Hey guys, I'm having a couple issues with this adapter: http://www.hkems.com/product/ps2/ps2-usb2.htm

First, the accelerator is always on, so I can never let off of it and all my starts are slow.

Next, I can't map any buttons on the in game menu. So I guess it's not detecting my button presses, and it doesn't pick up the analog stick either.

Anybody else had these problems? Any fixes you know of?

PSX/PS2 -> USB adapters are a dime a dozen... or even cheaper. If you can't get your hands on a different one, there are a couple things you can do.

Open device manager and see ifthe adapter is recognized as a hid-complaint device or if it's unrecognized. If it's unrecognized, you'll probably need drivers. Once it's recognized, go into the control panel and open the Game Controllers panel. Calibrate/configure it there, then load the game again and see if it's recognized.

I dont know how old the PC version of XL is, it may not recognize USB controller devices... trial and error is the name of the game unfortunately :/

Yeah, it's a chinese product with drivers made by the company. They have the best support of any ps2>usb adapter, but there's probably a few different issues keeping it from working.

I'd like to get a gamecube>usb adapter, but I'm afraid that'll have issues too.

I could always buy a cheap used gameport/serial joystick, but I'd really like to stick with a controller.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet, keep your eyes peeled for different adapters and just try different ones. Funny you mention gamecube, because I found one on clearance somewhere for nine bucks that lets you use a PSX/PS2 controller, Xbox, or even a Gamecube controller...

I think I snagged it at a Walmart somewhere...
But there are others still. *shrug*

have you tried Xpadder (http://www.xpadder.com/)?, don't have my contacts in you so I can't find the link, but I got the free version a few weeks ago and it works great, it lets you configure all the buttons on any game controller how you like them, though I did just buy a 2nd PS1/2 adapter and Xpadder doesn't seem to recognise the analouge L button on my neGcons but other than that Xpadder is great and supports allot of tweaking, I've also heard good things of joy2key or joy to key I'm not sure how its spelt

good luck with getting things to work

If you happen to have the psx version, you can play it on your pc with epsxe, which may have better support for your setup.

Xpadder doesn't help wipeout recognize the pad. Thanks for the help though. I saw on another thread that the presence of an extra axis might be the cause of the auto acceleration problem (I have four axes, two for each thumbstick).

I picked up a cheap gameport joystick for the time being though, maybe that'll be fun. Still would greatly prefer a controller though.

it does it when you use the Dualshock 3 on XL.
