View Full Version : Suggestions for upcoming patches

I'm simply loving the new changes\fixes that the 2.00 patch brought to Wipeout HD. These kind of patches shows that the developers at Studio Liverpool really care about their customers\fanbase and I applaud them for that. I've been wanting to make a little wish-list for some time now over things I want to see in the game and I know that I have gone a little over my head on some of the suggestions, but to the contraty I think some of the stuff is fully possible. I might update the list as new ideas comes, and any other input/comments would also be nice. So here goes;

Spectator Mode - Needs alot of fixing/tweaks. Ship interpolation stutters alot and does by no means show what is really going on during the race. It lacks all the details like barrel rolls, proper tilting of the ships when they turn etc.

Ship Selection in Online lobby - One of the things that bothers me the most about joining an online race is when I join a single race and as soon as the host is happy with the number of players he instantly starts the race (with 4-5 second countdown). In most cases I prefer to change ships according to track. Some tracks require a ship with good handling (Ubermall, Sebenco Climb and Chenghou Project) while others require ships with high speed (Vineta K, Anulpha Pass, Metropia, Moa Therma, Sol2). Also if the race is full with 8 players I prefer to use a ship that has more shield to keep me from being eliminated more often. So my suggestion would be to always have the start timer set to 10-15 seconds, and let players still be able to change their ship in the meanwhile.

Custom Playlists - Please add the ability to change the menu music, it gets very tiresome listening to the same song over and over again. Either add more menu music, or let us choose a playlist\song. Also having the ability to change custom playlist during an online race would be nice. At the moment I have to quit the online race and go all the way into the Options\Audio menu to be able to change my playlist. A simple "Custom Playlist" when pressing the Start-button would be very welcomed. Also, after Fury was released I miss an option to have split playlists for Fury and HD.

Scoreboard Stats - I'd really like to see some more stats about player performance on the scoreboards such as how many Perfect Laps, Eliminations, Turbo's and Barell Rolls a player pulled off during a race.

2 player split screen - Need optimization. 2 player split screen races are way too laggy, especially during eliminator races. This is the only thing that is keeping me from playing vs my buddies when they come over to my crib. I think some of the gfx can be sacrificed during 2 player split screen races so that we atleast can enjoy playing with the same smoothness as a 1 player race.
I know this probably is an issue that is hard to fix, but I hope SL considers tweaking it somehow for better fps.

Lobby Chat - This has been suggested a couple of times before but I guess as soon as Chat Room was added to PS3 people didn't need In-Game Chat any longer. Still, it definately does have some advantages; you won't have to Open your XMB, create a Chat Room, then add players to your friends list so you can invite them to join the room. Second, Lobby Chat allows you to communicate faster than having to open your XMB.

Improved Voice Chat - There is no doubt that Voice Chat is in a terrible state. The problem could solely be related to poor support from Sony's side, but I know some games have implemented their own solutions to allow Voice Chatting. Teamspeak 3 sounds like a good alternative; http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=teamspeak3sdk
I have no idea how the technical aspect of adding such a feature to a PS3 title works, and if it is even possible. But if it was, the benefits would definately be great; no more text chatting :)

Menu Skins - Not a biggie but adding some more skins/themes to the menu gui like Wipeout Pure had would be super sweet. The Wipeout HD Campaign Mode has skinned menus for every grid.

Ghost Replays - Having the ability to spectate ghost replays from the ghost's perspective would be simply awesome. That way people can download other players ghosts to see their tactics and racing lines.
Even better would be to have replays of online races, though this is probably something we'll never see as it must be a real pain to add such a feature :)

Ship Trails - Someone mentioned that some ships in the race demonstration (if you idle in the main-menu) had red trails. My initial thought would be to add more colors to the trails, maybe something that goes along with the livery skin you've choosen :)

Day\Night Cyclus - jasmin-jade suggested this. Every Wipeout track should have a day and night cyclus, it would be absolutely beautiful ;)

[...]
Day\Night Cyclus
I think you did it again. ;)

Ghost replays! I would love to have that!!
And if it were to be implemented, I guess you could then select your favorite camera view.
I like watching videos of some of the top players here, but it's almost all the time in 3rd person view and it would be really nice to be able to learn from them in internal view. Great idea, I love it!

Just a minor thought that I had last night as I did a racebox tourney of the reverse tracks; how about a small list of preset tournaments? For instance:

all 8 original tracks forward
all 8 original tracks reverse
first 4 original tracks forward then reverse
etc

Not a big deal since it's so much faster and easier to set up your tournament since the patch, but for set events (racing leagues) or your own personal practice setup it could be a nice thing to have.

At least I've seen several times the countdown blocked at 0 second, until all the players have a team selected.

Your ghost proposition (Theater mode) would be great !!

Each team should have their own trail color n_n (doesn't it depend on their respective engine ?)

Custom Playlists - If you could select a custom compilation but keep playing the original game music. That would be great. It is kind of sad to have to purchase the game music if you want to include them in your custom compilation.

Ranks - Please, included a real ranking system, depending on achievements (winning/losing against strong/weak opponents) like Street Figter 4 or PES for example. Not the current one only based on played time.

Badges - Can you display along the pilot name, the badge he has the most ? It could help to see before hand if the opponent is an aggressive/defensive type.

Online Game List Filters - It would be great if we can choose multiple options for each filters. For example, If I'm looking for game with :
- Event Type : Single Race or Tournament
- Speed Class : either Rapier or Phantom
etc...

In-Game Chat - Let the possibility to mute (permanently) people. Some people are very annoying.

http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135434&postcount=14 - According to this guy you gain higher rank by beating players of higher rank than yourself. So unless he's wrong Wipeout has the same system as SF4 :) Any official input on this? Paul? Colin?

This could be useful if it was done the right way. Before Fury came out, I found that I mostly got the 3 same badges in most of my races, either Speed Pad Hunter, Fastest Top Speed or Fastest Lap. This doesn't necessarily mean that I'm a fast racer. It's all about finding the perfect racing line so that you hit the most speed pads as well as getting as many pickups as you can. And the Fastest Top Speed is easily achieved by timing the use of your turbo together with either a barrel roll and\or a speed pad. So I wouldn't say that the badge system gives a very clear indication as to what kind of racer you are up against since 2-3 of the badges usually comes before the other. I'm curious as to which badge is decided upon if you meet the requirement for more than one badge. Is there some kind of priority system involved?

I thought that if SL added Eliminator mode they would also add Repulsor and Shuriken weapons (which are cool), but they did not. Hope SL will add these weapons sometimes.

Just one little little thing that came to my mind: Make the color of the thrust customizable. Maybe a palette of 10 colors of even a whole color spectrum you could choose from by moving a curser (if that is technically possible of course; a predefined palette would probably make things easier than a whole spectrum).
I think that may be a nice, subtle way to bring some personality to the ships while racing online :)

So unless he's wrong Wipeout has the same system as SF4 :) Any official input on this? Paul? Colin? Not exactly. I'm not sure, but it is possible that you can earn more points by wining a race with high ranked players. But in the end, you never loose points by loosing races or being destroyed (normally, the weaker than you the opponents are the more points you should loose).
So it is not like SF4 or PES. WipEout HD high ranked players are often not skilled players who only played a lot.
It could ring like I'm elitist, but what is the use of a rank if it doesn't reflect the skills of a player and only his amount of free time ?

As for the rank, what's the use of the badges (apart from collecting them) if you are the only one to check on them (redundant with stats).

Showing the badge you have the most isn't the perfect solution, i agree (and it should only be shown if you have more than 5 badges otherwise it is irrelevant) , but it is better than nothing.

You can resize your HUD - if you play the HD game in campaign - you can unlock alternate HUDs after getting a certain amount of points with any given team. (so pick your favorite ship and use it to no end) Zone mode and Detonator are a VERY fast way to level up ship / team points.

The alternative huds are from Wipeout XL / 2097 (which is what I use to no end), and Wipeout 3.

The XL/2097 HUD is very minimalist - yet still easily read - which is why I favor it.

To answer Jasmin - I love using the "old beat down" skins - because it's more salt into the wound when I win against Fury ships with my POS Auricom. :p

Yeah, customizable ion trails like in Quake where you can customize your railgun! :D
That would be sweet :)

Also, the ability to delete your own times from your save file and sync with the server.

Lastly, replay mode with the same options as the replay mode in GRID/Dirt (Play, Pause, rewind, slow motion; download the demos on PS3 to check it out) and the ability to take photos while in this replay.

I would put the blame on XMB and not on SL for poor chatting experience.

I see a major drawback in online chat through the game itself. However lame XBM might be (I mean lame like slow and bumpy - it's otherwise functional) it's distinct from the interaction between your console and the game's servers, meaning that when the game freezes you don't loose contact with your friends.

That's why it's great not to have to be in an in-game lobby so as to chat with other players.

I think voice chat is annoying, when you are a stranger among friends, or when some rude boy comes and starts calling you names...

I think it would be useless to implement a chat, and inconsistent comming from a first-party developper. They wouldn't diss the work of those working on ready made solutions to ease their workload and give players a consitent experience online.

Please make it so that PS3slim is force-fed some extra RAM, if just for XMB's sake! XMB is so slow!

get rid of enhanced ships as they make the old skins obselete. who wants to race in a clapped out old crap racer when you can use the enhanced version

At first I would have entirely agreed with you about this, and I complained about it myself a bit. But I was thinking about it and I came up with one reason why the new, better ships are there. They're part of a while package. If they just introduced new skins then I wouldn't bother about even trying the new ships, because I could see what they looked liked and that would be it. Now we have a whole new set of ships to get used to and learn about, and maybe people's favourite team will change. The main reason I think they shouldn't have had new stats in the first place is based on what are now slightly confused record tables. I care about those, but the majority of people who buy the game won't. They have marked Fury ships in the tables, so that's something good at least.

As for the second part, Oldteki-85 pwns you :P. Just kidding, but I was racing in it last night against a room full of Fury ships, and to be honest, it didn't make a huge amount of difference in online races. I would even go so far as to say I was getting better results than I usually do online. Add to that how oogly boogly the new ships' behinds are, and there is enough reason to stick with your old favourite :)

Sausehuhn
25th July 2009, 06:21 PM
I see your point, SaturnReturn, but they also could have changed stats by changing points rather than adding them.
Or they could have even introduced new (old) teams to the list with alternative stats (though that would have meant new logos, stories etc, thus more work).

In the end, was there a reason to make those ships more powerful then the old ones?

Handmadelion
25th July 2009, 06:55 PM
I'm not sure how SL would incorporate this, but before Fury came out, I could see demo races of random ships, fury and HD. But whenever I start a race. It's either all AI all classic like my ship, or all Fury, or all zone battle ships. I'm not suggesting Zone battle ships be randomly put into races. But I would love to see HD ships and Fury ships randomly selected for the AI. The exhaust tails are all so indifferent. We need some variety in there.

SaturnReturn
25th July 2009, 09:16 PM
There are other ways they could have done it Sausehuhn. I almost made the comment myself that they could have added the missing ships from the series. But I deleted it because I thought that would have only been a couple of new ones, right? It would be really cool for people who liked those ships because they'd get their favourites, but maybe they'll still come. In the mean time there are a lot more ships now than that option would have brought. Perhaps though, they could have created brand new teams with different stat balances in, but you're right, that would have been a lot more work, possibly, and I don't think they could create a whole 12 more ships without repeating stats unless some stats were bumped up.

I wouldn't see the point in arbitrarily changing ship stats either. There's only a certain amount you could change them and the end result would probably just be a equivalent to a change of ship skin. Ultimately I think that method would have been even more pointless.

If the record tables were completely separated in terms of Fury ships and HD original ships, then there'd be zero wrong with introducing the new ones. As it goes, there's not a huge amount wrong with it, as you can still win races easily in the old ones. Just trying to show that my fav ship is no 'clapped out old crap racer.' :p

Darkdrium777
25th July 2009, 09:17 PM
In the end, was there a reason to make those ships more powerful then the old ones?Because in the backstory, according to PSBlog Ship Design post, they are made/built/constructed/assembled with newer parts with better performance.

SaturnReturn
25th July 2009, 09:45 PM
The backstory could have come after the decision though, right? It's likely that it's more just an idea created to justify their inclusion. It's not as if it's a real existing story that the design should be true to.

2 more:

Separate volume slider for voice chat. Very annoying when you're in an event with random players and they yap a lot in a language you don't understand, or people are "being funny" and screaming and making noises.

Also, eliminator needs the reflector (deflector?) pickup from.. I think it was WO3. When this is active, it reflects any damage done to you, back to the ship that dealt it. Muahahahaha!

NeilSmith
27th July 2009, 12:49 AM
Yeah I miss my reflector aswell :) SL might hold off the release of other weapons until the next DLC I think as I doubt they will patch something like that in for free post-fury. That way we'll get a new set of weapons to play with after getting used to the new modes :) Plus that would allow us to revisit the old tracks with something new added to them. With Fury you get alot of gameplay, I think people will appretiate it more as some time goes by when we get used to all the new stuff.

Here is my list of changes I would love to see:

Progress Deletion
Let there be an option similar to Super Smash Bros. which lets you delete various parts of your save data. For instance, you can delete all the ships you've unlocked, or all of your times, or all of your campaign progress. Many times I've wanted to start the campaign all over again but cant really unless I wipe all of my data (which I don't REALLY want to do).

Custom Grid Creation
Just like in Pulse, you were able to make your own grids and race them. I think this is a feature that SURELY is lacking from this game. Give me the chance to make up a series of grids that I can SHARE with other people... I really don't know why this wasn't put in in the first place...

Those are the main two I can think of for now... Thoughts?

I have a suggestion that I think would be very easy to implement:

Detonator colour schemes in Zone

I'm quite simply in love with the first 13 colour schemes of Detonator mode (even 14 isn't too bad), they look so incredibly awesome that I'm just dying to try zone mode with those colour schemes. What I'd love to see is an option to enable the detonator colour schemes to take the place of the current Zone colour schemes. Right now one of the main reasons I don't hate Detonator events in the elite campaign grids like most do is because I'm just amazed at how beautiful the tracks look when you complete a lap. I'm even getting better and better in Detonator mode and getting elite gold medals with less of a problem thanks to it. I can only imagine how amazing it would be to see those colour schemes in zone mode where your eyes aren't all over the track scanning for mines to shoot, but rather just take in the fantastic visuals while passing zones. Please tell me I'm not the only one craving for this! :eek :hyper

I picked up Fury on Thursday, but only had the chance for my first real play last night. Loving it.

I would add that I'd like to see the following (some of which may already partially exist):-
1) From the Records screens e.g. say your browsing your friends scores for a certain game type, class and track. I'd like to be able to launch a game directly from there. E.g. If I see a friend has a better score than me, I want to challenge that and try and beat his score

2) Not quite sure how, but some kind of grid in the records area where per game type / class shows all the tracks down the screen, with the my best score, and may the top 5 scores of my friends. This would allow me to see on a single screen where I need to improve. Link to game selection here as well

3) In the normal game selection / loading screens (e.g. from the normal grid games). Show the targets for Gold / Silver / Bronze, along with my current record and achievement and the same for my top few friends. Maybe an option to enable/disable this as well

4) I'm still not clear on when the track times are synchronised online. I saw this happen when I first started up fury. E.g. if I get a new time, when does it get sent online, and when should I expect to see it with my friends scores. Is there a way to force a sync?

As you can see, I'm trying to build a little competition amongst my own friends lists. At the moment I feel a lot of the stats are hidden away in menus, when they'd be more interesting to see, whilst at the loading / game selection screens.

I don't think it will happen. That the server's list be updated as soon as someone create a new record, ok (i still don't understand why there is so much lag) but manually refresh the board, would be thé easiest way to overload the server.

Here's what I would like to see made available in a future patch.

Being able to group up to 4 racers to one online name [CLAN]

A modification/option of the friends online to be able to be switched/read to CLANS online, also showing what race mode said clan wishes to race in.

Being able to have one person in each clan designated as head of clan, this would show up with some sort of icon so the head of another clan could message pre race.

Being able to challenge another clan via nudge in each race mode.

Online rankings of each individual within a clan added up to show strength of clan.

In pure, you could choose which track you want to be played, and which one you don't want to.

But in HD/Fury, you can only choose the between the original soundtrack (all the songs not just specific ones), and a custom compilation (and if you want to mix it with some of the original songs, have to purchase them separatly u_u)

Just thought of another one: it would be quite useful to have an option during time trial or speed lap to have the camera follow your ghost instead of your ship for a complete lap (using either internal, close or far view, just like normally).

Why this would be great is because sometimes I have no idea what I did during my current record run (perhaps it was days or weeks since I last played the track, or I just took a turn or a series of turns instinctively), and when I try to beat that time, I see my ghost swoosh out of sight or overtake me when I know I had at least half a second advantage over it due to better piloting earlier on in the lap. When this happens, I usually go "What the flying intercourse did I do there to be so fast?" and currently the only way to check is is from your ship's point of view (AFAIK :?), which sometimes isn't enough to determine what the difference is, especially at phantom speed.

I had always wished they would throw us a reverse version of the HD campaign.
Same campaign (or similar anyway) only on the reverse version of the tracks.
Can't cost much to do and it wouldn't take a large patch to do it (I wouldn't imagine so, anyway)

REPLAYS
The ablitiy to save race replays (much like ghosts) to your PS3 HDD. Replays are from all three views (internal, far, and "cinmatic" track view). Format is hopefully something that can be replayed on your PC after you dl to a jumpdrive.

I have done so many funny/cool things as im sure most have, but the fact I don't have a recording method means I can't share them. Would make it possible for anyone to upload them.

I've recently started trying for some decent Speed Laps. It's very frustrating when your best time doesn't post online because you've been randomly disconnected (despite being still signed in to PSN).

There should be a way of ensuring that you're online before you start a Speed Lap session (or indeed any other single player session that posts results online).

A 'connect to server' button before you start. Or something.

Having the option to post your scores using your ghost ship save data would be very useful if your records doesn't sync at all with the server. I'm not sure how your records are saved to the leader board but some sort of synchronization has to happen at some point. It would definitely be nice with some official info on how this process works. Colin? Paul? ;)

I know it's been mentioned in the commercials thread - but it's more appropriate here.

I really do think that the 'absorb' loading screen "Ahhhh that's better" should be reworded. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it is completely at varience with the prevailing aesthetic, and sticks out like a sore thumb!

Just stating what how to absorb, and what it does in plain straightforward language would fit in with all the other screens.

I know it seems like a tiny thing to request changing, but every time I see that screen it's like nails down a blackboard!

My new revised list of changes!!!

Give me the chance to make up a series of grids of various race types that I can SHARE with other people... I really don't know why this wasn't put in in the first place...

Music Player
I think something similar to when you leave the title screen to goto demo mode, it plays through different tracks with whatever soundtrack you have selected. Something like this would be cool IF I could have control of the music playing and it would load the next level on the fly. I like to have people around and just leave the game running with the mean soundtrack in the background to sorta show off its good looks.

Online
I think there needs to be a few changes to online, not many but mainly in the lobby system. I will list all the things I think need changing
1) When you connect to a game in progress, you get this box which covers a good chunk of the information sometimes I wana read, like who is currently racing. You can sorta see the first 2 or 3 people but then after that the box covers it and there is no way to get rid of it.
2) I think this has been mentioned, but in the game browser, it flicks between race in progress and the name of the person whose room it is. I'm sure they can add a little icon to depict that the race is in progress without having to flick between it every time.
3) There should be a way you can put a message in your game lobby, for example when you join a certain lobby, a little msg box pops up saying whatever it is the game creator would want to say about the game. For example: "TALooN-X: This is a Bling Brigade lobby! All in for BB!" This would make searching for a particular game or information on said game quite handy.
4) Sorta going back to the grid based system which should be implemented, they should have a grid type tournament which allows you to play different game types in a row. Rather than Example: Single Race (Back to Lobby) Eliminator (Back to Lobby) Zone Battle (Back to Lobby) Just make it so you can set all those up in one Tournament type run.

Stats
I love the new stats! They are awesome! Just a few things that need to be changed IMO. For starters they need to be fixed (i.e. the photos taken and the other one that shows incorrectly). Once they have been fixed, let us see our friends' stats. I want to be able to see each persons favourite ships and tracks and all the types of weapons they use and dump. It would make for an interesting read being able to analyze other peoples stats as you would get an idea of their play style.

Again let me know what you guys think of these ideas!

An option to turn rumble off would be great (I couldn't seem to find an option for it on my ps3 menu, wipeout, or online. so im assuming it doesn't exist)

I just laid my dualshock3 to rest. The left trigger (my left airbrake) is a little loose, and thus, when it rumbles it clickityclacks like crazy and throws my whole feel off if I just touch it a little and stop it or if it vibrates against my hovering finger. I just came off an online SOL 2 with it and am now back on my sixaxis.

If we keep posting the same requests, is it more likely that SL will see them? Or do they read threads like this thoroughly?

Anyway, I'm repeating myself a bit but here goes:

1) Change the ranking system. The whole 'levelling up' thing is alright as a quick gauge of which opponents are regular players, but when you actually go to the 'online rank' list, it's pretty meaningless. Perhaps you could keep this particular 'online rank' in place (so as to not upset those who have worked hard to get to the top) but also introduce an 'Overall Rank' as seen on Connovar's website. This takes into account all of your records in every game mode, not just how much you play/win online, so it's a better gauge of who the really talented players are. And then make it available to view on the official Wipeout website.

2) As has been said many times, the reliability of posting results online needs to be improved.

3) A much smaller issue here: can we have a few more colours on the stat pages? I know it's trying to match the menu colouring, but it's very difficult to differentiate between all these shades of grey. In the 'weapons used' for example. In Wipeout Pulse I remember it was all the colours of the rainbow and it still looked cool, and much easier to read.

PLazarou
16th August 2009, 05:50 PM
Oh and:

4) Eliminator mode should have a fully-customisable weapon selection. For two main reasons: a) quakes sometimes feel like a cheap multi-kill, especially on a full grid, so they could be disabled, and b) it would be an interesting change to use just one or two weapons.

Many deathmatch-style games have custom weapon options (e.g. Unreal Tournament - rockets only! etc), and I think it would work very well in Eliminator too. Cannons-only would be very cool, for instance. Or just mines and bombs!

Interestingly, if you look at the icons in an Eliminator lobby, one of them cycles through the weapons available (1/8, 2/8, etc) in exactly the same way that the track icon cycles through selected tracks in a Tournament lobby. Perhaps this was already considered by SL but left out at the last minute? That weapon icon is fairly redundant at the moment...

Photo resolution: I think it should be possible to save photos in a 1080p format (or approching considering 4/3 or 16/9 aspect ratio). SL has already said that the game was rendered internally at 1080p then downscaled to the chosen resolution. Since a lot of people look a their photos on a PC, I think it might be the best if we can save photos at a higher resolution.

PLazarou

not if you are on a 4:3 CRT screen. Photos are save in the resolution the PS3 is set to, not the one the game is rendered (even internally).

Ah right I see. It's probably quite difficult to implement that, because although the engine has the ability to changes resolutions on the fly, it only changes vertically - the number of horizontal lines remains the same. Running in 1080p mode for instance, it goes between 1920x1080 and 1280x1080.

Darkdrium777

I don't know about all those instances but I can certainly attest to the ones above. Heck I used to play a lot of Backgammon at Yahoo but it became painful. Well it isn't enough then. With my crt SDTV screen, photo mode is pretty useless, even more when watching them afterward on my PC LCD screen which coule handle a fullHD resolution.

Obviously (since i'm a pro stats) i doesn' t agree with the stats problem. Disconnection is already punished, and it is SL Job to ensure the game is cheat safe. As for TT or SL times.
If global ranking there is, there should also be ranked event (reserved for people of a certain rank range). As in every game with solid online play.
Thé possibility to play against yourself cannot be excluded, but if it is enough to get top ranking ... Then the ranking system is to soft.

After playing some split screen H2H with my friends, we came to a couple conclusions. All weapon-related.

1) Increase lock-on range of locking weapons. If weapons are supposed to help a person catch up, they're not much help if they can't lock onto anything more than a second ahead.

2) If you add more items, maybe some more indirect fire weapons. Similar to above, with all the twists and turns of these courses, the only weapon of any use to anyone more than a couple seconds ahead os the Quake. Again, not much help at catching up. Maybe something like a Ricochet Beam, or EMP that stops opponents from gaining anything from speed/weapons pads for a few seconds, etc...

3) Increased weapon probability depending on position. Somewhat inspired by Mario Kart, I know some people might frown away from this suggestion, but again, imagine the frustration when you're racing someone and just can't seem to catch up, and all you're getting is mines, bombs and shields.

IH8YOU

Adding to your weapon thoughts - increase the lock-on range of missiles is a great idea.

One thing that always frustrated me was how slowly the rockets and plasmas traveled. Nothing quite like launching a salvo only to see it drag behind the person you aimed at. Why not make the rockets much faster - but 1/2 the strength.

Because this kind of system is highly exploitable (Players lagging behind so they get turbo and all hell breaks lose on the final lap), and breaks the game. So no.
Ever looked at Fatal Inertia EX? Yeah, you get turbos (a **** load of them, like 5-10) when you're at the back, but very few (3 maximum) when up front. Again: no.
The game is luck based for everyone, if you do get into this situation, it's just bad luck. Accept it as that and move on.

Well, the reason it was brought up was that it seemed like it wasn't luck based at all. The guy in front would get the items pretty randomly as normal, but the 2P would get maybe 1 or two Boosts if he's lucky, an Autopilot, and the rest were bombs/mines. A few things I wouldn't mind :

1. Reduce the slowdown/"sucking" when you touch walls. Would like it to be more like 2097/XL.
2. Custom weapon sets in online races (No more mines!)
3. A functioning spectator-mode
4. Replays!! And the option to save your replay to hdd for easy sharing on youtube etc.
5. Built in sharing of tt/sl ghosts. Browse the record tables and download whatever ghost you fancy or something like that.
6. If you get hit with a rocket/mine/bomb you more or less come to a complete halt (and fall off the track:brickwall). If you then immediately get eliminated from something else and respawn, the effects of the rocket/mine/bomb are still in effect, so you basically stand still on the track for two seconds after respawning. VERY annoying!
7. Do something about the mosh-pit at the start of online-races.
8. Rear-lock with missiles.
9. Proximity indicator in the alt. HUDs
10. Remove Pilot Assist from the game entirely! (Sorry guys and girls, but if you use PA I officially hate your guts!)
11. Team races, with option for friendly fire on/off (Ask Mic-dk, my int. double partner why:g)
12. Vista pads. Still going strong. They look right, and sound right, but still no pickup. Very annoying in Eliminator.
12. GARE D'EUROPA!
13. Rockets are way too powerful.

And some small errors I've noticed in Fury :
1. Did a Rapier online race a couple of weeks ago, but got the rankings from Phantom class. Not sure if my time was logged as Rapier or Phantom though.
2. When you improve your own record on a track there's a gray bar outlining your old record to make comparisons easier, but after Fury the bar and the font are the same color.
3. Offline single race record tables are still screwed up (And some people seem to be intentionally abusing it to get to the top of the tables. BAN BAN BAN!! And fix.)

And one more thing. Maybe it's just me - but does the guy in last place almost always get the "fastest lap" badge? Even if they're 20-30 sec. behind everyone else?

superpj1

10. Remove Pilot Assist from the game entirely !

In my opinion it shouldn't be removed because Wipeout is a (very) hard game and PA helps the popularity of the game :+. Here in France when Wipeout HD came out, it had excellent reviews from the games magazines, most of them talking of PA as a great idea to help beginners get into this game that was always considered very difficult. Personnaly I started playing with PA for 1 month then I disabled it progressively to gain speed. If PA didn't exist I don't think I would've bothered with Wipeout HD for more than 15 minutes because the way the ship halts when you hit the walls is sometimes "shocking" (compared to the other racing games) :g anyway PA slows down and disallow some shortcuts so it's not a easy way of beating good non-PA pilots ;)

Ok, I have a couple more concerning falling off track/warping.

First off, I think the mechanic by how it tells when you're falling off could stand a tweak. I can't tell how many times I've gotten screwed by trying a risky, high-flying stunt, veered just a little tiny bit but still completely capable of landing it, and the game goes "NOPE." and warps me right back to the jump point. Also, when that does happen, I think it could stand to be a bit more forgiving when that happens. Respawn at least close to the area where you fell off, instead of the jump point, cause the respawn time penalty is enough, don't put me half a track behind as well.

Secondly, on courses with sections without walls, if you fall off, you respawn facing the exact same direction you were when you fell off. On the higher speeds, sometimes it'll cause me to fall off 2-3 times in a row before I can correct myself enough to get back on track. This is particularly bad on parts at higher speeds when you're cornering, and begin to bounce, and bounce right over the edge (even with walls), and then respawn in the exact same place, so you bounce over the edge again, and again... When respawning, I think when respawning like that, it would help to be in the middle of the track, facing straight.

EDITL Ooh, ooh. Also, this may be a little much for a Patch, but what about more colors for the Fury ships? I mean all we got was default, transparent default with neon, and Silver.

Okay - maybe I came across as a little harsh on that point. It's not that I don't like the idea of PA, it's just the way it works out in online races. It can be extremely frustrating ending up behind someone using PA and veering all over the place, making it almost impossible to get past them, or at least not without getting bumped around like crazy in the process.

You sure it's not just "lag"? I know it's not really lag lag, but I know online opponents on my PS3 have a very odd movement about them, but I just chalked it up to the PS3 doing the best it can to keep up with their movements over the internet.

@DrMannevond

P.A users can be annoying with drunk driving sometimes..i just stick to phantom race most of the top players tend to turn it off to stop PA noobs from crashing everywhere.:dizzy

i just stick to phantom

That's exactly when it's the most annoying. And quite honestly I see as much of it, if not more in Phantom races as I do any in other of the classes when I'm on.

Well let me preface that by saying it's probably more likely that some of the players in those Phantom races aren't using it but I prefer to look for rooms hosted with PA off so there's no one with it on. Especially when I race in Phantom. As far as hosting goes. I play at night here in the US which is way early in the morning for you. There's very few people on. If I hosted a Phantom room without PA I'd be sitting there for a long time. Unfortunately that's what I have to deal with with the time zone I'm given.

Dammit, there's always those little practical factors that interfere with the execution of good advice. ;)

Not that it's a issue or glitch in the game, but i find some of the explosions in online play a little to large and sometimes crash or go off the track because i can not see where i am going.

Probally how it would be in real life, but annoying all the same.
