Awesome challenge, really. Harimau the "poor man's Piranha", what with its resemblance with the beast is an awesome craft. I really like its looks and there's a feel to it that really makes it Piranha's little brother.
Pencil me in! *off to the Black Sea*
Time Trials:
1st attempt Odessa Keys - 26"93
info: far from perfect, 3 BR, turbo used: in the last corner
best Perfect Lap so far: 27"10
1st attempt Anulpha Pass - 24"93
info: PL, 1 BR, turbo used: down to the triple BP.
1st attempt Modesto Heights - 25"91
info: lots of scrapes, 2BR, turbo used: in the last corner when turbo from BR wears off
oh, and on a side-note: I physically H-A-T-E this track. I think it's the worst designed WO track ever!

Cool, and I'll update with my times, which I expect to improve.

I'm surprised mclaren hasn't jumped into this challenge. He's ridiculously fast in Harimau. I think he's been trying to switch to VanUber though. 8 )

Oh, now that you mention it, I see that I'm still short a Modesto time. Let's see what I can come up with.

Yay, I bettered my Modesto Heights time. 26"45
Not amazing, but after 150 laps I can't really be bothered to do another. I'm sure I can easily get a better time on Anulpha Pass though.
edit: I encourage my fellow wipers to join the challenge, I'm sure you can beat me, at least :)
the morning.
edit: I beat my time on Anulpha Pass. I can do better, but once I've done 150 laps, it's over. Not to mention when I do it it's around two in the morning.

Edited my times-post to add my "Mod.H8s" time I nailed on the train home a few minutes ago.

Yeah, I'm not keen on the track, much, at all, much really. But I would feel guilty if I had tracks that I was really good at. That said, there's a difference between good at and enjoying. Although I do think I'm a tad excelling on Odessa Keys, but it could just be a great track. As for Anulpha Pass, it just seemed liked a good idea at the time, what with the no-barrier shortcut and all. Even though my performance at that particular track is so-so at best.
So really I'm only good at Odessa Keys in my mind. Lol. I'll update with your new time.

I can see where you're coming from, and I agree. Professionals have to be able to adjust to whatever situation occurs. Not that I am a pro or anything, it's just that I definitely play WO beyond "just for fun" reasons. Needless to say that's why I enjoy it so much. The game allows a semi-professional approach and rewards those that show patience and dedication. That said, although I don't quite like the track, I race it for the reasons mentioned and because it's part of the challenge.
But, and that "but" might go a long way, I really think it's badly designed, as in not very balanced and many times putting too much stress on WO's physics to be able to handle it with the PSP's limited input possibilities. What do the others think?
I'm a tad excelling on Odessa Keys, but it could just be a great track
It certainly is, awesome visuals. Of course it's a mere shadow of the menace it used to be in 2097/XL but I still like the Classic2 version.
Anulpha Pass (...) seemed liked a good idea (...) what with the no-barrier shortcut
I think it's harder on Rapier than on Phantom, especially with a light, high handling craft such as the Harimau. But I like the behavior of Harimau on Anulpha Pass and once you found the correct line the ledge will- too- be just another part of the track.

Okay, I decided to broaden my horizons and race Harimau for awhile! But I forgot which 3 tracks it was so I'll have to add in Odessa Keys later.
Anulpha Pass: SR - 28:19 FP/TT - 27:54
Modesto Heights: SR - 30:02 FP/TT - 28:47
I'm one BR behind on both tracks, so now neither of you need worry about coming in "Last" in this challenge!

I think there's even a sub-25-time possible. On my 25"91 run I scraped lots of walls and missed two pads.

I've updated the times and removed the PAL/NTSC distinction. I've got to update my times again, I'm falling behind! (Particularly on Odessa Keys)
Then I'm off to Single Race too!

Hi everyone! :)
I tried this challenge yesterday and today. The outcome follows.
Anulpha Pass
SR: 0.25.12
TT: 0.24.85
Modesto Heights
SR: 0.26.37
TT: 0.25.81
Odessa Keys
SR: 0.27.24
TT: 0.26.35
I was not patient enough to race for too long on each track, especially not in the end (Odessa Keys SR). I did at most 30 laps per track in Free Play for the TT times, each Free Play followed by some single races.
Once again I was reminded about SRs being more difficult to win in Rapier than in Phantom.
I liked this challenge -- a couple of tracks, but not too many, and a fixed ship. Good idea!

I finally got somewhere in my struggle for a better time on Odessa Keys. Only behind borell now! But I still need to do some Single Race times and get a better time for Anulpha Pass.

SR - 30:58

Today is the first time I've raced it on anything above Venom...and much improvement is needed obviously!!
I spent a godawful amount of time on Modesto Heights and still my time is over 28 seconds - now it is 28:09. I really dislike the Harimau's handling on this course, it's just not an AGS and I knows it!!

Stevie is sleeping for 1 hour, Stuart on the phone with girlfriend and I still awake to take part to this Harimau challenge :D
Here's my current free laps result for the 3 tracks :
Odessa Keys : 25.68 (PL)
4 BR : each jump + the one at the beginning ( get a boost before starting-line and BR at top of the mini hill )
turbo just after hitting that right boost pad out from the tricky tunnel.
Modesto Heights : 25.04 ( no PL here)
2 BR : 1st done on that 1st downhill near the start, 2nd done on the jump < tip > = turbo just a micro sec after doing that last BR , if you stay close from the ground you can land just before the last right turn and with the boost from that BR and a nice right sideshift you can finish fast on that straight line.
Anulpha Pass : 24.55 ( 2 walls hits)
Just 1 BR here : on that final part of upper section.
Turbo after the left 1st long left curve , get immediately after the 3 boost pads in diagonal < tip> = don't go too much outside right entering the upper -shortcut- section
Stuart is now practising Modesto TT gonna watch him in action ;)

After 278 laps on Anulpha (you know, it's one type of strategy to practice beyond exorbitance), this was the best I could come up with:
TT: Anulpha Pass 0:24:61
I think my main problem is the first long left and the bump on that straight; Taking turbo from previous lap, I cut the finish line on the right side of the track avoiding the first boost pad and then try to catch all three pads taking the left one of the middle pair. The problem is I don't have guts to trust the turning and end up using airbrakes to keep my craft in line. I'm not even sure should I bother to fly through all three since hitting the first two and then aiming a good line for the straight seems as fast for me. And the straight: Hitting those three pads before the second tunnel is quite easy, but I end up bottoming on that bump just before them because of the turbo. If I use it a bit later, I can fly over that bump but the pads nullify the speed.
Or then I'm just doing it all wrong.

To be honest, 500+ laps megasession for single day isn't very healthy. But at least it gave me... "some results":
TT:
Odessa Keys 0:25.84
Modesto Heights 0:25.34 (thanks for tip Asayyeah! You'll regret it. :))
This night, a big puma is going to chase me in my nightmares. Red sky and all those dramatic backdrops. And I'm desperate harimau speeding away...
But there's no escape. It sinks it's teeth on me. I need to absorb more energy or I'll explode! :dizzy

The challenge will end no later than when Pulse is released. (Not sure about regional timings.)
I still update times but I don't always check this topic and it's hard to tell whether any times have been updated from the index. I thought that the challenge was running out of steam, though. I really should do some more, because I know I can do better, but it just will require a lot of effort, and energy is lacking at this time.
edit: Ah, supersocks, haha.
