WipEout Viral Advertisement - FEISAR
Hey guys! First off, it's my first post so don't be too hard on me :D
(The reason this is in the WipEout Future section is that it's created as a fictional advertisement for a future WipEout title)
Just wanted to show you my work. It's a project I've recently completed for University. I study motion design & visual effects and have just completed my third and final year of the course. I've always loved the attention to detail that the creators put into the racing franchise, from the distant fire brigade ships to the advertisements seen everywhere, and I wanted to be a part of creating realism for the racing title.
In a nutshell, this is what it is:
The 2min 30sec film I've created is shot and created to look like a feed from a security camera, monitoring the 24 hours of a race day in the Feisar pit garage. You'll see pit crew talking, working and rushing around the garage, and testing vital parts of the craft. Towards the end the new Fury craft arrives, giving a hint of what's to come for the team.
I've photo-manipulated an ambulance station and added every single element you can see to create this futuristic garage. The craft was taken from a screenshot of the game. All the crew had feisar t-shirts designed and printed by myself to suite the feel of the game.
..and here is the full film! Hope you guys like it:

A lot of hard work went into filming and creating this. I've created it as I'm a big fan of the franchise, and wanted to give a little thank you back to the creators.
Here's some small thumbnails to show the uniforms, and also what the garage originally looked like:

Let me know what you think! :)

P.S. Worth a look: My girlfriend (who was originally planned to be the pilot) has done some amazing concept work for WipEout on her blog, I'd seriously check it out!

Feisar is incredible :clap

I'll withhold any criticism as I guess it's already a completed project.:P
Overall it's really cool to see real folk interacting with a ship like that.:+ I thought it looked a bit dangerous when they started up the ship, and then the guy's arse got set on fire, haha.:lol

To be honest I'd rather you give any feedback, negative or positive! Always helps with future work :)
..and thank you!

The one thing I would say is I wish the ship moved / hovered horizontally slightly - it would have given a better effect of it floating :D Also a couple of different camera angles would have been nice :+

30th May 2010, 01:41 PM
Well it kind of hovers upwards and wabbles slightly when the engines are tested.. I couldn't get my hands on a 3D model sadly, otherwise more movement would have been included :(
I agree the camera angles would have been nice, but it took so much work manipulating that one angle that I had no time before the deadline of the project. Who knows, I might add more!

Sweet - I look forward to seeing more
You need to get the pilot jumping in and taking off - that would rock :D :+

True, I'll add more scenes soon! There were plans of climbing in and out of the craft but it didn't get done due to little time :(
By the way, if you're interested.. my girlfriend (who was originally planned to be the pilot) has done some amazing concept work for WipEout on her blog, I'd seriously check it out!

How long exactly did it take to produce?
Great work - Love the AG-SYS pic :D

The only thing I don't like about it isn't really anything graphical, so not really that applicable anyway, but it's the way all the crew are just hanging around in T-shirts. I guess the budget probably wouldn't have allowed fireproof F1 pitcrew style overalls, but it just looks a bit odd with them all in Tees. Next time maybe try and convince some fashion students that their careers will really take off if they help you out. ;)
Other than maybe it could use some more equipment and stuff around the place. It's a bit spartan in there.

Way to go, nice first post!! :clap The ad is very cool, I was half-expecting to see a wuss wagon zoom in and run off with the flaming-arse-man.
I thought your girlfriend's pilot pictures were awesome!! I liked the AG-SYS one better, because the pose of the FEISAR pilot reminded me awfully of one of the losing pics of John Dekka in WO1...if I recall correctly that's which one...and also because of "FEISAR's preoccupation with speed". I think I missed a lot here-FEISAR and speed?

30th May 2010, 02:45 PM
Doesn't necessarily mean straight line speed ;)
But thanks for the comments. True that would have been a lot better with fire suits. I'm a big fan of Formula 1 myself, but the budget would have been a bit too much. Printed T-Shirts are all I had enough for to be honest.

Awesome! :D
I agree in adding more perspectives and more stuff laying around, but then on the other hand I'm seriously aware of how much time one has to spend into animations and illustrations like this one.
So: Very well done! Hats off! :)
PS: If it's possible to change the angle of view within WOHD's photo mode just very slightly, you could bringt a bit motion to the craft. No need of a 3D model then. That could be impossible, though, if you can't do very small steps with the analog sticks of the DualShock3.

didn't play on my computer very well but what I saw was very impressive, loved the effects!
It's a shame HD never had a single TV advert it might have helped it sell more...

Audio84, i humbly and sincerely salute the fascinating piece of art you just did here. That's what it is, i'm not exagerating. I agree with Saturn though, pitcrew should have full-suits with team colors. If i would have been there during the making of this, i would have funded some silkscreen printing for these! :) And maybe there should be an European Union flag pinned on the wall, in the background :P
The ignition of thrusters was absolutely amazing! :D:+ The quick glimpse at the Fury version was such brilliant, and you can imagine clearly the backstory happening, even without any audible dialogs. Just ****ing awesome mate.
You know, i dream and dream and dream everyday of a WipEout CGI movie, i make myself many scenarios in my head of AG-Lock rackings lifting up the ship to the starting grid, where many others are already there. I hear the race announcer through the speakers; "Ladies and Gentlemen, start your Anti-Gravity cells!!!" and see a subtle perturbation through the air as the AG units activate in a deep bass humming. People are cheering at the pilots taking place into their ships. Kaori appears on the ranking board for the countdown, and on GO!, thrusters explodes into an astounding roar graduating to a hi-pitched, slick buzz like Feisar does and into a pulsating throb like Triakis.
Right now i've just witnessed a slight foretaste of what could become a reality someday! It's with those kinda things that everything starts on! I wanna see MOAR and wish you the best of success in further WipEout short flicks! :clap

WOW, I saw this a while back and wanted to say a few words but wasnt able to (since i was suspended) but now I'm back, and i'll say this - :+ you did real good, I can't begin to tell you how many times i've seen that video, and showed to friends also. At first they thought someone had actually made an AG-ship :lol wrong decade. But ya know what? It all has to start somehwere man. First a game, now a fan video... next a movie? Hopefully, a live demonstration of an AG ship witrhin our own lifetimes??? Now, that would be something eh?
Weel done Audio84 :)

Just for a little fun, I've created this video in the meantime with some extra footage I had from the camera. It's most likely what happens when the pilot gets a little 'bored' :D

Unfortunately I couldn't watch the video because neither my iPod, phone, or PS3's Internet browser are supported with Vimeo, and my computers broken at the moment :(.
But I did take a look at your girlfriends art blog, and I have to ask, where the hell did you find this girl? She's awesome. Videogames and Drum & Bass. Wow.

Preeetty cool. I used to know someone else who did all this compositing and editing work, turned a subway into a prison by filling in the gaps between the columns with bars. Took hours but looked just as good.

OH MY GOD. That video was totally cool! :clapI especially love how the mechanics watch the race on the T.V. in the background. Like others said, some uniforms would be cool, and maybe the mechanics could be working on more than one side of the ship.

Thank you guys! :D
T-Shirts were made for the uniforms because it was the cheapest thing to do at the time, and the quickest thing to do.
Here's some small thumbnails to show the uniforms, and also what the garage originally looked like:

This video was awesome. Words alone cannot express how wonderful it was watching this short movie. I really do hope you can find time to make more in the future, but if not, this was more than enough already. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you!
On a side note, I really want one of those shirts! But copyright and all that stuff so I guess you can't sell them =(
I subscribed to you on youtube btw. You have some great work. Can't wait to see more.
Good luck!
