Is there? I went to www.wipeouthd.com in hopes that there would be a traditional manual teaching you about the various game modes and how to play them, and can't find one.

It's very frustrating to be thrown into new modes such as Zone Battle and Eliminator and not even know what the buttons do. The menu, too; fortunately I've played previous Wipeouts and am familiar with the weapon icons, but the in-game explanations for those aren't enough. Also, there's a number expressed as a percentage at the bottom right of the screen; usually it's 100% if I've got the accelerator held down, but yesterday it hovered around 70% unless I took my finger off the accelerator and pressed it again. Was that a glitch? It would help to know what this number measures.

The online FAQs made by players seem to presuppose that readers know how to play the different game modes -- for example, Vartazian has produced what looks like a great strategy guide for Zone Battle, but if you don't know what the buttons do, what the Boost and Barrier numbers mean, etc., Zone Battle is frustrating.

This is the first game I've ever downloaded digitally, so I have no idea what such games normally do for manuals.

Someone tell me if there is one so that I can print it out and learn how to play!

Just read, formatted (down to 12 double-sided pages), and printed Hellfire's FAQ -- wow! What an opus! This is exactly what I wanted -- the manual that should have been in the game. The objectives of the new modes are clear, and the all-important What Button Does What is also clear.

Thanks, Hellfire! :+

Does the Blu-Ray manual have any backstory, like the other ones?

Within the first post of the ZONE / Zone Battle (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6501) thread there is an explanation
on how the whole thing works and how you can improve yourself to get better
at this mode. :+

Nope, no fiction to speak of. Black and white manual covering the basics.

Damon Fairclough, who wrote the story for the first three WipEouts, and Robert Foxx, who wrote the story, beginning with Fusion, until he left SL [?around the end of Pure, beginning of Pulse?], have not been replaced in that function. Too bad; the game would be better with a bit more life and continuity in it.
