What do you guys think of keeping a lot of the music in the new game old school?
What I mean is keeping it sounding Wipeout XL-esque.
Wipeout Pure was an absolutely incredible game... but I have to admit it felt a lot more Pure when the downloadable ol' school tracks came out for it! I bet licensing older music has got to be cheaper too! Maybe that could translate into more of it :D
Just a thought.

Of course XL / 2097 style, also with an essence out
of the first WipEout. Here are my nominations:
From Sweden:
Adam Beyer: http://www.drumcode.se/
(Ignition Key, for ex.: Flamethrower, etc..)
Fluke:http://www.zedigitalhub.com/fluke/fluke_full.html
(not the "new" album, please)
Photek: http://www.photekproductions.com/
(Attention, a clever selection only!)
No doubt: UK has made the best electronic music, in my
opinion. And also Sasha - a few Qirex themes, please.
But theres also good music from my country:
Alexander Kowalski: http://www.alexanderkowalski.de/version1_0/startseite.htm
(please, only instrumental versions)
Heiko Laux: http://www.kanzleramt.com/
(clever selection would be needful)
Monika Kruse: http://www.monikakruse.de/
(the first tracks of "Voodooamt" - nice and dark)
Paul Kalkbrenner: http://www.bpitchcontrol.de/
(clever selection)
I hate the Pure OST, although I have nearly all AFX Albms.
Sony, please stop it, stop the new-style-age-cross-over-stolen-melody-no-music way so many other companies are going. Please also ad
custom OST. If you think of Chemical Brothers: Only the "old" tracks.
Great Thread btw.

I would go Fusion's direction. Maybe a bit more bumping, something that make you feel fast. Something between trance and house I would say? Dunno.

That photek site kicks ass!
I liked the music in pure but preferred the wip3out stuff because it was fast, dark and perfectly matched the game.

Wipeout from the very beginning was always seen as a game that gave you the future. Dance music at the time was still seen as this futuristic, alien music that held potential for something bigger so they both married pretty well. Even though Dance bubble's now burst for future Wipeouts to have old skool tunes kind of goes against the Wipeout ideology of delivering the future. There are recent Dance tunes with that ruthless Wipeout 2097 type mentality of old out there, the Wipeout developers/music consultant type people just need to find them. The tunes on Fusion and Pure are great tunes no doubt but the lighter, dare I say it 'Funkier' Breaks just don't cut it for me on a Wipeout game. The last great Wipeout tune for me was Bolt Up by Luke Slater
Beep it, pay Sasha big cash and get him to do more tunes for the next game

I'd really like to hear some music by Infected Mushroom (http://www.infected-mushroom.com/) in the next game. Haven't heard all of their work yet, but some of their tracks like 'Return Of The Shadows' and 'Cities Of The Future' really sound like they retain the feel of the older games and at the same time deliver something fresh, IMO. :)

If SL can get as many classic tracks into the game as possible (WE HAVE EXPLOSIVE! (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/779/1):D ), the game will be twice as good.
It also has to have Krushyn (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/2465/8) in it.
Otherwise, let us upload our own songs and have a custom soundtrack. But no Rammstein.:naughty That means you Rob.:D
How about Used Abused from Elite Force (http://myspace.com/shackforce)? It's on his myspace page.

Well, in the next generation game, I believe that if they could possibly take all the best quality sounds of tracks to brighten their imagination I bit more, they could create better music than just on previous Wipeouts. Don't get me wrong, they were good, but can be so much better!! (I'm not to much of a fan of Wipeout Pure music, they all sound too similar, and all other tracks suck to me). Other Wipeouts had their own style, if their could just be a style to blow all the others out of the water, as well as track design, craft design, and atmosphere (weather effects, environment), and to be able to improve like that every time by considering past failures and achievements, that's the kind of Wipeout atmosphere I ask for...

Thanks for the vote! :)
Seems I was overlooked completely for Pulse. :-
So, I contacted Sony about being included in the next PS3 outing and the response was "...not exactly sure of the direction yet for Wipeout PS3 musically, but I'm not sure we will need any music from you on this one".
I don't think I've upset anyone there, and the vast majority of people seemed to give a good response to Onyx on PSP.
Maybe there are wheels within wheels that I'm not aware of or privvy to?
Perhaps I should start a petition? Hehehehe!
All the best,

That's a shame Tim, your stuff has been my favourite music in all of Pure.
It's probably just me, but it seems like your tracks are more likely to come up when I'm playing the "classic" tracks, and it's really made them that much better. Cairodrome on Altima VII, Canada on Sagarmatha, it's so fitting.
They're likely looking for "a new sound" though, something that would appeal to the younger crowd, not music to please us in the "over 30" category.
Ah well, since we'll be able to add our own music in, it doesn't matter much if you're in the Pulse soundtrack that ships, we'll be able to add you in right away ourselves. 8 )

Yes it`s a real shame - Onyx was my favourite track in Pure by far. Gives me a real :banzai feeling and really suited the game style. Aphex Twin came up with something that probably sounds better backwards, but gets another go. :(
I only got into original WipEout this year, and you`ve been told a million times before, but your music on that game is just unique and so perfect for F3600.

Ils was my favorite Artist from Pure, but I still dramatically love Cold Storage from Wipeout and Wipeout 3... you're a part of Wipeout, considering you were the main musician for the first game... you need to be included in all versions as far as I'm concerned.

Hi All.
Some years ago i was an italian music reviewer and all wipeout's ost are on the top of my scores ;)
Future Sound Of London
Aphex Twin (AFX-Richard d James)
Photek (Rupert Parkes)
Orbital (Hartnoll's family)
Prodigy
Fluke
and so on......
Now I make a radiophonic program with cool, electronic, avantgarde and tendence music......ih ih ih
in some week playlist i send on air Photek's C note, Cold Storage's Onyx, Plump Dj's and Cross the Line....:D my preferred stuff from Pure's OST.....
aaaah! my first startprogram music was Hartnoll's Boot Up! one minute of Pure Adrenalin!
and now i'm waiting for Pulse OST .....and the music of the Teaser is...wow!.....;)
The Wipeout Game is perfect with Electronic music.
I don't imagine it with sound of rock, or metal, or pop, but with digital and electronic sound from the history to the now time.
I see the list of Track from Pulse and see the Kraftwerk one "Aero Dynamic" from the Album 'Tour de France" and i've the feeling of the End of the circle, from past to future, through the media of game and music....... it's simply perfect! :D

more higher bpm dance and progressive trance, please. maybe just a touch of some light and fluffy DnB(similar to the last few GitS games). while fusion had a great soundtrack, i think that over all breaks and big beat should be kept to a minimum. no house at all, except daft punk. i bet they could come up with something cool.
also, CoLD SToRAGE deserves to have at least one song in every wipeout. period.
it's a matter of tradition and honor.
also...
what happened to commissioned music? i don't mind licensed stuff, but music that was made just for the game is cooler. like what they did with CoLD SToRAGE and sasha. awesome.

I agree with exarkann completely, commissioned music kept a very good overall-style of the Wipeout game. As for CoLD SToRAGE, to be honest, I think it went down the toilet in Pure. If I listen to the first Wipeout's music, then to Onyx, I think "What the hell happened to the depth??" Wipeout's music is an overall reflection of the game, a very important aspect... Wipeout overall seems it has left it's mystic side in the gutter from the first Wipeout, and went to a more quick fast speed-freak scheme in Wipeout XL, and moved on into that. It was good, but the mystic was lost. The very thing that made Wipeout dreamy and gave you goosebumps as you slept was bleached out into a Pure color (style), but I felt a lot more adrenalin rushes when the mystic depth was still their in the musical atmosphere. Aren't I right or what?! ;)

Absolutely. I miss the all-out techno music which underlined the WipEout 1 feeling of flying crude machines held together by bolts and screws. With every incarnation that feeling got lost more and more in a stylized high-tech future where data streams seem to be more important than raw industrial power. Or at least that's how I perceive the changes over the years. I really wished for future soundtracks to go back to the roots, but I seriously doubt that's ever going to happen. :)

The people who create Wipeout love music, we should be appreciative. A few people are over the moon that Kraftwerk and Stanton Warriors are on the new soundtrack...and the tracks deliver. I think only 1 track out of the whole pulse soundtrack doesn't cut it, a not bad job in my opinion.

It's true that Cold Storage was basically the whole soundtrack to WipEout and 2097/XL. And he is truly very important to defining the Wipeout sound. But maybe he is just moving on. Then again, I am not a DJ, so I can't imagine what role he has to play in the decision for none of his music to be created for Pulse.
But I think that the music for Pulse will be good no matter what (as long as it's not full of tracks like 'The System')
If there wasn't a custom soundtrack feature, I might be annoyed.
Actually, I have no idea what music I'll listen to with Pulse. I'm a heavy metal fan through and through, but I can't imagine listening to Carcass while flying through high-tech scenery. That said, I might enjoy it more if I had music on Pulse that I would normally listen to outside of Wipeout. Might encourage me to feel the experience more naturally. I think few people realise how well a good metal/hard rock (yes technohead there is a difference) can fit in with WO.
EG: Sometimes I like to jump in a Qirex on WO3 with "Weisses Fleisch" playing, although to be honest that could be mainly because of the introduction... my point is that there is a very technical side to metal that fits quite well.

And besides, if they start having team music again then bad boys like Qirex and Tigron will be begging for aggressive music.

I absolutely adore metal, even in its most extreme forms, but...
I don't think that it would suit a future Wipeout game... the only time I could really imagine it working is some low key dark, totally un-epic (lol) and quite moody if the PS3 Wipeout was very dark, gritty and old-school AG Racing. (Think Rammstein, Static-X + lower the key (moodwise))
Electronica has the kind of electric, neon futuristic sound that I think fits perfectly well... Metal has its own place. I can totally see where you're coming from, fast paced and intense music, but with Wipeout, I'd rather go for a trippier or cleaner sound.
And, coming onto trippier music... I would love for music in Wipeout to induce a state of euphoria... a trance (heheh) that totally mesmerises the player... this wouldn't be possible with the PSP because of the speaker quality, but it would really allow for some hypnotic racing that leaves you pumped with adrenaline and feeling in a state of perfection... and of course, the 'Oh... wow... .... woah... wow...' kind of thing going on too.

NiN? It's not so much the metal, it's the aggression.

For me the best music for Wipeout should be only electronica but only certain genres no House music!!!
I think that artists like: Cold Storage, Sascha, The Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and everybody from Wipeout 1-3 should always be on Wipeout soundtrack but maybe they should try some other artist from a little bit harder genre... i mean Hardcore.
Artists like:

Vojeet - hardcore/drum&bass/beat/a lots more:D He's a member of Kowareta Hyoushi and he's on this forum:D tracks like: A Madrid, GFE or Kowareta's track: Aussenseiter are just created for Wip3out but try to find this track: Sichere Dein Leben it's gonna rock u up!

Robert Miles - Children (Dream Version)
And finally, this song from the Playstation version of Doom. This song would work so perfectly for Wipeout...lol. :D:+

(music comes on at about 32 second mark ;))
Oh, I remember the music from Assault Riggs was really good too, maybe throw that in a Wipeout game. :D Maybe also some Tempest 2000 music.

If some of the art-work of Pink Floyd can somehow get into Wipeout, as well as it's nestalgia... I've always thought that would've been a work of greatness...

Pink Floyd would go well with Wipeout. Maybe as an end-game song? Something mellow to calm you after a grueling league win. :D

I wasn't thinking just adding the music... Just it's style of concept art with track design...

Some of the rock tracks on the Motorstorm soundtrack work really well, particularly Woman by Wolf Mother - it suits the rough, dirty, raw feeling of the game perfectly.
Wipeout for me works with electronic music in a similar way - it just suits the easthetic. Loops Of Fury and Gare D'Europa belong together, imo. I don't think there's too much of a worry about it sounding outdated, certainly guitar music is in the ascendancy at the moment but it's not like electronica has gone away completely.
Personally I'm hoping to be able to use music on the hard drive of my PS3 in game - in fact I've already started editing out the intro sections of my favourite breakbeat tracks in preparation! Of course I could always just play them on the stereo while I'm playing, but that's cheating ;)
Two personal Wipeout-esque favourites I recommend tracking down if you've got the time: the Backdraft remix of Halo by Dan F, and Further by General Midi. The first one can definitely be had from http://www.beatport.com, as that's where I got it.

Drum & Bass Chocobo one of my embarrassing tracks - made with Rebirth.
"it sounds a lot different than your last works" - in a good or bad way?
By the way, someone has created an Vojeet-account on last.fm - How can I contact with the user? I want to take over this account

Noizetrauma 4, maybe 2 CDs. One CD with break tracks and the other with straight tracks.
I have 4 new Speed & Noizecore tracks like "Taetilaer Eid Tsi SieD".
"Taetilaer Eid Tsi SieD" is backwards and stands for "Dies ist die Realität" - in english "this is reality".

Have finally downloaded some music onto Pulse . . . Most importantly all CoLD SToRAGE tracks from the original and 2097 - bloody brilliant.
Sasha's Xpander and some of his other stuff as well as FSOL, Orbital, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers etc etc all of which are old wipEout tracks from the first three installments of the game have also been included!!
For me wipEout isn't wipEout if it doesn't include these amazing artists and there funky tunes (especially CoLD SToRAGE) just my opinion though guys!!
Sorry to prattle on, I guess what I'm really wanting to say is that I'm one very nostalgic and happy AG Pilot being able to listen to all my old favorite WipEout tunes again . . . hooray :guitar:nod

Elite Force just put a track on his myspace page called "Engine." This goddamned track needs to be in a WipEout game.

20th January 2008, 06:54 AM
I agree... not quite my style, but that engine song does seem to fit very much with the current Wipeout style...
Howabout Beat Chemist? I don't care for the songs that include much singing or raping, but as for pure instrumentalism and sounds... I'd say they sound pretty badass...
Yeah is one of those songs on their myspace playlist:
Beat Chemist Playlist (http://collect.myspace.com/music/popup.cfm?num=1&time=undefined&fid=6277697&uid=1&t=bIdbbiB02WEjyFUVt7tCsqktLvhEqoio9jwwT5VGTQT3/YHhng/euP1J91amrFNnRdMLj40o36iRsDQ4SWYzsg==d=NjI3NzY5N14 xMjAwNzgzNDE4)
Hey... what can I say? I like the sound of good turn-tablism with wipeout...
And they do have a lot more like that that are longer, just not on this playlist for some reason...

Lol... I listen to gangsta rap when at the gym though... Just not for Wipeout, unless it's for myself only... ;) I like rap in Wipeout, I just know hardly much of you guys would...
You can find a few more here (http://search.playlist.com/tracks/Beat-Chemist)... ;)
Many of these probably would be to slow-tempo for Wipeout, but the overall deep-style and feel they give I think could go together very well with Wipeout at a higher tempo...

I have to say, since I changed the playlist to the music from WO1 - 3, Pulse feels more like wipeout. This because I always play with the music on. I feel the music in my bones...:g

For some reason, listening to snow patrol or "Home" by foo fighters makes me much better at zone mode, I'm getting about 10 zones higher than usual, it must calm me down. But on the other hand if its the pretender or don't stop me now by queen (i wrote some wipeout lyrics for it! http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4545 (http://www.wipeoutzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4545) ) I'm crashing all over the place on zone 5 singing along like a drunk 40-something on a karaoke machine:beer
about the rape thing, I would have spelled what chill was on about as rapping as not to get confused,
EDIT: woah, just listened to the beat chemist playlist, rap isn't really my scene but that stuff is awesome!

Pretty much anyone who is going to get into a sport like boxing, or go the the gym to lift and exercise (PT is crucial in the military)... rap can't go un-noticed, it's a more aggressive type of music that gets your adrenaline pumped if you're willing to feel it...
So when playing Wipeout, I can imagine if racing for real, rap wouldn't be too uncommon either... (Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Eminem, Nappy Roots, Nas, "Atmosphere", etc.)... so I like listening to some of my favorite tracks from them, because the military has made me rather harder than I was before I joined...
But I'm glad that you liked Beat Chemist, found it searching up Cut Chemist, was just as surprised as you guys!! ;)

"Future sound of London" rule!!
also try "Crystal Method"
DJ Techno
24th January 2008, 08:17 PM
They probably won't use Crystal Method in any wipeout game... my words to the new guys in England making the American Hit since 95-06.
Use the sounds of Funky Breaks and Trance from the USA more!
I got to use at my place.
Josh Wink, Crystal Method, Deepsky, Derrick May, and other records, mp3s, and cds just to really get more thrill in my racing now.
Hell this too. The new wipeout coming out that folks with the PS3 can play. Anymore word on that?
you don't know, checkout Game Informer issued last year in september or october.

Derrick May.
Ah yes, one of the Belleville Three, the forward-thinking Detroit urbanites that invented the genre called "techno" (name inspired by Toffler's Third Wave). Nice one.
