Great, great races with Hellfire_WZ. Except on Modesto Heights, i got literally screwed by the game as Hellfire's ship dragged me on a long portion, after he hit me with Rockets, preventing me from restarting again. So **** you WipEout for this unfair crap. Of course the stupid lag did it, nothing is Hellfire's fault. I did good, he did as well, but there's a very bitter after-taste remaining.

I wish i had showed better sportsmanship to you dude, but as you can understand, it's really pissing me off. Good luck in the next rounds anyway :)

well... i'm starting to be nervous now lol I don't expect to pass to the 2nd round cuz... 1st of all I'm going to race my big mate Olivier aka kanar :D 2nd we will do it drunk lol 3rd I'm not so used to drink like I was before 4th I'm not an extreme fast pilot and 5th... I cutted myself on the left thumb... while i cutting vegetables :( I tried to play last friday and it hurted like hell :S the wound is kind of deep and wide but... After nearly 2 weeks of trying to get this match happening it finally did.
Luna was upset about something in her private life and I was drunk from 2 bottles of red wine and some some French pear Cider, after 2 strong coffees I managed to scrap my way around the chosen tracks with all the dignity I could muster, I only eliminated myself once [Respect!:D]

A unsurprising 7 LUNA 0 Blackwiggle result.

My heart was pounding out of my chest for these :hyper I only managed to win a few through luck - Metropia Rev and Ubermall were both come-from-behind wins thanks to lucky weapon drops, and I kept getting turbos while Ace3cube got none on Amphiseum (and it was still close!). The others were blowout wins for Ace3cube as expected :D

perhaps if players fail to play matches in the further rounds those already eliminated may get a secon chance in some sort of playoff..would be good and allow a top player who got eliminated due to being matched up with another top player a chance of a comeback...

but as im not in charge i wouldnt know...maybe Kanar could answer this question..

There is a waiting list of players wanting to play in the cup. Players who do a no-show are put out of the cup and the first player in the waiting list is matched with the other player.
However, I'm not entirely sure that's fair if you get eliminated to get back into the waiting list. After all it means you can get a lot of shots at winning the prizes and the podium.
If you want players to have a second chance at coming back, then you have to create a double elimination tournament. That's a little complex to make function here strictly online without instant messaging.

@jasmin - I don't think that would be fair myself. If you were going to replace the guy who does a no-show, then you'd have to offer the place to the guy who got beat in the round previous first.

As for DD's point about the waiting list. I don't think it would be fair to use the waiting list beyond the first round, for obvious reasons. Could be wrong, but I don't think kanar had planned to use the waiting list after round 1. But I agree on the other point. It's a knockout comp, so we all get 1 shot - all or nothing. :twisted

i think the waiting list is fair for the first round only.it is not fair if its the semi final and someone who has not played get to join it.
in theory but unlikey a person could win the entire competition with only one match.
it would much fairer to select a player who was eliminated from the round previous as they have played their way through to the stage already.

this is my opinion i may be right or wrong its food for thought as i may be likely there will be a drop out in later rounds.luckily it wont be me as im history as soon as andybob catches up with me :)

I agree about the point with the waiting list, it should not be used after the round of 64.
I don't think that players who are eliminated should be allowed a chance back if someone else is unavailable (You were asked to be available enough to enter this tournament.) Yes, it sucks for the person who is eliminated, but it sucks more for the person who won the first round but is eliminated in the second due to a no-show by his normal competitor.
I am hoping there will be no more dropouts and difficulties myself.
Essentially we have a prize pool of 300$ here, maybe more. Come on people! Get motivated!

i agree that a non show in the second round onwards is a bad thing unfortunatly things happen in real life.

for the player to qualify without a match due to non appearance of their opponent is not very good imo

i think it would be better to get the best eliminated player back in to take the missing players place by way of a playoff

stick all the players eliminated from the previous round into a few rooms and play off to re-enter the missing players place.

yes someone may get a second shot if they are lucky but what about the players like DP89 who got super bad luck and got a matchup from hell in the first round..

yes this sounds more like x-factor than wimbeldon knockout but its fun ..

Just a thought kanar, considering a lot of people are wanting to play again even though they've been knocked out, why don't I (or someone else) start up another thread which is just for friendly Avalon-style matches? Only players knocked out can participate, it still allows us to have fun playing against friends, and it also means if we need replacements from people we can trust we know which ones are the good players. :D

Ok very important info now, got a message from Ichigo, baaaaaad news; YLOD. Obviously you may underestand I can't activate the waiting list there. So we'll have probably to set what we talked about 1 or 2 pages before in this thread :

The death tourney :twisted. So if you fell during this first round, you'll have a little chance to win Ichigo's seat. I'll keep you tuned guys with further infos, but for now you can already register to this death tourney, which will occur right after round 1 (as you probably understood, it's only opened to the round 1 eliminated pilots)

Well I was thinking about that along the road to work this morning, and well we should do that on an invitational basis, and organise "simple" death brigade(s) during next avalon for example. Argh, had to release "unoficially" the info there; Incoming avalon week-end scheduled for sept. 17/18/19. First thing is to know how many people are interested in a second chance. But we're obliged to do that quickly, right after round 1, we can't organise a "cup in the cup" thing, imo. Would be way too much difficult to set up.

Won't a whole, elaborate tourney to decide who plays Hellfire take too long? IMO either DialgX should be re-activated and play Hellfire or Hellfire advances to the next round by default.

Well at Wimbledon Ichigo would be injured & Hellfire would advance to next round; but what about organising one or maybe more death brigades (between eliminated pilots) during avalon next week-end, and qualify the best pilot of this competition? I'm sure Hellfire would like to have to tough round instead of passing through like that.

The problem like mic-dk mentions is that anything we do will cause a delay.
It can be a small delay if for example it's a four-men tournament from the best of the eliminated ones.
It can be a long delay if we choose a 32 men tournament between each of the eliminated.
There will be no delay if we get either the next on the waiting list or if Ichigo concedes victory. Or he manages to find another machine to play on. He still has time until round 2 after all, plus the time to play round 2.

Maybe we worry about this too much, if he sends his PS3 to service now, count a month for the repairs and he'll still be in for round 2. It will be very tight of course but I think there can be an exception. Of course that means that whoever would win between Hellfire and Ichigo should be ready for round 3 immediately after the round 2 match is played.

Well I'll see if Ichigo is def. out or if he's planning a quick repair. You're right Darkdrium, he could finally play his round 2 after all.

But if he can't make it, I think the easiest way to find a fair replacement would be to offer this seat during avalon : we're working on the name, sept. 17/18/19. Depending on the number of eliminated pilots interested in, we could organise a single or more ellaborated tourney... Or just offer the seat to this upcoming avalon mvp (if he's not already qualified lol). We still have time to deal with this issue nicely anyway.

EDIT : Well I was way too much reactive regarding this issue lol, Ichigo will be get himself another ps3 real soon, so everything's ok now, no need _for now_ to think about this possible death brigade something qualifying you for round 2 during next avalon.

I don't think it's really been resolved yet, so just wanted to explain why I really don't like this idea of people re-entering the cup, or entering at later stages. For many reasons:

1. This wasn't in the rules at the start. It's a knockout competition so I think that premise should be maintained.
2. Someone in the 3rd round simply should have been in the 1st and 2nd round.
3. Yes it's a fun competition, but given that there are real tangible prizes, I think it's unfair for some people to potentially have more chances to win them.
4. No matter how 'unlucky' it may seem to get drawn against a good pilot, this tournament is very flexible, and players have the chance to catch even the best player off guard by making careful track and mode choices.
5. People may not like to say it now, but I think if we're all honest, we'd feel a bit hard done by if we earned our place in a certain round against competitor A, and then got beat by competitor B, especially if that competitor was the victor of a different competition, who could in theory in the final of this one had they registered on time.
6. What would be the achievement in winning after being knocked out, and what would be the meaning of it all? People seem to be suggesting that a player might not feel that they progressed fairly if it was without having played someone in a particular round, but that would be exactly the case for the player entering half way through, only in that case it could be without having played 2 or three rounds.
7. It's all getting a bit complicated if we start doing this isn't it? What then happens if the replacement can't make it, etc etc etc? I feel it's good to apply the KISS principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle) for these kinds of things.

So yeah, if, for example, player A loses to player B in round 2, but can't make round 3, then either player B should take his place, or the opponent should progress to round 4 automatically. Personally, I think those are the only two fair options now that the competition has already started. Perhaps even toss a coin to decide which one to do this time around. We can see if the outcome works well and then lessons learned can be applied to the next Avalon Cup.

As for the RD competition - well it could still be good to do it, but if it were to go ahead I would do this:
Host it as a more competition which involves less commitment, both for those who missed out here and/or couldn't commit to this full competition. It could be a one-on-one league that lasts the duration of the Avalon Cup. Then, when the AC final has been played the winner of the RD competition could challenge the AC winner to a kind of exhibition, or champion's match against each other at the end. I would personally love to see that happen.

Anyway, just wanted to share my opinions on it (again). :P

i dont agree with new players entering the cup for all the reasons saturn states.

i dont think it is fair if a player advances to the next round without playing due to a drop out from the cup either.

i think it is a good idea for players eliminated from the round previous to have a shot at re-entry if a slot becomes vacant.
provided they were eliminated from the previoud round ie someone filling a semi finalist spot must have been a quarter finalist elimination not a first round elimination.

this also balances up for really bad luck of a lousy match ups too and as anyone can be eliminated the option is open to all to re-enter the cup provided of course there is a drop out and i hope there is not.

obviously the best players in the cup have the edge as they are more likely to re-enter but then who wants a rubbish champion who got lucky and never earned there prize.

thats my oppinion and not a dictation and i also respect others oppinions too. im sure kanar will make the best desision for maximum fun games for all.:nod

So if **** happens, I thought the best idea would be to qualify the best eliminated pilot of the previous round, determined by challenger's RD competition. So we could say the qualified pilot will come back from hell 8). Anyway, everything's ok so far, Ichigo will have a new ps3 soon so no worries.

I accidentally did one trying to land again after hitting a ramp-wall on Sol 2 and going ballistic. That resulted in me jetting off in the direction of a strip club in downtown Vineta. Damn collision mesh respawned me back on track half a lap down before I got there, though. ;)

I quite enjoyed the racing, even if I was no competition at all.

I'm really struggling to arrange my match with falcopele at the moment. I sent him a third message yesterday asking when he can play and he replied "tomorrow" I then asked what time and he replied "one moment". I'm still waiting for his reply now. How hard can it be FFS! I'm not going to get in touch again as I can't be arsed with him. What's the point in entering this comp if you can't be bothered to answer the messages from your opponent.

More generally, I don't want to look dramatic but in some ways, we're all having December's cup destiny in our hands now. I mean this cup clearly became a showcase (14,705 views so far) for the next one. I'm assuming the fact we're all really busy atm, in our real life. You guys are probably like me, struggling to find some gaming time in order to play a decent round, near the week 3 deadline ;).

But please, if you think you couldn't make it, don't hesitate to report it to me. We can't mess up with this cup, it's way too much important for the sake of the next one. So guys, prepare your cam & your tracklists, and burn these AG tracks ASAP mmmkey? ;)

It was a scary little tourne for me, to be honest, after racing with Triboy recently, I thought I was gonna get shafted.. Hence the Blonde wig an tit-ties :P
I manage to steal the first race and thought my luck was in, but then Tri stole the show in the next 2 races.. eeek, i was brickin it.
I managed to regain my composure, and claw my way back, but it was very close..

It was my first time racing with him... ouch !
I made progress on phantom so I though there would be a little chance for me to win... but indeed it was a true massacre!
Luxo was soo fast on moa and metropia! On sol2 I though a might able to keep my first place...but :naughty. On my tracks he was also very fast and consistent + and made horribles mistakes (because my eyes were crying...)

So big thanks ang congrat to Luxo for those races . I wish him all the best for the next round !!

Argh sadly I didn't record our meeting, well I had some words with the wife and so on (yeah I'm way too much here & in world of wipeout these past few weeks...) So it was a quiet, stressing one, but it was also a fantastic meeting. I managed to get my 3 points from my phantom picks, but I knew Shapealot could easily tie the score on his rapier playground. I can say I was really lucky on race 5, after I respawned first turn on shengou reverse (yeah, fkin shortcut), was 3/4 secs late but didn't give up, hoping for a mistake... And then Shapealot respawned last lap. Took me a while to realize I passed him; then I managed to stay in front... Then we did the race 6 anyway, and my mate easily crushed me on uber reverse. Big congrats Shapealot, as I said some times ago, I'm a phantom pilot, but that definitely not means I'm super fast in lower classes. you were definitely above me on all the 3 rapier races. By far. Superb meeting mate, see you soon on the tracks, and this December for the monster cup!

woohoo! we have another MIA pilot, awesome. Carlos69nash :rock. Seems like the upper right of his TV is broken (same problem as djkyoto & bloody_harry ;)). So he'll probably be our 3rd MIA pilot of this round! It sounds like a warning for December's cup. So we'll try to know a little bit the pilots who signed in, during the registration process, before that kind of stuff happens again. Hopefully TOP 16 will be one of the best on earth, and this is good news.

Quick note about Hellfire_wz / ichigo17 & GS / Fyue3 => Situation is completely different here, as ichigo & Fyue3 had a huge wipeout meeting in real life, last week-end. So guys, feel free to take a small delay if you def. can't make it.

So after carlos's brother stopped hogging the PS3 for his COD addiction, and after kanar and I had also harassed his bro with a load of PSN messages, we finally got to race. I have to say, despite the score line, I think chenghou rev was the only one where I had any significant margin. On all the other there was only a couple of seconds in it, so any slip up and I could have been screwed in any one of the races. I told carlos that it would be even closer next time if he could chuck his bro off the PS3 so he can get more HD time in, so maybe we'll meet again in the HD cup, or any other time, and that prophecy might come true.

KGB is next up. Watch out Kevin, your Bacon is mine. :p

To be honest, I made a mistake when I put these ZB limitations, there won't be any in December's monster cup. It destabilized the both pilots here, during this clash of the titans. But I think it's finally a fair result. Big congrats to both of you for playing!

Sorry to hear that DD. I had some with that site last night. I kept entering the code and getting nowhere, and it was my own account. It was really weird, but it was actually asking me for my account password, but addressing me as if I was a guest wanting to view with the wipeoutzone code - real odd. Maybe next time I'll try something a bit better. There are alternate sites to give a go, and probably better settings I could use too.

Anyway the Goteki 45 plan didn't work particularly well, the stupid thing stalled a couple of times on the start line :paperbag. I'm amazed I survived on CP, I tried to correct myself off the ramp and the bloody thing tried to BR on me putting my shield on critical for the last 4 laps. Glad I won one though, I'll have to see how much crap I dropped on Saturn on Talons rev, I just couldn't help myself, he just wouldn't leave me alone :P.

Well done again mate :+, It would be cool to watch your next race, with no pressure to deal with, I'll enjoy it a lot more :g

Ubermall had me on the edge of my seat. Epic race was epic.

Talon's... Saturn, you got lucky with the turbos. XD

Chenghou, especially the early laps, was a final word in ship control. Fantastic stuff.

Talon's Reverse... music was excellent. Really heart-pumping.

Vineta K was more great racing. Makes my win there in my own thread look paltry by comparison.

Amphiseum was a good race as well. ;3 Just not as good as the others.

Sol 2 was another fine race, but I won't say anything particularly good because Phantom might think I like the track. XD

Congratulations Saturn - may the Moderator Of Doom go far. And nice to see the rivals against each other - Goteki vs Icaras. ;3
