View Full Version : Something strange with beating Zico.

I haven't until yesterday even attempted to beat ZICO, mainly because of the total inconsistent ability to pull off a barrel roll let alone string a few together in one lap.

I've read most if not all of other peoples ways of tackling this challenge, some have done it with 4,3 or two B/R's.

So I thought I'd go into the records and have a look at the global times of Speed lap-Venom, and see how many speed pads that out of the 501 people to date that have used Pirahna, and bettered or equaled ZICO's time, had hit.

Now the strange bit.
I've counted the max number of possible speed pads that you could possibly hit, including the early jump off the overpass,at 17 S/Pads.
1]First 1 at the start
2]You can hit 3 going around the first left
3]The 3 in a row down the straight
4]The 3 between the straight at the sharp left
5]You can hit 2 while turning at the sharp left
6]You have 4 on the overpass.
7] Lastly 1 the early overpass jump off.
Total 17

According to the global records, the average S/Pads hit is 14 the minimum is 12 and then this..at global position 257th at a time of 30.75 neozeo with wait for it ...S/Pads hit..18.
The next highest number hit is 16.

Could somebody have cracked WOHD and invented a cheat?
Is there a explanation to this that I have missed?

It all seems rather strange to me.
I would like to hear what the rest of the forum members might have to say about this abnormally.

A cheat is highly unlikely.
A glitch in counting the speed pads however is plausible. Don't get me wrong the game is great and all, but still has many glitches that remain to be fixed: pause/freeze when pressing the voice chat button, deactivated weapon pads in a race with weapons on (online), respawning upside down when you have pitch set to motion control and the controller is slightly tilted forwards or backwards (Happens on certain sections of tracks, like that long left bend before the overpass on Anulpha), delayed weapon pad activation (which sometimes craps out when you pass over two weapon pads fairly quickly), sometimes you cannot see the friends game even though you have the friend filter selected... A problem like that could be possible.

What the hell...i sware i posted... o well here i go again

My theory is that when he came off the overpass to do his BR, he landed on the right pad, but nicked the side of the other pad( cause he was going in a slight diagonal)...that or it was a glitch :P

respawning upside down when you have pitch set to motion control and the controller is slightly tilted forwards or backwards (Happens on certain sections of tracks, like that long left bend before the overpass on Anulpha)

So thats why that happens......

I see your point about the glitches,I think we all know them well enough by now unfortunately.
The thing that stuck out though was that out of those 501 ZICO beaters, neozeo is actually 2 speed pads more than anybody else.

i counted 17 too, but i guess you could hit two speed pad that are next to each other with a perfect sideshift
you have like 3 -4 spot to achieve this:
-1st left (2)
-just behind the hill after the straight
-and after droping off the overpass, the last speed pads of the low-way

must be hard, but stil is possible, i think i've done this a few times

As long as he's only at the 257th position, I wouldn't worry about it :D
I don't think there are cheaters in HD (except for the PA...), and I hope it stays that way.

I hope your correct,I'd hate HD to start getting people hacking the game like they did on the PSP WO's,it would really spoil the whole thing for all concerned.

Or - even though it's very unlikely that he still beat the Time then - he was respawned at some point and used one Speed-Pad twice.

i'd be interested how you imagine ppl are hacking the game, presumably the poor player you mentioned above who deserves a witch hunt for hitting one more speed pad than you thought possible? It's really not nice to point fingers, especially without a trace of proof or good reason.

PS3 hasnt been hacked in all these years, there is no custom firmware, boot loaders, etc. I suppose this guy could be a genius haxx0r who managed to dump the game code, decompile it, insert code to give him more speed pads on the courses, recompile, reupload to hdd, get around any integrity issues PS3 might have with the new bastardised exe's and then make his run...

seems unlikely though.

Really we have a lot more to worry about with people like mad-ice, assayyeah and elhabib. I question whether anyone can be that fast and not be a machine ;-)

I wasn't on a witch hunt, nor pointing the finger at the hapless racer that has achieved the dubious honor of achieving the seemingly impossible.

I just went through the global records, presented the facts regarding the records data, found an anomaly and raised a question so that the forum could come up with a logical answer.

That's why I asked in my original post,Is there something I've missed?

We all know the PSP WO's were hacked,I was just raising topic of the possibility of somebody being able to hack WO HD.

It only takes the first person to achieve a hack before it becomes common knowledge among those who choose to use them, then they are all at it.

My 2 cents about that misterious speedpad :

There was a Kappa challenge years ago before launch of Wipeout Fusion : it was florion height zone mode challenge limited to zone 30 : when the game reached 30 you stopped and got the points : there was a world ranking : Oggob ( our famous Zone freak member :o ) did beat us all. Anyway we were trying to understand how points were calculated and hitting speed pads was one of the stuff to gives you more points ( hitting each one + bonus every 10 SP reached) : we knew exactly how many speed pads there was ( short or longest route) per lap and also where started the 1st SP bonus but i noticed multiple tap on airbrakes gives you sometimes 1 more speed pad than expected :O and earning the bonus point before the 'normal' way.

Maybe it's the case here
