View Full Version : WO3SE and Destruction Derby 2 twin pack: cheap source?

I found somewhere to buy WO3SE in the twin pack with Destruction Derby 2 for just £3.99.

Or have I?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/B00009ME9D/new/ref=sdp_newvg_h_/202-7123194-7061411

It seems like the Special Edition version of the twin pack is far more common than the standard edition version (W3O and DD2) but such a twin pack does actually exist.

I just ordered one (£6 inc postage). Have I wasted my money?

Here is the Amazon page showing all WO3 variants:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/202-7123194-7061411
Note that the WO3SE/DD2 twin pack is not listed, which is strange as it's by far more common than the W30/DD2 twin pack. This suggests that this IS actually the WO3SE/DD2 pack.

Maybe I should have gone for the used one for £2.50, but that might not be the Special Edition either... has anyone bought this game from Amazon? Help!

I haven't actively looked for W3SE for ages now because I kept turning up blanks, although I did spot it on www.swopex.com the other day.

afaik there is no W03+DD2 Twin pack, only a WO3SE+DD2 pack. Any reference to the former is probably just a mistake. HMV had it advertised as such a few years ago, but it was infact WO3SE+DD2. Anyone advertising WO3+DD2 just doesn`t know the difference between 3 and 3SE. We could try explaining to them the increased "floatiness" of 3SE, and how this leads to an enhanced flying experience at the cost of greater shortcutting, but they`d probably just think we were freaks ;)

That's very reassuring, Lunar, but how can these images be explained?

This page also has the W3O/DD2 pack: http://www.puolenkuunpelit.com/kauppa/product_info.php?products_id=10592&osCsid=5890da18db5a3e5c72af707fa655cb7e

possibly a mistake in the promo material? These aren`t pictures of actual game boxes, are they? Or maybe there is such a pack...... it just seems very unlikely that Sony would make both versions, and I know the DD2/3SE one exists because I have it. I got it from HMV and it was advertised as WO3/DD2, which made me think it was a common mistake to miss the SE, though your pictures suggest it may not always have been a mistake. My DD2/3SE certainly doesn`t have a cover like in those pictures. It has the DD2 cover pic and the 3SE cover pic, not the 3 cover pic. :?

Hmm. This is confusing indeed. Does anyone actually have the W3O version of this twin pack?

i dont have this, but i have definetly seen that game cover before, i was going to get it but i was not 100% sure it was the special edition, also i remember something about it that it was the japanese version of the game. i dont know if that is worse or better but i didnt risk it.

I have a brand new W3Ose/DD2 pack like Lunar bought into ebay.
Never heard before about a W3O/DD2 pack .
Maybe Zoolander our all-versions-wipeout expert can enlighted us?

I didn't think so, but those pictures are convincing. I think I emailed them the question if the pictures are correct, but I do not even know the language the site is in. (I wrote in english what looked like a question form). could someone else do this as well.
Perhaps sony made some of the regular wipeout 3 packs by accident and sold them

Even if they do exist, there seem to be few, if any, English sites selling the W3O pack. I've done the same with the "contact us" form on the site. Something to add to the "All Wipeout Versions File", maybe!

Edit: Maybe Sony sent out the W3O/DD2 pictures to websites as promotional material before sending the genuine discs (which were all the Special Edition)...

i emailed them too ( in french ...who never knows? :) )
Thx Al ;)

I have our answer!

"Hi Anthony!

The game is just the basic Wipeout 3

- Timo - Puolenkuun Pelit "

There we have it. The WO3/DD2 pack does exist.

How strange that they would do both versions. Anyway I stand corrected :)

whatever you do, don`t let zoolander find out about this news, because he will have to own it. ;)

Ha ha ha... if it turns out that I've bought the standard version I'll probably be quite willing to swap the twin pack for a single special edition...

email me when you get it and I'll swap the other version with you. I have 2 of the special edition version

everyone has the special edition. there are plenty of them to be found on ebay. I would like to find the original version one, so if anyone can help, that would be great.

crunchysaviour

There were a good few original versions on Ebay when I looked. The only two special editions I could find were located in Holland and Germany, or similar.

Sausehuhn
18th April 2006, 07:10 PM
on german amazon it's available for months now.

here it goes to a 29,00€-WipEout3:SE/Destruction Derby2-Pack (http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000902DF/qid=1145383762/sr=8-5/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i5_xgl/303-8127867-4841860)

(with german booklet)

JABBERJAW

I actually do need that version with the german writing, but that is not hard to find. Look at the beginning of this thread, and the combination is a regular wipeout 3(not se), that is combined with dd2. I have never seen this or been aware enough perhaps to notice it since I didn't know it existed.

Do I understand something wrong here?
As crunchysaviour said in his last post, it's actually not the standard-version. So who says there is a Wip3out/DD2-Pack?

crunchysaviour
19th April 2006, 02:28 PM
There MIGHT be. There's one on that Puolenkuun-Pelit site (who a few of us asked via their contact-us form) that could be the WO3/DD2 pack. The one from Direct4entertainment is the Special Edition (brand new and at a good price too).

JABBERJAW

ONe I asked about on ebay was the actual wo3se version as well, but they showed the cover of regular wipeout 3.

I just bought the WO3SE + DD Pal from Ebay UK for = Aus $12 delivered.

Wow ,I can now see what you guys have been raving about, this versions great with the 3 tracks from the original series.
I can also see what you mean about the "Floatiness" of the ships, that threw me out a bit at the beginning, and I miss "Firestarter" soundtrack from 2097 bigtime!

Iv'e just done a 12 hour stint on this game,I'm going for all gold all tracks all ships all leagues, done 148 so far and 8 challenge + 2 prototype, only 298 to go not including the challenges.

Looks like some long stints ahead.

I"m getting playstation "Thumb" again.;)

Are you running it on a PS2?

If so, don't forget to turn on faster disk access and texture smoothing - works a treat with W3SE. :)

Yeh P2,
I had already put the texture smoothing but not the faster disc acess, that might get rid of a few glitches Iv'e had with it mid race.

That and the suoerhuman blunder of not realising that I thought I had space in the memory card I had in the P2 yesterday,I didn't.

12 hour stint and nothing saved.:o

Maybe you had space but you can't use it.
AFAIK you need a PS1-memory card to save the game. the PS2-memory card won't work.

I fell afoul of that just recently. Although PS1 memory cards cost less than £5 now usually.

currently a few of these going cheap and cheerful on ebay.

here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WIPEOUT-3-SE-DESTRUCTION-Derby-2-PS1-Playstation-NEW_W0QQitemZ120056530338QQihZ002QQcategoryZ11055Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and here too (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wipeout-3-Special-Edition-and-Destruction-Derby-for-PS1_W0QQitemZ160055625704QQihZ006QQcategoryZ3719QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), though the second one looks slightly iffy as you`ll see by the picture. Still I guess the seller could clear up the mystery. At the prices of the buy it now ones you can`t go wrong, and he has three available, so buy one now if you don`t have this game and you know what`s good for you. :)

With the second one, his feedback suggests he's reliable so I'm sure it's just an incorrect photo. His other items have the correct pictures. Can't hurt to ask though.

When I was looking for 3SE on eBay over a year a I saw the 3SE/DD2 bundle, but I didn't want it because it wasn't pure SE. I found one that was hot for bids and at no suprise, it had a thick case, complete with manual and in perfect condition. The only drawback was that it had '7405' written in sharpie on the disc and manual, but I was fine with that. I love the thing. I was never going to find one here in New Zealand because there were only 30 copies released here.

Yes SE are no easy task to find but I have three original copies here but I simply cannot depart there! So I`m hope you can find the proper disc for you.

Oh!, welcome to the board and enjoy....

that comes as somewhat of a surprise.. I remember seeing 2 copies in store at one point at a central park store.. and the copy I own was formerly the property of civic video.. I also hired a copy from a blockbuster some time ago.

I find it hard to believe that of all the copies of this game in the country I have made contact with more than 10 percent of them.
also I see it on trademe more often than you might think

if you are right, then... yay me! :P

WO3 SE combined with DD2 is definitely the cheaper source (and far easier to find).
My combo cost me about $40 Cdn all told, and at the moment I am bidding on a WO3 SE all alone with its precious manual, and the scoundrel on ebay.ca known as Zytaca is out bidding me at about $75 Cdn.
OUCH!!
FOR ONE GAME!!!!!
(at least it's worth it.)
