one thing cannot be stressed enough. It is always perfectly acceptable to slag off Denton, whatever the circumstances :g

p.s. chal, i'm telling you this as a friend (take it or leave it), you know that many people here really appreciate your efforts on everything you do, not only on Avalon but on many others threads.
I don't know what you expect in return but you MUST learn sooner than later that you can't make everyone happy and be friends with everyone (that goes in life too).
That is IMPOSSIBLE.

If you want to give something, do it for yourself and expect nothing in return.
Even if only one person smiles or says thanks to you, you should be happy. :)

Hey Geeza, good to have a few races with you at the weekend, albeit briefly. Next Avalon I was thinking it would be good to host some Rapier races. Personally I'm much more comfortable at Rapier than Phantom, but it gives more of an adrenaline rush than flash, and I know a few people who feel the same.

If the room doesn't take off then fine, easily dropped, but it's worth a try isn't it? Some Rapier Elims would be good too I reckon :rock

Yes, I remember (somehow)! That was awesome. We need to do some more drunken Avalon or something. I'll try to attend next time (I was going to drop in for a few races this time, but I was too busy on Saturday). ;)

I have to say that a I had a great time playing Avalon. Thanks to challenger for making this possible and to all the people I played with, especially to Team England's people and of course my Team Mediterranea mates; that was an amazing tournament (well, there were four tournaments finally, not bad :beer).

Hopefully I'll be there in future Avalons :P
