Hi there all,

Recently i've found that my non-Sony PS1 Memory Card's contents just seem to have vanished! (including my WO2097 and W3O saves :frown:).

I also had this problem years ago with my, now broken, PSX. At that time I had 2 Memory Cards (1 Sony, 1 not) and while the Sony MC always worked perfectly, some of the blocks on the other one ended up failing.

I'd like to know if anyone noticed this with unnofficial memory cards, so, could anyone tell me if it's just me or any PS1 Memory Card not made by Sony is just crap? ;)

Quite often they're made with inferior components, stuff that breaks easily or has weak QC.
Sometimes they're also just not compliant to the full "memory card standard" and don't respond the way they're supposed to. So they'll work, but not with all games.

What you might want to do is grab a PC component called a DexDrive (there are lots of posts about them around here, do a search) and copy your memory cards onto your PC. From there you can move them around, archive them, whatever.

Ok, I didn't know such devices. I'll have a look. Thanks.

I had a gamester memory card that died randomly, both Sony PS1 memory cards still work to this day :)

cripes. My original WipEout game-save is on a Gamester card. *heads for ebay*

Also these cards are too fat to fit in a dexdrive or ps2 properly.
