I'm with you on Modesto, elHabib, can't get enough of it!

Oh, by the way, this is slightly off-topic, but if any of you ever wondered what difficult tracks like Sebenco or Chenghou would look like if you ever reached supersonic, do a lot of 0.3 zone boosts in a novice zone battle on those tracks with the target set to 55... eventually you'll get the supersonic colour scheme. Just checked Ubermall and all I can say is: WOW! :eek

Wish I could take a picture of it. :(

Oh you got to zone 75 on PT. :+

Nice shot, but the low resolution kills it somehow. Why not in 1080p or at least 720p?

They're all in 1080 other than the last 2 which are 720.

Dumb question, but I've just got to know. How do you guys get these pictures off of your PS3s and onto your PCs? And in such high res? I'd love to start contributing. But I can't seem to get over this little bump.

Darkdrium777
15th August 2009, 06:08 AM
Use a USB flash drive. Plug it into your PS3, hover in the menu over the pictures you want to upload, press triangle and press Copy (Or just use the Copy Multiple option, faily straightforward too)
Plug the flash drive into your PC, the pictures are in the PICTURE folder. Upload them to an image hoster like imageshack or imagehost, and post the links here.

Okay, thank you DD777,

Here's the ones I thought were best. I'll keep it short n' simple. I like to run a tidy ship.

try again after a false start

Had a break from the Pure 4 and went back to reverse Vineta K to try and get Supersonic.

After a lot of tries managed to get there.

Thats my 9th track at Supersonic

Too bad the resolution isn't higher (I don't understand why the photos are in the same resolution as it is rendered on-screen since it as been confirmed by SL staff that the game is rendered internally at 1080p than downscaled ...

Starting to upload my latest. Here's one I really feel captures Auricom's better side. (720p)

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2589/wohd20090901045133.jpg

Piranha fans out there. I really like this one.

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/6937/wohd20090902031527.jpg

These next few photographs are apart of what I've just started calling the "rainbow gallery," you be the judge.

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5756/wohd20090902034225.jpg - Rainbow Icaras
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8829/wohd20090902034415.jpg - Rainbow Assegai
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4238/wohd20090902034620.jpg - Rainbow AGS (Photographer's commentary: I went about this picture slightly different than the rest of those in the rainbow gallery. I had Vart, and Vart's likenesses in mind for this capture. So I hope you enjoy! )
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6408/wohd20090902034929.jpg - Rainbow RobotMan (Photographer's Commentary: this was the epicenter of the rainbow gallery, which was directly where a bomb had went off. I have no idea what ship that is, this was the best I could see. And it looks like one of those hoverbike stormtroopers from Return of the Jedi)
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/6013/wohd20090902035256.jpg - Rainbow Gearworks (Another ship I don't know what was)

And that concludes the Rainbow Gallery. This last one is my favorite so far. It's just so blue. Auricom fans should like this one.

The red Piranha one looks like a concept render! :o

But please upload your pictures elsewhere than on imageshack, it destroys the quality. Also remember to use antialiasing when taking pictures (a blur filter at 0% will do the trick)

You have to admit, watching Auricom take three rockets and lose control before hurtling toward you can be arresting. It's one of those photos where you think, "well that photographer's dead."

Here are some more, while we wait for the servers to come back up! The first one is my Mac Mini's desktop background currently.

Dude, you got great sense of camerawork directing. Are you actually a real-life photographer? :)

I'd like to know your point of view on those :D
I really appreciate that, since I know you work in graphic design. Makes me think I could have a real chance. :)

I took a photography course in high school and worked on the school newspaper. The one piece of advice that really influenced me, though, was something the photography editor told me. Divide the image up into 4 or 9 equal squares and look at each one individually. Is there something interesting going on in each area? Although not a perfect guide to the perfect photo, it's a good rule of thumb, at least for journalistic photography.

So, when I take Wipeout photos, I try to look for things happening in each area. There might be a winding side to the track in one area and a ship's direction of motion in another, with the sun and clouds in another area, and the winding track going in the other direction in yet another area. I'm not necessarily trying to load up to image or make it complicated, or even make it look "good" primarily, but first and foremost make it interesting.

I like these the best. There is something interesting to look at in several parts of the image, whereas in the others you left some corners or a whole side of the image empty. Also, I'm not a fan of speed blur. In sports photography it's a huge no-no. Besides it feels like everything is blurring by me during the game already.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/Kyonshi_77/WipEout%20HD%20Gallery/wohd_20090725_235540.jpg
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/Kyonshi_77/WipEout%20HD%20Gallery/wohd_20090726_024620.jpg
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/Kyonshi_77/WipEout%20HD%20Gallery/wohd_20090726_034620.jpg
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/Kyonshi_77/WipEout%20HD%20Gallery/wohd_20090809_131253.jpg

This one looks interesting to me, though, because the explosion is sending force out to all corners and sides of the image, causing the eyes to scan all all over the place. The Feisar paint job already looked baked anyway, so it also looks appropriate. :)
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/Kyonshi_77/WipEout%20HD%20Gallery/wohd_13.jpg

I guess I have more of a journalistic approach than an artistic one. I also have a very spatial mind, so I split the image up into cubes and look for lines of force, even in stationary objects. It may be that the others have artistic qualities I can't see.

It's always fun to look at Wipeout photos. Thanks again!

Oh wow! That's the same turn, too. Different but similar-looking zone transition. Good find. Very interesting.

Sometimes I spend five minutes or more just panning the camera around and looking at a zone transition, then when I go back to the race and it seems all the more surreal, like I just jumped into a painting.

Detonator is amazing. All those lines and particles and lines of particles. Find a good shot, frame it right, something that'd look nice as a 2D image, and then move the camera a little bit and it comes to life. The metropolitan tracks look more like a real present-day city at night. So beautiful.

Does the latest version of Picasa still create some giant multi-gigabyte index the way it used to a few years ago?

Koleax
24th November 2009, 03:47 AM
I'm not sure, but you don't have to use the actual program to upload photos to picasaweb.

Effedieffe, i really appreciate that Harimau missile on AP (http://picasaweb.google.com/effedieffe/WipEout#5407270977932226290). I don't yet have a shot in my collection where the lightning bolts stretch out that far and I notice the debris against the night sky sort looks like stars, which really ought to be visible in the AP sky.

Phaeton_pl, those upside down shots look fun, and I might use the pre-magstrip Metropia Reverse pic (http://picasaweb.google.pl/phaetonPL/WIPEOUTHD#5407052454923496754) as a wallpaper. That's a really good shot on one of my favorite tracks.

Rezatron, I can't help but think what's on the other side of that hallway. :P

I still don't understand this comment. I don't use the post attachment feature because it won't take the full resolution images and I don't know what's happening in six months.

All of the photos in this post so far have been edited in Photoshop to remove a uniformly red "bug frame" that resulted from the zone transition photography bug mentioned earlier in this thread. All I did was adjust the levels, but the colors may not accurately represent gameplay.

I've been intentionally reproducing the bug and experimenting with it to produce interesting effects. I'll post more about that soon in another thread, but here are some interesting looking photos I took while messing around that I might keep for desktops or later editing. Just to be clear, these photos are unedited and do not have post-processing effects.

Who would of thought that SL would go to such extremes of detail on the rockets, considering it's not something you are going to see in normal gameplay.

I think that's a first,I can't remember ever seeing that before.

I hope that level of detail isn't present during the actual game. There is no meaning in that elsewhere photo mode (like level of details, polygones and textures don't need to be awesome when objects are far away and so tiny on the screen)

Koleax
7th December 2009, 03:27 PM
There's a much higher level of detail on the little lights on the track in Vineta K.

The game has a technology where it can lower the horizontal screen resolution while rendering especially complex frames. The vertical resolution will always be 1080 (so they can get away with saying it's always 1080p) but they can make the horizontal resolution much lower than standard full 1080p.

Still doesn't get them a constant 60 fps, especially in Fury.

Vineta is the perfect track to show the awesomeness of graphic quality in W HD. When I turned the game for the first time and saw lightning and bump-mapping on track floor textures (still remembering the graphics in PSP version), I finally felt that this is real next-gen :)

It definitely does.

If it wasn't done intentionally. ;) It isn't that unusual for the internet, as you
know. And some people like to bother grammar 'whores'.

Look at this; http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com.

We have something similar for the german language; http://www.seitseid.de
(seit - since, seid - [you] are). Some people can't differentiate (t/d), but some
people do intentionally write the given words wrong to force someone to refer to
http://www.seitseid.de. In some german forums a lot of things are written
wrong intentionally to 'annoy' the public. For example, an extreme case is
given in the following quote;

yo keine anunk was man hir so schreiben also schreibe ich ersmal

blog

ps: *namezensiert*is homoseksuell
pps: harbe ich aus verlesslicher kwuelle gehört !

(Uhh, you can't read german? Too bad.)

Well, virtually every second word is wrong xD, but one can understand just
everything. It's funny.

Edit: For those who understand german, more fun over here;

If it wasn't done intentionally. ;) It isn't that unusual for the internet, as you
know. And some people like to bother grammar 'whores'.

But that is the question and point, isn't it. <question mark intentionally not used] In my experience of English language errors in spelling and grammar, these errors are nearly always a result of unintended mistakes, either through ignorance of the correct form or by typographical errors left in place through laziness in proofreading and correction. I comment on such errors rarely, partly because some of the people who make these mistakes are friends whose virtues much outweigh such weaknesses. Such errors are so common that pointing out the mistakes would absorb more time than I have to give relative to the value of doing it. Sometimes I will note such errors when they're made by people who seem to lack the ability to self-criticise, in another word, egoists.

I do like precision and accuracy in the use of language because that avoids misunderstandings, conveys clearly what it actually meant, avoids damaging mistakes, whether in pharmaceutical usage or diplomacy, or in any of many areas of human interaction with other humans or dangerous devices. Accuracy of language use is too often considered entirely unimportant just because in some unimportant situations, it makes little difference, but in many cases, accuracy is highly important, sometimes to the point of life-or-death. In this case in this thread, in that post, it didn't make a damned bit of difference except to make a little gadfly bite in someone's ego. We can all profit occasionally from those little bites to our own sense of ourselves. I've certainly benefitted from some of those, gotten a blessed touch of humility.

Same over here. But it really depends on the subject. Accuracy increases /
decreases with the subject covered. However, any non-technical language
suffers from a lack of uniqueness. Some phrases depend on a context
like nothing else. You can go wrong even with the right spelling and / or
grammar in place. Despite I like accuracy in any form, I think that a perfect
grammar / spelling isn't the most important thing, the context is. Things
are totally different for technical languages, of course.

Cool. Does anyone know what compression level photo mode uses when saving JPEGs? It's hard to tell whether a lower quality image is due to JPEG artifacts, horizontal resolution dropping, or both.

Edit: I just saw your post in the bug thread (http://wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=163849&postcount=124), PS. You're right there has to be a better compression level, preferably lossless.

Pretty certain that shortcut is not possible on CP. It will just transport you back on the track, like how it would on Sol 2.

Good Moa pic. For some reason I never stopped to photograph the loop on a reverse course, so it looks nice and different to me.

@Koleax: Seem like the compression level is about 85% (100% = no compression).
I think it was done that way so that you could send taken images via an PM over
the PSN, which had a 1MB size limitation for an attachement. The current limit
is about 4MB. Personally, I wanna have an 1:1 framebuffer grab.

Another cool thing would be if we were able to assign a button as a snapshot
button to quickly take images during a race without interrupting it. Pretty cool
for online races! :nod :g :+ It wouldn't take much to implement it, but it might
be a bit more difficult to prevent the game from shuttering during the grab.

@kaori: The compression level of your images do hurt my eyes. :blarg

Interesting, though I wonder how many people actually share Wipeout HD photos over PSN!

Even better would be a replay feature. In Forza Motorspot 2 you can go through a replay of your entire race frame by frame and move the camera around at any angle, zoom, effects, everything. You can even do this with replays downloaded from the leaderboards.

If SL is going to continue in its design philosophy of complexity and detail, I hope they'll at least have a save replay feature in the next game so that you can actually have the leisure to enjoy all that detail.

SaturnReturn

I've had quite a few HD photos over PSN. Nice pictures are always gratefully received...hint hint.

A reply feature would be great. It would certainly be good for uploading videos of online tournaments to capture more of the action, rather than just one person's POV. It would be a lot less costly too, as those of us who are keen wouldn't have to purchase cameras or PVRs just to achieve the results we want.

If anyone wants to take any of the images and maybe blow them up and touch them up in photoshop to get something better then feel free, if that's the kind of thing people can do in photoshop.

Kyonshi
21st February 2010, 12:40 AM
Unfortunately, you can't upgrade the quality of a picture with a given native resolution. The only way a picture's resolution can be improved is adjusting the settings of the source taking the picture. Otherwise, you can only do some "post-processing" effects that would give the illusion the picture is better, and even there, the quality won't be that much improved to attain satisfying standards.

Or, you can scale down the size of the picture to compress the resolution and give a cleaner effect. But we don't really want a tiny pic either :lol

SaturnReturn
21st February 2010, 12:59 AM
Yeah, I guess by touch them up I just meant the post-processing thing (super ignorant about this stuff). I know there's now way to introduce detail that isn't there like they do in the movies. Unless you use magic...anyone?

@Nutcase The links don't seem to work... though I checked your pics out via your profile. Some coold stuff. :D

@ONlock... wow, wasn't that a pain in the butt to get the camera angled right? That looks awesome in 3D! Is there a bigger version of it? ^^

Darkdrium777
23rd August 2010, 07:22 AM
How does this crossing your eyes work. I can never do it. I try my hardest but can't find the sweet spot. Where should I focus on the pictures?

Woopzilla
23rd August 2010, 09:31 AM
Basically, if you cross your eyes far enough you should see the image twice with a gap between them. Then slowly err... uncross(?) your eyes until the right half and left half of both images overlap one another near perfectly (so it's 3 halves instead of the original 4 now) then you just need to hold them like that and focus on a spot in the merged halves. Then your brain just suddenly does its thing and you'll have no problems looking at rest of the picture or even 'holding' the picture halves together, you'll nearly forget you're actually cross-eyed.

Darkdrium, I posted a video here (http://wipeoutzone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=179899&postcount=182) where it's explained pretty well :)

The Screenshot is awesome – I will try that, too :)

ONlock, that's fantastic - I was looking for about 10 seconds going "well I guess it kind of works" and then my eyes locked and it was incredible.

http://bildr.no/thumb/708371.jpeg (http://bildr.no/view/708371)

Here's a tip to get the 3D effect to work:

First sit at your normal distance to the monitor, then cross your eyes. If you can't focus, it's probably because you are sitting to close. Try to gradually move away from the monitor until your eyes can focus, suddenly your eyes will just lock on, and the 3D effect works.

Making the pictures is pretty basic.

First I find a scenery that i like, then I snap one picture, when the image is saved to my HDD, I simply hold down "square" and use the left analog sitck to slightly pan the image to the left to simulate your left eye. So first I take a snapshot for my right eye, then for my left.

Afterwards I use a program called "stphmkre", which you can download here:http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/file/stphmkre431.zip

Windows will not recognize it as a safe program, but it is, I swear on my honor.

When you get in on the program, click "file", then "Open left/right images", then you first choose your right eye picture file, Click "open", then choose your left eye picture file, and click open. now both pictures are loaded in the program, and you can now get the 3D effect if you have done eveything correctly. To begin with I sometimes loaded the left eye picture in first, and then my right eye pic. You should notice if you have done it incorrectly.

Now you only have to click "file" once again, and choose "Save stereo image", and that should be it.

The program can make red and cyan 3D also. But I havent tried that yet. But I don't like the colors of that technique anyway.

Good luck. Hope you enjoy.

Is this like those magic eye puzzles? I can't do these and could never do magic eye either. But I always assumed my magic-eye fail was something to do with the whole colourblind thing, and assume it still is.

When going cross-eyed, are we supposed to look at just one of the pictures or the center of the two? I think if I look at just one I kind of get something, but still clearly not quite there. Is it also impossible for people with glasses to do this or not?

Finally, yes my eyes are f'd up.:P

when i cross my eyes i just get a horrible mess. :lol am i crossing them too much?

k been attempting this a bitmore and can get a third image. but when i try to focus on it my eyes seem to automatically uncross :lol

I can do magic eye no problem because you just gaze beyond the picture, relaxing your eyes. But this method seems to strain your eyes. Now I have a splitting headache and blurry vision. Doesn't mean I won't keep trying though!

Once you get it, it's pretty easy to do :)
I've watched quite a few of those pictures in the last days and it gets more and more comfortable – the focusing often works directly with the first try and it becomes less hard to the eyes … as if the eye muscles get used to it.

Just don't give up: Practice makes perfect :)

Nope, still can't do it. I take out my finger and my eyes uncross immediately. And the 3D effect if there is one is kind of lost with a giant sausage in the middle. :g

I took nearly 50 photos for the recent photo competition, and while I think I ended up submitting my best photo, that came late in the experience and I was thinking it was going to be pretty tough to choose between some of the photos I had before that; so I'll try to get around and post those potentials up here over the weekend or so.

The competition I think still has one open day left for submissions... there are a lot of good photos in this thread from people who haven't done so AFAIK.

I've almost never used the photo feature before, but it turned out to be an interesting exercise once you find an interesting shot and was pretty fun... especially with the allure of a prize pool :P Even if I don't win anything, it was decent fun.

@the 3D effect:
I think I need a focal point to merge images together, and full screen helps - which is really hard to do with... 2 full screen images. I could make out the 3D picture in the video Sausehuhn linked to, but not ONlock's pictures :(

To tell you the truth, I have not played Wipeout HD much since the convention in Paris.

As I already have four of the five games offered as part of Sony's "Welcome Back" gifts, I decided to go for Wipeout (I have the disc version since before). For me, Wipeout is a game to be played sporadically, every now and then, and it really suits me not to have to fetch the disc in order to play a couple of races.

The save files are not compatible between the two versions, so I had to start over. The last two days I have played through the grids on elite again. Quite fun!

Today I had a little photo session with the Mirage on Metropia.

Cheers!

a while back i noticed the 'secret' zone theme (mach2 or hypersonic) in zone battle mode. so i decided to discover the truth in zone mode :D

i deleted my wipEout HD fury game from the HDD. then downloaded the wipEout HD demo (ver.1.25) and activated the full game unlock. after game start-up i cancelled the update and headed for zone mode anulpha fwd. i used the 'zone glitch' to get as far as possible (no worries, i used my 'offline only' account and won't upload the score!).

unfortunately i did it not the 'right' way, so after 1842 zones my ship died, still supersonic :(
i'll have another go at it, to reach at least the 3336 possible zones to clarify, if there's this 'hidden' zone out there.
i want to KNOW it, lol

i added some pictures i took during this silly sessions ;)
