View Full Version : Where Does Everyone Live?

Ally Graham
21st August 2005, 08:36 AM
Did a search and I can't find a topic like this.

I hope to find where most wipers live, and find people that live near you that you never did know about.

You can always be vague, only give as much as you feel comfortable with.

I'll start.

I'm from Crawley, West Sussex, England, UK

Though I just got back from a lengthy stay in Casteltermini, that's in Sicilia in the Girgenti province, unfortunately since Mussolini was an emotionally retarded prat who thought Sicilian is just a dialect of Italian he renamed it and now it's still officially called Agrigento (from the Latin Agrigentum).

Lance

.
probably should be a Greek name since the town started as a Greek colony in the days of ancient Greece. or so the histories say
.

You mean Akragas, there are several bridges on the strada statale on the way into the city named Akragas 1 through 3, and you can see the ruins of some temples in the aptly named Valle dei Templi. Other than those four or five temple ruins there's nothing left of the ancient colony, or even the Roman city.

Anyway Girgenti is what it's been called for centuries and is still technically the Sicilian name though it has no status and it was only in the 20s when the Fascists came into power that they renamed every place that didn't sound Italian enough, Girgenti became Agrigento (after the Roman Agrigentum), Castrogiovanni became Enna (after the greek collony of Henna) and Terranova became Gela (greek colony of the same name) probably lots more places got name changes I don't know about, specially in the south as Napoletano-Calabrese and Sicilianu are very different languages to Italian.

We know return you to the scheduled thread.

offtopic (just to clear things up  ): Red bull is AUSTRIAN, it's headquarters are in Fuschl, near Salzburg. I drove past it this summer when I went to a musicfestival on Salzburg's race ring. it's a wonderful, sci-fi looking building, surrouded by a lagoon of water.
