Painted sketches and questions about tablets

I have been painting some graphite drawn sketches with photopaint, the mouse is a bit odd for the task (feels like painting with a bar of soap) and im contemplating buying a tablet for my hobby, from what i have gathered, the wacom intuos3 line seems to be great, im eyeballing a 6"x8" sized one, if anyone that uses these things have any experience to share i will appreciate it, i saw a couple of pics here from the pure team where they used what seemed to be cintiq tablets but i might be wrong, also i cant afford cintiq :P

as useful info i use 2 monitors, a 21" hp p1120 (trinitron tube) and a 19" samsung 931bf LCD (i have read its important to know this when choosing tablet sizes)

I own an Intuos3 A4; it's a very nice piece. I should work with it more often when I think about it.

Sausehuhn, i mostly thought about using it for coloring, but how do you like it for drawing and sketching?

is it really good?, the sensitivities and all, are they useful and fun to use?

will A5 be too small?, do you feel you need space with A4?

Well you have to learn it and the fact that you're not drawing on what you're looking at is sometimes a bit perplexing; but you get used to it. And in combination with the additional buttons on the tablet itself it's even easier to correct mistakes with just one button press.

A4 is big. But then on the other hand I'm using two monitors so you need more space on the tablet. I would go for something widescreen now if buyable. Cause I mainly use the upper half of the tablet and not the lower part because of the way the monitors are "projected" on the tablet (if you see what I mean). There are plenty of options and settings you can adjust - so the way the pen pressure handles or how the monitors are projected is fully customizable. But A5 could be enough, yeah. I can't tell exactly cause I only worked with A4 so far ;)

Nonetheless: if you want to do serious coloring with your computer there's nothing better than Wacom I think. And the Intuos series is surely one of the bests you can get.
When I look at what you can do with just a mouse then I'm sure you will love your Intuos. There's no doubt about it.

Hey dude awesome sketches :)
I currently use a genius tablet 8x12
It has 1024 pressure levels more pressure levels than the cheaper wacoms and .
I used a friends wacom and tried a genius , the wacom was definately a bit more comfy but the genius was 14 times cheaper than the wacom of the same size ,and it didn't make much sense to me to pay that much more for a slightly more comfy pen . I've been using mine for well over 3 years now and havn't had a problem . If you have the money then sure get a wacom but look into a genius they're pretty cool .

Linchpin those are really good, thanks for the info, i have a friend that tells me has a genius tablet, dont know if it would be the same model as yours, i will ask about the specs and try it.


Sausehuhn, thanks for the info, specially about 2 monitors, theres a 6x11 model that could suit me, i guess.

just out of curiosity has anyone tried a cintiq? (just curious, definitely not buying one)

I use everyday Wacom (at home) and Genius (at work), I prefer Wacom, but it's true they're a bit overpriced, a Genius may be a good start.
I've tried Cintiq once, but I find a tablet more confortable and fast, and it's too expensive to ever think in buying one (not even the Cintiq 12WX).
And good drawings, I'm eager to see what can you do with a tablet.

Amazing work Linchpin! Love the speed painting and the Kelly Brook pieces you did.

Especially the Kelly Brook one. Not only because I have a thing for her, but at first glance one can swear it was an actual photograph and not a painting.
