I think this topic of mine comes up like every few months or so...Anyways.

Champions of Norrath:RTA - I have 3 chars,my Barb is 80 already and using her to farm the bosses for the Bloodforged armors/weapons and finding some of the rare items I'm missing out. Also pumping up to 80 are my SK and Ranger babes.

Tekken 5 - Aren't you?

Devil May Cry 3 - Dante teh Gunslinger And SworDmastah pwN joo!

Merceneries - Unwrapped and collecting dust...for 2 months.

Phantom Brave - Unwrapped and collecting dust...for 4 months.

Shin Megaten Nocturne - I have no idea why I kept pushing playing this game.Maybe because I'm such a perfectionist, that I calculated it would take me more than 300 hours to get the best demon fusions and stats,in other words,a perfect data. And Digital Devil Saga:AT looms over the horizon..Not good.

Shadow of Rome - Gold for everything on every difficulty.I rock.

All these will last me a while until God of War.Happy gaming.

Gran Turismo 4: About 70% done and just collected my sauber c9. Hopefully I can get the GT World championship and my s license done soon.

NFSU2: It has my car in the game!!!! Vauxhall Corsa!!!! It's fun to see how crap I can make it look then start again.

N-Gen Racing: Just because it's on the PSOne doesnt mean its forgotten. Big jet planes, guns, racing, flashing lights..... it's an arcade dream!

Tiger Woods PGA '05: Impossible to beat. But thats why I keep on coming back for more.

Pac Man: I still love this game! It is on the Ninni GBA-SP and it's my travelling buddy on boring overnight stays and occasional coffee breaks.

I am urgently trying to save money at the moment (trying to get enough for that PSP) but DOA Ultimate and Sonic Mega Collection + are very tempting.....

The only thing I have been playing lately besides WO is Fatal Frame 1 and 2 (Released as Project Zero 1&2 in Europe). I love Japanese horror and the two games are great at catching the atmosphere from Ringu or Dark Water.
Apart from that I am planning on resuming Nexus - The Jupiter Incident, Silent Bomber, and Silent Hill 2.

I had been monstoring WRC4 up until I got back from holiday a couple of weeks back, but somehow I've lost interest in it and I'm back on Madden 2005... as usual. I'm playing Socom II again, too, after somebody at work got me thinking about it, although I'm still sucktacular online. :)

I'd be playing Ace Combat 5 if I could justify going out and buying it, but since I'm in the process of buying a house I have to hold off on luxuries like games. Which is going to be a bit of a bummer when TimeSplitters Future Perfect comes out at the end of the month - I've been looking forward to that one for ages.

Predictable as I am, I imagine I'll be back on IndyCar Series 2005 after watching the first IRL race of the season at the weekend. :)

Suikoden IV: Not the best of the series (nothing can top 2) but still a bloody good game.

Wipeout 3 SE: Had to drag it out again for another blast before Pure. Just the challenges left to do.

Star Ocean 3: Looooooong game, over 100 hours clocked so far....

Half-Life 2: This game pwns all. The barnacles still scare the living hell out of me.

That's pretty much my collection for the next two months. Then comes Wipeout Pure, TimeSplitters Future Perfect, Starfox Assault, Devil May Cry 3 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. when I get some money.

WO3SE - working my way through the 3 stuff, as I only played the SE tracks when I first picked it up (I already had normal 3 as well)

GTA:SA - played it a little bit, but (a) the new targetting controls for gunfights aren't clicking, and (b) the swearing means I can only play it when my son is asleep.

Gradius V - marvellous but brutally hard once you get off the easy first level. Currently keep dying on the mass boss onslaught at the end of L2 and being chased by bosses through the twisty tunnels of L3.

OutRun 2 - best racer with wheels hands down; trying to clear the latter stages of Mission mode.

Sitting on the shelf, waiting their turn: Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, Track Mania, Myst 4, Donkey Konga, Burnout 3.

Been playing WO3 nonstop, cept, yesterday after cleaning out my PS2, loaded WO3 onto the system, but instead of loading from the card, i accidently saved over it, so I'm leaving it alone for some time now, was so close to compleition. :(

Front Mission 4 : Great mech game.

I do have a slight problem with gaming though. Ever since I stopped half-way through Xenogears years ago, I've been cursed with not finishing games up. It's been years since I finished a game, which is why I only buy them at cheap prices. Still waiting for Killzone to drop in price though!

Suikoden IV: Not the best of the series (nothing can top 2) but still a bloody good game.

Personally,I think the Suiko series just declined after 2.Oddly,I despise all the Suiko series.Yet,I keep buying because I've played and finished the first one, they keep pumping sequels,I had to keep buying.Sigh..It's just an easy RPG series. The first one was okay I guess but one thing I hated was an enemy called a Killer Rabbit...and Flying Squirrel.How..creative and ....deadly.Thankfully,the sequel leaped in bounds with a way better storyline and a good villain and the characters are more involving to say the least.Yet,they still have that damn Killer Rabbit.

Suiko 3 is good, just not as good as Suiko 2.A lot of people hated,a lot of people liked it.3 interesting main characters to root for plus that duck kicked ass.And it looked much cleaner with it's jump to 3D.As much as I like the story,it dragged on unnecessarily and the battles were much much slower to finish. The mini-games aren't as fun anymore and it's just slow, slow, slow.Could have been a good sequel but executed poorly.

Now,we have Suiko 4,the worst of all.Ugly character designs, dull music, dull cities and most of all, dull world map. What's the random encounter like? One every 3 second? Didnt that get worse when sailing? You steer the ship to an island to dock and there's an invisible barrier pushing you away when you're tring your darndest to land at it and when the invisible barrier steers you off,you get into a battle. You steer again, random battle and frankly,it's annoying when you realise, you could do without that unnecessary aggravation and progress. It makes getting Viki,a MUST.Most of the Stars of Destiny, can even be described in one word, they were just paper cut outs this time around. And it was just short,a really really short game.I guess, the reward for getting through this POS is a New Game Plus, albeit a poor man's version but oh well. And Jeane of course.

I can see where you're coming from here. I've encountered pretty much all of the flaws you mention, far too many random battles, pointless world map, bland characters, etc. But I've always loved the way the Suikoden series plays. Couldn't tell you why, but 1 was really good, and 2 IMHO was the best RPG I've ever played. Never played 3 'cos of a lack of a PAL version. But I've just really taken to this game, despite all the glaring flaws. Of course, there is the element of sailing that really annoys me. With so many random battles and such poor control, you can't really do any decent amount of exploring.

BTW, how is DMC3? Have they gone back to the old fighting style from the original? If it's anything like DMC2, I'll have to storm Capcom head office with a large bat.

Oh, and I'm adding GT4 to my "want" list. Can't believe I forgot that one.

It's the badass Dante we love.In DMC1 of course.Let's not talk about how horrible DMC2 was.Firstly,I think everyone loved the awesome "The Devil's Cry",the main song used in the E3 and other trailers. That was like the kicker as we waited for this release.Anyways..4 starting styles with crazy movesets(Swordmaster is a must IMO),combos and the gothic backgrounds are beautiful. You can change weapons on the fly,the rock music is..well if it's your taste.

A.I is better this time around and the bosses require real planning...since a lot of people complained to Capcom about DMC2's craptacular difficulty, they made it harder this time round.DO NOT treat this like a hack and slash or you'll get raped.Really harder this time round. If you're getting the Jap Import,it's a lil easier though and psst...a really simple button code unlocks like...almost everything.Urgh.

To summarise it all..GIVE CAPCOM YOUR MONEY.

I play maybe four or five games a week, although on Saturday there I played three in a row because I was enjoying myself.

In order to balance up the stats I usually simulate half the games in my season. I play as the Chargers and usually sim all my divisional games - especially the away games - as it gives more of a rounded look to the player stats at the end of the year.

Doing this I can usually complete a season in a couple of weeks - maybe less if I'm on a burn, as I've completed a season in a weekend before, but then I was so sick of it I didn't play it for a month.

Compared to previous years I am taking it pretty easy with this one, although I've never completed the whole 30 years in owner mode. ;)

This should probably be in TI thread, but is American Football a popular sport in the U.K.? Europe? Just wondering.
It has been for me, but the sport enjoyed most of its popularity here in the mid to late 80's with the hype generated from the American Bowl events that were held during the summer for a couple of years back then.

In its quest to make money, under the guise of spreading word of the sport, the NFL has disbanded the two British teams of NFL Europe because they weren't profitable enuogh, which can only serve to curb the enthusiasm of the general public here. The demise of the Scottish Claymores at the end of last year was particularly hard to take, since they were well supported and, for a sport not indigenous to the country, they had attendances larger than some Scottish Premier League football teams.

Anyhow, back on topic:

Fliss felt sorry for me the other day when I was at home ill and bought me Ace Combat 5, so now I'm playing that. Not sure if it's a vast progression from the near perfect AC4, though, as the menus are a little clunky, but game-play-wise I'm quite enjoying it so far. :)

AC4 is just awesome - the presenation, the graphics, the flying, the combat - nothing comes close (to borrow AC5's tagline), and not even AC5... yet.

So far the wingman componant is just pissing me off, but maybe that's more the amount of hours I've put in to AC4 without it being there than a direct fault of AC5. Nothing worse than being in the tightest of dogfights with multiple bogey's, and some dumbass biatch is going on and on about the most trivial ****.

My experience of Mission 4, for example:

Wingchick: "Captain - do you know why that structure was built?"
<pre><yes no></pre>Wingchick: "Captain? Can you hear me?"<pre><yes no></pre>Wingchick: "radio check? Captain, did you understand my question?"<pre><yes no></pre>Yes, I can goddam hear you, ya frickin punk ass whiney frickin' biatch, but I have two migs on my tail, I'm trying to fend off a missile attack and take out a fleet of enemy frigates single ****ing handedly because you and all the rest of the goddam punkass wingmen are about as much use as a chocolate teapot - now shut the **** up and leave me alone to finish the mission.

You get the picture - although the hero stuff you could go off and do by yourself was a little unrealistic, at least it didn't interfere with the action or distract you with this kind of thing. This is why the jury is still out. :)

Why the makers ot this game force you to play with the shoulder buttons is beyond me. That is my one and only gripe with the game, and that is why I didn't bother with the second one of the series. I much prefer being able to use both analog sticks, with the forward, backward and strafe movements on the left stick and the look up/down and turn movements on the right stick. You can't use the right stick at all with armored core 2 or 3. I completely reworked the controller so that its managable now, but I sometimes still look up when I want to look down and I would much prefer the afforementioned layout.

I dont believe halo was the first one to come up with that style of layout. It's been pretty universal on most 1st person shooters. On top of that, It seems that anyone/group putting together a game of most any type would think to make the controls fully customizable. Why wouldnt they???! In this case, they didn't, and it inhibits gameplay in my opinion (this may very well be among my favorite series of games otherwise) Some might think that this is part of the game, but its comparable to permanently setting the movement keys on a keyboard to something akin to "m" "q" "z" and "p" on a keyboard. It just doesnt seem fair to make the game difficulty dependent on the button layout. Make the gameplay difficult, not the button layout.

zargz

hmm.. I never played a game with halo-controll before I tryed halo ..
well I think 007's controll for the n64 was something like that - i tryed it once then threw it away but
yes the look up and down isn't the easiest to learn and probably that's why the target area of most weapons is pretty big
> me and my kid bro fought eachother aLot of times with just the shoulder missiles (no lock) and swords! 8O
awsome especially on the arena in space where one missed step and you fall all the way to earth.
other times we'd install weapons with deep and narrow sight and install FCS' with lock type deep and narrow that makes the sight even smaller! That's hard! 8)
btw the AC-controlls are fully costmizable > you can swap any button with any other. I do see what you mean though :)
I played halo and with the same controller starwars for the xbox and judge dredd for the ps2 and it's pretty OK actually
but i wouldn't be happy if the AC-controller vanished for the next installment :|
what I do belive, as I said before, is that any shooter with some selfrespect should have both controllers the doom(AC) and the halo! :robot

Absolutely - it's the game I've most been looking forward to besides Wipeout Pure and Ace Combat 5, although AC5 has only served to frustrate and disappoint thus far, so I'm hoping for two out of three being good. :)

I've played the demo of TS3, and the control seemed to be a little less precise than previous versions. Almost like the framerate was rock solid for the graphics, but there was less priority given to the player movement. Dunno - maybe it was just me being out of practice. I had learned not to trust demo discs to be an accurate portrayal of the game as a whole, but in the last six months I'd have to be honest and say that the demo's I've played of Killzone and Ace Combat 5 have given an accurate representation of the final game.

Man, what a bummer, though - I had been looking forward to that one for three years since I played AC4 to death, but AC5 is just so goddamn annoying that at half way through I cant force myself to endure anymore cheesy dialogue and downright frustrating, contrived missions. I think I might treat myself to another play through of AC4 to cheer myself up - after the disappointment of Burnout 3 and now this, I'm starting to get wary of building my anticipation up for anything. :(

If you really want to play this, I strongly suggest waiting it out until it's half the price in the trade-in bins around the world, alongside my copy.

Right now playing.. lets see, World of Warcraft. LvL 54 Undead Warlock closing in on maxlevel ( 60 ) on Burning Blade ( PVP server ). I got Oddworld: Stranger last friday that game is awesome, love the art and the character you play. Ive been playing lots of Ridge Racers on the PSP, its my substitute til I get wipeout pure. Been sneaking in some HL2 and Counter-Strike: Source sessions with some friends as well. Oh and trying to knock all the frogs over in MGS:3 Snake eater to get my stealth-camoflauge. And I almost forgot, I got Splinter Cell 3: Chaos theory here somewhere, havent gotten far in it at all.

I got metroid prime 2, halo 2 and some RPG to the gamecube lying around unfinished.. I really should stop getting new ones and finish the ones I got.. but you know how it is hehehe. I also felt like metroid prime 2 didnt have the flavor the first one had, it wasnt as classic. Same goes for Halo 2 really, it was awesome when the first Halo came a few years ago and smart AI and vehicular combat was still fresh. It doesnt mean that those arent two great games tho, the first levels of Halo rocked.. I think I only got 1 or 2 levels left in that game.

Anyone got Lumines? In case they dont have Pure in on this friday I might consider getting it, I liked REZ a lot so maybe this game is for me. Anyone whos played REZ and Lumines and can compare?

Well I need to finish the old ones before getting new ones. Infox I'm disappointed to hear AC5 is really a bummer!! How comes? I also was looking forward to this game as well. Wot a shame. I need to finish, Metroid prime 2, San andreas, half life 2. I'm currently playing WO3 and MGS3. I'm loving MGS3 to death, this game is fantastic at the moment.

Im currently playing lots of HaloPC online, aswell as WO2097/WO3 on epsxe. I tried to get into Brothers in arms but it got too repetitive after a while, too much flanking & suppressing for my liking. This will all change tomorrow however, as i am getting my Psp with Pure! :) from then on I expect to be honing my skills to perfection and soaking up that lovely WO atmosphere :)

I've been trying to hunt out my copy of the orignal WO on PS, its here somewhere :) I absolutely love that game despite the unforgiving collision physics.
One of my fav parts?, the intro definitely! :) I love it!

Right now this minute...

Wipeout 3 SE with my shiny new NegCon. It really is a different game with it. So much easier to play.

Mainly playing World of Warcraft though on Stormreaver server (EU)... Level 45 NE Druid :x

EDIT - Oh and I still play UT2004 a lot. Starting to get back into StarCraft again as well. Zerg for the win!

Finally got hold of Soul Calibur II for the 'Cube, that'll keep me busy until Namco finishes the third installment. And yesterday I finally found (drum roll) wipEout for Sega Saturn :D . Getting closer to completing my collection, yeah!

I've spent the last week playing TimeSplitters Future Perfect. Loved it, finished it, wrote a guide for it. I'm not entirely sure how to compare it to TS2, the story mode is definitely far more in depth, but like Rob said a while back, the controls don't feel as crisp. There's also a couple of challenges and arcade matches that deserve to die horribly, but it's still a great game though, and the monkey curling was a stroke of genius! :D

I've also pulled out Suikoden II again for another bash, I'd completely forgotten what a brilliant game it is.

Confusion: I tell you what, I've got every respect for Zerg players. I really could never get the hang of them.

Wipeout Pure. ;) And nothing else, really, except for what I need for work (played God of War recently and it kicks ass). I haven't got my stuff here in Munich yet, so PSP is the only system I CAN play on. I'm still waiting for Lumines, though. And I'm so looking forward to be able to play WO3 again. Zargz Stick2Trax has been great fun so far (too bad there wasn't anything to win this time, Pavel!!! ;-) ). By the way, since WO1 was mentioned somewhere above and I've been thinking this a lot when I played Pure: Does anyone else agree Pure feels a lot like WO1? The somehwat unforgivable walls, the challenging AI...it's all there.

Timesplitters Future perfect...

Controls feel less floaty and the guns seem more powerful (could be due to the fact that my ps2 won't make the controllers vibrate due to a blown fuse.)

the cat driving is funny but damn difficult. But is made even funnier when you select the cat and hear a famous line from Molly Sugden. :P

Multiplayrer rocks and i have managed to talk my parents into letting my little brother to play - he's pretty lethal with the flare gun :D

Aside from Pure and a few old classics (Sonic 3 & Knuckles = brilliant), I've been playing Call Of Duty United Offensive online pretty much all the time. I've joined up to a clan as well. :) Hopefully I should be getting Lumines as well on release day.

I've mostly been playing classics too although I have gone back to Lumines, which is excellent. I also started God of War in God Mode but haven't really given it much time - great game though.

playing with two 'new' computers [1998 and 1992][both free], and a new Western Digital WD800JB Caviar SE harddrive. [not free][it's pretty fast. quickest defrag i've seen. high data rate and 8 meg cache.]

lol :) My defrag is so slooooooow :( I hoped a third party defrag program might speed things up, but alas it did not.

high data rate and a large HD chip cache seem to be the major factors in good defrag speed. they affect general performance, too, but defrag seems to be where they make the greatest difference.

[opinion]>
it helps if you get the smallest capacity of a given model since they are smaller relative to their speed. this will not be so noticeable at low percentages of disk fill, but when you've got it 30 or more percent full, the difference would really start to show. no, i don't have the hard numbers of testing to back up this opinion, but that's that's the kind of performance that logic would indicate.

I had to defrag mine a couple of days ago, 50% full and around 60% fragmented. It took literally all day...

I have never once defragmented a computer without it performing worse after so I haven't done it in a long, long time. One computer (windows 98) pretty much died after being defragmented. Also having problems with some virus software, I now take an approach of 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' with computers.

this is staying off-topic a bit long, but we.ve clearly hit on something interesting and i've got to ask: how big are these drives you're defragging?

mine have never taken that long, and they always perform better after i'm done. mine are all on Win98 or WinME.

the longest defrag i ever had was the first one, which was on my original 17.2 G drive which had not ever been defragged before in three and a half years of heavy use, including near every day testing and uninstalling of programs. took twelve hours. performance was mUch better afterwards. learned my lesson. i usually defrag at least once per month to keep drives [and therefore the entire computers] near peak performance. the process usually takes only an hour or two. shortest defrag ever was about 10 or 15 seconds, but that was on my newest one that had only slight modifications of content since being defragged earlier in the same day after installing the operating system and about 10 gigabytes of other stuff. just final a tune-up before regular use

Currently Playing
IndyCar Series 2005 - great racing sim - if only it didn't look so dated.
Madden 2005 - trying to finish a full 30 year franchise.

Keep meaning to go back to
GTA: San Andreas - lots of stuff still to collect, and side missions to do.
TimeSplitters Future Perfect - lots of challenges still to complete.
Wipeout 3 SE - haven't played it competitively in almost a year now.
Halo (on my laptop) - ten minutes of aimless wandering over and over, followed by that infamous five minutes of fun. I want to go back to it to see if I can discover what all the fuss is about.

Fallen by the wayside
Burnout 3 - too gimmicky, I've tried to go back to it but it's just too teen-ified.
Gran Tourismo 4 - got bored of the primitive AI.
WRC 4 - I was thrashing this back in february, went on holiday and just lost all interest when I got back. It was probably through the lack of difficulty levels.
Formula One 2005 - frustrating penalty system and lack of interest in F1 mean I just cant motivate myself to play it. Shame, it plays really well this year with a wheel.

Looking forward to
Toca Race Driver 3 - for the sole reason that it has "part of the IndyCar Series" in it.
Socom 3 - I loved Socom II - the new one looks like a big leap forward.
Madden 2006 - more of the same.

Really, the last two are the only games I can say I'll definately be buying over the next few months. I know what I'm getting with Madden - a reskin and a few gameplay tweaks, plus some more gameplay modes I probably wont touch. I cant help it, though - I'm addicted to playing my franchise games.

With Socom 3 I'm a bit more excited - I've played a demo and it really has evolved into a much more polished title, so if that's released before Madden 2006 I'll probably get Socom 3 first and take a month or so off Madden.

I've had so many let-downs over the last year that I'm becoming immune to the hype and prepare myself for the absolute worst with each title I am looking forward to. Maybe my expectations got raised too high at some point. :?

the problem you mention with Halo is exactly why i can't get into RPGs and FPSs, too much wandering around before getting to any action. i get bored after the first minute. then i put in a racing game!!!! :D

Single player Halo is quite good fun but too many repetitive environments and wandering round. However in multiplayer it is really good fun and can be hilarious at times :)
As for RPG's, im a closet D&D fan, so I love stuff like Baldur's Gate & Icewind Dale, not too mention Neverwinter Nights :)
Come to think of it I might just go back to them its been years since i played D&D. :)

Faulty memory card during a firmware update makes me PSP-less for a few weeks. It hurts going on this board knowing you guys in Europe will be playing Wipeout while I'll remember the good times, albeit short, with my PSP and Pure.

In the meantime, I'll dust off my PS1 and go practice on some Wip3out. For the life of me, I cannot use that analog nob. Hopefully, the pain of waiting until a PSP is in my hands, will be subsided with completing some golds in a game that I think Pure reminds me a lot of.

Other than that, it's Ghost Recon : Summit Strike for me. Maybe even some Links 2004.
