Here's mine.

I just got in June and I love it. Just like Assegai: amazing handling, quick around corners, speeds up quick, light and tough.

You do not mess with this car. It`s the Goteki 45 of the highway - it takes real skill to pilot this through a tight space, I can tell you.

My ride is currently my feet, bipedal locomotion, maybe 0.2hp at the most, not particularly good power-to-weight ratio, I've had my license for ages but can't afford a car yet.

I used to have a personalised Piranha number plate (WipEout 2097 era).
As plates only allow 6 letters / numbers it was spelt PRANHA.
I had a 12" vinyl Piranha logo sticker made up which was affixed to the rear of the vehicle.
I ran it on my wreck of a Honda CRX. I also bought the rights for but have never used WPEOUT.

once I buy an own car, my number plate will definitely be reading wipeout. seeing as we have a letter for each individual city at the beginning of the number plate, and I live in Vienna - Wien in german - the number plate is gonna read:

W-1P30UT

I hope noone has the same idea before I get to it...

My ride is the local traffic system. It's comfrtable, reliable, fast and lets you play while driving. Anyone with a bike or car who can top that? ;-)

I also rely on public trasport, but it's quite different here. It makes me WISH I could drive...

element42
22nd September 2005, 09:48 AM
Being able to drive is nice; owning a car is not so good:
1) Constant increase in traffic but not enough investment in infrastructure, especially parking space - seriously, a huge percentage of traffic in cities is due to people driving round looking for somewhere to park. (well, this is true in the UK.)
2) Price of petrol
3) Safety issues - inside the car is okay now, but hit anyone at above 30 and it ain't good news.
4) Pollution, and use of a non-renewable resource that is a cause of war
5) It's really f*cking annoying when the bastard thing breaks down.
I used to have a mini (nb: I'm 6'4"). My wheel fell off when I was going round a roundabout once. It broke down at least once a week. Once the windscreen wipers stopped in the middle of a storm eight miles from home, had to drive with my head out of the window. I hate cars  . Luckily I now live in a city where I can walk or cycle everywhere I need to, and public transport is great.

I drive a lovely MY2000 Honda S2000.

"I've made a lot of special modifications myself..." :D (JDM black chrome badges, Apex'i RSM D1 edition, ITG filter, Spoon Kevlar snorkel, Alpine head unit with iPod adaptor, etc...)

Silverstone colour, 240bhp, RWD, 2 litre natually aspirated block, red leather interior...

... I LOVE my car!

Could post piccies up later, if anyone's interested.

Previously, I owned a Mitsubishi FTO (when they were cool and uncommon!) :P

Oh, and Kansas - NICE RIDE!!! 8)

Seek100
22nd September 2005, 02:00 PM
Please do Sumimasen, I always like to see modded jap cars, the S2000 is a favourite design of mine, it's just a shame so many of the modded cars on the net look like the car equivalent of the Whore of Babylon. When I eventually get together the money I'm gonna get an S15 Nissan Silvia Spec-R Aero (I think that's the full title) imported from Japan, they're getting quite old though, think they went out of production 6 years ago now.

element, most of those problems can be easily solved:
1. is the fault of the government for wasting our copious taxes on the NHS and income support, not to mention the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that should be spent on something important like transport infrastructure.
2. is again fairly obviously the fault of the government, tax on the 98ron 'super' unleaded fuel is about 80%, tax on normal unleaded - 95ron is about 85% of the actual cost, the petrol station only actually take between 15-20% of the money they charge you for petrol, the rest goes straight to all the government's worthless spending.
3. pay attention to the road, my brother has had a license for about 12 years now and has never even caused an accident with another car let alone run anyone over, the most he's done that was his own fault was scrape his alloys on a kerb by accident. This is simply a case of drive carefully and you wont cause accidents. If everyone drove that attentively there would be almost no crashes ever.
4. pollution, er, by a hybrid if you're really that bothered about it. I hear Honda are replacing the NSX supercar with a hybrid engined supercar, imagine that a hybrid with 300hp! 8O
5. Don't buy an old Mini, or indeed any old car, most of them will break down, modern car reliability is very good, even the Italians (Fiat, Alfa-Romeo, etc.) and Lotus have sorted themselves out in that regard and they're famous for having horrific reliability.

element42
22nd September 2005, 02:36 PM
'easily solved'? I'll let you persuade the government to implement your reforms, then . but...
3) I would argue that it is actually impossible to pay attention for every moment that you are driving. Furthermore, while there are undeniably some excellent drivers on the road, and the majority drive perfectly safely, a significant proportion are more unpredictable...
4) See below. But yes, the pollution problem is solvable.
5) Not all of us can afford a nice new car. And even new ones can break down.

Furthermore, consider the words of the late, great Douglas Adams:
"Bypasses are devices which allow some people to drive from point A to point B very fast whilst other people dash from point B to point A very fast. People living at point C, being a point directly in between, are often given to wonder what's so great about point A that so many people of point B are so keen to get there, and what's so great about point B that so many people of point A are so keen to get there. They often wish that people would just once and for all work out where the hell they wanted to be." :)

Seek100

They could be easily solved but for the idiocy of socialism, you'd need a very Liberal government to get rid of things like high petrol tax or the NHS (I mean Liberal in the proper sense of the word not like it's used in the UK at current by the Liberal-Democrat's who're worse than Labour).

As for the price, a nice new car can be gotten more cheaply than you think, if you want a big luxury saloon or an off-roader then obviously you need a lot of money but no one really needs those kind of cars, they're a luxury for when you have the money. As for reliability even ten year old cars now (1995) are highly reliable compared to cars from previous decades, given proper care a breakdown should be rare.

Finally I know where the hell I want to be, and it's not A, B, or C. It is D, unfortunately no one's built a bypass going there yet so I'm stuck going from A to B for the moment.

Dude, Ford are American, and they're all without exception lame. I simply don't get the obsession with massive gas-guzzlers with humungous power - which they need to shift their fat bodies around. True performance comes from a small low-output engine and a lightwieight chasis/shell combination, you get the same relative power (bhp/tonne) with far superior handling and you have a much wider wallet at the end of the week from all the petrol you didn't have to buy.

684bhp is impressive I must say, may I ask - what's the kerb-weight? I wanna figure out the bhp/tonne figure. And how fast does 0-100kmh (62.5mph) come up?

Thanassos
23rd September 2005, 02:57 AM
0-100 in under 5 secs (dont have exact but 4.7ish)
0-180 in around 11

283/4 KW per tonne (381 HP) At the rear wheels.

Ive herd all these arguements about less fuel, better handleing, easier to park, meh

Ive driven a holden astra before but i like this cars handling much better, its accelration aint to flash hot but top speed and the feeling you get when the turbo kicks in is the best thing ever, although fastest ive been in it is only around the 260ish KPH mark im sure it go much faster :)

Needs new brakes (Still using stock brakes built for 270 KW at flywheel) new shocks would be good too :)

I've always enjoyed a smooth ride, hence I drive a Citroën Xantia (http://www.kallman.net/filer/xantia_and_xantia.jpg) (mine's the red one, the green one belongs to my father).

I too drive a Citroen Xanthia 1.8. Mine has a dark blue color.

Before that I owned a Volvo 340. This car was a tank! I had about 5 or 6 people crashing into it over all the years but the car was never damaged seriously while the others had to buy new ones.
But the coolest thing about my Volvo was the "variomatic". I could (theoretically) drive backwards at the same speed as forward. I once tried it out on an old airfield, but as the speed'o'meter got up to 70 km/h I decided to stop because I nearly turned the car over!

This thread is oogle-worthy. Damn you people with money!!!!

My ride is an '03 vauxhall corsa 1.0 with a sequential gearbox.
Pick up a copy of GT4 and select the "aruba blue" or "arubablau" colour to drive it for yourself.
Even though the one in the game is a 1.4 engine, I have uprated stuff in the engine. The end result is about the same as the game car.

Thought about a feisar vinyl, wipeout vinyl, VXR vinyl, a sonic the hedgehog vinyl, a tribal vinyl..... and then I just thought about the fact that it is still a corsa, no matter how much dressing up it gets.

Oh, and about the so called 'car tuning'....yeah, i think that not only Germany and Austria are treating it as a 'sport'. There thousands of amateurs in Poland who think that sticking a few vinyls on the hood, and attatching ridiculously huge spoilers to their cars makes their cars look so cool that you piss your ankles of envy just by looking at them.
