View Full Version : What pisses you off most in Eliminator mode?

Personally, it's when Harimau is always shielding. It gives me a good excuse to rip it's head off when it stops, though -_-
NO-ONE SHIELDS AROUND CJ AND LIVES TO TELL THE TALE!

Vista-pads really pisses me off. On some occasions I pass over 3-4 pads before even getting a pickup. That's a real game-breaker for me and I avoid playing eliminator because of it. SL needs to fix this problem asap!

It does stress me out when i go over three weapon pads and dont get a single pick up but i love eliminator best on flash and rapier cos your not all bunched up like venom i think a quake is over rated in eliminator it doesnt seem to do that much damage but get behind someone with rockets and its instant doom for that sorry soul :nod

Getting six quakes throughout the event and not getting a single elimination with any of them.
Six quakes... never even seen that many in one event, and I've done a couple of 600 point events vs. the AI... I guess my pet peeve is the flip-side of this: getting thrown left and right from dozens of quakes and not getting a single one myself.

Online vista pads. you get hammered with rockets and missile etc and cant return the favour, this has cost me the win on many an occasion .
CJS
4th August 2009, 04:08 PM
Yeah... in Pure and Pulse quake was, like, a lethal weapon and now it only kills as much energy as a barrel roll drains (15%). Plasma is 4 times more powerful.
Building on my anti-Harimau campaign thing, I got Elimin18 on Harimaus alone :dizzy

Practically killing one person then waiting for the next power up to finish and WHAM!!! reverse quake taking dim down and crippling me at the same time.
or alternatively shield for a lap and then attack while everyones weak from the mayhem....:nod

'Pissing me off' is a bit harsh, but the most obvious issue for me is the framerate. It quite clearly does not stick to the claimed 60fps. It's a damn sight better than Eliminator in Wipeout Pulse, but it could be better...

It is my fault really but I continue to press circle in hopes that i trade it in for life only to have to yell "doh!" when I realize I get a shield for about 2 seconds.
CJS
5th August 2009, 05:31 PM
Agree on repulsor & shuriken, but they shouldn't let the AI use repulsor- or else I'd be blowing up every 3 seconds. I don't like getting hit by a quake that goes forward and backward and is as strong as a plasma. SCEEL could add the to Wipeout HD err... Ponies- IMEAN, Acid, I mean the next DLC...
Edit: Sorry Tez. Mirage sucks, too, and their Fury ship looks like a VW beetle from the back (no rly, it does) :nod

Well I really like Eliminator I find it amazingly well done... I have no complains, and if you play Online it's better, the only thing that I hate is when your luck is doomed and you get the worst weapons.
I also love the feeling of desperation when you hear "PLASMA BALL" or "QUAKE" and then you hear the Plasma Ball coming behind you xD arg I love that.
SonicChaos
5th August 2009, 08:23 PM
I hate it when you get hit by a quake and then some rockets and a missle to blow you up from practically full sheilds. I have had that happen waaay to many times.

When I hit the reverse button and fired off my rockets. Two rockets hit two different ships head on, eliminating them both, and I won the round.
Oh wait, that was great.
Sven
5th August 2009, 10:05 PM
Heh, I've done that. Forget missle locks for 30 seconds, that stupid trophy should have been getting two eliminations with one rocket pickup, heh.
But what I hate is when people are sitting still on the track and you can't see them until they clobber you with rockets. I think there should be indicators to highlight where enemy ships are, like in the reverse view.
SonicChaos
5th August 2009, 10:41 PM
Actually I like not being able to see them. Setting up ambushes are fun, besides there's the indicator at the bottom that tells you when you're close to someone and if they're facing backwards.

The elimination.

5th August 2009, 11:45 PM
When I lurked under the crest of the hill, turned and fired a plasma over it when the enemy ships came near, making a sneaky elimination... that was awesome. What I don't like is when people shield as soon as i drain them. I mean, I understand why, it's just annoying - especially offline, where I'm sure the AI cheat, always having a shield in skilled/elite, even if they have recently fired a weapon and havent been near a pad....
Generally, I love the Eliminator mode though. It's really awesome. Ive played it about 5 times online (only got Fury 2 days ago, I was on hols) and won 2 of those. I routinely get 'Most Aggressive' in races though, so I suppose it's no suprise that I enjoy it...

...I'm sure the AI cheat, always having a shield in skilled/elite, even if they have recently fired a weapon and havent been near a pad....
I noticed that too, and came up with the conclusion that the AI gets powerups at certain intervals in eliminator regardless whether they passed over a weapon pad or not. This is even more aggravating in Zone Battle, where AI ships get an increase in his zone bar regardless whether they passed over a zone pad or not. I'm not sure if this is true for novice or skilled, since I only played the campaign events in elite mode.
SonicChaos
6th August 2009, 12:12 AM
I think it still applies, but it doesn't fill up nearly as fast and they rarely use it.
Sven
6th August 2009, 03:19 AM
I also hate when you hear a weapon warning, burn a pickup for a shield, but the shield runs out just before the weapon actually hits you. Or when you activate the shield .2 seconds too late.
Motorsagmannen
6th August 2009, 04:41 AM
lol this seem to always happen to me in races in stead of eliminator.
if i run over a weaponpad when a quake hits me you can bet your ass i get a shield lol.
i like eliminator it put me back to a positive K/D :beer.
but things i hate in it is beeing wtfbbq-raped on the second turn against elite AI. never had problems doing them eventually but sometimes they are just not fair lol. l

Another one of my pet hates is when I act stupid: press L1, drop my mines, turn around again and fly straight into them. Guess I'm used to just flying straight through them in Pure...

Hey, buddy. :) I actually disagree about it solely being a matter of luck. Sure, there's luck involved, but that can be said about every other online mode too. There's skill and strategy involved, as well though, for sure. All I know is I had been dominating eliminator mode offline...found it so easy. So, I decided to try online to see if my skills would carry over at all. Did three, full-room, eliminator events. The result? Third place, first place then first place again. Guess I'm just lucky. ;)
DeepMix
6th August 2009, 07:35 PM
but im just talking about eliminator, u dont need that much skills like if u were playing races or zone battles, in here u just need weapons, u dont need to do barrel rolls neither shortcuts and worring about finishing a lap :) but that is just my opinion
Motorsagmannen
6th August 2009, 10:54 PM
only skill you actually need is a good aim, and a good tactical overview. as you said the rest is luck. but the good eliminator players seem to get top positions most of the times, so some skill is definetely required although not necessarily the same you use in a race.
Sven
6th August 2009, 11:45 PM
Another thing: starting in the back. Seems like people in the back get kinda screwed in both Eliminator and Zone Battle
Re: Luck: I think Eliminator is like Poker...definately some luck, but a lot of skill.

I've always loved Eliminator mode until this evening. Regardless of whether I win or lose, it always puts a big grin on my face, because I just love the absolute mayhem of it all, but tonight it just p*ssed me off totally because only one of out every three weapons pads worked. They 'bleeped' when I flew over, but no weapon was given, so I was being shot to hell time after time. I knew it was time to switch off when I knocked my beer over!
SL, you owe me a guinness! :lol

I hate the quakes. They are really unbalanced. Especially because I often get mines or BOMBS!! I hate when I just start and in 3 seconds I explode w/o even the time to reach the first red pad. And I obviously hate when in some games I hit the red pads w/o getting any weapon. :brickwall
But I still love it!!! It's great fun!!

what frustrates me a lot is when some people start to hide in the track, I'm not sure they understood right the concept of eliminator, in offline play the IA is a bit too foreseeable

A lot of eliminators too...i normally just want to race!

That's because most players online aren't hardcore enough to handle it. I myself play Flash a lot and am coming around to Rapier and Venom is too slow. I just don't have the skill set right now to play Phantom.

That its all online consists off. I love it think its absolutely insane on phantom, win or lose. but i'm a racer who thrives off a 1st place victory. Even when i filter the game modes theres very few races which are mainly venom or flash, not that i mind them. I just dont see the point of racing 9 lap flash races or 20 lap venom, i've even seen 3 lap flash wtf.

Not a lot upsets me in this mode TBH. It's like online Halo, you can get completely handled one second and be right back in competition the next. And that it doesn't require any particular skill. Shoot stuff. "Aim Quake" ;)

17th August 2009, 04:41 PM
It's to stop exactly that, other wise what fun would that be?
Well if you're absorbing weapons you certainly can't score so I can't see where there would be any advantage in continually absorbing however there's times when more than one shield would be advantageous. I would assume it's your choice whether to use one or not. If it's not "fun" then they shouldn't be used at all.
PoliPino
17th August 2009, 07:00 PM
The only thing that annoys me are the blank pickups. A couple times this weekend, I would fly over 3 or 4 pads in a row, get the bing, but no weapon. It kind of ruins a match that depends on weapons, especially when the second after I get the blank pad, I see the quake coming at me or the unavoidable mines, but I can't shield because I have no weapon :bomb
Other than that, I love eliminator. The sheer mayhem is absolutely beautiful. I dare say it's even more destructive fun than Twisted Metal.
SonicChaos
17th August 2009, 08:22 PM
@craw Well you most certainly won't win by sheilding all the time it also prevents other players from scoring points on you. I guess they just didn't want people absorbing and scoring points on Perfect laps.

Respawning and going critical before I can even move is really annoying and happens occationally .
Not being able to pick up any weapon pads for like, an entire lap because everyone keeps stealing them is also really irritating.
The only other thing I hate is that a lot of people play on the Fury tracks and I haven't been on any of them really apart from Syncopia and Mallavol so I end up crashing a lot, but that's my own fault for not doing the Fury campaign yet :p.

Am I the only one who hates offline Eliminator events? It's the only kind of event I have issues with in the Fury campaign, and while I see that some skill is required (which I must not have), it does seem to be a lot about luck. You'd better hope like hell the AI is going easy on you. Annoys me real bad >_<
