lol @ Kigo!

No it's not some sort of new pass, might be a hidden corner at AP tho, dunno. It's the gibberish the little creeps in Charlie and the Chocalate factory sing :P I was in a jolly mood and swung it out!

As Avalon is pretty much a crazed event I found it to fit as an exclamation of joy :D

damn, bad timing mate. Hope you'll enjoy your holidays, even without your ps3 lol.
As AnErare said, that's a crazy story from the start. If this event is probably one of the last I could organize, we'll find solutions to keep delivering.

archman
13th May 2009, 06:00 PM
I can proudly announce that the eight racer for the upcoming Pulse session confirmed, so the first session is full! We are still inviting you to confirm, so we can go with multiple hosts and do the knockout phase. Those already in: if any new participants confirm, prepare for the long night! It WILL be intense. Hope to see you all on May 23rd!!! Thank you for the support!

13th May 2009, 06:10 PM
Glad to read that mate. Regarding the HD part, Blackwiggle (AUS), Darkdrium777(CAN) & SaturReturn (well ENG but dutch) will be ready to host some sessions. I've contacted TcK & Kigo too, I think we'll have some kind of good network for this event, regulated through the WOzone Chatbox on ps3.

SaturnReturn
13th May 2009, 06:57 PM
Maybe we should start an Avalon chatbox for the event, as I know Kigo has trouble accessing the WOZone one.

Yeah, I didn't start it. I think previously Kigo set up another one and someone mentioned he couldn't access the WOZone one. Didn't realised you'd never been in it. It's the place to be :D Anyway, I'll definitely invite you next time I see you on Kigo, and if it doesn't work for you or anyone else during Avalon then we can make an Avalon one :+

kanar
20th May 2009, 03:09 PM
Ok. I'm going to sum up the things a little ah ah. Here's the estimated road map for FRIDAY;

-HD : I'll be online from 19h00 GMT 'til late in the night. As Kigo & Blackwiggle are Australians, they're free to host some no weapon races & keep an eye on the records if they want to, before the Euro zone meeting. Well in fact, same for you Sat, Ane, TCK, Dark... I you're eager to start before feel free to do so.

Races & Host back up will be organized from the WOZone chatbox (If some people haven't access to this chatbox, or if it's full, we'll open a second one).
Here's the definitive list of the avalon HD MayDay Crew lol : KIGO, BLACKWIGGLE, SATURNRETURN, ANERARE, TAROTCARDKILLER, DARKDRIUM777, & me.

-PULSE : Unfortunately Arch couldn't make it this particular night. We'll see if MrSmadsmartAlex, ACE-FLO, KIGO or maybe someone else can host friday sessions. I'll try to join myself, after some destructive HD hours.

Gah -2 days...

kanar
22nd May 2009, 11:53 AM
hey dark, basically, yes. But feel free to adapt it (in the case you would want to host some races, later in the week). The main objective is to keep running the record tables (and host some good races of course lol), that simply means to host some no weapons races sometimes. I'll be online for 19h00 GMT, maybe sooner. I'll connect to WOZone chatbox, and we'll see how the things are going.

edit : ok Dark, no worries. Hope you could at least join us for some races.

eLhabib
22nd May 2009, 12:19 PM
D777, I think the real problem with your internet is the low upload speed, that's what causes all the problems in online games, like vista pads and the like.
If anything, try to boost your upload speed.
Here's mine, and that's not even fast for european standards...
http://www.speedtest.net/result/479127761.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

lunar
22nd May 2009, 12:42 PM
eL, that`s faster than anything in the UK, I think. Our military probably has something almost that fast to control the nuclear bombs and protect the queen and vital tasks of that nature.

JJPAP you have the most organised life of everyone here, I think. Brilliant.

I might get into a few races late tonight, but apart from that I don`t think I will be able to race. Thanks for the teasers, Kanar,(every one`s a classic :) ) and best of luck for the marathon ahead :coffee

As for Avalon - I will definitely try to join later at night, when I come home from a party (if I'm not too drunk then, that is...).
I'll also be on sometime in the afternoon, if anyone wants to warm up.

kanar
22nd May 2009, 03:50 PM
hey guys & gals, thanks a lot for the support again. Means a lot to me. Yeah 3 hours before the beginning of this marathon. Woaw, It's been 9 months that I'm playing this game now, you know, the hard way, always trying to find time in my real life for playing wipeout. I just realized that I couldn't continue this way for long. My Ps3 is about to experience YLOD (hope it won't happen this we lol), and I need to get back quickly to a more balanced life. That's why I think it's probably my last crazy week-end, before a real break this time.

Anyway, back to topic. As Archman will be busy, our mate ACE-FLO will host the PULSE session tonight (19H00 GMT). I really hope to race you all this we. May the BR & weapon pad be with you all.

If anything, try to boost your upload speed. It's impossible. Everyone with my ISP has that, and we aren't about to change service providers when they're still giving us unlimited while other people who register now get bandwidth caps.

Hello everyone - As you've been infromed by Archman that I will be hosting tonights Pulse Avalon session, which is really Kanars legacy, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say I hope I can do this prestigious event some justice. I've not been a member long to this site, but have made many friends whom I race with regularly.

I feel honoured that I was asked to host tonight... Thank you Kanar and Archman for this decision.

Also I will be in contact with Avalon members who will be participating tonight through MSN messenger. Members who are participating - if you wish to engage in some fun chat inbetween races and during loading times, please PM me your MSN... I will then add you to my list.

I find these chat sessions to be full of laughs and helpful in getting to know other pilots better...

Other than that - I wish everyone participating tonight a happy and eventful evening/night full of the Mayhem and Madness we have come to know and love as Wipeout...

Hopefully we'll get thru all 48 races (24weps off and 24 weps on)

No wonder ther has been so few posts at this forum in the last few hours.

Every Zoner that has ever read a single post here is ONLINE ATM.

Glad we all recognizance each other and group together [makes for better races]also helps when KANAR is not held singly responsible for this whole 3 day continuous event .

If you see a zoner hosting a race Phantom/no weapons then 90% chance this is a AVALON meet.

Guys can we make it that whoever takes over the AVALON meet while KANAR has a break creates a chat room and invites as many people as possible

Thanks a lot for the help SAturn & Darkdrium, and AnErare, and all the zoners who joined the races & the chatroom tonight.

Yes Outpost7 is a hard ****. A real challenging track. Sure does give the HD newbie pilots a good scare when they go on it for the first time expecting something basic
No, challenging is not what I'd call it, I'd call it "horrendously busted". Silverstream, Odessa Keys, and P-Mar Project are nice and cuddly compared to Outpost 7. Too many chicanes for a Wipeout track if you ask me. It's hard enough with the double hairpins.

Whos the dodgy **** that gave you neg rep?? INFUCCKSU is an idiot like i stated here before on this very thread, being an irritating turd to other members here at Wipeoutzone as well as on other forums. Saying **** like ACE-SLO and crap. Stupid pretty ponsy boy from manhatten. Someones got to cancel his clone account here if he's going to be pesky again. Cant mods like Lance chase after his IP address or something?

Still laughing at the chatbox sessions on MSN last night. God there where instant classics. Couldnt stop laughing. The track intro comments as well. Arc Prime Black, "Cant stop the signal? Windows Vista already did":lol"Flawless curves on Platinum Russ, loooooool XD!!!!" Damn funny stuff. Looking forward to the next rounds. Hope the power stays on here, weather here atm is crazy:cold.

It is a bit of a shitty track when you think about it, those 3 successive tight hairpins are a real bitch.

question: Who is the sad and lonely wiper who gives bad rep to anyone speaking the truth about his over sized and fragile ego?

Need another clue? Who got skooled by my buddy Smad on deKon W last nite (Smad only had the game a few months too) ?

Who races AG with cfw@333 and thinks they are a high fashion model?

answer: Gayfag-Sue... lol this guy leaves the weps off races coz he cant execute his cheats...

Wow I'm a little tired lol. But I really had a blast too with all the zoners I met online so far. Really, and to be honest, and that will be my last rant lol, I MISS 1.26. But when I see Wotan or other aces improving some times, I just can say to myself "well it's just practice, and good ping lol". I'm just talking about the joy of racing . I mean our opportunities to enjoy a perfect online race, perfectly feel your ship, and chain some PL, decreased with these focus killers such as vista pads & broken BRs. Not even mentioning the rest. Thanks so much for the fun races yesterday...though I must apologize for my horrific performances. Yes, I'm about to make an excuse lol. I just got a brand new tv two days ago. Went from a 46-inch, floor-standing, 1080i, rear-projection unit to a 50-inch, wall-mounted, 1080p, plasma unit. So, in addition to a larger and far better picture (in regards to WO, the graphics are almost TOO good now, if that makes sense lol), my viewing perspective has changed, so it's totally thrown off my piloting. I really hope it's just a matter of getting used to it, as I'll be damn bummed if not. :| Anyone else experience something like this when upgrading their tv? Anyway, I'll be online to join the Avalon event again in a bit...see you all soon! :hyper

Who oOh. Thanks to all who joined us for this crazy week-end. We spent great times together. AnErare! Thanks a lot for your help mate!! And by the way, you're the new chatbox MVP! (too bad KIGO couldn(t compete!). So much fun with all of you guys & gals. I really love these "wipeout unite" moments on the WZone chatbox. Regarding the races, weeeell. Wotan you confirmed you're one of the best hd pilot around. You're clearly a great MVP. And as usual, the MAGEC promotion is ****in amazing. Eric what did you do on metro reverse lol. And Luxo dfinitely settled in Moa Rev! There was definitely uber skilled wipers everywhere. I've just one regret, and as soo many wipers said it in the 1.40 thread, I'm really sad we had to play under these racing conditions. I remember the good times when we just moaned about the crazy ramming & physic. Now we pray before each race in order to have BRs, no glitches, no vista pads, no rockets in the ass, no 5 quakes per race, no uber Cambodia (Cambodia+Banda hache races), no microFreezes, no ram/respawn, no blah blah blah. This game became crazy. All these interferences that make you run away to offline mode. The Zone & wipeoutArena members are definitely the only efficient patch actually. So that's why I thank you all again for this week-end. We all had at least one moment of glory lol. And we shared it. Ok bedtime ah ah.

No i wasnt really up for Bandi Ache and Cambodia tonight, just bought a new controller, and i very much do not wish to break it.

As i said before on the 24th, yesterday, my stupid 2year internet contract with Dildo has finish, now i can shop for speed, what speed internet do i need for Wipeout HD to get zero lag guys?

Is 1.5mbps enough guys. Cause i think thats the only amount of speed i can get out of my shitty area??

Darkdrium777
24th May 2009, 11:35 PM
That's what I had before. Now I have 6MBps. There is still lag. It's not the connection, it's WipEout HD's God-awful netcode. :|

Even on the LANs at the Euro convention it was still the same thing.

I'll say again: 1.5MBps doesn't cut the lag. At all. It might help for Vista related problems (I have 6MBps and even less Vista messes), but not the collisions and etc. There's still as many.

I will be posting the results for the Avalon pulse session tomorrow on this thread! Sorry for being late with this... but I've been on MSN for most this evening with Kigo, RJ and even Saturn for a bit. Very funny moments on MSN with Kigo.

It's not the netcode. I have no lag at all. Ever.
It's the upload speed you have to worry about.

25th May 2009, 02:11 AM
Upload doesn't have an influence on the packets you receive from other players. That's download. And I'm sorry, but if WipEout HD requires your type of connection, it's still the netcode that's badly optimized :lol
FYI I played Motorstorm, a physics dependent racing game, also by Evo/SL. No lag. I play FPS online, no such lag... It's WipEout HD, it's the only game I know that I've ever played online that seems to "forget" it's offline code and act up completely randomly and very often at your disadvantage online. Because seriously, there's no reason for the collisions to be this penalizing online, while offline they're still ok. That's a problem with the game, not with anything or anybody else.
And lets not mention the vista pads and the barrel rolls. Barrel rolls first and foremost shouldn't be affected by lag, they are performed on the client side! Yet they are! Ridiculous :lol When you shoot or turn or steer or whatever in other games, it works, there is just a delay between you pressing and the action being performed (the ping). In WipEout HD, there's no such thing as ping, everyone lags xD Truly terrible. :lol It's funny but it's sad at the same time, because it's really fun to play online.

And yeah, just to prove my point: look at the ships in the euro convention videos, see how they behave? Exactly like online! Yet you're on a LAN! a LAN! That's direct! NO PING! There's no downloading or uploading, yet it acts the same as if it were! But I suppose it's the upload speed that's got to do with it... [/sarcasm]

Just woke up. Ah, nothing's better than a good day at work after a great wipeout week-end... :turd... Seriously, and to go back on topic, Darkdrium I can understand you. Elhabib, you know we're not talking exactly about lag issues or bandwitch problems. I mean for my part, I just stated, after 9 months & 2 updates, that something went wrong somewhere. I remember the days we plugged 2 ps3 & hosted 2 rooms at my place... Seriously my ISP hasn't decreased my connection band. I believe there are interferences between 1.30/1.40 & sony new firmwares & different series of hardware maybe... wrong CELL process... I really dunno. I just don't understand how a nearly perfect online experience turned into something that make me questioning myself like that. I've never felt such frustration when playing before last month. Which is seriously crazy. And LOL this is not because you guys kicked my ass the entire week-end, I was used to that before ah ah. Gah the good old days. Anyway, I'm lurking from the start at this fantastic zone mode lol. This game has infinite gameplay doh. And the sun is shining, the weather is hot, I want to play basket-ball too lol.

see you soon my friends. Best online community ever.

Thanks a lot to kanar and the wipeout community, for this absolutely crazy weekend . It ruined my health, once again (especially enduro tour who was very hard) .The chatroom was too nutcase, I laughed a lot, although I have to admit that I didn't still understand everything (isn't it stink ? ^^).

Thx everyone, again ounce. See you ;)

I have to give up all hope of a record now. The only ones I ever got close to have been improved upon so much. I can't even fathom how the guys achieve those times without boosts. Crazy! But they all deserve them, that's for sure.

I'm sure you can beat some records, ubermall in particular. I saw your yputube's video , and if you content with making the shortcurt without br, for use it somewhere else you will spare time ;).

Sorry I couldn't participate past the first hour of this weekend's wipeout marathon .
Just couldn't keep my eyes open with all the flu medication ,I kept dozing off [very embarrassing ] while I was online,
Slowly coming good, but still feel like I have personally walked into a bomb without craft protection [ringing in the ears etc]

Glad to see SO many Zoners participating, this has really become "THE' event for all that truly LOVE this game.

VIVA AVALON !

@D777: fair enough. The game really does behave differently online than off, which is weird, to say the least. I'm not sure that's a lag issue, though.
What I understand by lag is ships jerking around the track, disappearing into walls and then reappearing in front of you, and the like. I haven't had that one single time since I upgraded my internet connection.

I'm not sure BRs are to do with the netcode (i don't know if anyone said they were, i'm just saying :)) because I have just as many issues forcing a BR offline as I do online. As a matter of fact, my online BRs this weekend were more consistent than my offline one's
*offline = single race NOT tt/sl

Well if you remember, guillaume, at the convention we had what you could call a LAN. The way it works (I suppose) is that the online servers are there only to connect the players to each otherm but once the race is started, traffic doesn't go over the servers, but rather directly peer to peer. That's why we had NO LAG AT ALL at the conv.

eLhabib, you are right about one thing: there is no lag per se on the convention vids, but there is still something wrong with it: if the game acted properly on the LAN, both ships when they hit each other would repel each other, right? But it doesn't, it does the same thing as if it were two players distant hundreds of kilometers one from the other. You get pushed away but the other ship acts like an impenetrable wall.
And then we have the lines the other ships take. You were all good players at the convention, yet doesn't it look like all the other ships are scraping the walls in the turns, they go directly to the outside line and follow the turns then? The exact same thing happens online, and you see players going through the walls when there is a lot of lag. But it's something good players do not do, they always take the inside lines, not the outside ones...
Both of these things happen on the LAN and online though, which means it's not related to the internet connection you have, it's related to WipEout HD. And as I said, I've played Motorstorm, you'd expect, if it's related to the internet connection, that I would have had the same kind of issues, only made worse by the fact that Motorstorm is reliant on physics and interactions between the cars. But there is nothing wrong in Motorstorm. In fact, I have yet to be hit by a car and driven into a wall, and then that car teleporting instantly some distance away like it had not hit me. Something that happens a lot in WipEout HD. Sure I've had the occasional prediction code fail, where the car appears to crash in the wall, but then appears as a ghost and keeps on going, but that only happens on your end. In WipEout HD it seems the prediction code always fails, as you have the ships constantly following the outside line in turns (Have you ever seen a ship online take the inside line on the first turn at VinetaK forward? I have never). You'd expect the packets you receive from other players to correct this situation fairly quickly and show the ship where it actually is sometimes, but it never happens. And you get that even with your connection I am certain.
That's why I say something is wrong with the netcode/prediction whatever. In Motorstorm there isn't this issue of the player always looking like he's performing some kind of action, when in fact he's never doing it, in Killzone 2 there isn't the issue of a player going one way and in fact he's going the other the whole time, in UT3 there isn't this issue, in Warhawk there isn't this issue, etc.
I wish WipEout HD would be better optimized for this myself (Which is my whole point really), but it's been there since forever, even in Pulse although a lot less (It only happened when there was packet loss, now it happens all the time), and it's never been fixed. For the next game I hope they work on it, or at least use some of the AI code for prediction, that way if you lose packets between players, the ship AI takes over until the next packet. This way you have no ships scraping or going through walls, they are where they appear to be.

That list looks awesome Ace, damn that's been a wicked tournament! My HD experience far outweighs the joy I got from racing pulse online but I might join you guys in the next Avalon :)

HD has been so damn hot over the weekend. At one point there were 3 hosts providing Avalon wickedness, every time it's seems to attract more and more pilots from more and more countries. Most of the "new" people scare away if they realise its going to be 4 races PER track but a lot stick around and persist anyway. I hope the next will be even better. Kanar your idea has truly become legendary! Big thanks to you man. :nod

During breaks I often chose to remain on guard while manoeuvring my ship into a tactical spot out of the starting grid. To both not hit anyone at the start and have a good view of the passing pilots. This has shown me some great moments with close finishes but also the occasional pilot pasing straight through my ghosted ship while I was looking rearview! Frenzy! Amorbis once passed through me as if he was trying to take my skin along ;D Amazing action. I almost had the impulse to start a fight or shift aside, couldn't decide because I knew I didn't have to do anything ;)

5 Fly Hi Platinum Ica Darts to you Kanar.

Yes AnErare, the sessions were very tight and intense. This Pulse revival has become a success with so much talent gracing the pulse servers, its ensured the longevity of this format.

And now, with TeamLink Division thrown into the scene, dare I say us Pulsers have a new lease of life too...

Adding to the already anticipated Pulse Avalon events, this is nothing short of a revolution! Please do join us soon!

D777, maybe the netcode for HD is worse than Motorstorm's, but the things you were talking about, with ships not being displayed on their actual racingline - that's terrible! And no, I don't have that! Don't really see it on the conv videos either... :?
I'm pretty sure when I am racing online, that the other ships get displayed pretty much exactly where they actually are...

Darkdrium777
26th May 2009, 09:55 AM
You should look closely then. :) Because it always happens. At least for my type of connection. And it shouldn't, if it doesn't happen in Motorstorm. That's my point. :)
And because it happens, you get the ridiculous collisions with it. :|
Again, look at every turn on every track: I don't have your connection but I'm placing a bet that never you will see a ship close to the inside wall on a turn. Because it most certainly never happened at the convention. :)
Just look at yourself in this video (http://www.wegame.com/watch/European_WipEout_Convetion_2009_HD_Tournament_Divi sion_1_Tour_3_Race_1/), and look at the weapon pads. :)

Has anyone ever made a thread specifically to discuss lag? The lag issue seems to come up in every Avalon thread so maybe the topic deserves its own. The discussion and theories are actually very interesting, especially looking at the videos. A whole topic on theories about what is happening, an individual's interpreation of lag, why it's happening etc, could be a good read. It would be much easier to find the info and it would show up in thread searches too. Anyone wanna start one?

Lag....

Had a Marketing lecture yesterday.

Professor gave me a question

Why do new products on the market today always have a very high chance of failure?

My Response to the class was,

They are built inferior and shitty that is why they fail.

Was thinking about the terrible lag i always get. That is why i gave that answer.
