I was pointed this direction by 'Firedshot'.
We've got a league starting shortly for Wipeout HD. We're a UK based site so if you fancy joining other UK/Euro Wipeout HD users for a friendly league drop by and put your name on the line.

Hosting a WipEoutZone league is a great idea. I've always considered this to be the official-unofficial (or is that unofficial-official) site for the most hardcore of wipeout players, so why not?

Well if thats the case, y don't we NA players just steal/adjust the rules and make the league on this forum, seems entirely possible.

A league for all classes or just 1, Would be great to see a league for all. Have as many divisions as needed for a league for the amount of people to join with 16 players per division say? each division race's 4 time moving the top 2 players to the next group of 8. At the end people get promoted or demoted depends on win or loose to the difrent division if there is one to move to?
Could be possible to do this for each class or have a Venom/Flash then a Rapier alone and phantom alone due to alot of rapier racers not liking phantom would be unfair to put them in 1?
Just putting idea's in for people to think about!

I would like to run the league on playstationleague.co.uk, however I would also be quite happy to post results and information on this site as well. Here's the link again.

I have been wondering why aren't there any leagues for WipeOut? I have been thinking about months. I've played a lot of games with leagues, ladder systems. Live for Speed has tons of leagues.
A season would last X amount of time. Now this style would have teams. Players are responsible for there teams. Recruiting, and manning any third party stuff they want. Each team would have a set number of racers, per division. Now like F1 the team and pilots would be scored separately. So every pilot of a team is trying to help there team and there own personal score. I also pictured to spice things up. Each team from the beginning of the season would pick what chassis they would be racing for that season. This would make it a challenge since you wouldn't be able to switch ships per race. Now each chassis would only get so many teams to use it. I'd like a 1 per 1 chassis rule. If one team has Icaras, then they are Icaras for that season, and so on. Depending how many people are involved the chassis maybe 2 teams can use each chassis.
Now each season would have divisions and junior leagues. But being part of the same team. So you would have Vemon, Flash, Rapier, Phantom (Premier) classes. Guys that are your heavy hitter phantom pilots can't race in the vemon class. They have to pick there division before hand. So no pilot is allowed to race in every division.
Now the season would be short maybe a couple of weeks before a new season begins. Blanking everyone scores and new chassis can be picked. A virtual trophy would be given for the champion pilot, and one for the number one team, and which chassis they used. Seasons would also be a mixture of events. So weapons races, non-weapons races. Single one off events, 4 stage tournaments, reverse tracks. I picture the seasons calendar would be given out, so everyone knows what tracks will be up, and what mode of play. So you could practice that track in between live events. The lower divisions would be using the same schedule.
The biggest problems I found would be, 1. How do you keep track of scoring? 2. How do you enforce chassis per season?

I have a moderate amount of experience using TWL's (Team Warefare Leagues) setup. The site is mainly based on PC games, but there are a few console leauges/ladders on the site. All they require is enough support behind the game and they will make a area for it (IE post of the forums with enough ppl and bam you get the area). From there they get an admin (existing or one who asks and has previous experience) to watch the league. If its a ladder, then its by challenge, and once the challenge is set then its up to the two racers/groups in question to setup a time and place. Failure to do so is a forfit for the defenders. If its a league, you have pre-set days and times to do the events, and you go from there.
TWL works on the honour system, the loser reports the loss and the ladder/league is updated. Disputes are handled by admins, and depending on the size of the issue, the result can be either a rematch or banning of one party.
In terms of rules, TWL generally has a forum post where users argue what should and shouldn't be allowed, taking the best idea and using them. For some games its complicated due to server files being completely rewritten (CoD4) but for wipeout which is on the console, the user can't do much outside changing the normal online settings so I don't see much of an issue. Rules would be something like ship selection, weaps on/off, # races per match.
Now its been awhile since i've used TWL's site mainly because of a drop off in two of my shooter clans, but the setup is pretty easy to get around.
Its easy to do it on this (wipeoutzone) site without having to go elsewhere with active users and admins of a league, which this forum has plenty off. There just needs to be a framework for it created.

Sorry about the big quote, but we'll live.
I think this is a great idea, so long as it is with a pilot's championship as well.
Then, like in F1, there would be 2 championships.
You suggested that there be 4 different leagues for the four different speed classes, although I see this league being run through all 4 speed classes in order to find out who the best, overall pilot is. Being a phantom specialist shouldn't necessarily mean that they are the best overall.
Scoring shouldn't be an issue, if we do tournaments. The two pilots in each team (eg Harimau) would have their individual score for the pilots championship, and their scores would be added together for the team championship. Does this make sense.
To answer your second question, before each season commences, a signup sheet could be displayed with the teams on, and competitors must pick their team before all racing commences. Should someone be unhappy with their choice during the season, they may negotiate their team position with someone else, although any changes must be clearly notified, and pilot and team standings will not change.
The pilot line ups at each time change with each season, and cater for the promotion and relegation. To make things more interesting, the same player cannot race in the same vehicle for two consecutive seasons.

I was thinking different divisions then. It would give a sense of moving up the ladder. Also giving new pilots a sense of starting out. Kind of like a MotoGP with the different classes. So a vemom pilot may want to move up to the premier phantom league one day.
Maybe each speed class can have a A, B, C, etc version. Depending on how many people want to do it.
So a team would register there name, the pilots on there team. What pilots race for each each speed class. Limit the number on a team over all per speed class. Because it would end up being huge french teams, against tiny teams. lol
Maybe the winner of the last season Champion would for the next season use a Chrome skin, to stand out quickly.
So each champion per speed class would have a chrome skin.
Maybe each calendar event would have each race done twice, since races can be really short. So a weapons one, non-weapons, back to back. Then scores are added together. Or maybe 4 races per calendar event.
Calendar would be posted in advance so everyone can practice. Also for "Fans" to see what is coming up.

I pictured it you'd sign up for your speed class. Then during that season you only go with your speed class you chose. Not forcing you to change, race with what your comfortable with. I picture it would all be in the same league each speed class would be it's own championships, pilot and team.

Agreed.
And once traveled against all in the AVALON LEAGUE,well,it would be a bit of a second run situation.
Sorry, but KANAR has the "Definitive" racing GG's,and I can't see it ever being equaled or bettered.
All the TOP racers have their wits prepared for an AVALON meet, you have to.
Maybe if you ran it for HD racers that only race RAPIER or FLASH speeds.
The PHANTOM LEAGUE GG's are solely in KANAR's realm and attrach ALL the ELITE racers.:paperbag
PS.
After reading this, well, I thought I might of come across disparaging of your attempt at a separate league.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The more players the better .
If you see the need,GO FOR IT!

See the website for more details, and look at rule 2.
http://www.playstationleague.co.uk/board/viewtopic.php?f=268&t=4322
Due to people not wanting to race at all of the different speed categories, I have reduced it to just flash and rapier classes. As part of the rule change, leagues will now run for just a two week period.
Should people still want to race in their favourite individual classes, a lot more people will need to be sign up to the league in order to have enough pilots. (and also catering for no shows, absences etc.)
Unless there are large numbers of objections, I would like to run the league on Sunday afternoons/evenings, but the time is yet to be decided!
And finally, just a further reminder that if you haven't done so already, you'll need to sign up to Playstation league before we can start!!!!!!!!

Im definately up for some rapier and flash races. It would make a nice healthy change to be honest as most of the events on here are geared towards phantom, which I really dont enjoy as much. You elite guys have to understand that just because you dont enjoy phantom, doesnt make you unworthy. I get tired of hearing "well done, but you should race phantom" it just becomes demeaning after a while. Ill sign up to PSL now :D

Done, signed up! Im guessing its about 5 hours or so time difference, depending on whereabouts in the US you are. Which will make it hard for you either way Jason. I wouldnt mind playing later, or on a Sunday evening to accommodate for time zone issues.

No. It'll have to be Tuesdays, because it clashes with other things on a Sunday, and I don't particularly want to go much later because I saw someone from Belgium wanting to take part. If we started at 10pm GMT, we may not finish 'til midnight in European time, which would be very unsociable.

It's sounding more like a ladder system them a 2 championship league system.
Spinninggenius
7th February 2009, 08:27 PM
It could be conceived as a ladder system I suppose because only people in the top division can win outright, and promotions and relegations happen. In England, we'd call this a league system, but either way, they are peas in a pod.

http://www.playstationleague.co.uk/board/viewtopic.php?f=268&t=4376
-----------------------------------------------------
I'll tell you all where this league is going. Competitor sign up for the 1st round of leagues will close on Tuesday at 9pm, as will the vote for what day the league is run on.
I shall then give 24 hours for people to sign up to playstation league, and if people fail to do so, they will be stricken (for want of a better phrase) from the list for the league.
There will then be a seeder event on either Tuesday 17th February or Sunday 22nd February to decide what leagues people will go in, depending which date is chosen, and the leagues will commence the week after (either the 24th or 1st March)
Incidentally, I'll stage a practice tournament next Sunday the 15th at 7.15pm, to which you are all invited, in order to test the format for racing and to give me a chance to make a practice grid/table thingy.
If you have any questions please PM me at playstation league or on PSN. Cheers!
Last chance to sign up!!!!!

Good to see this is getting legs now. I was doubtful there would be enough interest but spinninggenius has proved me wrong, good work!
It was me that insisted people sign up to PSL that are taking part. This is due to two things. The whole PSL site is run voluntarily, and we like to spend as much time gaming as possible not caught up in 'electronic paperwork' organising and running events. It makes sense to only visit one url to take part, though If SG wants to double post stuff that's fine too.
Of course you guys could just as easily run a league from here, but we do have some nice stuff in place to make the game mods lives easier, such as embedded tables and the chat box.
The chat box is on the front page of psl and all registered members can see and use when logged in, this can be invaluable in setting up and passing info around, or just for having a laugh during events. Not everyone has comms, so it's a good point of contact when racing/shooting or whatever.
Happy Racing :)
