What's to like :
- high resolution
- top framerate, 50fps on PAL !
- cool water effects, cool physics
- similar controls to wipeout, I dont know what the 'air brakes' are supposed to be here, likely tilting the boat sideways, but they work nearly the same
- kinda like wipeout when you start to go fast you just fly above all the bumps!
- instead of turbo pads you have turbo 'pickups'
- press SELECT for inside cam, and nose cam, guaranteed sensations :D
- music & sfx by Appollo 440
- negCon support
- secret 'fractal' mode with randomized tracks
What's not to like :
- not very good menus, no nice record tables, though it does save the best times
- no configurable buttons, no biggie
- annoying red 'pickups' that you have to avoid
- some clipping problems, no biggie
- lack of replayability: no challenges, no weapons, just faster boats to unlock and to upgrade via race track.
All in all a great racer from SCEE Internal Studios !
The steering is original, you are in fact pushed by the stream (try going backwards...), you are also pushed sideways when you race on 'bumps' (or waves or whatever). So there's a bit of rally where you anticipate turns and slide. The track is never flat, and there are some great jumps , check out the last one before the finish line on the lava track, especially after 2 turbos :P
