View Full Version : Post your Pulse custom soundtrack

Turbovec

As well all know at this point, Wipeout Pules is gonna have the nifty feature of being able to use your own MP3s for music. So, has anyone started coming up with playlists yet? :D I know its real early, but I'm kind of curious as to what tracks other Wipeout fans will be listening to. So, if you got a list of songs you're planning on using, feel free to post it. I'll start things off with a small sample of my list:

1. ATB - Fields of Love (Darude vs JS16 Mix)
2. Carte Blanche - Veracocha
3. Cosmic Gate - Exploration of Space
4. Lange - Drifting Away
5. Adrima - Can't Stop Raving

Anyone have any other good recommendations? :+

Right now I'm planning to just have a lot of previously used music from the other games...and whatever good ones are on the Pulse soundtrack.

Speaking of Pulse soundtrack, can anyone identify the song used in the teaser vid? O_O

Probably most of the in game tunes and the following, not a complete list I'm sure lots more will jump out at me, so along with a track from the game Killer Loop that I don't know the name of..

1) Cold Comfort - Cold Storage
2) Expander - Sasha
3) Lethal Cut - Propellorheadz
4) Adagio for Strings - Tiësto
5) The Legacy - Push
6) Music - MDA & Spherical
7) Dusty Keyboard (Monkjack remix) - Digital Kid
8) The Butterfly Effect
9) Disconnect (my WAR song lol) - James Jaye & Alex Calver
10) Big Groovy Funker
11) Forever Waiting (Arnauds Wipeout anthem :banzai) - Mr.Sam Vs Fred Baker Present As One
12) Universal Nation - Push
13) Cross The Line - Elite Force
14) Black Jack 3
15) Grand Theft - Freq Nasty
16) Ignition - Paul Hartnoll
17) C - Note (Instrumental Mix) - Photek

and more there are a lot and I can't think of them right now plus the list would too long for you to read. Obviously some of these tracks will need a spot of work before they get slapped on since a few are far too long.

I'll listen to the ingame soundtrack first and may add a few of my own choice, but I guess I'll be ending up playing without music (only sound effects) like I do now on pure.

Some tunes I could imagine to add are:

Acen - Windows in the sky (kingdom of light mix)
Acen - Cryonic (signal to noise remix)
Fluke - Atombomb (straight 6 instrumental mix)
Groove Armada - Final Shakedown
Le Rosbifs - BSE mon ami
Rage against the machine - Bombtrack (especially fun for multiplayer :p)
Sasha - Xpander

and maybe some songs from "Too Strong" to go with the ones mentioned above.

#45 is one of the contested ones. Written as a youth. Known also as K95 or K73n.

If you saw After Hours by Martin Scorsese, that's the music playing during the credits.

Must go and re-listen to #40!

EDIT: RR goes and re-listens to #40.

Oh aye. It is sweet alright :D Still, my money's on 45 for a frantic ride ;)

For me, like a lot of people mentioned, I'd put a compliation of songs from Wipeout past. Either a best of, or if it's too hard to chose all the songs I could gather from the previous Wipeout releases.

As for artists or songs not in any of the Wipeout games, I know I've mentioned these before but I'd use...

Pet Shop Boys - KDX 125
Pet Shop Boys - Discoteca (Trouser Enthusiasts Adventure Beyond the Stellar Empire Mix)

Every time I listen to these songs I could imagine them being used in Wipeout. Now with Pulse's music feature, that'll be a reality :D

As for something that's not Pet Shop Boys that screams Wipeout is this song called Paris by MSTRKRFT (http://www.myspace.com/mstrkrft). I've linked to their MySpace page and you can hear the song by selecting it on their player. Good Canadian Boys that made a great album last summer.

Hopefully you can track down these songs. I know I'll be perusing this thread when Pulse comes out and adding your recommendations to my playlist.

Finally we get something we've been always wanting. From the looks of it, Pulse has cemented the PSP as a console for me. Usually I don't consider handhelds to be one.

I'm somewhat new to electronic music and am trying to grow my appreciation for and collection of the genre, so I can include it as a custom soundtrack in Wipeout Pulse. Here's what I'm thinking so far:

1. Onyx (CoLD SToRAGE)
2. Cairodrome (CoLD SToRAGE)
3. Operatique (CoLD SToRAGE)
4. Body Plus (CoLD SToRAGE)
5. Nothing But You (Paul Dijk)
6. Buenaventure (Paul Dijk)
7. Kaleidoscope (radio edit) (Paul Dijk)
8. Three Little Birdies Down Beats (Chemical Bros.)
9. Life Is Sweet (Chemical Bros.)
10. Know Where to Run (Orbital)

Any other suggestions for good Wipeout racing music? Or primers for some of the artists already included in the game?

I plan on putting on every song from WipEout original, most from Wip3out, and a few from XL and WO64. Whatever I can fit, along with Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets. That's a wicked piece of music to have playing when my AG-5Y5 finally beats the tar out of a Triakis. Unfortunately I have to play it in my head...

(I plan to use the previous soundtracks because just hearing them puts me into a wipeout-like trance. It's like I'm transported back to tracks that I know well and am calm racing...even though I don't know Pure tracks well - just having Cairodrome going makes me feel nirvana-ish.)

I was wondering, if this was posted elsewhere then I missed it but how will the custom soundtrack feature work exactly? Will it be able to read songs straight out my music folder or will they need to be in a game specific folder? If I have to have 2 copies of the same songs on my memory stick well, what a waste of precious space.

infoxicated
31st July 2007, 09:20 AM
You need to have them in a specific folder for the game to pick them up - you can only add 30 mp3's to the game, if I remember correctly, so it cant draw from your main music folders.

Great questions and thanks for sheading some light on the custom soundtrack Rob! :)

I have one to add myself. Will the game be reading and displaying the filename or the MP3's ID3 tag? So that we get Artist and Title from the MP3 file itself.

Not much. I like a good mix of things all shuffled about. But Messij Received is put at the end whereas Messij is at the beginning. No, most of the songs are simply shuffled around, but I tried not to put too many Cold Storage songs together.

Does anyone listen to Justice? I thought it would be a cool band to play on WipEout. Here's their MySpace:http://www.myspace.com/etjusticepourtous

Awesome electro-house band. I know that I'll put D.A.N.C.E. and Stress on the MP3 player on WipEout Pulse.

Thanks! I have a bizarre range of styles in my library, those just seemes most fitting to WipEout, I might add some new songs to this playlist over time.

All of my music (and there isnt much of it at the moment) is on my website:
http://redsuntech.xt.cx
Just click Music at the top and it will bring up all the music posts Ive made.

Im going on holiday for 10 days so I will go on a mass composing spree when I get back and make some more darker sounding tracks rather than the more upbeat style most of mine are at the moment.

By the way, 'Emergency Break', 'Emergency Lights', and '3 Point Turn' are my only tracks I really like atall so if you judge my music on any tracks make it one of them 3 (Preferably '3 Point Turn';))

Edit: Forgot to mention, I will definately enjoy my stay here. I just got back into Wipeout (I started playing Fusion again) and my obsession has grown to the point Im buying a PSP Slimline (not Phat) JUST for Pulse! I cant wait! I got really good at Fusion and Im training again to get as good as I used to be.

First of all, I have to say that this custom soundtrack feature was one of the best - if not THE best - new features ever to the WipEout franchise. It's not that the original tracks sucked, no, far from it. WipEout soundtracks have always rocked and will always rock and they give the perfect feeling to the futuristic anti-gravity setting. Some corny wussy-rock just wouldn't be WipEout enough.

So, here is my custom soundtrack list, not for boasting purposes but just for the fun of it, with some comments. And the criteria I used with the list was:

1. All electronica. No biting-heads-off-goats -power metal, no wussy-rock, no pop, no nothing. Just electronica. Why? Ok, it's my favorite genre and all other genres are inferior in general. I'm extremely pessimistic by the new way the music is heading in general (down the drain), the golden age was the mid-90's. But aside from tastes, electronica is the pure definition of WipEout. It's the future! Electronica is way ahead of its time! (especially Future Sound of London) Other genres just wouldn't fit that well.

2. Speed is the key. No moody ambient which goes so slow that if it went any slower, it would go backwards. And the tracks should actually start quite fast so no slower intros here. Chemical Brothers' Elektrobank was left out because of the intro, a difficult decision it was. :(

3. Beat is the key. Again, ambient or other minimalistic stuff is out of the list. You don't want to listen to the hum of the wind when there's havoc happening all around the track.

4. Not too lengthy, not too short. Actually it differs pretty much, the longest track was about 8 minutes and I don't even remember the shortest one, maybe some of the initial Pulse tracks.

5. No lyrics. Okay, Atom Bomb is a huge exception but it just fits the atmosphere so perfectly. Lyrics are nice all in all, however, I prefer the music itself and the lyrics are good if they fit the melody and the tempo and they don't even have to be intelligible. Orbital's moody Goldfrappy hums are great examples of this.

6. It has to be WipEout enough.

Geez, I've written this much and haven't even started the list yet! So I shall:

From WipEout:

Leftfield - Afro Ride (chilly, cool tune)
Chemical Brothers - Chemical Beats (true classic)
Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L. (yup, took the longer one from In Sides album, this is just perfect)

From WipEout 2097:

Future Sound of London - We Have Explosive (from Dead Cities album because the WO one's ending is just stupid, great war theme for Eliminator)
Future Sound of London - Landmass (always when I hear this, 2097 comes to mind, moody & beautiful)
Fluke - Atom Bomb (not the game remix, the original! Such a great tune, such great lyrics, such great everything! This in Eliminator... oh yeah)
Fluke - V6 (interesting note, folks, this was the main theme of a crappy music program called Jyrki here in Finland. Anyways, very good)
Chemical Brothers - Dust Up Beats (like a more complex version of Chemical Beats)
Chemical Brothers - Loops of Fury (too bad this isn't on their albums, too awesome I have it in this soundtrack!)
Underworld - Tin There (so fast it could outrun Zone)
I didn't include Firestarter (heard it like gillion times already) and Third Sequence just sucks.
Cold Storage - Canada (I don't think it really fit the 2097 mood, but nonetheless it's great and deserves to be in Pulse)
Cold Storage - Body in Motion (WipEouty, need I say more?)

From Wip3out:

Orbital - Know Where to Run (just plain wow, I absolutely must find Middle of Nowhere album)
Underworld - Kittens (full version from Beaucoup Fish because the W3 one is way short, a great tune, like march of the cats or something)
Sasha - Xpander (best trance track EVER, and I don't generally like trance at all. But Xpander is a huge exception)

From WipEout Fusion:

Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea Hybrid Mix (the best PNG remix, fits WipEout perfectly, especially Fusion)
Luke Slater - Bolt Up (rough and tough track with the aggression to match, superb for events of mass destruction)
Orbital - Funny Break (the original is so awesome, but this remix is better for WipEout and sounds really cool)
Hong Kong Trash - Down the River (this is a funny track, faster than lightning, really Zoney)

Other tracks:

Chemical Brothers - Three Little Birdies Down Beats (ironically, I haven't heard this one yet from the soundtrack because of the random playlist. Still, when I heard the middle part, I thought: "I will put this in Pulse when it gets released!")
Chemical Brothers - The Big Jump (actually this is the first candidate to be replaced. Sure, it's a nice track and it has beat and all... but it isn't so WipEout. Yeah, I could replace this with Underworld's Rowla)
Chemical Brothers - Saturate (same reaction with Little Birdies, I just thought it sounded cool - and it sure does)
Fluke - Absurd (similar to Atom Bomb, just as good, has some attitude)
Future Sound of London - Expander (same reaction with Birdies and Saturate)
Leftfield - Phat Planet (c'mon, it's phat!)
Leftfield - Double Flash (c'mon, it's like Flash speed class, only double!)
Orbital - Crash and Carry (so fast, so gritty, so noisy)
Orbital - Tension (this is so friggin' crazy that it suits WipEout really well!)
Orbital - Tootled (this one is from the asylum as well!)
Orbital - Beelzebeat (just as the name implies, it has some beat in it, it fits Zone quite nicely)

Ooookay... That. Was. It. Sure took a while to write but it was fun. I hope I didn't write all this for nothing. Hehheh, seems like my soundtrack circles around the same artists. I could've put some Aphex Twin if the track limit was bigger but hey - 46 tracks are more than enough for me!

Awesome to see other peoples' music suggestions-- so far iTunes has made about $100 from this as I've bought songs or full CDs from Paul van Dyk, Chemical Brothers, Fluke, Junkie XL, Mason, Paul Kalkbrenner and others. Generally I prefer to buy physical CDs but for this kind of stuff-- mostly European releases that I may only want individual songs from-- iTunes is perfect.

I think the next groups I will check out is Orbital plus some of the more obscure stuff that is mentioned above.

Thanks again!

Frances, if you're interested in Orbital, I'd have to recommend albums called In Sides and Snivilisation. They're the best ones out there, pure Orbital, although I like The Altogether and Work 1989-2002 too really much. Well, to tell the truth, I haven't heard a bad track from Orbital yet. :)

Yup, the franchise was the spark that lit the fire for me too years ago. I wasn't really into music before WipEout. Although Final Fantasy soundtracks are just pure earcandy too. (Earcandy?! Oh well, eyecandy's brother and mouthcandy's sister...)

I've found that, to provide a satisfying, slightly comic, surprise to the usual soundtrack, throwing in Yello's "The Race" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bGKDm8ZE1GY) can't be beat. 24 tracks of pure drum and bass.

Sometimes swap it for The 6th Session by DB

there was a couple of Fly Leaf songs my friend was playing while i was on pulse and that fitted the racing pretty well

i havent put any custom songs in yet but im thinking of some psytrance

//side note
would it be illegal to rip the music from the UMD to listen on my ipod? cos i have the pure, 2097 and 3 soundtracks on it and i own all those games, just wondering what the legal side is on this

Coming from someone who is against piracy and all that, I don't see the problem. They haven't bothered to release it on CD and furthermore you paid for that UMD fair and square so why not? Old games worked as CDs. I'll be extracting the tunes myself before long cos I doubt the CD is on the horizon and some of these tunes are not findable elsewhere.

CR4SH3D

i dont think any will be released else where because theyre all 'exclusives' as far as i know

it would be awesome though if they released a pack with a book of artwork backstory etc, and cds with all the soundtracks on, id love something like that

plus if you rip the ST you can work out which tunes to turn off then, or close your eyes and pretend your racing :P

Do you remember the game Product Number 03 for Gamecube? I have the soundtrack and many of the tracks fit perfectly in Wipeout.
Also FFVII Advent Children soundtrack has a couple of good tracks, such as
Jenova, or Chase in the Highway.

this is all you need to see for my soundtrack. I personally think fenix funk 5 was a poor choice of an aphex twin song to put in game, i would have went with something off drukqs, namely "54 cymru beats" or "taking control"
but then again, theres just sooo much goodness to aphex twin you couldnt possibly pick one "Best" song of his to use.

ps- that is only a portion of my collection, much more vinyl and another hoodie as well

I can't remember all of the songs I use (think I have the maximum 30), but the following go really nicely with Pulse:

Battles - Atlas
Moby - Feeling so real
Moby - Go
FSOL - Papua new ginuea
Pendulum - Sounds of life
Pendulum - Hold your colour
Squarepusher - Do you know?

In fact, anything from the "Hold your colour" album by Pendulum goes remarkably well.

Racing on Atlas from Battles ? Sounds odd but still have to try this… Well that band is just fantastic, might be my stand out discovery from 2007. And i'm not even talking about their previous releases… Somewhere between mathrock, electronics and free-jazz .
Do you know Black Dice, by the way ? A little more radical, but really worth a hearing.

I replaced FSOL’s “Kai” because I could barely hear it. Instead I’m using Public Enemy’s “The B-Side Wins Again”

By the way, you haven’t lived until you strap into your ship and race down the track with John Barry’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” blaring.

And, if there any Juno Reactor fans in here, I managed to mix “Conquistador I” and “Conquistador II” so that it sounds f***ing awesome. If anyone wants it, let me know.

Oddly enough, I could imagine myself racing to John Barry's theme from 'Goldfinger', or even his creepily great music from the 'Ipcress File', as some sort of bizarre futuristic setting that speaks of hidden secret evil controlling everything around you.

There's no beat to it, and it's not even loud, but it would make racing feel surreal.

All Sasha tracks from W3O.
Digitalism - Homezone
Digitalism - Idealistic
Simian Mobile Disco - Hustler
Simian Mobile Disco - Tits & Acid
Simian Mobile Disco - Hotdog
Simian Mobile Disco - Wooden
Klaxons - Magick (Simian Mobile Disco mix)
Justice - Let there Be Light
Justice - Newjack
Justice - Phantom
Justice - Stress
Justice - Waters of Nazareth
Juno Reactor - Swamp Thing
Juno Reactor - Kaguya Hime
Juno Reactor - Children of the Night
Juno Reactor - Conquistador II
Juno Reactor - High Energy Protons
Juno Reactor - Laughing Gas
Juno Reactor - Mona Lisa Overdrive
Sasha - Immortal
Prodigy - Girls
Prodigy - Memphis Bell
Prodigy - Hotride
Prodigy - Wake Up Call
Prodigy - Action Radar
Probably just switch around diff tracks from same albums after that, throw in some more newer dance electro stuff

I guess it is a bit of an odd choice. It is a bit slow to begin, but I find myself getting completely immersed in the game when the song starts to get going. Anyway, yeah, great band! Only have Mirrored but will be looking for other stuff too. Not heard of Black Dice but I'll certainly listen out for them.

Right now I've got some Autechre, Juno Reactor, Hella and Radiohead in my soundtrack. Hella's math-rock (I highly recommend everyone their album Hold Your Horse Is) works very well despite it having guitars, which I usually don't find very fitting in Wipeout. Maybe that's just because I associate Wipeout with electronic music, though. :)

Ah, I NEVER select tracks in Pulse. I just set it to random or something, because fiddling with changing tracks in game leads to crashes, yeah. I do sometimes go into the options and switch some tracks off. If it saves allright, you can force the game to select your tracks more (or solely).

Hey, haven't been around in quite some time, but I just picked up Pulse (going on a long plane ride tomorrow), so I figured I'd stop by and chime in.

30 songs is a bit limiting, so I started with a 100 song playlist I use for PGR3, then used a limiting factor of "wipeout-y-ness" to trim my selection to just under 30.

Amsterdam - Paul Oakenfold
Becoming Insane - Infected Mushroom
Blackbeat - Apollo 440
Cities of the Future (Original Mix) - Infected Mushroom
Climbatize - Prodigy [A brilliant song, you should check it out]
Firestarter (Instrumental) - Prodigy [as ripped from Wipeout XL]
God is God - Juno Reactor
Hotaka (Extended Version) - Juno Reactor
Know Where To Run - Orbital [as ripped from Wipeout 3]
Labyrinth - Juno Reactor
Leave You Far Behind - Lunatic Calm
Loops of Fury - The Chemical Brothers [as ripped from Wipeout XL]
Love Island - Fatboy Slim
Masters of the Universe - Juno Reactor
Mindfields - Prodigy
Mona Lisa Overdrive - Juno Reactor [from the album Labyrinth, not the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack]
Open My Eyes/Come On - Andy Hunter
Soul Surfing - Fatboy Slim
Sphere - The Humble Brothers
Spybreak (Short One) - Propellerheads
Supermoves - Overseer
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) [Steve Angello Bootleg] - Eurythmics
Tears of the Gods - Apollo 440
Velocity Shift - Overseer
Wardogs - Juno Reactor
Xpander - Sasha [as ripped from Wipeout 3]
Masters of the Universe (Eternal Basement 12" Remix) - Juno Reactor

To Muse: No. I said in the post you referred to: ''Nine Inch Nails? ''Closer''?''
Then you said: ''Yes, which was covered brilliantly by Johnny Cash''

'Hurt' and 'Closer' are two completely different tracks. 'Closer' is from the EP numbered Halo 5, but 'Hurt' is from 'The Downward Spiral'.
I have both of those CDs, plus Pretty Hate Machine and Fragile and a few other maxi-single remixes, interview discs, blah. And the MP3 of Cash's cover of 'Hurt'.

My favourite tracks from Pure were Onyx and Mean Red, so I purchased the "MELT" album from the Cold Storage website and Themroc's album "Beyond These Things". There's a couple of tracks on both albums that don't quite work for a game like Wipeout, but most of them are perfect.

I'd never heard the albums before I put them into my custom soundtrack list, because I really wanted those tunes to be associated with the game and nothing else. So those are my recommendations.

I WAS actually way into trance in the last couple years. But u know that most of this stuff came from europe and the trance sound is now pretty dead there... they are more into the "funky electro" thing -- you've probably seen those videos of those French kids dancing on youtube? Crazy...... personally I'm more into this style -- try searching for these songs:

Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"
Groove Cutter "My Shooter"
Control One "Just A Little Bit"
Ian Carey "Redlight"
Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"

Some of these actually are sort of ROCK influenced, which is cool and I can even get my older brother to listen to it..... cuz there are guitars....

You can find these tracks various places but I started with this list on itunes ( http://electricnation2010.com/ ) and worked from there.....

Ministry of Sound all the way!
They've plenty of good CDs out there!

You've some nice tracks there on your list; but I recommend to try some of the original tracks you've only as mixes there. "Geht's noch" by Roman Flügel for example. It fits better to the racing without the lyrics of "Walking on the Moon" (imo, that is). You should also try the "Steve Angello Vs. Who Who Mix" there :)

You should be able to get more volume without distortion if you adjust it only a little. Once you are done, File > Export to MP3 (NOTE: You can adjust the MP3 quality by going into Edit > Preferences, Quality tab make sure 44100 kHz is default, File format find the Lame .dll [Download seperately, search on Google very easy to find] you store on your computer [I suggest the WINDOWS directory, very convenient for that] and then adjust bitrate [192 is CD quality])

Cheers mate, never thought about Audacity! I should get it - good program to have around in case of stuff like this.

I posted some stuff about the group "Pendulum" here:

Anyway, Here is my custom soundtrack. With Links if possible:

I have quite a few tracks from previous wipeout games. To hear almost everyone of them or post links to each of them is a bit silly, so here is a link to a user or two at youtube that has uploaded all the songs or most of them there:

- http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?p=94900#post94900 (click on "see all" and you can browse songs from not only the non-wipeout game shown!)

BTW, if you go wo wikipedia and search under the name of the wipeout game and then "(wipeout game name) soundtrack)", you can see all the songs for that game PLUS the extra songs on the album for that game. Check out the "expansion pack" info for WO: Pure too as they have info about additional tracks for various countries. Then search for the tracks at youtube!

Below are my own tunes (without mentioning the "obvious" official Wipeout Tunes.)

- The Prodigy - Full Throttle
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=NDfOm4jb4M0

(Note: This and "Speedway Theme", see below, will, or have been digitally remastered, I think on the forthcoming album, "MORE Music For the Jilted Generation: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_the_Jilted_Generation , so you might be able to find "louder" versions of both tunes on THAT album instead).

- Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=4hHsYOLETqE

Probably their most block-rockin!

- Junkie XL - Mushroom
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=QVyhG6mnK8I

This takes forever and a day to kick in but its great. Its not the same sort of stuff as XL's punk inspired debut album but its great for long parts of the game (ie: Eliminator, etc).

Ken Ishii - Future is What We Make It
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=zzxHcOo73SY

Just LOOK at the video. It just SCREAM wipeout and considering Ken Ishii has made tunes featuring vids from the creators of "Akira", then one of his tunes is a MUST in any Wipeout song list. Or else people.

Leftfield - Phat Planet
- http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=oO6fA3WIJjE

You HAVE ro have this tune. Not only does it thump the beat out of your speakers, but it was the main theme tune to "Transformers: Beast Machines", which seemed to take its design cues for Cybertron straight out of the "Wipeout" bible!

Check it:

And speaking of Transformers....

Mark Richardson - Transform(ers)

You can download the actual MP3, with his permission (check his info at youtube if you dont believe me) here:

(I still get goosebumps when the robotic voice says "Robots in Disguise", but with THIS thumping dance remix of the tune, it seems to be custom fitted to listen to while racing around the Cybertron-esqe environments of our beloved game! If only someone would make me some custom TF themed skins...sigh)

Orbital - Beelzebeat:

I think this was a bonus on my Japan-version of their album. Not sure. Nice though.

Orbital - Doctor Who:

Awww...COME ON, this choice is obvious, isn't it? Just give it a while to kick in and then you can admit that:

A/ This tune rocks
B/ Doctor Who is, when you look at it, pretty cool.
(just don't get caught humming the theme tune anywhere public, or near any females, though...)

Pendulum - Fasten Your Seatbelts:

I'm not a big Drum and Bass fan, but these tunes dont really follow any D and B rules anyway. Just give it a minute to kick in and you will love any of these guy's tracks...believe me! Let Pendulum's tracks kick in just before you get a boost over the edge of a plummet! WAHOOOOOOOOO!

Pendulum - Showdown:

No, it's NOT a rock track, trust me. Let it kick in and all will be revealed! VROOOOMMMMM-a-BOOM-BOOM!!!

Pendulum - The Other Side
- http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=zENtEumtyBI

Music vid reminds a bit of Wipeout. The song takes a bit to pick up. I might actually edit the beginning out but it BLOCK-ROCKS! You will be humming this one all day long and seeing wipeout races everytime you see circles or tunnels!

Pendulum - Visions:

Robotic voices, 8-bit PC game beepy samples, thumping base and pure adrenaline: what MORE could you ask for?

Prodigy - Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix)

My own official MP3 didn't work in my game so I had to download the youtube version, edit it a bit and spruce it up and then inject it into the veins of my memory stick! BOOOM BOOM BOOM!

Simian Mobile Disco - Sleep Deprivation:

Takes a bit to kick in, but boy, THESE GUYS ARE LOUD, eh? This tune is a bit slower than the rest, but it gets nice and loud and has a "hurry up and finish the race-almost there!" vibe to it, if you ask me.

Simian Mobile Disco - Tits and Acid:

BTW, if their is a net nanny here, the title is "T1ts and Ac1d".

8-bit beepity-beepy goodness!

Simian Mobile Disco - Wooden
- http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=zBVH7mm4ZF8

It might not be online for long (or its still processing, so Google for it if you want to. Its lovely!)

The Prodidy - Speedway
- http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=kcPyMro6g0I

A fast dance track with syth and sampled race engines all the way through it - a no-brainer for any Wipeout fan!

I'm looking for an instrumental of "Freestlyler" by the Bomfunk MC's if anyone has a copy let me know please!

I listen to (and compose) electronic music almost exclusively. My main genres of choice are trance and house, but I like some dnb and nu-skool breaks too.

But when I'm playing WipEout Pulse, my music of choice is blog house. I listen to almost everything from http://www.discodust.blogspot.com/Discodust[/url], and I download from other blogs on occasion.

I listen to blog house while racing 'cos the slower, less frantic beat and catchy chord structures help me to stop paying attention to what I am doing. I race primarily by instinct, not by making conscious decisions (i.e. 'turn here NOW')... it's like I'm at my peak performance when I'm zoned out, and blog house helps me out with that.

My playlist is always changing, but here are a few of my favorites:

SHAZAM - Pool Party
Xinobi - BMX (Moulinex Remix)
GRUM - Woah
Sidechains - Real
Sidechains - Dr. Funk
Sidechains - Monster House
Rex the Dog - Maximize 2008
Bobmo - Rock The
IAMX - Spit It Out (Designer Drugs Remix)
Metronomy - Heartbreaker (Kris Menace Remix)
Luke Dzierzek - Echo

My favorite tracks that come with the game are

DJ Fresh - The X Project (100% Pure Mix)
MIST - Smart Systems

On the Run, Any Colour You Like, Welcome to the Machine - Pink Floyd
Aerodynamic - Daft Punk
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Daft Punk

You've got a musical taste similar to mine... well, the first few... I like pink floyd, and I have daft punk on it too... but not pink floyd... especially welcome to the machine, that song just seems too slow for wipeout... it's a good song... definately!! But pink floyd... hmm... maybe I might try it out sometime haha...

I swap tracks around a lot, I'll listen and think "hmm, this would suit wipeout" bang on my memory card and do a couple of races along to it. It'd be easier if I could stream the tracks straight to my PSP from my computer, like I do with PS3.

Psyclon Nine's Crwn Thy Frnicatr album is awesome. I've put quite a bit of it in my wipeout soundtrack.

A lot of Aphex Twin's(Richard D. James) material, especially his older works, are very easy to listen to when in the middle of races. I grew up listening to his music.=]

I produce music myself as well. I've been working with digital sound and stuff for a few years now. Starting when I was around 14, and I'm 18 now. So I think I might make some stuff in FL later and see what I come up with. If I make anything decent, I'll post it or something.

On my PSP's backup directories on my Mac Mini, I've got the in-game songs ripped from the original CDAudio format on the game discs to AAC/MP3 format for the following games: Wipeout, WipeoutXL, Wip3out, and Wipeout Fusion. I also have the soundtrack for WipeoutXL that sold in the stores back in 1997 (2 copies :D), and the Tempest 2000 CD Soundtrack by Imagitec Design, Inc. Tracks from these 6 albums rotate as my 30 song playlist for Wipeout Pulse (too bad the track limit isn't larger than 30; something like 100-200 or unlimited would be more useful).

Currently playing on my playlist are the following tracks (mostly from Wipeout and WipeoutXL with a few Wip3out favorites thrown in to round out the 30) [in alphabetical order on the PSP's Music folder, not favorite order]:

1] 2097 - Source Direct (WipeoutXL soundtrack)
2] Atombomb (Straight 6 Instrumental Mix) - Fluke (WipeoutXL game)
3] Avenue - Paul Van Dyk (Wip3out game)
4] Body In Motion - Cold Storage (WipeoutXL game)
5] Cairodrome - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
6] Canada - Cold Storage (WipeoutXL game)
7] Cardinal Dancer - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
8] Cold Comfort - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
9] Control - MKL (Wip3out game)
10] Doh-T - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
11] Dust Up Beats - The Chemical Brothers (WipeoutXL game)
12] Firestarter (Instrumental) - The Prodigy (WipeoutXL game)
13] We Have Explosive (Herd Killing) - The Future Sound Of London (WipeoutXL soundtrack)
14] Know Where To Run - Orbital (Wip3out game)
15] Landmass - The Future Sound Of London (WipeoutXL game)
16] Leave Home (Underworld Mix 1) - The Chemical Brothers (WipeoutXL soundtrack)
17] Lethal Cut - Propellerheads (Wip3out game)
18] Loops Of Fury - The Chemical Brothers (WipeoutXL game)
19] Messij - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
20] Operatique - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
21] Petrol - Orbital (WipeoutXL soundtrack)
22] Surrender - MKL (Wip3out game)
23] Tentative - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
24] The Third Sequence - Photek (WipeoutXL game)
25] Tin There (Underworld Edit) - Underworld (WipeoutXL game version-longer than soundtrack version)
26] Titan - Photek (WipeoutXL soundtrack)
27] Transvaal - Cold Storage (Wipeout game)
28] V6 - Fluke (WipeoutXL game)
29] We Have Explosive - The Future Sound Of London (WipeoutXL game)
30] Xpander - Sasha (Wip3out game)

As you can see I'm partial to D'n'B and electro style music, and the classic Wipeout games' soundtracks. :D On my PSP's memory card, I also have the seven tracks I've composed/produced (several old-school electro songs, a trance song, and a couple experimental songs). These sometime get rotated into the mix also. Check my homepage link if interested in hearing my songs.

Edit 3/26/09: Just thought of another album to add to my Wipeout Pulse/HD playlists: Return to V by Roni Size. Great D'n'B compilation with 17 or 18 songs, most with fast-paced drum riddims and heavy-hittin basslines. Gotta plop this disc in my PS3 and have it get converted later tonight.

Anything which Mile Dyson has worked on - his brand of "dirty, wrong, warped and perverted electro house" is what I listen to when playing online - some of the samples he utilises in his tracks fit in perfectly with in-game sound effects... goes down well with a splif (hope I havent offended any non-tokers)...

Favourite Miles Dyson track for pulse - Live In Mexico (you have to play pulse to this to know what I'm talking about - it's the doggs danglies dudes!

There have been some awesome musical acts within the past year. A lot of them I find very worthy of being added to your wipeout soundtracks if you can.

The band Ensoph from Italy just released a new album. I added a few songs of theirs to mine.

and another band called PrOmetheus Burning just released their plague called huMANity album. It's really awesome stuff. A lot of their music is part of my track list as well.

Others like Xanopticon, Bong-Ra, and Xentrifuge are all really good too.

Check them out!!!

I like music with no drums when I play Wipeout. Makes phantom seem less like the horrific frantic nightmare it is. Current playlist is just a couple of albums by Tabata Mitsuru (he's got a MySpace if you've never heard of him) on shuffle. Oh, and a Philip Glass track:lol

Another Anime Fan? Yeah - the Initial D soundtrack is one I've always wanted anyway - but to know that it works with Puls so well... Whoa - You lucky pilot.

Another addition to my playlist is now a track called "Modan" by the "Yoshida Brothers" - aint hardcore, more traditional japanese type soundtrack but its awesome with pulse... dunno, must be that crazy 2string guitar type riff noise they have - it makes me stronger, better, faster, hungrier - strange for such a nice saounding track...

Is he Japanese? Think we may feel the same about the phantom modes - less frantic beats make me race better too... Which is why I like the Yoshida Bros - sounds really cool, and with minimal beats... Banging! Especially when you hear things like the in-game voice giving it "contender eliminated"... I just love it maaaaan! :P

He is Japanese. He plays in loads of bands, but they're mostly noisy rock and stuff. His solo stuff is really spaced out and minimal though, so ideal for Wipeout (especially if you've been blazing it). Check out his MySpace, there's music on there. Yoshida Bros? Don't think I've heard any. I'll keep an ear out for that.

@ MrSmadSmartAlex: Yes, perfect for blazing - just downloaded it... I'm pretty sure you'll like the Yoshida Brothers... They've actually featured on some anime movies, I think Samurai Champloo (favourite anime series, then cowboy bebop and GitS)...

Thanks for the races Smad - phantom class is just too much fun dude...;)

OMG I've just downloaded the entire Miles Dyson Electro House mixes? - the tracks with the really dirty warped out samples in them? I remember when I saw Miles live in a club and the girls were just throwing their knickers at him... I saw so many flanges that night it was just amazing...

And now - I have it all on my PSP for pulse! This is just too much fun now!

Artist: Miles Dyson
Current favourite track: Gett off (you will end up eliminating someone - or wishing you had, this track is just cutting it for me!)

1) London Elektricity - Different Drum (Photek Remix): this is a track i found at some drum'n'bass torrent site 2) Sunshine Soundtrack - The Surface of the Sun 3) Thievery Corporation - Warning Shots 4) Mos Def - Do It Now 5) Chris Clarke - Vengeance Drools 6) Squarepusher - Beep Street 7) Squarepusher - Tundra: I had to edit this track with a wave editor to make it WipEout suitable 8 ) Sasha - Xpander: everybody seems to have this track on their playlists... I'm getting kinda bored of it... It'll be one of the first to go when I find something new 9) Photek - Trans 7: Rupert Parkes rules 10) Photek - Terminus 11) Photek - Sidewinder (the remix from the latest album, Form & Function Vol II): I had to edit this track pretty heavily as well. There's a big long section in the middle that really throws the concentration off... 12) Klute - Never Never 13) Mylo - Paris Four Hundred: this track is just temporary, getting SO bored with it. 14) The Chemical Brothers - Loops of Fury: classic cut from XL 15) Mylo - Drop the Pressure: heavily edited by me... works well. 16) Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy, Pappy Mix: "I want your soul. I will eat your soul." 'nuff said. 17) Photek - C Note (from Pure) 18 ) Four Tet - As Serious As Your Life: there's a bunch of other Four Tet I've been meaning to edit so that it's WipEout compatible... just haven't gotten around to it. 19) Photek - T'Raenon 20) Special Forces - Sidewinder: Special Forces is also Rupert Parkes, aka Photek 21) Special Forces - Rinsa 22) Squarepusher - A Journey to Reedham 23) The Rapture - Don Gon Do It: It's a good song. Stop making fun of me. 24) Ladytron - Black Car: Mira Arroyo, if you're reading this... If you ever need a good spanking, just let me know...

That's all I've got right now. 24 tracks... a handful of which I've had to customize myself. Keeping an ear out for 6 more tracks... looking to replace one of the Mylo songs... I'm all ears... suggestions?

I do like the stuff Photek produces. My favourite Photek track is "Hidden Camera" one of Photek's first tracks too...

I liked the way he used the sample from the shutter speed noise from a camera in the track - how subliminal was that? And that kinda use of everyday sounds in music was way ahead of its' time back then - Now well over 10 years ago.

I was listening to a track by Mista Bishi, another DnB type artist/producer... And a track of his which I've been rinsing on wipeout called "Printer Jam" - where the bulk of the track is made up of printer noises which have been sampled and manipulated to give a somewhat cheeky edged take on the track - works with wipeout, but too hectic for some Phantom challenges online lol
