It's the day of love!
The day you go out tonight, If you don't have a mate(female or male occupancy) you go out and find you one.
Go listen to some old love songs!
Barry White
Luther!!!!
Teddy Pete
Sinatra
This is the day, were if your alone tonight, and you think just because your alone, nobody care about you, loves you, or pretty much don't want to talk to you.
This is the day, were you go out, anywhere where you can enjoy yourself, a bar, club, gentlemens club, movies, were ever!!! Hell you could even go out for a midnight jog around the park and find somebody!!!
You go out, and do something with yourself. Be happy, I know tonight I will!!!!:):):)
Maybe yall will be to!!!

As it happened with Thanksgiving, you assume the rest of the world celebrates the same things as the USA. ;) Some countries may, but not all of them. Although Valentine's Day is slowly introducing itself here, I can't remember anyone celebrating it in Spain five or ten years ago. Obviously, those who make business out of it are happy we start celebrating it here as well, but I tell you, in Catalonia, lovers' day is the 23th of April, Saint George day. Women give a book and men give a red rose. Lately women want to be given a book as well (some people find it sexist that they receive flowers instead of a book). However even if they want to get a book, they still want the rose. :P
Oh, when April's fool arrives, remember that in Spain(I'm not sure for the rest of the continent) it's celebrated the 28th of December.

You celebrate April fool in December!?
Are you sure someone hasn't been trying to fool you there? ;) :P
I got Fliss a nice box of chocolates and two dvd's - one of which was Red Dwarf II, the other failed to arrive on time. Doh!
She got me a wine tasting day... which is the weirdest present I've ever received although I'm looking forward to picking a date in the summer to go and visit the vinyard to do the tasting. :)

xEik.
You know whether or not the rest of the world celebrates the same Holiday's here in the USA. The point is this is like some specific time of day were people just stop hating each other, and just wind up becoming friends, mates, compaining, (this begining to look the other side :o ) End message.
Infox: I would see myself celebrating Fools day in December. I would see myself celebrating that day everyday.:)

Don't forget that Valentine's Day is also a celebration of friendship!
To all those who have A Special Person: kudos! I hope you have fun, even if you don't participate in this whole Valentine madness. To all those without That Special Person: good luck. Being single is nothing to be ashamed of!
Peace and love,
V.
ps: I wonder. I always sign off with "peace". Some of you must be thinking I'm some pot-blowing hippie. Actually I'm not. Just wanted to make that clear ;).

[thank god ive got sugar]
if you want to discuss Zelda, go ahead and start a new topic in general discussion. theoretically, we can talk about anything in the general forum, though in fact it is better to discuss non-videogame or non-web development issues on forums that specialise in other subjects. politics and religion spring to mind as topics that ought to be somewhere other than wipeoutzone; discussions of them can get angry and vicious very easily. forums generally exist so that people can share a single special interest. more generalised discussions about many topics are better served by chatrooms. even the chats that are supposedly based on single subjects just naturally evolve into discussions about everything. i used to be in a Radiohead chat where we almost never talked about Radiohead. anyway, In My Opinion, forums just work better when they're more focussed on one central subject plus other very closely related subjects. in wipeoutzone's case, of course, we talk about one particular videogame series, but discussions also are about closely related things, mainly other videogames and videogame music both on consoles and computers and the internet. this also links to graphics design and web design. going beyond those subjects seems to diffuse the community spirit that we have on this particular forum because it means going beyond our shared interests.
you can see how this very 'thread' we're writing in now has fallen apart into other directions; this is because it was from the very beginning unrelated to wipeout or videogames or anything closely related to them. so there was no cohesiveness to the subsequent posts, no focus, no definite path along which discussion would develop. so as more posts are added, it turns more and more into the kind of mishmash that you find on those other forums that don't work as well as wipeoutzone. you know, the forums you tend to abandon to come here instead. ; ^ D
had not the system administrator already posted a reply to this thread before i even saw it, i would have been strongly tempted to just delete it because i knew it would go to pieces quickly. having said all that, though, i now say to bear in mind that today i am tired, hungry, perhaps bitchy as a result of that, and that i always have a bit of a perfectionist streak. not only that, but my Mom died on Valentine's day several years ago. every Valentine's Day reminds me of when i watched her die, so i may be prejudiced against the 'subject' of this topic. i'm just telling you these things so that you can better judge the opinions ive stated in this post. nonetheless, i ask you to think about what i said in that first paragraph.

Is it a question on how a person get fired or when they get fired from a job on a holiday?
What I am saying is. How the hell do you get fired on Valentine's Day!!!
Then you get this call fifteen minutes later when my bosses fire you, from this girl I know I didn't sleep with, but spent five minutes of "so call passion" and she calling me her man!!!
Like I'm trying to figure out in my mind, hum? should I kill this girl off, because now after that night, she has become the pain in neck and nervous break down in my brain.
I don't know, but I had what I might call my first Valentine's Day disaster!!!!!
It started out well, I gave out flowers to the sweet girls at my college, I got chocolates from my co-workers, then comes crashing down!!!
Makes no sense!!!

Not a fan of Valentines day as such. Like many people i dont see why so much fuss should be made over one day, especially if your close to your other half for the other 364 days of the year.

Blimey you guys... "i dont believe in it" "i love my partner everyday, why just have 1 day?"
they are ridiculous excuses, you celebrate xmas? and 75% of you are not even religious!!! you would rather celebrate a religious festival than celebrate a day of love???
yes we love our partners 24/7 but its the day of love, at least go for a nice meal...
according to you lot i only love my girlfriend for 1 day, today??
Its not just for couples, its a day to find that special someone!! when you no there will be single people looking for you!!
so if you say, "i dont believe" if i hear you say "happy xmas" or anything like that in the future, it confirms you as a hypocrite...

Xmas? Lol, MegaGeeza - I understand your arguments partially, but there is a great difference between Valentine´s day and Xmas for me:
Christmas has a long-standing religious tradition while Valentine is mindless commercialism in the name of love...
Furthermore, I don´t celebrate christmas in a religious way. Well, I get my gifts and we eat and drink more than usually so it´s more like a harvest festival. ;)
But nevermind, we had a great day too, although we´ve ignored the fact that it´s the Valentine´s day. You can´t pay homage to something as complex as love with a special day or material things, imho.
I also boycott this day for all the singles out there: I deeply hope you´ll find a man/woman you really love! Never surrender!

@DJ Techno - I don't get out of the house much, but I do talk to girls. I mostly just can't be bothered though, to be honest. My position on relationships has changed a lot over the years. I really like girls, but I just like hanging out with them stress free. Anything more is so much hassle. I may well end up on my own with a cat or dog keeping my company in the evenings, and I'm not sure I'd actually mind it too much.

This is way late but I enjoyed my first ever valentine's together with my girlfriend ^_^. She cooked for me =OO it was awesome! I got her a dwarf hamster cause she told me she wanted one :) Then we spent the evening together at my place.
It really has been a crazy week though, my girlfriend has crohn's disease and was in the hospital the night before valentines day. On Wednesday she passed out from her painkillers(percocet) and fell down a flight of stairs and I found her unconscious with school faculty and police around her. Scariest day of my life by far :( she is okay though, and I stayed with her both times till she was released. She really does so much for me and I'm grateful to have her. We have had a good valentine's week(yeah we agreed to make it valentine's week xD) though, hoping she has a speedy recovery.

I know some people get really lonely on Valentine's day, but it's really just a good day to take the mick and have a bit of a laugh. So for anyone who's down in the dumps, here's a stupid poem I wrote on the train home about the thing I love more than anything else in the world...tomato soup.
Feel free to join in and we can all help each other through the loneliness, a.k.a. happy fun times. :)
Tom♥to Soup
I'm not a fan of Valentine's day, been here too many times
No wine, no chocolates, no bouquet, no lovey dovey rhymes
Not a single message comes, on twitter or facebook
Thought a cute girl eyed me up....was just an evil look
But I won't let this stupid day, throw me through a loop
I'll crack on and I'll eat my lunch, a nice big bowl of soup
But oh dear, St. Valentine, you really are a witch
This soup reminds me of my pain, you bastard hairy *****
Just look at it, all shiny red, like the lips I could be kissing
All these thoughts now flood my head, of the love i still am missing
It's smell is sweet and tasty, just like a girl's perfume
The fragrance hanging in the air, like feelings that still loom
Those water droplets round the bowl, like tears that I once cried
From heartbreak upon heartbreak..oh well at least I've tried
And in the end it's not too bad, soup's healthy and it's warm
And when tomorrow swings around things will be back to norm
Who knows, next year it's possible, things might be a lot better
But then this day is still in Feb, so I can count on shitty weather
And if I get **** all next year, I'll think of the good times
Not least this stupid poem I wrote, about a can of Heinz.

I'm not doing anything tonight because of work commitments, but my fiance and I are going out for a meal tomorrow night. We always celebrate Valentine's day, even if it's a week or so either side of Feb 14th.
And for all those people who bang on about the commercialism and how it's the antithesis of real romance, give it a rest. It's a perfect excuse to do something nice with your partner and spoil them a bit. If you spend the other 364 days of the year showering your partner with gifts, serenading them from passing cars and getting their name tattooed on your face, well good luck to you. Most of us don't, so Valentine's day's a gentle poke in the ribs to raise your game for the day ;)

It just adds too much pressure.
I try to live and enjoy every day of life the same and not be guided by some special days created by someone 10 years or 10 millions years before...
