Nice racing bro :)
I see the current record on the wipeout-game site is 1:43:30 by Kandang. I will challenge this later today once the alchohol has worn off from last night :):) lol

Count me in as well. Just one question: Does any fast TT lap count as fastest lap in this challenge or does it have to be one from the submitted TT record race?

I think taking the fastest lap from the TT race record would be most interesting what do you think? :) Its harder to pull off a really fast lap in TT mode rather than speed lap.
G'Kyl
1st January 2008, 01:12 PM
Well, you can still do the speed lap thing, using a turbo right before going into a fast lap and all. BUT: You'd most probably have to do that in seperate race, since on most tracks your race time suffers from that technique. So if you just do a fast lap during TT and submit that record to this challenge and after that do another TT to submit your race record you might have an advantage over people who enter the fastest lap from their fastest race time. Hmmm... does that clarify what I meant? ;) And yes, I DO think taking only the fastest lap from your TT record is most interesting in this challenge.

My, my, my... Here's a first pitiful attempt at the "barrel roll mania stunt challenge". I'm pretty sure there's about ten more seconds on the track for those who can safely hit all those ramps that should have been upright walls. :| Let's see when 1.35 and lower gets beaten. Shouldn't take too long...
UPDATEd times
1.37.94
32.92 (8) PL
32.64 (5)
32.38 (8) PL
So discouraging if your following laps are as "fast" as your first one. ;) Best lap time is 31.33. Too bad Pulse doesn't save your fastest TT single lap time, even if it's below your speed lap record.

The possible amount of BRs in one lap is just sick. Stupid ramps...

Very nice Ringospoon to do a new sweet weekly TT!
I hope a lot of Wipers will join us in this challenge to learn more about the tracks in Pulse. So that Wipers from the zone will dominate the recordtables on Wipeout-game.com.
For the challenge I would like to see fastest possible race but also fastest possible lap. Fastest lap being made in the race or in speed lap.
My first entry for this challenge:
34.55 ( 8 )
33.02 ( 8 )
32.92 ( 8 )PL
1.40.49 (24) Piranha
Fastest lap of 32.38 is made in a other TT race.
My race time is made with two BRs a lap. After the long open curve to the left, hit the two speed pads on the left side then hitting the turbo to be able to do a BR on the small hit. This will give you enough speed to do another BR before going into the long right curve.
I know there are 4 BRs possible in 1 lap. 2 BRs on the left side of the long open curve to the left and the other 2 describe in my TT race. But I did not succeed in a better race time then this one. Okay good luck everybody.
EDIT:
32.97 ( 9 )PL
32.11 ( 8 )
31.62 (10)PL
1.36.70 (27)
fastest lap in race TT 31.06
speedlap 30.43 ( 9 )PL

Just a small update:
1st: 32"54 ( 9 )PL
2nd: 31"15 ( 8 )PL
3rd: 32"32 ( 8 )PL
Total: 1'36"01 Piranha 25
My best lap time is:
30"34.
I couldn't get extra BRs, only one before the long right turn, but I was able to hit the speed pads, boost, br and turn a perfect right turn into the last 90 left turn.
Did you BR twice then Mad??? I couldn't... :?
Stardragon88
1st January 2008, 06:51 PM
Phew, I must say this track is rather more technical compared to Moa Therma White :p
*Update - Alright, here are some new times after my second round of TTs.
Lap 1: 0.32.83 ( 7 )
Lap 2: 0.31.57 ( 5 ) PL
Lap 3: 0.31.99 ( 9 )
Total: 1.36.39 - Piranha
**Bit of further update. Got my best lap time down to 31.23 on a seperate TT.
I'm quite satisfied for now, though I'm kinda miffed that I missed one BR on lap 3 and I have no idea how I only hit 5 speed pads on lap 2. :?
Off for some breakfast, good luck everyone!

After half an hour, here are my times, doing the same schema than DJ and Stardragon88^^ :
1 - 0.33.47 (9)
2 - 0.32.79 (7)
3 - 0.32.35 (8, PL)
Total : 1.38.61.
Not bad, but as you can see i missed 3 BP's at all... 1.38 is the next target.

Hi all,
I think it will be good if we edit our new times in the first post we made with race times. This will make it much easier to come up with the end result for Ringospoon.
At DjManiac: yes I did 2 BRs coming up the hill. But my new times in my first post I did it just like Stardragon88 and I describe before.

1 - 0:37.21 (7)
2 - 0:36.16 (6) PL
3 - 0:35.51 (8 )
Total - 1:48.88
nothing to brilliant, but I know there's plenty of scope for improvment
Here's My second:
1 - 0:36.32 (9)
2 - 0:35.26 (9) PL
3 - 0:35.34 (9) PL

Count me in as well! I missed out most of the TT challenges for Pure so definitely want to participate this time around with Pulse.
I need to put some practice in before reporting back with times-- I think my best lap time is about 33 seconds at the moment, definitely room for some improvement.
So did SL deliberately include all of these short walls, as a launch point for barrel rolls? It sure seems that way.
Sweet bro - fastest lap from the TT race it is then :)
Sounds good-- and makes sense.
Is there any possibility that a speed lap challenge thread will be created? Like many others here, I really dig the speed lap thing-- but can the community handle multiple ongoing challenges (TT as well as speed lap)? We don't want them to cannabilize each other.
RingoSpoon
4th January 2008, 10:26 PM
For the challenge I would like to see fastest possible race but also fastest possible lap. Fastest lap being made in the race or in speed lap.
I agree - everyone will be playing speed lap initially anyway to set a ghost to use a marker in TT.
No need for another thread - both fastest TT and Speed Lap records will be taken into account.

Hi DJ, I think it's done, at least based on the OP...
Challenge Closes Saturday January 5th 12:00pm GMT
12PM means noon rather than midnight, right? Or do I have that backwards?
Edit:
Here's what Wikipedia sez... << noon is often called "12:00 p.m." and midnight "12:00 a.m.", as at the beginning of a day... >> (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-hour_clock)
Wow, I had no idea how complicated the AM/PM thing was before reading that article :) Maybe Ringo will tell us if he means noon or midnight?

Use 24 hour timescale. But there is still the problem of allowing for difference in time zones. It doesn't seem fair to use just Universal Time/GMT for someone who lives in England and someone else who lives in Australia and is way ahead of UT or someone in the U.S. who is way behind UT. The deadline would occur for them in such completely different parts of their working or sleeping day.
Hyper Shadow
6th January 2008, 12:39 PM
But if you say that it would be fair to have a staggered finish time, then to keep the whole competition fair, you'd have to have a staggered start time aswell. Then it gets to the point where if you have a staggered finish time, people in other countries could concievably get longer at the competition and that would open up a whole can of worms.
I think in the interests of fairness, GMT times should be the standard in 24 hour notation.
Lance
6th January 2008, 05:04 PM
I think that setting the finish time at just UT/GMT is fine as long as there are several days of competition beforehand. Doing it with only a couple of days before deadline would make it so that not everyone had enough actual racing time available amongst their other activities.
I ran into this problem when running a tournament a few years ago when there were a series of weekly competitions, each week on a different racetrack, leading up to a final points-based victory for the entire series. For each track, there was a full week available, and I set the close of each week at the same time for everyone, but that time was determined based on what would give even someone on the west coast of the U.S. a fair chance instead of closing it while they were still asleep but the Europeans had a last day to take their final shot. I still gave the time in GMT so everyone had an easy common reference for conversion to their local time. It seemed to work out okay; I got no complaints about it being unfair.

I'm at work still and my PC died days ago so I'll try to steal my wife's mac for a sec tonight and get back to you on this :+
------------------------------------
Allright then, back at home now.
I'll start with some ideas about what I did on Talons Junction.
Boost start, hit speed pad on the right into the easy right turn, after hitting one of the two speed pads ahead let the ship go almost into the wall while turning right getting closer to the single pad on the left lane, then sideshift so you hit the pad and head into the 2 pads on the start of the stretch, right lane, it's a fact that sideshifting gives you a boost of around 50 km-h, so that counts when you use them wisely to get into a turn faster, and in this way, you get to the 2 pads on the right faster, a little, but it counts.
Then go on into the loop, pad before the loop, take speed into the loop and when starting to decelerate hit the boost here, so you'll complete the loop at top speed. I do this because I notice an important decrease in speed when on a magstrip. Hit pad on loop in the middle, then let the ship slide left into the left pad when the loops finishes.
Next tight right turn, sideshift into it in a way in which you end up facing the speed pad without having to steer much to the right.
Then go through the S section trying to get a straight line. Then I airbrake into this right turn and sideshift to the left into the stretch before the U turn, so the ship is going straight but pointing a little to the right, which makes it easier to airbrake into the right U turn.
You will notice here that there are 2 pads on the left and 1 on the right after the U turn, these 2 pads on the left are not really 2 but 1, so you will get boost only from one of the, the one further ahead, I'm sure you all noticed this, someone forgot to activate that pad :P
Then turn right into finish, DONE!
At least that's how I got it, I found it handy to take these sideshift>boost combination, trying straight lines as much as possible.
And of course, pitch up or down when needed, mostly down in this track.
Hope it's useful for you as well :D
Laterz!!!!
Stardragon88
10th January 2008, 12:42 AM
Whoa, I never did realise that sideshifting gave you a slight boost like that. I'll certainly have to make it a habit.
Might I ask how exactly does pitch control benefit you? I've always wondered about this. I've found it useful to land more quickly after a BR, and prevent my ship from lifting off the track in some sections of Fort Gale (the first bend in White, and conversely the last one in Black).
On level sections though, I haven't figured out what the benefits of pitching up or down are. I've reasoned that pitching down should lower your aerodynamic profile and increase your speed, but I've yet to notice any difference ;)

Yep, I've been wondering since the first time I crossed that "double" pad... it's actually the first defunctional speed pad in any WO game, right? Maybe it is on purpose. Like story-wise, they might have technical problems at Talon's Junction....

Perhaps I'm an idiot, but is it a new race today? Perhaps a new thread every week created and edited by the race creator of the week would be easier. I think all I'm doing is perpetuating the stupid american stereotype :mr-t.
Medusa
21st January 2008, 03:28 PM
LOL. Not really, Chrono - I didn't know you were american until now.:g
By the way, I'd really be more apt to participate in the weekly challenge if the TTs were for rapier or phantom, since I honestly find the lower speeds to boring in my AG-SYS and not changing!! But of course that is not very versatile or accomadating of me. Looking forward to the next/first TT challenge I can try my hand at.

I still think it's a good idea, cause I never know what races are going on in this thread. Who's week is it?
Asayyeah
21st January 2008, 04:53 PM
I think this thread is coming a bit messy, the problem is you need someone serious who can order the weekly challenge and also have enough time to edit and post ranking every week and ask people to choose a different track per week : honestly for doing that job 1 year & half ago with the 28 tracks of pure i can tell you that is a huge job: atm i really don't have the time for it and not sure i will find time in a close future.
I am not for a multiplication of threads dealing with that weekly challenge, exception made if each month i merge, for instance, the 4 week threads in this one.
If there's like 6 to 10 players every week ( like the pure's challenge) , someone should propose himself to make a report of every week , if there's not much interest on it no need to make those reports.
Chrono

I can handle a monthly challenge thread. Personally, I want weekly challenges, or I wouldn't be here. Should we start a new thread this week deeming it "month 2"? Who's week is it anyway? LoL sorry, I'm anxious today

Ok let's say those 3 last weeks were the warm up and now starting the real sweet weekly challenge organized by you Chrono.
Now you can create a thread called ' Pulse TT weekly challenge ' explaining in the 1st post what are the rules and how do you see the global stuff running, people can add their ideas and maybe lauch the weekly challenge end of this week when everything will be ok clear & in order. ** you can have a look on what i did for Pure (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3475)
After this i will close Ringospoon's topic

Alright, I'll give it a go. I'm over at Mauro's right now racing (if anyone wants to join, we're online MSN). I'll do my best, thanks for linking a thread. Also, PM me any details I might need to know. Thanks man, look forward to Feb.
