For a fairly vile post attacking the members of this board and its moderators, the recently joined member Ollie has been banned for good.

sorta sorry i missed it, but i can probably guess pretty accurately what it said. his parents or other caregivers, and his school all failed him. poor bastard. if he's lucky, maybe he will grow up before it's too late.

Sorry Lance, but the way you're talking about him isn't any better as well. :/

Actually I`m not surprised because the way this guy treated me through MSN and I did blocked him right away.

Good riddance!!

well he did start quite a potentially interesting topic.... and then managed to ruin it. Not bad for a day`s work. it`s baffling why people are like that, but whatever, bye bye to him. :)

Max? i am saying that he was not given the care he should have been given, and as a consequence doesn't know how to interact well with other people. that could potentially last the rest of his life and make things difficult for him and those he comes in contact with. it may make him unhappy for his whole life. it already cost him the fun he might have had here. where am i saying something bad about him?

@ Lance

You said it like it's fact. Do you know if it really is like that? Maybe you just should have added a "Maybe" at the beginning... or just said "good bye".
I don't want to start a quarrel with you, really not, I just want you to tell how I think about it.

is there a way to block IPs?

Lance
3rd February 2006, 10:06 PM
.
on the old software, and with the admin abilities i had on it, i could ban domains, and in one case, i did. on this forum, Rob may be able to do that, but i do not see such a provision for that on my moderator page. banning an IP is not always effective. depends on the user's connection.

btw, the Ollie2 name has also been banned.
.

P.S. - i think his reaction to banning pretty much proves that his teachers did not do right by him.

I'm for an additional paragraph in the forum guidelines that menitioned that it's not allowed to post racistic and pornographic entries.

Lance

.
that is already taken care of in the guideline which says to respect the other members. specifying each possible detail will not induce the 'Ollies' of the world to abide by the guidelines any more than they already do or do not.

question: will all banns be broad-casted over the fourums, or just this one?

Lance

bans are global. blocked from even signing in to the board.

-----
you may have noticed that when i deleted 'Ollie2' i also deleted the two sequences that contained his posts under that name, and also the responses to them.

i doubt that you're in danger, since it's unlikely you would do as Ollie did and fire off multiple posts containing long series of ****you's, not to mention the namecalling and other infantile bs.

question: will all banns be broad-casted over the fourums, or just this one?All permanent bans will be announced in order that the community is aware of the situation. We're not in the habit of banning people without reason, so when we have to take the measure I want it to be as clear as possiblewhat happened. Nobody should "live in fear" so to speak - nobody has to "conform" or feel their freedom of speech is threatened here: following the guidelines and posting in the spirit of the community is all we want to see.

while on the topic of banns, where has chill gone? i remember he was banned for about a week or something, but did he mistake it for a life ban? if so: COME BACK CHILL !
does anyone know where he has gone to?

username, ssshhhhhh, he might hear you. ;)
chill was banned for a month, but has thus far not chosen to come back, for which i am thankful. he was banned for thoughtless repetitive irrelevant posting [about 500 of them in a short time IIRC{just checked-582}],but particularly for two posts on two successive days that insulted other members. i don't think that was his intention, but he was so thoughtless that he didn't consider what he was saying before he said it. he is basically a nice enthusiastic guy, but has insufficient restraint of his typing fingers. or at least didn't in the past; maybe he's improved on that now, i hope.
