I recently purchased a little indie documentary film by the name of Dark Days. It covers the lives of homeless people in New York City living in the subway tunnels. I had caught a piece of it on the sundance channel about a year or so ago but didn't have the chance to watch the whole thing. I netflixed it a week ago and immediately bought it after watching it the whole way through.
I barely ever buy movies- this is one of (literally) 3 dvd's that I now own. Rent it and watch the whole thing through, then watch the making of, then the deleted scenes, then everything else. I can't possibly explain how wonderful this film is, so you'll just have to find it and rent it yourself.
