The same, I can't connect.
I've tried for ages, rather ironic considering I haven't tried for ages.
I doubt they would close the servers if the NGP is going to use a direct port of HD/FURY, they would utilize the same ones.

Anonymous,did you consider this side-effect?
Colonel
21st April 2011, 05:26 PM
I'm on their side, they're fighting for rights of PS3 owners everywhere. Yes it sucks that we're caught in the middle, and Anonymous know that, but if they win and Sony have to re-think their policies, then it's a victory for consumers everywhere, particularly PS3 owners.
Sony have proven themselves time and time again to be completely apathetic to the needs or wishes of their customers, safe in the knowledge that millions will buy their products regardless. I applaud Anonymous for what they're doing. Fk Sony, power to the people. We may have to suck it up for a while, but hopefully we'll awake to a better World.
I say all this (a little drunk) but if Avalon get's fked up by this I'm with Sony, crush the commie bastards.

I usually side with anonymous, and I will for this one as well. People watch and laugh when it's for something that doesn't effect them, but now that it inconveniences your daily life you're against it entirely.
Their decision making is typically very logical and thought out. Besides, a few days without PSN could be a good thing for me.
UB3R~JKP
22nd April 2011, 10:24 AM
The anons are just imbelcelic morons who need to give themselves self-gratifation from their crappy lives. The idea here makes /no/ sense whatsoever. Oh, nobody else was affected except a few with other OS but they think taking down the PSN is a good idea cause everyone will know what it feels like to be denied a service they paid for?
WRONGO.
Do you think if a cop got shot and other cops didn't it would make it ok to go shoot all if them so they no what it feels like?
The 'anon' supporters are just your typical 'rebel against the system' people- sony aint half as bad as they people think! The anons turned from a great activist group into a stupid, pointless 'hacker' group that aim to hurt people.

A belated statement has be made by Sony saying maintenance is being done and the PSN should be back online within the next 18 hours from the time I posted this.
B.S. IMHO as they always warn people at least a few days in advance at least at one official PSforum, and they haven't anywhere this time.
Also add to the fact that that they only ever do maintenance in one particular region for a maximum 10-12 hours period, this has been close to 3 days worldwide, something bigger is going on.
I don't know why, but the worse hit area has been Japan, they have been without the PSN for nearly 2 weeks apart for one or two days

Sony just announced they are rebuilding the system, god knows how long it's going to be down.
QUOTE:
We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.

I always thought the PSN was the only service with 100% free online. We now have to pay time and to an extent money. The PC has GFW and Xbox is subscription only.
Why do I have to pay for something I could do for free 3 years ago? WHY!

I think Sony are handling this very well to be honest. Their communication has been excellent. You can't put the network back online if there's a risk of accounts being hacked and credit card numbers flying around. They are taking the steps necessary to fix this issue, so be it. The weather's lovely!

Nobody's really in a position to demand anything from them, they're rebuilding the network, they're not leaving it, after all, they could just let your account get cracked and al of your account information be known to the rest of the world, but they're not.
If you wanted to talk with your friends using headsets whilst playing a game, use it in the game, or use the video chat rooms, you can't really do both without losing some amount of concentration on either task. It's up to developers wether they want you to be able to talk inside the game or outside of it, it's the same thing with custom soundtracks, really.
If you give the ability to use your own media in game, or to talk with others about anything but the game, then the developer has to compensate for that by dumbing down some potentially brilliant atmospheric assets, you'd essentialy be bringing something atmospheric and immersive, eg any wipeout game, to the same level as the generic trash on the mass market, curiously where most thirteen/ fourteen year olds can be found, attempting to insult each others mothers, who are paying for them to do that.
(and yes, I know you were referencing mostly xBox Live with the party reference, that's why I wrote it.)

24th April 2011, 04:15 PM
I don't understand people like icarasDragon & Oryx Crake who are getting very angry about this. You can't expect Sony to have it up and running quickly if they have been forced to "rebuild their entire internet infrastructure" as they worded it. A rushed job would simply come back with further problems. Plus unlike Xbox which uses current PC technology, PS3 is still new. I imagine it would be impossible to know all the ways a hacker could cause problems until it does. PC's were no different.
Considering the severity of whats happening the problem must have been horrific. I'm no techy, but I imagine PSN must have taken a considerable time to build. Now they're back to square one.
If PSN returns more stable, more secure, and with a better connection than before you'll all be cheering that Sony took their time with this. Plus the service is free, people shouldn't forget that.
:):+ Jav and all who think Sony are handling the problem well. All too often Console / Game companies etc. go completely silent when a problem arises.

These are dark days for PlayStation 3 gamers. The PlayStation Network has been out of commission (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1163299p1.html) since Wednesday evening, and ever since then, access to the PSN and the PlayStation Store has been cut off. That means that you can't download titles, sync your Trophies, or even play online multiplayer. In a sense, outages like this should be expected with the PlayStation Network. It's a free service and as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. But this lack of a financial stake for customers seems to equate to the lackadaisical response from Sony itself.

I have to say, I disagree saying that Sony should 'refund' us for damages caused. Sure, I'm angry about the disruption, but there's nobody to blame but the hackers that caused the damage. Sony's had its' share of hard times with the tsunami that damaged their Japanese HQ and brought down PSN Asia for a while. I'm unhappy I can't play my games online, I admit. But I'm not paying a monthly fee for this, I don't see why I should somehow get 'refunded' for something I didn't pay for.
It would be nice if say, there was a discount on some items in the PSN store, but I think we have to grit our teeth and get through this.

and besides its not free for ps+ subscribers.
Im not to botherd by the downtime because iv been busy,
But, The People 99% of them (sonys customers) are asking 1 question.... How long? but just like all customer service... they never answer the real questions! even if they said "a month" i would be happy!! at least i could forget about it.

I honestly just dont get it... or rather what makes me angry is that the only thing the hackers have achieved is to piss off people who want to enjoy a good evenings gaming every now and then (or too often, as you said, in my case) so theres no real purpose to the attack. That pisses me off more than anything because that indicates to me that the hacker in question is just an asshole who somehow gets off on angering other people.
I dont care much about how long it takes for sony to rebuild the system(yes I am a bit bitter that there was no avalon this weekend but these things happen) so long as it stays free, safe and stable. BUT as I've already stated it angers me that some little creep thinks it's funny to mess with 70milion users and for what?! it just doesnt make sense.

The only thing that tips me off a bit is that Sony aren't releasing enough information. All I want to know is wether they've salvaged the account list (so we don't have to recreate them and lose any credit we have) and wether PS+ users will have their billing months reset or similar (For the portion they couldn't use), and JUST HOW LONG will the code monkeys take.
I'll be happy just to know to when it'll be down let alone account info.

The hackers got pissed because sony disabled some things from the ps3 that hardly anyone knew about... apart from hackers.
They believe its unfair of sony to remove features that were on the ps3 as standard but its a security risk for sony and iv never heard of this thing they removed.
So the hackers are just doing this for themselves, because there not customers anymore as all there games are hacked and they contribute nothing to sony.
They also say sony are just money takers.... but aren't all companies?

While running the risk of being repetitive it sounds to me like the hackers in question are just arseholes out to ruin someone's day to make a name for themselves... Or if I'm being slightly more lenient, completely misguided idealists with a cause that is to say the least questionable.
Honestly this is I'm sure a bit of a headache for sony but in the end the ones who are punished are the customers. Not I think the intended effect, so good on ya hackers! way to go on making yourselves look bad!

I found it interesting that even though I can't sign into PSN, when I went to try some demos for the first time (that I'd downloaded ages ago), they required updates before playing--the updates downloaded just fine.
So the servers must be up and running, right?
I'm far happier that they're trying to fix a hack than let us play on unawares and just wait for our Credit card numbers to get stolen...
Also, why does this hack have to be someone who's just out to hate Sony? It could easily have been done strictly for financial gain--there's certainly enough gamers with credit tied into the PSN.
Thanks for info blackwiggle, very informative (unless you're a skeptic)

It appears that the reason the PSN is down is because of a Jailbreak misuse.
A moderator at PSX-Scene posted this.
QUOTE:
Ok, I've seen a bunch of speculation of why people think PSN is down, and I thought I should just post what the community knows in comparison to what Sony is telling everyone. The truth is, there was a new CFW (custom firmware) released known as Rebug (http://rebug.me). It essentially turns a retail console into a dev console (not fully, but gives you a lot of the same options that usually dev's only have access to). Anyway, this new CFW was quickly figured out by 3rd parties (not Rebug) to give CFW users access to the PSN network again via the dev networks. With a little manipulation of the URL's through a proxy server you could get your hacked console back online. Not that big of a deal, right? Well, it also turns out that some people over at NGU found out that you could provide fake CC# info and the authenticity of the information was never checked as you were on Sony's private developer PSN network (essentially a network that Sony trusted). What happened next was extreme piracy of PSN content. Sony realizing the issue here shut down the network. Now, before you go freaking out about the latest information posted about Kotaku, no ones personal information was accessible via this hack. Not to say they couldn't get it, but no one is admitting to it being available. Anyway, that's the real reason for the PSN downtime. Sony is now rebuilding all of it's PSN servers to be more secure and (hopefully) make sure the CFW users cannot get online anymore.
Edit #1: To those of you saying that this is speculation, you are correct. But, it is speculation based on a lot of facts and the outcome seems to make the most sense.
1. Rebug was released on 3/31/11.
2. First guides of how to use the dev network to get back on COD games on 4/3/11. 3. Word of "shady" sites finding a way to pirate PSN content via the dev networks on 4/7/11 (basing this on posts I had to delete on the website). 4. PSN goes down on 4/20/11
Now, you can believe Sony's PR team which has kept you completely in the dark, or you can see the list of events above and come to your own conclusion. Now, this isn't the first time Sony has fought back against the PS3 modders from getting on PSN. A couple of months ago we had a utility called f*ckPSN that changed the necessary header information that was being sent to Sony to allow modified consoles back online. We were able to use it for about a month. Then came the new TOS, the mass e-mail to PS3 customers, and software update 3.56 and 3.60. So, once again, yes this is all speculation, but it is speculation based on previous actions and known facts.
Edit #2: Mathieulh just mentioned that he has been in contact with someone that has official access to the SCE devnet servers and it was posted to them today that only 3.60+ debug firmwares will be allowed on the dev network anymore. All earlier versions will be cut. If you want to retain your access you need to contact Sony and upgrade to 3.60 debug firmware.
Edit #3: Ok, it looks like some various news sites have picked up this story and taken it out of context. Once again, this is all speculation and information gathered from various devs in the PS3 scene. It might very well not be the real reason PSN is down, but as the timeline fits, it's a reasonable explanation. Now, as to Rebug directly allowing this to happen, that's not the case at all. Different CFW's have had access to the dev network the whole time. This is not new news for people in the PS3 scene. It's what people have figured out what to do with the said network that has caused all the recent issues. Saying that Rebug is what did this is like saying a gun manufacturer is responsible for every death that happens with a gun.

I'm sad and happy that this happend. I can't go online, SO I work on getting trophies! I wonder, what's happening to Sony right now, at this moment...
If Sony and Microsoft uses both systems, on ONE server. Therefore, someone with a Xbox360 hates Sony and tries to hack them (or vise versa), NO ONE goes online... (too far, eh?) Plus it is better than buying both system just so you can play with friends.
If Sony told us what happend and how we can help, I'll hop on a plane and I'll be there, ASAP!

Well for some reason yesterday i got on the playstation store on my PSP, it's odd, and those hacker's who did it, give a bad name too the hacker's who actually do some good with what they do, but the one's that taken PSN down are bad, the give good hacker's a bad name*rage's*
but i hope it is back up soon, but can anyone explain how i managed too access PSN on my PSP? i just updated my PSP too firmware 6.38 2 day's ago
me myself support the PSP and PS3 hacking community, But however this is just too far im angry that this has happened, But When you think about it, it is not just the hacker's fault, Sony should've had better hack-proof security, But the hacker's could've rather then bringing PSN down, they could've just let it slide, like the PSP hacking community doe's,(stupid downgrader's for PSP 6.38 not not existing) but i still think these people who hacked PSN should be Punished
However think of this wouldn't it make more sense if sony let the hacker's continue making game's and extention's for the PS3 and PSP, i know it sound's dum im saying this but, it could attract more people too PSP's and PS3's if sony allowed some of the Special add-on's and homebrew game's the hacker's make, PSP and PS3 Sale's would go up, anyone know what im saying, but still, hacker's have gone too far, some of us may have lost online stat's and everything we had worked for in some online game's and program's *rage's*

The hackers didn't bring the PSN down.
Sony found out that the hackers had gained access to the trusted developers portion of the PSN by manipulation of this new CFW, then entering via a proxy server and by using a signature that Sony's security wasn't programmed to verify.
That's like you having a PC security program that doesn't look for Trojans, pretty useless, or a thief putting a mask on disguising themselves as somebody you know, and you thinking it's them letting them in your house.
The major security lapse by Sony was not thinking that they were vulnerable to people being able to access the core of it's servers via this means, and being so trusting that no verification was asked for.
Sony would of had no option but to shut the PSN down after such a horrendous breach.
As it is Sony has no idea what data was taken, or I imagine how many different people were using the same exploit to enter, or how many times they had done so before the breach was discovered.
jesse9705
26th April 2011, 07:29 AM
my guess is they most likely stole data needed to make down-grader's for most OFW, and possible exploit's in firmware
but with this data they could end up being able to make a exploit on any PSP or PS3 system, but who knows
blackwiggle
26th April 2011, 08:31 AM
Well once they were in they had access to the raw game code for any game that is up at the various PStores, very easy to copy it.
And from what the moderator at the PSX site said, he had to delete a post explaining just how to do this, so I guess somebody DID actually do this otherwise this information wouldn't be known.
If you follow the timeline of events as they unfolded over the last 2 weeks you will see that it was the Japanese server that got hit first, I suspect that is the core entry port for developers, the one the hackers found themselves entering by.
The Japanese PSN's services were disrupted a week before the others, they were on & off, mostly off from what I've been told, and I guess somebody finally twigged what the hell was going on, once it was verified Sony told all regions to shut down.
Sony would of shut down the PSN as much to stop the gathering of credit card/account details of PS users as it would to protect the actual games themselves.
I imagine everybody in the gaming industry would be extremely worried about just what was taken during the time these hackers had access.
You have to realize that these are legitimate copies of games that were made available via this security breach.
It would be easy to replicate them and make them available as disc versions to be played back by any legitimate standard PS3.
Keep an eye out at your nearest dodgy supplier of burnt DVD/Bluray discs for some PS3/PSP games that can be downloaded into Media GO! then transferred to your PS3/PSP.
Or even played directly from the burnt disc.

They get employed by the person whom they hacked to help prevent future attacks, which is stupid but understandable...
If they ever catch the person who fronted this attack they will just get a slap on the wrist and a seat at sony headquarters...
This always happens and the hackers know it.

If it's the one that has caused all this trouble is another matter.
Either way, corporate business wise this is to Sony what the recent earthquake/Tsunami/Nuclear disaster has been to Japan.
Depending on the outcome of personal data loss or not Sony has got a PR minefield to cross, it's going to make BP's oil spill look small time if ID theft on a grand scale befalls people.

Be that as it may, I'm getting a new credit card just the same.
It's all about trust. There are very few places on the internet I trust to keep my primary email address and even fewer I let keep my credit card number. PSN was one of those places.
And quite frankly, if Sony exposed their entire PSN infrastructure to be raped by that bunch of Anon/OtherOS retards they don't deserve my business anymore. They are simply not fit to be allowed to handle money on my behalf. Did you see that logfile? Amateur hour. FFS...
I can now look forward to even more spam, and if I'm really lucky my account details was already sold on and abused.

One of the reasons I mentioned I pulled out of the cup was because I was concerned about PSN security and didn't want to log onto the network. Shame that wasn't enough and every single user's data has been stolen.
I'm just glad the information for the CC# I used has expired. I used an email account I try to only use on "secure" sites and stuff, and didn't get any spam; now that may change... this is a colossal failure on Sony's part, and if CC details have been compromised, I totally feel it'd be okay if the company got sued into oblivion right now for this.

To the people raging at Anonymous:
Firstly, Anonymous is a largely unorganised group of individuals with no relation to each other. There are people who are just there for lols, people who want to change things, and they all have varying degrees of ability to succeed in either category. Hacking a company like HBGary (a security firm) was by no means a job done by "script kiddies". That means some people in Anonymous are not retarded, and I don't think anyone calling them as such will bother them. However, it kind of is funny that someone in the group decided to release a statement saying it wasn't them. There's no way for them to know that, and as of right now, to most people, the hacker truly is anonymous - including to them.
Secondly, the biggest problem in this circumstance is Sony's grossly incompetent security measures. Accounts indicate that all user data was provided in plain text and freely available on the dev section of the PSN, which itself should not be part of the the user PSN at all. Blaming any hacker(s) for compromising user data forgets that Sony has a duty to care for the user data provided to them for a service. There's always a risk of being compromised, and Sony did not do enough to protect users. There are simple measures that could have been taken to prevent this from happening, and there are so many of these measures that have just been entirely discarded in the creation of the PSN it truly beggars belief.

Personally I disagree. Sony's security shortcomings are a problem but the main problem is the selfish losers who decided to put 70million+ people out in order to boost their own egos.
EDIT: Regarding their competence, fair enough I'm sure some of them must have very advanced computer security skills but it's always easier to pull off an attack than to pre-emptively defend against all possible attacks. If they're really that great, they should be putting their skills into top tier security jobs.
@megageeza
If they have your card no, expiry date, name and dob, then all that's really lacking from making bogus payments is your 3 digit security number which is not really a sufficient security barrier so replacing your cards really does make sense...

What I would like to know is if the PSN has been down for a week, and the official Sony Playstation forums are linked to the PSN, they to should be unable to be logged onto and posted at, just viewable, which has been the case for me.
But I notice that there are 4 or 5 people that have still manage to post there over this time, and they are not moderators or admins.
Also I know of two people in Sweden that have been able to connect to the PSN and update their trophy stats, although they have said it has been tortuously slow for them to do so.
Honestly Sony, I don't know why you just don't cut out the middle man and just move all the servers to Nigeria, at least we would KNOW where we stood if that were the case.

... it doesn't make it OK for anyone to just walk in and take whatever they want.
I know, but to say that you expect every person in the world to be an upstanding citizen in your definition of the term is perhaps a little bit of wishful thinking.
This is virtually the equivalent of giving your money and details to a bank, and all of that is stored in the bank's managerial office, secured by a simple lock. The reason why it hasn't already been stolen is because nobody ever thought a bank could ever be so stupid.
Again, if you're taking people's money, you have a duty of care to ensure that your customer's details are kept confidential. Sony just threw them behind a door they foolishly never expected to be breached, so they just left everything in plain view. It's gross negligence, and if you knew your bank did that, they wouldn't be your bank for much longer; and if the only way you found out about this practise was because they released a statement saying everything they have has been stolen... well.
The whole "they took our OtherOS so now we steal from +70 mill users or at least wreck their network" is getting old real fast.
I can't believe anyone expected that excuse to be taken at face value. Everyone who said it just wanted free games.

amplificated, you keep my hopes up. At least someone else understands what is actually happening and isn't blowing this out of proportion.
But I have a question for you since you seem more knowledgeable in this area than I am. Do you think the only users who might have had their CC's compromised are users with PS+? From what I can logically guess is CC's aren't tied to accounts (server-side at least) unless there's a regularly occurring payment of sorts. What do you think?
amplificated
27th April 2011, 08:41 PM
I don't think there's any more risk for + subscribers than regular users who have used their CC information. I don't have it myself, but I'm pretty sure the subscription is payed for from the billing details you provide your account, as is normal.
The credit cards should not have been accessible at all if Sony was using industry standard practises, but if they weren't and if you had your CC's details saved on your account for easy purchasing, that CC will be compromised. I don't think it matters if the CC was used regularly or not. I'm not sure if Sony deleted your CC details from their end if you chose to not save your info, either.

27th April 2011, 10:49 PM
Alright, thanks for the reply. I still thought the "easy billing" was saved locally though, suppose I learned something new.
Either way, I'm pretty sure the most that will happen out of this is users will need to change their passwords, email accounts will get more spam, and Sony's reputation will take a nose dive while the Xbox users get a 1up on the PS3 in the console wars.
Can't wait for the PSN to get back up though, I do want to try and get a few races in online before I get too rusty.

I'm asking for a replacement card tomorrow, more & more alarming news all over the world OMG. Sorry to sound alarming but it can't be a simple coincidence there; Australia, US, Spain... The most dramatic thing is; (if it's confirmed) if you bought something on the psn, your CC is compromised. GAH.
blackwiggle
28th April 2011, 01:48 AM
At the moment I think it's just a bit of a coincidence that people are reporting CC theft, it's probably due to usage through some other store.
The affected people probably only started really checking their accounts due to the warning Sony issued.
With 70+ million PSN users your going to have some people that are victims of CC fraud despite having their CC info stored on the Sony servers.
Here's a classic example of how this sort of stuff happens, say you have kids, and one of the kids in the house answers the phone, the fraudster ask for some CC details and the kid gives them to them, BING, your stuffed and none the wiser.
Some could stupidly be doing financial transactions over a mobile phone or wireless internet at a rest/store, internet cafe etc, all notorious for this sort of thing.
I mean you also have the common practice in the USA where kids are given their parents CC to go and purchase things, or a wife can use her husbands CC [or the other way around] and nobody batters an eyelid, not exactly secure financial practices, that sure doesn't happen in Australia, the UK and most of Europe would probable be the same unless common sense has disappeared.

If Sony are smart [god knows they need to do something right] they will stagger turning back on the PSN by areas, otherwise I can see an almighty crash happening once people realize it's back up.
The PSN is going to be as fast as a striking sea slug anyway for the first few days, as everybody is going to need to download the new system software, change their passwords and sync their trophies, times that by 70 million.

I think majority of those claims are purely through paranoia. CC fraud happens everyday all over the world, now they just have someone (or something) to pin it on who can't defend themselves. I personally think people should stop turning their backs on Sony in their current state. Like blackwiggle said, people only checked because of what happened. Hell, I'm sure some people are expecting "compensation" as well which will lead to more claims. Not to mention anyone who has stolen a CC before and has been having trouble finding a good time to use it just hit the jackpot.
We'll see as time goes on. If someone really hacked PSN for CC info, they wouldn't buy a plane ticket to Germany. That's so easy for someone to trace back to them after doing something like, let's say, hacking PSN.
Of course I'm still checking my account on a regular basis. Even so, my email/password combination and the card used for my PSN are hardly worth hacking, so I'm still in the clear.

Just because CC data is claimed to have been encrypted, doesn't exactly mean it's safe. I have a friend who has shown me that many weak encryption methods can be broken in seconds, even for passwords that would be considered solid.
Sony hasn't, as reported in this BBC article (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13231307), declared what type of encryption they used. I wouldn't feel too safe as of yet, unfortunately.

I saw a report in a Sony blog saying Sony were not only rewriting the software side of server, but were also physically moving their servers to far more secure place.
I guess the security company brought in gave them a full report of all the places they need to address security issues.
That's going to be a big job.
They have to find somewhere to house them, rewire the place and make sure it has uninterruptable power supplies, disassemble the servers from the old place[s], move then securely and then reinstall in the new place, and then reconfigure and test it all before putting the PSN back up.:eek
They still would have an easier time than I've had over the last 1.5 days clean installing windows and trying to get video drivers to work.:brickwall :lol

I doubt that by physical they mean physically move the servers to another DC hoster/place. They'll just utilize the big pipes and provision the servers when the SW regression tests finished. I hope that Sony is able to handle that in a secure way. Anyway, this won't close the security gap by a big margin - IMO. I think I read something on social engineering to gain access ...

I don't know if this is totally standard credit card procedure, but all my credit cards have 100% fraud protection. I keep a close eye on charges anyway, so while I'm worried I'll have to deal with a problem when/if it occurs, there's no way I'm going to go order a new card if nothing is happening anyway.
I recommend to anyone to read your credit card terms and benefits before going through a lot of headache trying to replace cards.
Also, while everyone is all-out bashing Sony about this security hack, don't forget that about 2 weeks ago, user information from major online companies including PayPal was stolen directly from their servers. While I understand that only User ID's and email addresses were obtained, that is still rather unnerving, as I for one have always assumed (ass u me) that Paypal would have one of the most secure sites, period.
While I can't seem to find the news article, just look what popped up as I looked:
http://www.cardingplanet.com/stolen-verified-paypal-accounts.htm
So really, while this is a huge mess-up for Sony, I hope people realize that this sort of thing is going on all the time, and we should be watching our backs and covering our butts all the time, not just with "evil Sony".

I've read this, for all people concerned about getting a new credit card:
Hirai said that no improper CC usage has been reported and they have no evidence of CC info being compromised. They said that Sony will pay for CC reissuing and assist with monitoring/insurance programs for customers. If there are any improper charges, they will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Taken from this (http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/h1anz/key_points_from_the_sony_conference/) reddit thread, which provides bullet points of a recent Sony conference.
So, people like Kanar who have changed their CC should ask Sony for a refund if they want.
blackwiggle
2nd May 2011, 02:27 AM
I can't help being cynical about Sony's announcement of giving away 30 days free Plus+ subscription.
I see it as being done as a test to see what damage to consumer confidence this fiasco has been, your not actually getting anything, as you will have to pay $$ to become a Plus+ subscriber if you want to actually keep anything you download during those free 30 days.
So Sony will be monitoring who, how many and which regions people are removing their details and abandoning online purchases via their CC.
Remember, it's a lot easier to make a impulse purchase by just adding funds to your wallet via CC than it is to buy pre paid cards, and that is what Sony wants, and I think has been relying on in revenue projections.
I know I've been guilty of doing it in the past, so have a lot of other PS3 owners I know.
They got over AUS$300 in one hit for me once like that when I decided to purchase every bit of LBP DLC while bored and inebriated.:rolleyes:

At least Sony have acknowledged that they are in the wrong by giving out free subscriptions. I'll hold judgement on the offer until I see exactly what's available. If it's a bunch of games that are outdated or had poor sales then it won't exactly be great, but at least it's something.

I also heard that of the 77million users that about 10million CC's were leaked maybe from the PSN attack. So even though they're not completely admitting to it, there's about a 1 in 7 chance that a PSN users CC was stolen.

Turn off the TV and un plug it from the wall, let it sit for a few minutes, then get a pair of needle nosed pliers and remove the plug that way.
If you leave the broken plug in the set there is a possibility that you will short out your TV at worse, or scramble the inputs selection at least.

Stupid F****** hackers!!!!!
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/05/06/hackers-planning-new-attack-this-weekend/
If i ever see or find a hacker i would be the last face they ever see.....
Go hack a porn site... then give me the passwords lol.
If i was sony i would sue these idiots for loss of earnings and make sure they never get internet again!!!
As much as the situation is incredibly annoying and these apparent hackers are ridiculous. Grouping all of them into the same category as "stupid ****ing hackers" is on par with hacking the PSN a third time.
Also, if Sony, with the help of about 7 US agencies and 3 security firms, can't find them then how in the world would they sue them?
Lighten up, you act like they've taken your firstborn from you. Just let Sony take care of their problems and support them when they need it. Throwing a fit isn't helping anyone. If anything, these next batch of hackers will probably find it funny.

these idiots who plant viruses into your computers, and perform stunts like this sony thing need punishment. They do this because there is none. Put some away for a very long time, then it may slow down. Why don't these people get jobs, I am assuming this is a difficult thing to do, seems like they could benefit society rather than cause chaos. the only people they help out are PC repairmen

It only does oft-lying!
I've had it worse than any of you. My PS3 actually ylod'd in the *middle* of the network crash. Like a tool, I just ran out and got a Slim, sure, but now there's nought I can do with it.
Can't access games I've purchased because PSN is down.
Can't restore my old games because PSN is down and some retarded DRM software engineering tool thought it would be a good idea that to restore your system there needs to be a bloody link to your PSN account through 'system activation'.
Hence, can't play Wipeout. I'm sitting here playing single player Motorstorm, which isn't bad, but isn't the experience I originally purchased. Serious withdrawal here. :(

Frailavi.... lighten up? i wouldnt go as far as to say i was throwing a fit, i find it ridiculous that hackers who work for free just want to interfere... what joy do they get? sitting there pointing at there pc monitor saying "It was me, it was me" lol... sad.
If you have sympathy for these new hackers who want to make your details public just say it.
So im just as bad as these hackers because i call them stupid?
What is your opinion of these new hackers?
I hope i dont see your details posted on some random website.... ;)

That's not what Frailavi was saying. He in fact said that these apparent hackers are ridiculous, but you can't group them all into the same category. Anonymous for example aren't out to cause trouble, they fight for customer rights. It may still have been one of the guys involved with Anonymous, but they simply may not know. But I'm sure it wasn't an organized attack by Anonymous.
Of course he doesn't want to have his credit card details appear on some website. :?
People are getting way frustrated over this. By the way, it will be back next week. My guess is next wednesday.

Any hacker that wants to publish our personal details is stupid...
My first comment was meant to be light hearted... i even joked about them giving me some porn passwords lol, hackers who just want to fight for our rights is still wrong in my opinion, if there hacks dont affect millions of people thats ok but these hackers just want to cause grief...
I never said all hackers are stupid... i posted a link about the hackers that were "stupid"

It took me 15 seconds to find this (http://www.news.com.au/technology/anonymous-attack-targets-epilepsy-sufferers/story-e6frfro0-1111115935811) Don't try to make them out as some freedom fightin' consumer watchdogs, because they really are not. That they partly originated on 4chan should tell you exactly what kind of people they are.
I don't know who wrecked PSN - it doesn't really matter anyhow. I'll never trust Sony with any electronic information again.

This community is the only one that I've seen that respects each other and everyone is laid back. Don't let this get the better of you. Look at the bright side. I mean, really, just look outside; it's quite bright out there.
I apologize Mega if my reply seemed harsh. I might have read yours in the wrong tone, as I believe you might have for mine as well. No hard feelings mate!
But mic-dk, can you name an organization or company that's never done anything wrong? Granted anonymous often does it for no reason, but we don't blindly support anonymous, we just support them when we think it's right. Being organized from 4Chan means nothing. If anything, it just shows they don't have any real agenda behind their actions.
PS. You got my back Jav, hi5

I'm pretty sure no organisation is pure in the eyes of the Lord, but you can't seriously compare them to e.g Red Cross? Anon wasn't exactly founded with charity in mind. The only analogy I can come up with at the moment is the creation of the german autobahns, but you'll then be able to invoke Godwin and I'll lose by default ;)
Simply because you in this case agree with their action, doesn't make them more right. You write yourself that they have no particular agenda - I absolutely agree. It just kinda clashes with your trying to paint then as Defenders of Consumers Everywhere.
I'll go outside now and mow my lawn - it'll be a lot easier to keep the neighbourhood kids of it once they can't hide in the bushes :D

Of course theres no hard feelings! you can say what you like lol but how can you back a group that has inflicted epileptic fits onto people? those people could of died and for what? Its the same dude pointing at his pc monitor laughing "it was me, it was me" Pathetic.
Give us some info about the good things that they have done!

@mic Haha, give those poor kids somewhere to stay!
Well I believe that anonymous doesn't have an agenda (aka only do something until it's no longer interesting) and isn't the defenders of anything, except wiki-leaks maybe. But it doesn't mean they haven't started a project with good intentions, even if that means using underhanded methods to try and accomplish it.
Not even sure why we're talking about them right now to be honest.
@Mega Good to know we can have a light hearted discussion then.

I looked some of them up. But most of them were pretty obvious.
So they've helped arrest a child molester, assisted the Egyptian people (even if it had little effect they did something) in forcing their president to step down, and most of all attack anyone trying to censor the internet.
I know they've probably done just as many socially unacceptable things as well, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't ever side with them.

i just read this link and anon dont sound like people who are looking out for our best interests.
they seem more like a group of individuals who compete with each other for forum fame in how big or funny a hack they can do where we are just fooder for their hacking activitys..

No problem... im just glad that you dont try to get me banned because i dont agree with you, unlike some people....
I do agree with you about hackers exposing child molesterers and other similar things so yes not all hackers are bad, but these psn hackers just do it for the lulz and theres no reason for them to do it no matter how much they try to justify it.

i spoke to some guy on the net he can hack and knows many bigtime hackers who do hacking jobs for cash..he said anon basically do what they want when they want..they serve themselves and have no agenda or values just whatever takes there fancy and earns them brownie points with their peers.
i believe if anon are involved with the psn hack they will eventually be caught and dealt with..might take time but i think they have overstpepped the mark and the authorities wont be able to let it go...

What new talent can you teach yourself over 3 weeks?
I've got some new Lynda.com video tutorials for Adobe Photoshop CS5/PremiereCS5/Affter effects CS5 I'll be watching.
I suppose I could watch those ad get used to the new layout/features even though I can't run the programs yet.

Yeah, I figured next week would've been way too soon to finish a project this big and test it to any degree.
I hope they don't rush it so it'll have to go in maintenance every other day until Christmas though.
@Mega Yeah, I don't deny that anonymous isn't looking out for everyone. I'm sure anything 'good' they do is because one of their own is effected or it's just where the spotlight is at the time. Either way, I really doubt they hacked the PSN for peoples info. There are way too many of them that would blab their mouth off about it and how 'awesome it was'.

is it me or is it that sony PR have really been crap in the way they have handled this situation by way of information they have released and the way they have or in nearly all cases not communicated with their customers..
apart from links here which other meembers have posted im clueless to whats going on..maybe its me maybe its not..what do other players think...:)

That's kinda funny, as earlier I was thinking that Sony has done a decent job considering what's happened; other than their uncertainty of credit card details being stolen or not in the initial hack.
I don't think there's much more they could be doing. I may be wrong there, but from what I can tell, it seems the damage has already been done, and Sony is doing a serviceable job of repairing their mistakes. It doesn't make their mistakes (embarrassingly abysmal protection schemes) any lesser, and I wouldn't expect a company to be doing any less than what they are doing, but yeah... there's just not a lot more I know of that they could be doing.

I think the PR has been the worst part, so it's not just you. Much of the anger towards SONY could've been made into more anger at the hackers and more sympathy for SONY if played correctly through their blogs and senior leadership... But it seems that SONY didn't even have a contingency plan for something of this nature, which seems stupid because of the things that have been happening over the last 6-9 months(ps3's being cracked etc.) Basically they're playing this by ear and it shows. This is a huge blackeye for SONY and it couldn't have come at a worse time seeing as we're about a month out from E3 and nintendo has recently announced a successor to the wii. But E3 could also be a way to help SONY save/mend it's image a bit. Either way it's disastrous and highly embarassing for such a giant in the industry to be brought to it's knees by hackers.:paperbag

Since when was it Anon that hacked Sony?
Am I missing something here? How can you claim justice when it's nothing important getting hacked? Nothing was 'avenged' nor was anything really damaged at all. PSN is still down and they still don't know who did it. It's not justice until the culprit is caught, not your scapegoat having an inner struggle.
