How many special edition games did they make fore the wipeout series and
is wipeout 3 special edition the same as wipeout 3 special edition classic.

Well this would be better placed in the wipeout 3 SE forum, but anywayz. The SE was kinda rare and only made for the PAL regions. There is no SE classic as you speak off, well that i know off. I think you have have been confused with the addition of classic tracks in SE from the first Wipeout and XL.

Hi there, Phase2, Welcome to WipEoutZone!

The only ever special edition that was released was Wipeout 3 special edition. Exactly as :axel has said, it contains the 8 circuits from Wipeout3 and also an assortment of classic tracks from wipeout1 and wipeout2097/xl.

So, to review, there is no wipeout3 special edition classic.

i think you've been looking at the times tables on the main pages, where records for the new WO3 tracks are listed in their SE form, and the eight tracks taken from WO1 and WO2 are listed as SE Classic tracks. WO3 was, as Axel and Thrusty said, the only special edition of any Wipeout

I do know that we're talking about special editions here, but I'd like the add in the little axtra Wipeout Fusion: Limited Edition. Not that I like Wipeout Fusion, but to complete a Wipeout collection, it would be nice to have!!!! :P Don't know if that's your intentions, but if I had the money and luck, it would be mine!! :(

Here is what I got after some mildly intensive research:

1995: Wipeout PSX (Japan, Europe)
1996: Wipeout PSX (US), Wipeout PC (USA), Wipeout Saturn (US), Wipeout 2 PSX (US)
1997: Wipeout 2 PC, Saturn (US)
1998: Wipeout PC (Japan, Europe), Wipeout 2 PC (Japan, Europe), Wipeout 64 (US)
1999: Wipeout 64 (Europe), Wipeout 3 (US), Wipeout 2 Amiga
2000: Wipeout 3 Special Edition (Europe)
2001: Wipeout Fusion (Europe)
2002: Wipeout Fusion (US)
2004: Wipeout 2 Mac
2005: Wipeout Pure

There are still some missing spots, like the release year of Japan Wipeout 64 or the Europe and Japan Wipeout 3. I suppose the latter would be '99 but haven't found any definite answer yet. If someone can fill in the blanks, please do so. I will then update this list (and maybe try and make it easier to read ;) ).
By the way: In order to avoid even more information, I simply wrote "Wipeout 2" for both Wipeout XL and 2097.

Wipeout 3 : the F7200 begins in 2116, but the game is set in 2127, I believe.

IGN also has more precise release dates, more to the point, they have information on the exact day the games were released. I didn't include them as I thought this was more or less irrelevant info. Should we include these dates as well?

I didn't think it was relevant because release dates tend to differ, and most game shops are a law unto themselves. The official release date for Driver 3 was something like 5 days after I picked it up in the shops, as they were trying to get the money off of people before all the non-official mag reviews arrived telling people how truly terrible it was.

Wipeout 3 Special Edition was released on 13th July 2000, though, I can tell you that one for certain. ;)

Well 2050 is nice, except wipE'out" is set in 2052 - sorry to be picky but you say the others down to the year.

Re: the progression, yes it is a bit silly the continual huge leaps between the games but at least that justifies the massive differences between the craft design and the constant rules changes. If you look at contemporary motorsports like GT racing, WRC or *spit* Formula 1 you'll notice that from year to year the changes in the vehicles and rules are very minor but compare an F1 car from 1952 and one from 1997 and the difference is huge enough to be noticed by anyone.

Yep. :) There is also a thread somewhere here in the forums, which basically has all the info about that release. Try searching for "Wipeout Amiga" (and mark "include all terms").

EDIT: Whoops, I just found a mistake. The Amiga Wipeout is a conversion of 2097, not the original WO. I'll update the list.

Whoops! I was looking at the last note in W'O" 's manual, and there's the first season opening date - 2050. Yup, W'O" is set two years after, my bad.

Iv'e got to get the time to write all the games, + versions of the game. There are over 50 that I have discovered. Many are the same game with different covers.

If I'm right, Fusion is also not in 2160, it's in 2153 or something... it's just the 2160 season...

And yep, 22xx is far, far away, maybe too far. I don't want to know which computer systems we will have and how the life will be!
Man, how the world will look like? And what about discovering new planets? Or new ice age(s)? How many people will live at this planet?!
