Very impressive. Mind you, half of that means absolutely nothing to me! Here's mine:
New Generation iMac G4 800MHz
512 MB RDRAM
60GB hard drive
nVidia GeForce 2 MX graphics
Pioneer Superdrive (CD/DVD writer/rewriter in one)
Nuff said!

I was impressed... up until the light, and then I kind of smirked a little - sorta thing the head bangers over at www.sharkyextreme.com would install!
Sounds like a really cool spec... I have to wonder why, though... what the smeg are you getting up to... Video would be my guess - it's the only thing that needs that kind of grunt. If it was 3D rendering then it would have been cheaper to produce a dual Athlon model and trim a little of the other exuberances (like the light!). ;)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - iMacs.... (urgh) :o
and "Generic LAN Card"? what does this mean at all? you should know at least how fast it is...
on the other hand its a quite expensive machine you got there - pretty nice. but tell me: is it also a "silent" machine? the newest technics are horrible to me when they are as loud as a plane rushing thru your room...

You say "they", but I suppose it's buying it for myself ;)
It would be particularly flambouyant to do that wouldn't it....if we bought everyone in the office one of those, we'd be giving up the potential to employee say another artist or programmer. Which one would you choose.
Incidentally
Here's the specs of the my two machines at work....I'll get some new ones after this project.
Email and Fun machine (the machine I'm on now)
PIII 450, 128mb, 40gb, DVD-ROM, Dual Boot, and Geforce 2 GTS - Not very impressive
Work/Development/SDK machine
PIII 800, 256mb, 60gb, Geforce 2 GTS, win2k, CD-ROM (Broken), DVD-Rom (Broken).
LOL! Not terribly impressive eh? But - the jewel in the crown -
My See-thru Xbox SDK - which is the biz. :)

so why not - get shocked:
home tower (almost 4 years old) - but i use it still today:
- PII 400mhz Genuine (no Celeron crap)
- 640mb sdram
- ibm 8,4gb + seagate barracuda 30gb harddrives
- toshiba 6x dvd-rom drive (must be one of the early generations)
- philips 3610 2x cdrw-drive (but for that it was quite low-priced)
- terratec xlerate soundcard
- ati all-in-wonder pro (for tv-i/o) graphics
- voodoo² 3dfx acceleration card
- crappy 10mb lan-card
- mjpeg card
+ iomega 100 lpt zip-drive
+ highscreen (elsa) 56k modem
+ lucky goldstar electronics 19" monitor
+ epson stylus color 500 printer (never used anymore for 1 year)
+ old broken mitsumi cd-rom hidden in the basement (BE AWARE OF MITSUMI!!!)
my this-year-bought notebook - and i love this machine (assembled by dell):
- PIII Genuine mobile 1ghz
- 256mb sdram
- hitachi 40gb harddrive
- samsung 308b 8x dvd/cdrw combo-drive
- cirrus crystal soundcard
- ati mobility radeon graphics (ok, thats no big use for games)
- 3com 3c920 10/100mb lan-card
- actiontec modem
+ logitech webcam (as addon-gift)
...and due to my dsl-account at home ive also have a broadband-compatible modem.
this all should not be so impressive, but its everything i need. theres no more which im aiming for... even my old PII400 home tower is used quite often even today. the home tower runs with NT5 advanced server AND me (but me sucks - just there for 2k-incompatible games) and my notebook runs with XP home (weird security struct - ill give it a better XP by the time). everything is fine - im happy with all of these technics...

I got a crap computer for doing some of the stuff I do with it.. But, its good for gaming, ie.. Counter-Strike and thats what I got it for.
Windows 2000 Professional (5.1 - 2600)) Usage: 189/256MB (73.83%) [||||||||||] (1-Intel Pentium III (0.18 µm) {8} @~857.46MHz) With 40gb HDD no idea wich brand, and some soundblaster soundcard and gf2mx. Im planning on buying a expansion kit that gives me double the speed and space that this one gives me. But since I bought an xbox recently, I need to save up and get a few games for it first ;)

The reason nick can buy a computer of this magnitude is due to his 7 figure income :o
Nick Burcombe
9th May 2002, 06:54 PM
I don't even have a home PC! :o - I certainly don't have the PC quoted, it was just an example of the ultimate spec. :)
7 figures - I wish!

Nick:
tis always better to have more creative imaginations than it is to have more expensive machines. the machines are usually cheaper, which is a reflection of their worth relative to the humans. [and/or an expression of the value of the humans who created them]

an expression of the value of the humans who created themWhich could explain why I'm so content with the machine I built a year ago... although since then it has gained a Radeon 8500 graphics card and a new USB hub keyboard. :)
Actually, the groovyest thing is my little 128meg USB flash drive that allows me to cart stuff to and from work/wherever. And that's not even part of my computer, really.
