View Full Version : What games do you play other than Wipeout?

rdmx
17th February 2007, 11:44 AM
Of course I do.

I've been playing Unreal Torunament 2004 and *cringe* Counter-Strike for a little while now. And I'm not half bad at it either, as my attachment will attest. Also Ace Combat X but on easy ^^

Do you play anything other than Wipeout? (I'm talking to you Arnie, you live and breathe wipeout :o )

I must reckon i did infidelity to Wipeout years ago but now facts are proscribed ;) i can let out my secret : i was a huge fan of Enemy Territory.
I liked the way you need to work as a team to complete various missions on vast maps. I wasn't too bad at that either

Recently I've completed Killzone Liberation, almost completed Vice City Stories, and I'm on my second play through of Ace Combat X - top game :+

So long as the track for Asayyeah's weekly challenge doesn't annoy me, I keep going back to Pure to take part, though. :)

I actually play a lot of games that aren't Wipeout. Most recent are Eastside Hockey Manager and Eternal Lands.
Here's a litlle list:
Champions RTA, BG: Dark Alliance 2, MGS 1&2, ESPN Nhl 2k4, Worms 3D.

Anyways, i'm not gonna put every ps1, Dreamcast and Xbox game that I have played so I just say this: I have played a lot of games and only three of them were/are Wipeouts.

I can't get enough of the original Doom on the 360 (whenever I get the chance to switch it on). Such an awesome game.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus is also a favourite of mine. The Sonic series is possibly my favourite game series besides WipEout. :)

NASCAR 07 and since I just got rid of my 360 thats about it besides Wipeout for the moment, I play more NASCAR than Wipeout these days :dizzy

I have to admit, I'm not someone who finds driving around a oval 300 times enthralling:o

I wish I had a 360. None of my Ps2 games are really exciting at the moment.
I played a tiny bit of ET but couldn't stand the whole regaining experience points when you quit a server thing.:frown: Plus the ultra cheap knives.

FEAR Combat is too random. Just like that comment. The games I play nowadays are always multiplayer online. If it doesn't involve blowing someones face off, I'm not that interested. Thank god I'm not the one paying the bills!:D School also makes a huge difference to what I play.

Second playthrough of AC as well, trying to unlock all missions.
Gryphus 1 down! Do you read me Gryphus 1! Sir!
I can't believe they made such a terrifying weapon! Sir! I mean, Gryphus 1...
My son's a big fan of yours! Well, me too.
Gotta love that cheesy dialogue. :D

Other than Wipeout, I play a lot of Call Of Duty 2. I'm in a competitive clan for it and play in the Euro Domination and Clanbase ladders.

Also like the Burnout series when it isn't frustrating the **** out of me, and I'm playing PoPoLoCrois at the moment.

Since the commodore 64 I have been playing so many games I don't even remember them all. But some of the best games on this machine are: Oils well, Boulder dash, International karate 2, Impossible mission and Barbarians of course, best chopping head move ever :D

For Sega Mega drive I have been playing: Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal combat, the rest I don't remember.

For the PS1: I have been playing all GT versions, all Crash Bandicoot versions, all Tekken versions, all Driver versions.

For the PS2: I liked GT3 so much, SSX Tricky, Timesplitters, WRC, Tekken Tag Tournament, Jak and Daxter.

For the PSP: I am playing Locoroco, Daxter, Tiger Woods PGA tour, Tekken Dark Resurrection.

These games represent a small glimpse of what I have been playing.

some of the best games on this machine are: Oils well, Boulder dash

BoulderDash!!! Probably my all time favourite PC game! Currently I have Boulder Dash Treasure Pleasure on PC but it's just not the same as that original beauty!
Also I play some Mario Forever on PC.

PS1- all it gets used for is Wipeout, now!
PS2 - WO3SE, and I am just getting into ICO.

There is not enough time in the day to take away for more games!

Task
18th February 2007, 05:23 PM
Mad shout out for ICO!

Beat that one a long time ago, but that was probably the start of my serious PS2 gaming.

Currently working on Culdcept (PS2), Nightmare Of Druaga (PS2), Luxor : Amun Rising (PC) and Bookworm Adventures (PC).

Finished off Steambot Chronicles (PS2) a bit back, that was good.

Hmm, from that list it looks like WO is the only game I play with no RPG elements. I'm not sure what to think about that.

Unreal Tournament 2004, Quake 4, Thief 3 and Deus Ex (all PC) are my regulars. I've completed them all several times but they NEVER get boring. :D

The Sonic series is possibly my favourite game series besides WipEout. :)i also like the genesis/megadrive sonics most. im somehow grown up with them. every two or three months i take one and play it thru all zones collecting all emeralds :P i also enjoy sonic CD very much - and apart from that all the "beta" and fanmade-beta roms flying around - its really amazing. a quite simple game, but so amazing!

other games i play:
- panzer dragoon saga (saturn, excellent on every enemy)
- dark saviour (saturn, all four parallels)
...and thats it. i dont play very often, mostly only on weekends or even more seldom :/

on my pc there are currently the old shooters which i play now and then. currently quake and quake2 are loaded :P

Also a big Sonic fan here. Have been using my GBA as my portable console at the moment to play the Sonic Advance series as well as some other old skool 2D platformers.

At home ive been sucked into the online side of Gears Of War which is keeping me pretty occupied. Ive also just started Okami for the PS2 and am replaying Knights Of The Old Republic in between. :)

I love ace combat: the belkan war :D but find that ace difficulty is too easy :( - I also find phantom on wipeout too easy and slow :(. I also play Rainbox Six Vegas on XboxLive :D and project gotham racing 3. And, if I feel like it, I'll play fifa street 2, or better still, I'll play it for real. :)

I fired up Ace Combat Zero tonight - what can I say, bloody brilliant! :D

The flight model and physics are even better than AC04, if that's possible, and the wingman stuff actually makes sense this time around. I'm now gutted that I've waited so long to play this game - AC5 really dented my confidence in the series - it was only Ace Combat X that's got me playing again.

Really happy with ACZ six missions in - thanks for the heads up, Andy. :+

andy
11th March 2007, 12:54 AM
Ive never played AC4 so I dont know how difficulties are set out. On ace combat the hardest difficulty you start with is hard. Complete the game on hard and you unlock expert difficulty - one missile will kill while enemies take two. Beat expert and you get Ace. This is mostly Expert but with much harder AI.

Ive been playing since it came out and the Ace sqraudrons are really fun. ^^ Especially the last group. Btw, what ace sqaud did you fight first?

Too bad I cant play online.

Hope you enjoy it

Grun squadron, I think their name was.

I completed AC04 in ace mode, shooting down every ace pilot at that level, too, so you could say I'm a veteran at the harder levels.

andy
11th March 2007, 08:03 PM
Yep, Grun squadron are good. Those flares can be very annoying.

I'd recommend flying against rot team though as when you beat them you can buy the eurofighter typhoon which is immense and easily my favourite. I've done well over 999 sorties in my eurofighter and my sortie count has turned to pacmen and ghosts (damn you namco!!!).

infoxicated
11th March 2007, 08:21 PM
heh! :D

I thought Grun squadron were okay - not too hard, considering I was in one of the three default planes (the one with the big numbers on top), which has the turning circle of a barge.

I've bought an F/A 18 before mission 4A which, along with the F-22 and AC04's X-02, is probably my favourite plane, so I'll see how I get on with that. Looking forward to seeing what the X-02 flies like with ACZ's flight model, but from the FAQ it looks like I have a couple of runs through the game to go before obtaining that.

I take it that your ace style dictates which squadrons you get?

So far I'm ranking pretty high in the Knight area - I guess it's because I've not been hitting yellow targets, plus I've been letting the odd enemy plane get away once they've been "neutralised". If I played it the way I play AC04 (the only thing left at the end is a smouldering outline of the terrain I happened to be fighting over), then I guess I'd be in the Mercenary area, instead. :D

andy
12th March 2007, 10:02 PM
That's how I play. ^^

That's right, your ace style determines which ace sqaudron you fly against each time you fly at the round table. I was a knight first as well. The game lasts much longer because you have to replay the game as different ace styles to fly against all of the ace sqaudrons.

I also think Grun are easy as they don't gang up against you as quickly as the later sqaudrons do and they don't really have an offensive special weapon. Then again they wouldn't put a rock solid squadron at the start of the game in order to give new players a chance. It's only when you start flying at the higher diffficulties and on the gauntlet that their skills start to shine through.

My favourite teams to fight are gault, espada and wizard. Also, the little intros for ace sqaudrons are just plain classy. :D

My favourite planes are the Eurofighter, the SU 47 Berkut, SU 37 Terminator and the MiG 31. :)

Ace Combat series, Grand Theft Auto series, Worms series, Socom (psp), just got into UT (unreal tournament), sometimes Doom 1/2 ...I think that covers it all. :pc

EDIT:

I love my classic games too - Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Sonic the Hedgehog, Road Rash, Tony Hawk series, Pong ;), Asteriods, Q*Bert, Tetris, Tempest, Breakout, Pitfall, Yar's Revenge - the list could go on (I love video games :D)

Medal of Honor and Call of Duty!!!

Right now I'm trying to get into FFXII, but I'm struggling. It's stupid to force yourself to play/ like a game, but I only try so hard to justify the money I spent on it. Although I finished every FF since Legends 2 on the GB, I just can't get warm with XII. 25€ and it's yours ;)

other games I switch back and forth to over the course of a day:
Virtua Tennis 3 (psp)
Archer McLean's Mercury (psp)
Every Extend Extra (psp)
Guitar Hero I+II(ps2)
ProEvo 5 (xbox)
Civ IV (pc)
Bit Generations - dot stream (gba)

In the nights it's mostly WO3 and watching our boys (Austria) at the U20 World Cup in Canada.

And yes, it's my holidays right now, in case someone wonders about the spare time I got at my hands. 3 months baby, from july to october \o/

P.S. What pisses you of with EEE Chill? I only managed to play through it one single time. Struggle sooner or later on any boss, and I don't wanna use continues much due to the fact to unlock stages for caravan mode and of course high scores (which is what we play those games for, right?)

I've always been into the Football Manager (ex-Championship Manager) series and go through periods where I will play it religiously haha

Also play a lot of Lumines II, Virtua Fighter 5, Pro Evolution Soccer series, Castlevanias on DS... really looking forward to Pulse obviously, GTAIV, BioShock and Fallout 3.

Play a lot of different games across a variety of genres, can't remember them all off top of head though!

Oh ya!!! FFX is great, if only my machine wouldn't have got all screwed up and quite playing PS2 games!!! It just means more Wipeout though...

I'm stuck on like the third stage... and I'm pissed off because it never seems like the game provides you with enough silver matter to knock out the boss!!! I'm like "c'mon, c'mon!!!! Give me some silver crap you peace of $#!+!!!! :D

@ Hellfire - Let me know how you go with X3... My brother bought it last year and I played it briefly but the system specs appeared to be too high for me in order to get the thing running nicely... it also seemed to have a fairly steep learning curve and I remember reading somewhere that back around when it was released it was fairly buggy!

Tell me if its worth the investment in time and ill dust it off the shelf :)

G'Kyl
18th July 2007, 06:47 AM
If you don't mind me jumping in... You've heard right, the game is pretty demanding on hardware requirements (maybe not so much as it was then, but if you haven't got a better system since then...), but yes, it's well worth it! The universe is immensly huge and looks awesome - probably the best looking space you can get these days. About the learning curve: It IS steep, but give it a day's work and you'll be set to take on whatever business you want to get into. The thing is: X3 is time consuming as hell. It's neither fast paced nor does it make you rich within a short period of playing time. And about bugs: It should run well if you install the patches they released.

Ben

angelino
18th July 2007, 07:38 AM
Not at all, G'Kyl, thanks for the info :) Sounds like something that I might give a second look... I definitely dug the setting and general vibe I got from the game. As I said it was just the system reqs plus what seemed to be a pretty daunting amount of time needed to fully understand all the ins and outs.. but I'll give it a crack when I get my new laptop for sure!

Hellfire_WZ
18th July 2007, 04:24 PM
It's patched up to version 2.0.0.3 I think and they say almost all of the bugs are fixed. I must have spent several months playing X2 and loved it, hopefully this one is as good.

Learning curve is like a brick wall, you're thrown straight in and expected to experiment with everything until you find something that works for you. I'll probably start off trading or bounty hunting until I can get some factories or complexes together. Usually once you've got a number of profitable factories running you'll have a virtually limitless credit supply. Then just get a fleet of M2s and M1s and rip up anything you like :)

I play only seven games, and I'm very strict about it.

1) WipEout Pure (no other WipEout games at the moment)
2) Bemani, namely IIDX and DDR/ITG. I'm actualy training to be tournament ready for IIDX and DDR/ITG. I'm probably more enthusiastic about IIDX than I am for WipEout but it's not by much.
3) Guilty Gear (latest version, which is currently Accent Core)
4) Kingdom of Loathing
5) Cave Story (currently doing a 3hp minimal item run)
6) Misc. console game if I'm hanging out at my bf's house or at a friends house, etc
7) Misc. indie game to keep up with the scene. I'm more into indie games than mainstream games, save the exceptions of Guilty, WipEout, and IIDX/DDR/ITG. I typically find this game from www.tigsource.com

I used to avidly play F-Zero GX, PSO for GC (never went online), and few others here and there.

Also, I've seen Ico mentioned a few times, and figured I'd mention that I'm a bit of a connoisseur for games, and can recommend some great esoteric stuff, such as Ico, Rez, Every Extend Extra, doujin shmups, Phantom Dust, DoomRL, and many others.

Fired up Fantavision (http://www.spieletipps.de/dyn/pub/packshot_img/000/000/003/890/120/3890.jpg) (PS2) this morning because I couldn't sleep anymore due to the heat. Haven't played this for about 2 years. Amazing puzzle game. Requires quick thinking and reflexes and is the most viscerally rewarding experience. Anybody lucky enough to own this extremely rare 1st gen PS2 title should get it out and start playing again! =)

Will go and check out some 2nd hand stores today. See if I can get myself some PSX, DC or N64 games.

The topic says other than WipEout, ah well...

I got a cheap copy of Gradius V and am totally into it right now. Although it reminds me a little too much of Ikaruga, which is odd since Treasure is usually known of making games with unique styles. Also, as I mentioned in another topic I started Rapid Racer on PSX again (of course with a negcon).

I think I'll finally contribute to this topic.

I haven't been playing many games recently, when I have it's been Pure or SE (WO1 is bust). But!
In the past I have been a fan of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Series.
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is the best nostalgia game for me.
Jedi Academy was cheesy and cartoony, but fun, especially in Multiplayer. But Outcast was a bit moody - however, overlooking the boredom of not being able to wield a lightsaber at the beginning, it's a great game.

Really looking forward to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, looks like it'll be a blast. May have to be a PS3 in the end to play it sadly, but at least there's HD and PS3 Wipeout!1111one11oneeleven

I love my Sci-Fi, and to prove it, I can tell you that I love StarCraft. I can think of few things that can better the experience of thrashing a Korean war god with a sneaky Zerg Rush. Or something. (StarCraft II soon, yay!)

Yay for Escape Velocity too! Started off as a Mac-Only title (weird for a system with a game deficiency) and then came Nova for the PC. Yay for Sci-Fi and relatively open ended games!

For a while in my shameful past, I indulged in the oddities of 'RuneScape'. Got quite good at it too, level 93/94 out of a maximum level of 126. Looking at the highscores now, all my old friends are now among the highest ranking players. Odd, I'd be up there if I still played it.

Go even further back and I can pick up a few murky memories of the Need for Speed series. Ah, I loved NFS3 and NFS4, and when it came out NFS6. Porsche Unleashed was just shocking though, a game devoted to a brand. That would be like a Wipeout with blatant adverts. ;)

Ha, well, there are my Game Periods of the past. The mighty eons of discovery in the internet world and my fascinations of each of these games. (To a lesser extent with RuneScape, I have to say).

other than wipeout? i pretty like hitman series, many fps such as half life and doom, racing like gt and outrun2 (one of the best arcade games), and old beat'em up like tekken(its amazing psp version) and mortal kombat.
I'm also fan of the two "ac" games: ace combat and armoured core..

Freespace (well what did you expect from me?)

Other than that I don't really play any games, not even wipeout any more, I'm usually busy with my latest blender creation and when I need a break I'll either watch TV, read a book or go on freespace because it doesn't involve booting up another game playing thing. Hell, I can't even watch CGI programs any more because I keep thinking about how they animated the characters.
School holidays are meant to be a rest, I feel even more tired now than before I started them.

i havent played Ace Combat, any series except i think a lot of years ago in Playstation a couple of times, but i recommend Lock On, specially if you like modern combat jet simulators, and i use this controller (i do have a controller fetish, but it adds a lot to the immersion in a game), i LOVE IT:

http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/cougarpics.php

if flying a sim is this different to a jet game i cannot imagine the difference of a sim and reality; after doing some tandem paragliding, you cant beat the feeling of being in the air, now i need that sensation in hypersonic speed!!! :D

I used to do Ace Combat (since 7 years old or so!), but the recent games are now just missile and special-weapon spam. No one even thinks of actual dogfighting anymore...which was what made the series fun.

It's not anymore...so with that out of the way, aside from an occasional Ratchet and Clank, Wipeout is the only game I play anymore.

This weekend I've played a lot of Mario Kart Wii, even some online. Last night I dreamt I was racing Zargz in Mario Kart Wii (and lost, of course). Quite funny, especially since I've never raced Zargz at all...

I don't play games very often anymore, but when the mood arises I like playing Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 3, Jak 2 & 3 and at times World of Warcraft (although this game gets ruined for me by the big amount of assholes playing it). Once I am able to buy a PS3 GTA IV will probably be out, can't wait for that!

That is funny! I also played Mario Kart this weekend. On friday night to be exact. I was joining my brother inlaw ZBO1972. I have a MII on his WII and it is called Mat-ijs. In the beginning of the night I was finishing at the back of the pack, but later on I got the hang of powersliding and jumpboosting. I think it is a lot like Wipeout, gameplay wise. Otherwise it looks sooooo different. I had a lot of fun with Mario Kart, it really is a funny game and the online lobby is working well.

We also played Kororimpa, I am not sure if it is written like that? But anyway, it is a game with a ball, you have to tilt the controller to move the whole enviroment and then the ball moves in it. Very very nice game. A little bit like Kula World and Mercury Meltdown, but with this tilting system it is so much fun.

Hey i have also been playing mario kart all weekend, ur right it does have a lot in common with wipeout, its probably the only other racing game i play with a smile on my face!!. The online game is fantastic too!! and the wheel is suprisingly intuitive to use. If anyone wants my wii code its 7870 8939 9786 1804, my mario kart code is 4038 6141 3707 :) i also like the Silent Hill games, Bioshock on the 360 is excellent, Res evil 4 had me hooked for months, but the game ive played most (other than wipeout) is probably Tetris!!! absolute perfection.

On the PC I usually play Unreal Tournament 3 (Not very good at it, but I truly enjoy the Scavenger and running over people :g), sometimes Heroes 3 or Warhammer 40k Soulstorm (in VPN with friends thanks to Hamachi ;)).

On the PS3: Warhawk, sometimes WipEout (The very first one). I plan on getting HD day 1. :) Not touching the PS3 much these days I have to admit. Tha's because I do not have the time... :/

On the PSP: WipEout PulsE, WipEout PurE, WipEout 3 SE (I don't have the disc but I don't think I can find it anywhere in North America... 'Specially if I cannot buy online :/), WipEout, Rollcage and Vigilante 8 2nd Offence (Anyone remember that one? ^^).

... and Vigilante 8 2nd Offence (Anyone remember that one? ^^).

One of my early favourites; I have it for PSX and for Dreamcast [which is the best version]. I also like the original Vigilante 8, and have it for PSX. The Dreamcast version of V8 scnd ed also contains all the tracks of the original V8. They're activated by a code entry.

Darkdrium777
16th April 2008, 01:43 AM
Damn Lance do you remember that code!? I tried editing the ISO I had ripped from my CD since all the V8 levels are in a folder called V8 on the CD, and the V82ndOff levels are in the folder called LEVELS, but I couldn't move them to the LEVELS folder since the image was read only. Besides I am unsure if it would have worked...
I know you could activate them by switching CDs on the PSX, but since I don't have the original V8 and since I am playing on PSP, I would really like that code :) I want to play those levels so badly xD

Lance
16th April 2008, 02:12 AM
I don't remember the codes, though I probably have them stored on the failing harddrive in my other computer. You may still be able to find them online, which is how I got them in the first place. I think that code was something very simple and direct, like 'oldlevels', or something like that.

TheFrostE
16th April 2008, 03:49 AM
ohhhhh man vigilante 8, lance you ARE the man haha, i miss my dreamcast, used to be on bomberman online and powerstone 2 everyday for hours and hours with my brother, and cant forget my all time favorite, phantasy star online, which i still play on the free servers now for PC

Darkdrium777
16th April 2008, 04:18 AM
Allright I'll try every combination I can think of, even spelling it backwards xD (like LLA_KCOLNU for every car lol)
Thanks Lance. :) Because searching online only yielded what I thought the result would be: you have to switch CDs... How am I gonna do that on PSP?

EDIT: OldLevels does not work unfortunately... :(

Lance
16th April 2008, 07:41 PM
FrostE, I have the original PowerStone, but never played the second one.

----

DarkD: yeah, the codes all had to be ten letters and were pretty much all spelled backwards. I'll have a look online today and see if I can find the codes, although it's been so many years since that V8 2ndO was released that they may not be on the old cheatcode sites.

edit: found one that says the code is OLD_LEVELS

Darkdrium777

I will try again but I'm pretty sure it's what I wrote yesterday and it didn't work...

Lance
17th April 2008, 02:47 AM
Then it may be that the old levels were not included for the PSP version. Rip.

Darkdrium777
17th April 2008, 03:26 AM
What you say unfortunately makes no sense since the Vigilante 8 2nd Offense I have on my PSP is ripped directly from the Vigilante 8 2nd Offense CD I have using PowerISO and converted for PSP using PopStation GUI. So it has the old V8 levels on it. Just gotta find a way to get them if it is possible. :brickwall
If not a password inside the game, maybe edit the ISO file before I convert it.

EDIT: Tried it again, on PSXfin1.3 this time. It does not work either backwards or forward... The edited ISO doesn't even boot in PSXfin so ... :/ Ah well...

A bit of Everybodys Golf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAasxXFOcfY) action on the PS3. I really recommend this game while waiting for HD. It has amazing and bonkers online lobbies where you create a little "Mii" type avatar and wander about and mess about in a mini Playstation-home kind of world, while you wait for tournaments to start. Online is just incredibly friendly too. Brilliantly supported, and more gameplay than you can shake a Sixaxis at.

ya , well i played the demo and read reviews on release, and that was more than enough to steer me away from it, the demo played like an awful halo knock-off, and the dialogue butchered the game by your comrades saying things like "meet back at the base...then we can get some chow!" (while he points at you and smiles) and worst of all "move up men, theres a valley full of bad guys up ahead, take em out." who in the hell uses the term "bad guys" in a videogame anymore. come to find out its just a bunch of spanish speaking rebels...oooooo very intense. the pistol shoots like a sniper rifle, all the gun scopes are the same, and the machine guns all essentially do the same thing, i played it on hard and it was like i was playing on easy. the game blows worse than the turok for ps3 did. end of story

lunar

HSG online is great stuff, Frances, and very professionally done. Despite the game having different names each side of the Atlantic the whole world seems to be able to play each other except the Japanese, for some reason.
Basically you create a mad little avatar character and enter the lobbies, which are unique little worlds like swimming pool-sides, japanese restaurants and campsites, where you wander about and interact with things and chat to people and even play a simple game of football while you wait to play golf.

In the lobby you can either enter pre-arranged tournaments on the servers, with up to 50 players, or set up your own match rooms, where you can see the other golfers as they play. Best thing is it`s very very friendly, however tense the online matches become, and I haven`t seen any "trash talk" at all, though as expected the top players are :eek good.

Online enables you to win trophies and prizes like extra gear for your lobby character or abilities for the main golfer characters. Also offline feats of golfing mastery like holes in one and albatrosses can win extra clothes and equipment for your lobby character. You can even get to your PSN friends list on the XMB from the in-game lobby.

Drift mode on NFS PRO street is different than Carbon cause you've got to give the clutch a quick flick just like in real life, to loose traction on the rear to commence the drift. Fun **** to do on PRO street as well as real life.

Hmm. Wondering, does anybody drive one or know somebody who owns one of those old school Toyota Corolla AE86. The last RWD Corolla Variant with the 1.6 engine.

I loved that game, brings back flashbacks of 1999. One of the circuits on that game called Hot Air Skyways reminds me of that Sol2 circuit on Wipeout Pure. Go too fast and you'll fall of the edge and you're ****ed:lol. Music is so old school. love it.

That was the last Crash Bandicoot game by Naughty Dog. Its a shame that Naughty Dog sold the naming rights on the Crash Bandicoot series, cause nearly every title after that became ****. Another Playstation original classic lost. Thank God Wipeout didnt suffer the same fate. I honestly thought that Wipeout Fusion was going to be the last Wipeout title ever for a while after 2001. But it didnt, I was ecstatic when i heard about the developments for Wipeout Pure as a release title for the PSP.

I really liked the last Metal Gear Solid (With the boss fight in the field of flowers) but I'm still on the fence for this one. I honestly don't know. I don't plan on getting it tomorrow though, for sure. That's partly because I don't know the whole story, so while the last Metal Gear was enjoyable as a game I was really confused with the story (Although I kinda figured out who the bad guy was hahaha).

On PS3 alone:
Blast Factor
Super Stardust HD
Rocketmen [Get the other four before that one, I heard it's quite bad]
Novastrike [Not sure about this one]
Everyday Shooter
On X-Box 360:
Geometry Wars [Obviously. That's also the only one I know]
PSP:
Polygun Wars (Homebrew) [Geometry Wars for PSP]
No Gravity The Plague of Mind (To be released) [Demo available for CFW]
R-Type Command (PSN Game)
Many other homebrews

I wouldn't say it's dead just yet.

shmups will never die, the idea is timeless. I like any quality ones, but my favourites are horizontal scrollers like Thunderforce and R-Types...... with their cheesy Space-Jazz, psychedelia and the fact you cannot rest..... I`m not particularly good at them, but I love them all the same. I want a PS3 R-Type Final 2, which is a contradiction but nevertheless would love it. :robot

It's got a really complicated HUD. I was on vent with some forum mates and they were busy mining somewhere or other. Anyhow, I launched, worked out how to speed up and slow down, and quit. I was tired, and wasn't really in the mood for learning a whole new game as big as that one. Also, I could see me REALLY getting into Eve, and it's not something I have to time to devote to - so I took the sensible option of not getting into it :)

Ballistic weapons? Isn't that where the weapons fire INSANLEY fast? Because that's awesome!

Maybe in this particular game you're talking about, those particular weapons have a high rate of fire? Otherwise, ballistic just means that the projectiles are fired with a single impulse, like a bullet or a cannonball, or a rocket that burns all its fuel long before reaching its destination. Once the original firing impulse is exhausted, their path is affected by gravity, air drag, and direction of wind currents. Rate of fire is not related to whether it's ballistic or not; it's determined by other things, so ballistic fire could be fast or slow.

Darkdrium777
17th June 2008, 09:22 PM
Those particular weapons, as you say, not only fire incredibly fast but are also incredibly deady. :g And with the added gore it makes the game so much more violent xD

Don't worry, I'm nice to those around me :P

I picked up Ace Combat Zero and Dirge of Cerberus for PS2 the other day.

Zero is a great game. Best physics and gameplay of the series on the PS2, IMO. The story line is a little lacking when compared to 4 or 5, however.

Dirge of Cerberus is actually pretty fun. I don't understand the hate this game has attracted. It may be linear but the gameplay is solid. The only issues I have are the confusing menus you are required to navigate in real time and the hud that is equally confusing.

Latest update from the Hellfire Games Library(tm) :P

MASS EFFECT - PC: **** me, it's been a long time since I was properly addicted to a game. Amazing. Pretty much summed up in one word. Graphics are brilliant, immersive storyline, plenty of side missions you can embark on at your leisure. Plus you are completely in control of your character's dialogue, there isn't a sentence he says in the whole game that isn't chosen by you. How you act can also affect the storyline too, so after finishing it as a goody-goody I'm now playing through it again as an arsehole. Squad control can take some getting used to, but it's only really necssary on higher difficulties.

DRAGONBALL Z BURST LIMIT - PS3: Good to have the odd bash on but not one you'll get a lot of play out of. Typical Dragonball affair really, if you've played one you've played them all.

CRISIS CORE - PSP: Great games are like buses, you wait ages for one and two come along at once. It probably helped that I'm a big Final Fantasy VII fan, but my god this game is good. Takes a big step away from the turn based combat of the original PS classic, but the real-time action orientated combat has its own appeal. There's also quite a few nod-backs to the original for fans to spot. There's an absolute plethora of missions that can be attempted, most of which are much more difficult than the main story, adding an extra element of challenge. And of course, the story is brilliant and links very well into both Dirge of Cerberus and Final Fantasy VII.

GUITAR HERO AEROSMITH - PS3: And to finish, a game I am very disappointed with. I do like Aerosmith, certainy not criticising their music, but I can't say it's translated very well to Guitar Hero. I found it a mix of boring and frustrating. Boring in that the style of music never seems to change, and frustrating in that the hammer-ons and pull-offs don't seem to work as well anymore. I can easily do a run of hammer-ons in Guitar Hero III, but a very similar run in this game doesn't want to know. I'm expecting better from Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica.

a. fans of the book...
b. gamers who love shooters with a tactical twist that requires thinking and not just run and gun twitch trigger fingers...

the terrorist hunt mode is reason enough to buy this game i reckon, where the game plonks you in a pretty big level with about 40ish (this is only normal density of enemies....configurable) enemy bots that have a pretty impressive level of AI...I have rarely encountered a set piece repeated more than 3 times...

anyway...for those who love shooters with a twist...go get some...

From what i hear Blur is VERY uneven in weapon distribution ...

heard wrong. Weapons aren't generated on a pad, they can be seen from a distance and are colour coded... Sure you aint got HD-FURY mixed up with BLUR?

If anything, the weapons mechanic on BLUR is better than wipEouts' one. For one, in WipEOut, you can only pick up one at a time, whereas with BLUR, you can cycle thru a selection of up to 3 weapons, and use them tactically to get ahead - and beleive me, in this game you need 'em.

Then there's the getting ahead part - In HD-FURY if you are 5 secs + in front, you can breathe easy, right? Not in BLUR, things vhange in a slit shaved second - blinking is for the weak :g it's a great game, wasnt expecting myself to fall in love with it this much, schit damn - I wanna play it now (and its 2:30am) :D

i've played some Ninja Gaiden S2 after a 2 month break.
i thought i would suck but i was surprised that i haven't lost my touch with Ryu! XD
the spider ninja clan ninja's felt like flies in fear when they saw Ryu against them lol
izuna drop always works like a charm^^

NGS2 makes GOW series combat look so easy and simple.
now if only the online was lag free...

I'm back to playing Wipeout HD after not even touching it for several months. Been playing Borderlands on PS3 (juist recently got my first-ever platinum...awesome game).

I also have a 360, so I've been playing MW2 (also have it on PS3), Gears of War, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2 (I have Bioshock 1 on both systems), Forza 3

i've been playing a ton of Blur. i love it. it's like Wipeout, Mario Kart and Burnout all had a baby.....a beautiful, fast, crazy baby.

i recommend checking it out if you enjoy any of those three games ^

also, single player, online AND four player split screen. great party game! :)

other than that, lately i've played the Halo Reach beta (it was basically halo!) super street figther IV, and red faction guerilla, because sometimes smashing stuff on Mars has to be done. :D

:)
