You fall off much less than I did when I first tried it! There are two skill cuts you need to take, one after the big downward spiral, that branches off to the right, and a long narrow one on the left, after the big jump near the end. But I'm sure you'll be just fine with 2048 ;)

Are there better sites than Youtube to upload videos? I record at 720p with 60 FPS. Youtube downverts to 24 FPS which basically ruins the game. It does this to save space, but the stupid thing somehow manages to make the files bigger than when I uploaded them! It more than halves the quality while adding 50-100 extra megs!
Viemo's EULA prevents uploading footage of videogames so that's out of the question..
Cipher
16th May 2013, 01:06 AM
you'll want to convert the video files to the .H264 container using the mpeg1 codec, imo it's the best quality to size ratio ;)
and it works fine with youtube as well
Cipher
Nofew
16th May 2013, 09:48 AM
Cipher: I use H.264 with an MP4 container, x264 encoder. It is by far the best encoder available today for high-motion videos. I'm able to get output that's almost identical to input, even at 60 FPS, with a considerable reduction in size compared to other codecs that cut the framerate in half.
Regardless though, the problem isn't the filesize but the fact YouTube converts my videos upon receiving them. The output always comes out around 24 FPS, and unless you're watching at 60 FPS Zone mode just looks like a mess. It really makes a big difference. It just so happens that, in the process, YouTube defeats its own purpose by making the videos not only look worse, but have a larger filesize.
Plan B, I'll just torrent my replay. It seems like it's the only way to get things across the way I want to. Hopefully everyone has a client (http://download.deluge-torrent.org/windows/deluge-1.3.6-win32-setup.exe)! If not already obvious by the context of this post, the replay's of me playing Zone through Moa Therma.
EDIT: Okay, apparently people don't know how to do this. KAY! Listen up!
"Torrenting" is basically cutting a large file up into small pieces and then sending them out to numerous people. The idea is that the original creator can upload a single piece to many people, and that those people can then trade the pieces amongst themselves until they each have the completed file. This improves download rates for everyone and removes the requirement for the original uploader to have infinite bandwidth, or to even stay as part of the "swarm".
To begin, you must have a client. There's a link to "Deluge" above (click the word "Client"). Install it like you would any other program. Once it's installed, download the attached .torrent file (well, .torrent.zip since the forum is picky. Extract it from the .zip first.) and then click "Add Torrent" in Deluge. Find it, add it, say a place for it to download, done.
Now, there is one very important thing I need you guys to do so I don't pull my hair out: Once it's finished, keep Deluge running and do not move the file you've downloaded to a new folder! This will allow you to upload your own pieces and help new users download the file sooner, while also keeping me online. (I don't have unlimited upload bandwidth!) It'd help if you wrote a note to yourself to start it up every time Windows starts as well.
To prevent yourself from lagging (Deluge uses all available upload bandwidth by default), you can head over to http://www.speedtest.net/ . Run the test (wait for it to load, then hit "BEGIN TEST". Don't click an advertisement by mistake! If you download an .exe from speedtest.net, you are doing something wrong and should start over.) and look at the value it gives you for your upload. If it reads close to 2.00 or anywhere above that, subtract .4 and remember that number. If it's below, cut the number in half and remember that instead. After that, multiply the number you've got by 1,024. Next, go into Deluge, hold ctrl and hit P. Click "Bandwidth" in the window that comes up and type the number you got into "Maximum Upload Speed" (should be the bottom box). That should get rid of most lag, though in some extreme cases you may still need to exit Deluge to clear it up.
Finally, I should mention that this is legal, though generally torrenting is used for illegal purposes. The act of torrenting its self is always legal, but typically the content isn't. In this case however, the content is also legal, so we're all good. Don't panic if you Google "torrent" and get a ton of scary stuff. As long as you use common sense (or stick to only downloading stuff you find on this forum), you're probably never going to do anything illegal. (If it helps, think of torrenting as if it were a gun. It's legal to own one. Downloading illegal content is like murdering people with that gun, but you're not doing that in this case; you're just shooting paper targets down at a shooting range.)
EDIT2: Kay! Kay! Awesome! Turns out Daily Motion (http://www.dailymotion.com) allows people to download exactly what you uploaded, without any conversions applied. This seems easier than trying to get everyone on the same page, so! With that, here (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzxrhl_wipeout-tournament-may-16th-2013_videogames#.UZWmJLWPPng) is a link of a tournament I ran today and here (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzwqva_moatherma2_videogames#.UZWo5bWPPng) is the video above. Just scroll down and you'll see a section titled "Available encoding formats". Click "Download" next to "source" and enjoy! (You may want to hit ctrl S and let it fully save, then play it with your local media player rather than in-frame in a browser.)
EDIT3: So only I can see the links. Bummer. Oh well, at least I uploaded them somewhere easier to poke. ...Man, this post got big fast. And messy.
Cipher
17th May 2013, 06:27 AM
or you could simply upload it to mediafire in a rar? :p (rar should prevent mediafire from compressing it)
anyways, i'll torrent it when i get back from classes
you sure you're video isn't being interlaced?, cuz youtube doesn't like interlacing ;)
but i'll take a look at it later today and give it an upload to youtube if you allow me to (unlisted ofc)
Cipher
Nofew
17th May 2013, 02:00 PM
Mediafire won't compress it either way. Regardless, it's over 200 megs so that won't work unless I pay for it. ...Plus, why .rar? .7z's far better. Go hug 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/)!
It's not being interlaced, I just OCD over quality. See, most cameras record at either 24 or 30 FPS and most people don't notice the difference. Youtube downverts all videos to 24 FPS to save space, and runs them through a conversion process to try to make them smaller to stream better. The problem is, it doesn't check filesizes of the new, converted videos against the original upload.
I have actually gone and redownloaded videos I've uploaded. The converted videos are actually larger than my original upload, which is just plain *stupid*. My originals are at 60 FPS (and people definitely notice the difference between 24 and 60 FPS). They bring the quality down in an attempt to save space, but in reality it makes the video bigger, and then they serve the crappy bloated file anyway! Morons.
So yeah. I'm just gunna stick strictly to torrents for my Zone videos. Regular racing seems fine at 24 FPS, but Zone quickly starts getting confusing once I'm to Zen or so.
Cipher
17th May 2013, 09:42 PM
what's your capturing device? quality is.. well... not that great if we're analyzing HD quality, colors are slightly faded/desaturated as well as noise being in the vid, that could just be a capture setting though.
the vid also looks overly compressed, clusters of pixels are being assigned the same color creating the typical hard edges on color gradients, it's something youtube will do as well which is normal, but if the source is already like it, it's only going to get worse
i'll give it an upload to youtube and see what comes out of it
Cipher
EDIT; video quality looks approximately the same as the source to me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYivMZo57r8&feature=youtu.be
nice run btw :p
Nofew
18th May 2013, 12:55 AM
The capture quality is good. What I torrented is not the raw capture, that's still 2.5 gigs or so. That looks almost crystal clear (except for the white lines on the walls and floor of the track, that's the capture device's fault). What I uploaded is lesser quality, about the same as what Youtube has, but the point is the framerate.
Let me explain that. A movie doesn't actually move. What you actually see is a series of pictures shown to you at high speed, so fast that your brain just stitches them together and goes "whelp, that's gotta be motion".
The bare minimum for most people to switch from "this is a slideshow" mode to "this is motion" mode is 24 frames per second (FPS). 30 FPS is what most handheld cameras run at since the math's easier (most displays run at 60, 30 is half of 60, 24 is awkward and can cause noticeable jumps). WipEout renders at 60 FPS (well, 59.94, but it's close enough).
Instead of focusing on the quality of each image, relax your eyes and look at how smooth the motion is. Higher FPS means smoother, more realistic (or "dreamlike") motion, not a sharper image.
I'm complaining about Youtube because, even though the quality of each frame stays the same, it has to lop off over half the frames and even after doing that, after its own conversion process, the resulting file is actually larger than what I originally uploaded! Seriously, go find a program that lets you download Youtube videos and compare it yourself. It's just plain stupid! The quality overall is lower, but I'm talking about the quality of the motion, not the quality of the images
The capture device is an Elgato Game Capture HD. It's powered off of USB 2.0 and I think that's the main issue. 3.0 supplies more power and has a higher transfer rate. If you know of any alternatives let me know, but I will never, ever buy from Hauppauge again. Every device I've used from that company either has absolutely crappy capture output or the passthrough device is broken such that I either get a black screen or the picture's so distorted that it's unusable. I had an HD PVR 2 before the Elgato and that was just.. Eugh. Somehow it had hsync issues. I didn't even know that could happen.
Thanks, I did even better last night but I don't want to saturate the world with my uploads. <w< Gunna wait till I pass 100 to upload again. Believe me, I'll get there, I'm still getting about 3-8 zones further every night.
Cipher
18th May 2013, 01:39 AM
LOL, i know how a movie works, i'm a digital artist & programmer after all :p
so yeah....
anyway, i don't think the video or youtube is the problem, it plays silky smooth for me
There's 2 reasons why it could be choppy for you;
1) you're able to capture & process more frames per second than the average person
2) you're computer hardware, try playing the video on a totally different comp with most importantly, a different monitor
as for the elgato, yeah... not the greatest out there, especially the USB, it's too slow of a data transfer rate, need them PCI or thunderbolt rates
Personally i use a Matrox MXO2 Mini with the PCI-express card (for my MacBook Pro) and Final Cut 7
Though it is expensive, it is superb quality and is not limited to HDMI or playstation specific AV in (MXO2 has RCA, s-video, component & HDMI)
there's also BlackMagic which have some great hardware as well, though i chose for the matrox since it is real time and supports a metric ton video formats (among which 1080PsF)
Cipher

Is there anything out there that'll capture 1080p at 60 FPS and supports recording raw frames? You're talking to someone absolutely obsessed with quality and with more processing time and storage space than any sane person really needs. I have a desktop that has a 3 TB HDD in it so there should easily be enough space to hold all the data. Said desktop also has an i7-3930k (twelve logical cores) running at 4.4 ghz so I won't need to worry about transferring the footage to another system to encode things.
Installing anything from Adobe is a flat-out deal-breaker for me. The device must be able to support capturing in a format that's easy for other software (mainly ffmpeg) to understand.
With the Elgato I'm using my laptop (i7-3840qm running at ~3.6 ghz via USB 3.0 to an external 4TB HDD. I feel I should mention that it's got an overclocked 680m and a 120 hz screen, too.). Things would be simpler if I could stick with this, but if PCI's going to be the only way to get great footage I'll be happy anyway.
Also, isn't it illegal for hardware to ignore the PS3's "do not record" flag? I thought that's why so many capture devices come with those Component cable converters.
Cipher
18th May 2013, 06:24 AM
it is indeed illegal to record the PS3's HDMI signal (the device needs to be HDCP compliant (which the matrox is) but the ps3 doesn't even allow recording of game footage which is sad), but i'm not recording the PS3 over HDMI, nor am i converting the component to a digital signal, it comes in analog via component and goes out analog via component, but if i wish i could hook up HDMI devices as well (ones that allow recording obviously)
as for device suggestions, if you wan pure 1080p @60fps, you're going to need a big wallet, i do think nearly all are PCI though, some may be thunderbolt
but there's a couple;

"Ever tried the double with the turbo?" You mean in the middle section before the tunnel? Not really!
The run was on Patch 2.10. On the same day i was racing this track with my offline and online PS3.
With Patch 2.51 i ended up with 25.97 seconds (have it also captured on camera with the same method)
After this i turned directly to Patch 2.10 PS3 and within 1 hour i got 25.58 seconds. Crazy but true.
But i´m satisfied because the old records from other racers were also made with pre 2.50 patched Wipeout. So equal conditions ;)

just got the disk version of WO HD on the old patch and after 10 laps I have already beaten my SL on venom c.project(r) by 0.5s. Consider that I have spent 2 years chasing a WR on this track and I kinda feel like it has all been a waste. So, for those of you out there going for a WR, you HAVE TO buy the disk on the old patch and don't update.
I went from 15th to 8th in the world in a matter of minutes...

2.50/2.51 is slower because of the handling edit. The rest are all the same; anything else is in your head.
The exception is Zone mode as the dynamics were changed in a few patches previous to 2.50.
The ranking site contains times/scores from all patches. Personally I think it should be wiped/archived because the game is completely different now, but that would rely on everyone using only 2.51 from now on.

There was a race today on Sol2 forward during the Bling Brigade meet that I wish had been videoed [well, from where I was on the track at the time].
I was just turning around the first right after the start/finish line and somebody sent down a quake further up the track, as I'm veering left and nose up, I start looking up the hill towards the banked rights in the distance, it's then I see somebody's craft in a ball of flames travel from right to left in the sky and across the track from somewhere higher up.
It looked amazing, like somebody had just shot down a fighter plane.
I've never see that before in all the years I've been playing this game.

Stick with 100% motion sensitivity - 100% airbrake....:D
Cipher
9th August 2013, 04:40 PM
now correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't 100% airbrakes the least sensitive?
that's what i was told, and it definitly feels like it is :p
Cipher
Andrew-Swan
9th August 2013, 05:17 PM
100% airbrakes it's means modulated braking (not more rapid and aggressive braking) (thanks yeldar2097)
100% motion sensitive I like for be more reactive in the narrow sections (Modesto Heights or Umbermall final sector...) and you can minimize the use of airbrakes,
only acceleration sensitive it's good 10%.....
These are all personal opinions try this setting on time trial, see if you like it , bye friend !!!

100% airbrakes it's means more rapid and aggressive braking
Just to clarify:
100% Aibrake Sensitivity = Button must be pressed 100% of the way in order to achieve 100% braking.
50% Airbrake Sensitivity = Button must be pressed 50% of the way in order to achieve 100% braking.
10% Airbrake Sensitivity = Button must be pressed 10% of the way in order to achieve 100% braking.
So in other words, for more control over the % braking in-game relative to how far you push the trigger/button, go for a higher % sensitivity (80-100)
For more twitchy braking where brakes are either ~100% ON or 100% OFF, go for 10%.
Then there's everything else in between.
Generally the 'aggression' of your braking is to do with how hard you normally press the buttons. Some people are heavy-handed, others use a very delicate touch. You just have to balance it out with your flying style.
Personally, I don't find control over how much I airbrake useful in the slightest. I either want airbrakes or I don't. It's easier to tell where you're losing time, and to fix it.
You also don't have to worry about inconsistent Sideshift distances as much if you run a low %.
Yel flies 20% racing, 50% Zone :)
Cipher
19th August 2013, 08:54 PM
so it is the other way around right? Liverpool why you make this so confusing?! lol
10% = sharper turn with an equal amount of pressing compared to 100% air brakes
right?
(assuming a constant speed)
cuz you say button must be "depressed" and you're only confusing me more xD
it's funny, after nearly 3 years of wipeout i still haven't figured this out :p
Cipher
yeldar2097
19th August 2013, 09:45 PM

Apologies for the confusion.
Cipher
19th August 2013, 11:15 PM
so what i was told is correct after all lol, hey andrew, you're playing on the least sensitivity ;)
I tried it, but it didn't work for me, lowered it to 70, then 60 and am now at 40%, which seems to be quite nice, but i'll have to fly some more to be certain, maybe even drop lower ;)
Thx for the input Yeldar :)

No problem :+
It confused me for almost a year until Zone legend ProblemSolver explained it all to me. :sonar

20th August 2013, 01:40 AM
Just to clarify:
100% Aibrake Sensitivity = Button must be pressed 100% of the way in order to achieve 100% braking.
50% Airbrake Sensitivity = Button must be pressed 50% of the way in order to achieve 100% braking.
10% Airbrake Sensitivity = Button must be pressed 10% of the way in order to achieve 100% braking.
I'm not convinced that's the actual case... if you let me offer a different theory:
Using the accelerator as the example, think of each percentage point as a physical position that the actual X button or whichever button it is you use to accelerate is depressed, with 100% being depressed fully and 0% not depressed at all. Then, slightly alter your personal definition of sensitivity by thinking it's now meaning "to get the desired result you must input an accurate desired value", as opposed to "you only need to apply a small input to gain a large response", e.g. if you want 20% you better damn well put in 20% as opposed to you only needing to put in 1% to gain 100% response from something. You should now see that 100% means that the game will poll the accelerator button's physical depression as accurately as it can, meaning if it's pressed 89% the game will give you 89% thrust. Lowering the sensitivity breaks the levels at which the game measures the button's depression down from 100 levels to, at lowest, 10. e.g. holding the button 4% down at 10% sensitivity will round the value up to 10% thrust, and at 89% down, 90% thrust, etc.. So, that means you only have to hold the button >90% of the way down to achieve max. thrust, not only 10% of the way down as mentioned by yeldar. As the natural position people hold down the accelerator is greater than 90% of the polling range for "analogue control", there's no problem, and even if they aren't at max. thrust they get a larger, more desirable response from the accelerator that alleviates the concerns experienced while using 100% sensitivity.
So yeah, that's really the more accurate definition of sensitive anyway. Sorry if I'm being pedantic, but it's a sensitive topic, if you will ;P
p.s. Analogue buttons on console controllers were never a smart idea; I don't know how the idea never went away once no game ever made use of them to any remotely useful degree after the craze for analogue sticks turned into a generalised standard. Even conventional racing games have no room for them, really...
Cipher
20th August 2013, 01:55 AM
what's with you people and the word " depressed" wtf xD
and i do find it odd they would have 2 different schemes (acceleration vs air brakes)
I might do some video testing on anulpha (nice straight) at maximum speed of a ship and then using the air break on 100% and on 10% and watch the footage frame per frame afterwards ;)
Cipher
amplificated
20th August 2013, 05:24 PM
I just used the accelerator as the example, airbrakes would work the same way.
As for the use of the word depressed... see definitions 2, 3, and 5. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/depressed?s=t&path=/)
Cipher
20th August 2013, 09:42 PM

Yes amp I meant it more as an example/general rule. It's more complicated of course but I can't really be arsed to write down all the 'how a controller works' stuff. I let you do that bit :P
I have such a light touch if I run 100% accel sensitivity I average around 35-40% thrust in game, 100% brakes I fly pretty much in a straight line, even moreso when I was still using L2/R2 lol.
SO glad this game has % adjustment...even if it is a bit odd to figure out :D. Not so glad then handling is ruined. Still bitter about that, put in maybe 150 hours running tests/writing up a whole bunch really detailed stuff to help out, wasn't even acknowledged. **** you whoever at SL was responsible for ignoring me or the dick on the phone treating me like some random QQ fanboy, I actually knew what I was talking about with this game. Go for it dude :+ Didn't even realise I'd done a Rapier SL on TDRR, hate that track almost as much as Talon's Snoozefest (f) :lol
Happy flying :)
After talking about it and watching some old videos of mine, I'm missing my game a lot and until now haven't been able to play it because of one retarded dev decision.
Thinking about it, would people have a problem with it if I posted videos PRE 2.51? I have reliable internet connection now so I can re-download HD no problem.
Only reason I ask is because I don't really like to post unless I've beaten a PB, but in order to do that I need to fly on the now defunct pre 2.51 patch, which might be confusing
for people since it's a completely different game and I don't want to fool people into thinking certain things are possible when they're not.
I suppose I could make a special note next to each one?

I've always boosted up the hill. Sod all that new fangled boosting at a weird angle. Apart from that I have no idea. I'm not even convinced I did any of the weird bouncing BRs as I can't be arsed with them above flash normally.

Also I'm seeing a lot of direct feed videos, much nicer looking than the crap I used to put out. Cheapest way of recording HD directly anyone?

^hd pvr is probably your best bet for the PS3, the quality isn't optimal, but that doesn't really matter if your sole purpose is to upload to youtube (where it'll be fine)
there's several versions of em, which you can compare over here; http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Gaming-Definition-Capture-Passthrough/dp/B008ZT8QKO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1377445555&sr=1-1&keywords=Hauppauge+HD+PVR+2
(scroll down to the table thingy and see what fits your requirements ;) )
personally i use a matrox mxo2 mini which is quite expensive, but gives you supreme quality and realtime playback on the computer (didn't have a tv before, so i played on my comp), it also allows you to edit in video effects in realtime, but yeah… that's probably way more than you need :p

lol, it's a 1 time investment and you can use it for multiple things (get your classic old camcorder cassettes/ LPs/... digitalised) but yeah they're quite expensive, camera phone will do :p
on an unrelated note, if you remember, what was your technique on talons reverse? using my own i got to 22.47 today (after more than 500 laps total)
is it the the usual boost and roll before the mag strip with nice and tight lines?

there's a site for that stuff! damn! shoulda checked that out way earlier before spending so much time on it :p

EDIT; well…. there's no way in hell that i'm going to pull off that br…
i'll just stick to my own method (br before the mag strip, then boost br after the magstrip), pretty sure if i could pull of that mini one i'd be settled.. but… that's never gunna happen xD
Cipher
yeldar2097
25th August 2013, 11:39 PM
For reference my time was achieved with the same technique as Leung but without the BR at the end.
There is also a BR over the start/finish line but at Phantom 9/10 times it it slower than a perfect line.
As far as I know, boosting before the mag strip is the fastest single lap technique at all speed classes for TJR.
Timing and pitch are key. There is a difference of nearly 0.3s (Phantom) between an OK boost and a near-ideal boost here.

Not gonna lie that 4th BR came about completely by chance, pot luck, only done it a handful of times before.
This was my first set of laps since redownloading so I was just testing the water trying to remember what's what. I hate the bounce on that last BR so unpredictable
This time can definitely be beaten with 3BRs along the open section instead of 4 at any rate.
In my travels I managed a BR on the last corner a few times which is definitely faster but I wasn't confident enough to do it on this lap. Might boot up the PS3 his afternoon if I'm about, any requests?

You can squeeze in an extra barrel roll side shifting off the end of the final corner, from the outside (where the two adjacent boost pads are). Make the roll and land on the pad in front on the inside. It should just be enough to pull in a sub 22.
Also, dipping the nose and raising it for the boost start may give enough air for another BR, however it's difficult to do cleanly what with the first corner right ahead. It won't cut much time, but hey SL's are about cutting down all the time so give it a shot.
Both of these BR's work on rapier class. The first BR I mentioned definitely works on Phantom. You can see in your video how much air you're getting coming out of that final corner!
Cipher
3rd September 2013, 11:59 PM
"much air", much is a big word there xD, that famous barrel roll, i tried it multiple times, but i can't seem to be able to pull it off, i'll give it some more practice tomorrow ;)
i tried rolling over the start/finish but that tended to mess up my racing into the first corner, so dropped that
as for the dipping, i'll try that for both the boost roll & that mini roll, although motion sensitivity has such a huge input latency =/
thx for the feedback :)

Welcome to the world of PAIN that was commonly known as Playstation Thumb, pre sticks ;) , those were the days, practice practice practice with tortuously long loading times between and a sore thumb for your trouble and no trophies.:eek [making me all nostalgic]
Pre R2L2 as well.
You should do a search in the 2097 section, or possibly even the WO3 section, under the name Asayyeah [A Legend among Legends in the Wipeout world] for his shift air braking technique, which eventually became side shifting in PURE and PULSE.
This will make your times quite a bit better for both 2097 and WO3/WO3SE.
Actually that would be a awesome challenge for those pilots under 25, 30 even.

Get a hold of the old games and try and beat the old records, see how good you are without the benefit of barrel rolls, or navigate them at all without dying.
You needed very tight lines and the ability to nose up/down at the correct place to get fast times on the old games, something that has been lost along the way with newer Wipeouts.

as for 2097, there's apparently a couple of tracks i haven't raced, or can't remember, don't know if i ever completed it, i'll have to check, although i'm having problems hooking it up to my matrox, my mxo2 doesn't like the source input that much, it records fine but distorts and jumps up and down on the tv =/, playstation menu itself works fine, which is odd, something i'm troubleshooting with matrox support, so still might take some time before i get 2097 footage up, i do wonder how hellfire recorded his, guessing emulator, but not sure
Also been trying to get ahold of the other ones, but amazon and most others don't ship to my place -_-
And the d-pad, yeah, i noticed, thumb was hurting after 2 hours :p although i have one of the news PS1 controllers, so it's slightly softer, but still painful xD
Switching back and forth between HD and 2097 is a nightmare as well LOL just as you get used to the d-pad, u get to fly that freaggin stick again and the other way around
Not having too much problems with racing in 2097 though, just on phantom i'm struggling, but only been back in it for a day or so, getting 1st place isn't as easy as HD though, feels like each position has a specific time linked to it rather than an actual AI race :p

Know what stinks, regardless of the video hosting service? They convert the videos you upload (presumably in an attempt to save bandwidth), and they always end up making them bigger and lower-quality! Why?! x.x... I don't understand how I can upload a 160 meg file, 720p at 60 FPS, and when I redownload it it's like 500 megs at 25 FPS with crummy quality. (Youtube does this: DailyMotion at least gets it down to about 40 megs, though it still looks crummy.) Is there any service out there that'll let me upload videos without having them convert it?
Cipher

She* :p
And yeah, saw her fly off, you got lucky :D
and i highly doubt youtube would convert it into something bigger, my 720p vids end up being 60 megs in size where they start @ 700megs ^^
it's normal for them to re-convert it to save space though, can't waste any disk space for the few people that'll watch the video, the big tubers are a different story
Wipeout isn't the best game to have it's video footage compressed though, especially not at phantom since the perspective and therefor the pixel colour values change way more often than a slower paced game ;)

With 2097 you had to beat the Phantom challenge to open up the last two tracks, these last two tracks are only available to be race at Phantom speed.
As for your problem getting stuff shipped to Belgium, seems rather strange, I can buy stuff from anywhere around the world , which I often do, and I never have any problems.
Do the French guys at Wipeout Arena have problems getting stuff shipped to France? I doubt it.
PM me with what you are having trouble getting hold of [I'm guessing WO3SE would be one, and maybe a NEGCON Controller, I'll try and sort something out, depends what you want, shouldn't be difficult, it depends if you need some weird regional version of a game, that would be the biggest hurdle]
As for the problem recording 2097, it might be that you have set recording at the wrong aspect ratio, 2097's natural aspect ratio is 4:3., I think your card might be trying to convert the format differences on the fly, hence the jumping.
It wasn't until WO3 that the option to play in the "Widescreen" 16:9 format became available
Cipher
20th September 2013, 10:16 AM
stuff from the UK won't ship to me for some reason, despite it being only a small pond (the ocean) away lol
Apparently you can play PS1 games on the PS3, though for some reason my version of 2097 won't work -_- (or i'm doing it wrong), found a place that apparently sells(and ships to my place!) wipeout 2097 new, although i'm very skeptical about it, but going to buy it either way
I'll keep your offer for when i might buy wo3 though ^^
And i troubleshooted with matrox, concluding that they do not support non-video standards (although ps1 pal is 576i (a standard), wipeout 2097 doesn't run at this resolution), although i'm hoping to bypass this problem by playing it on the ps3
As for completing 2097, i have, apparently, gold medals everywhere, so i must've completed it after all ^^

If the game [2097] allows you to race on the first tracks at Phantom speed using Piranha, then yes you have unlocked everything.
Only the original FAT 60GB and 20GB PAL model PS3's were backward compatible with PS1 & PS2 discs, also the NTSC 80GB model in the USA, you can check the back of your PS3 for the model number against those listed at this site to see if it is BC, I somehow doubt it, most have already died of YLOD.
The PS3's system software still shows the same options for backward capability as the original models, which is why a LOT of people have been confused even though no PS3 made after Nov 2007 has been able to do it.
http://www.rockfordpcrepair.com/ps3backwardscompatiblechart.htm
From reading the site below on capturing directly from the PS1, it says PS1 games ran anywhere between 240 and 480 horizontal lines, and that not all capture cards can accept resolutions below 480.
I know the PS1 only had composite out, I use to use a old TV card for a PC that had composite in to do that for friends wanting old video tapes burnt to DVD.

As for the recording, yeah, read that wipeout runs @ 320x240 @ 50i, but i'm not sure, and if it is, i won't be able to record it properly via the ps1, so i'm crossing fingers hoping the ps3 will upscale it to a standard video format supported by my, mxo2

Not sure what the ultimate resolution the TV is getting.
I have the PS3 in Game settings on PS Upscaler = Full Screen, Smoothing = ON.
It takes up around 85% of a 16:9 ratio 46" Sony 3D TV.
As I have HDMI sync switched on with all my components [It means I only have to press the PS button on my controller and it turns on the PS3, TV and surround amp all at once 8), if I try to change TV settings using the TV's remote while playing 2097 it's like pressing the PS button on the controller, the quit game etc options come up.
It seems upscaler is equivalent to Zooming in the picture, without it 2097 appears at 4:3 ratio.
I'm not sure what the PS3 is upscaling to, as my surround amp only upscales signals received from component video or less, not HDMI, so there is no report I can read from the amp
It's playable, but even with smoothing looks pixilated, I reckon it's because of the HD screen, when 2097 was released your average TV had 576i max lines so hid most of this pixilation.
It's a trade off, don't upscale and have a smaller 4:3 ratio picture & less definition/less pixilation, or upscale and have a bigger 16:9 picture / more obvious pixilation
I went big, surprise.
Still a GREAT game

@blackwiggle sweet setup, mine's a mess and isn't as simple as pressing a button :p
the ps3's hooked up via component to the matrox (hdmi doesn't record, because HDCP…)the matrox is connect to my tv with component as well as with my desktop via PCIe, but before i get image on tv, i have to launch up final cut studio on the desktop, in final cut studio, initialise log and capture, which will give me image on the tv, and then i still have to enable previewing of audio, so that i have audio, then i can play ^^ ( with a little bit of latency, but i can live with it)
as for 2097 on the PS3, well i ordered my supposedly "new" copy of 2097 via amazon and hope it'll output as a standard format, otherwise no recording 2097 for me, unless emulator as yeldar said
@yeldar which emulator are you using? psx? i've thought about that as well, but i'm a nostalgic bastard and would love to play it on the console itself and if it works on the PS3, you got your wipeout friends around :)

I hope Amazon send you the PAL version, not the NTSC one.
I might look into emulation at a later date, as I have other projects on the go [my place looks like a small construction site ATM ]
I've sort of fallen in love with Intel's on board graphics, you can do most things without the need of the complications of a graphics card in your PC now days, but Emulation would not be one of these.

it's amazon.de, so i'm guessing it'll be (also says pal on the image, but that's not really a point of reference)
And eww at integrated graphics, got an lga 2011 socket CPU (3930k), so no intel graphics for me, prefer to leave that stuff to my video card (GTX 680), keeps my CPU way cooler having it separated :)
Also, to keep it slightly on topic :p

@yeldar which emulator are you using?
I use ePSXe on my laptop with HDMI to TV. I use PS3 controllers so it's exactly the same as using my PS3 to play, but looks much better (1080, Antialiasing, etc etc.... there's lots you can change)....and you can play online :)

Scar, Cipher just please grow up and act like men, not like spoiled brats that want to cry and moan all the time. Just race and have some fun getting your asses whipped by someone new like me. Or be like those angry gamers on Youtube.

@KronicReaper - Where is this attitude coming from? I am seeing another side of you that I honestly did not expect. This is a good humored thread. Please do not come and spoil it with your rude, arrogant attitude. If you want to share videos that is fine, but do not come here to post unwanted false statements about other pilots or I will attempt to have you removed from the forum.
Thanks,

and didn't know you could side shift roll that first downslope
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember UberR Rapier correctly, if you skip the sideshift and simply nose up it's a double barrel roll opportunity.
That said for online racing if you are below 30% it's preferable to do the sideshift + BR because it is faster than single BR with no sideshift.
I wouldn't advise doing a BR there at less than 16% here though, because the upcoming chicane can yield small errors from time to time...or more likely a lapped bomb to avoid :blarg.
:)
Anyway, I am one of those angry gamers on youtube so the slot is taken! 3min27 :P

Wow, you got 2097 Cipher!? When there's a big Wipeoutzone meeting in a distant future, we should play against each other in split screen mode. :D This game was really great.
Btw. I enjoyed all videos in this thread. Go on with this good work @all. ;)

haha feydius, i've had it for a long time, just bought it again because my old disc didn't want to work on the PS3, i'll need to practice a lot to get back into it though, but hell i love it! the physics are great, super drifty :D
as for the meeting, depends when & where it'll be, but i think i'd actually like going to one of those ^^

You did a big mistake Cipher, you don't mess with a two time Wipeout HD champion. He did the Wipeout HD CUP, Rebirth, and Omnium. I raced onlykpop and I respected the man and his skills. Kpop will get his revenge one day and TUSK_one will see it through.

P.S. I have seen you playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on your youtube. That is one of my favorite games! Unfortunately I dont have it with me atm, but would you like to play sometime when I get it back? I have been playing Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors Edge for sometime now. Do you have that game as well?

YouTube won't let me comment? So I write it here.
For reference, in the top 5 records, only SaturnReturn used this BR (in the tunnel like cipher say).
Instead I would suggest:
SS left into first corner
SS right during the boost
Nose-down + SS right on the tunnel speedpad
Take a wider line through hairpin (swing out to the left before turning right)
Nose-down before final BR and SS left when you land (not before the BR as you do)
These are more effective (and easier) ways of getting a faster time. If you don't understand any of what I've written (hard to explain sometimes), I have a video with the same technique on my channel :).
Even with the tunnel BR the line must be absolutely optimum to be faster than nose-down + SS right. Only worth it for Speed Lap or if you don't suck at BR like me and can do it 5x in a row WITH a perfect line (about 0.8 - 1.0s available here with 5).
Good job, nice to see perfect laps on CP Rev Phantom :+. Good to see Phantom :D
